FIU has fired their men's basketball coach, Isaiah Thomas. Thomas, former NBA player and Hall of Famer, led the team to a 26-65 record after being hired in 2009.

Thomas has said that the firing shocked him, saying, "This is the most surprising thing that has happened to me in basketball, I never been fired before for basketball reasons. This is the first time."

I think it's about time he gives up coaching..I mean, he really hasn't been successful at all since his first couple years with the Knicks...

My guess is, the Knicks will probably hire him to do something or other, but probably not coach.

Some people can play basketball, some people can coach basketball, some people can do both.... This guy can't do both. :P

He might end up as a recruiter or something somewhere.

He's never going to be a successful basketball coach. I agree with Cmt, maybe he could be a broadcaster or something else.

I'm assuming when you say FIU you're referring to Florida International University correct? Well anyways. I never heard of that player probably because of the team he was on...It's weird to have a coach that was a basketball player anyways...

False. In his first 3 years of coaching he was with the Pacers. In those 3 years not one of them was a losing season, although they didn't do very well in the playoffs. That's still being a fairly successful coach. He also did alright in his first few years with the Knicks.

I think his glory days are behind him though.

Yeah, that's the college. Isaiah Thomas played with the Pistons during his NBA career. He was one of the players that practiced the "Jordan rules" against Michael Jordan. Basically they just played extremely physical basketball against Jordan and double teamed him the entire time. He was kind of a jerk as a basketball player, but it worked pretty well, so I guess whatever it takes to win....

Anyway, Richard Pitino, Rick Pitino's son, is going to be the next coach at FIU, according to Rick Pitino. He was on the Louisville staff last season, and he probably learned quite a bunch from his dad, so I think he has potential to do fairly well, probably not right away though.
