Nakobe Dean stayed loyal to the Eagles by signing with Las Vegas

There had been some speculation after Christian Parker was hired as the DC for the Cowboys that he would try to lure some of his former Eagles players to their NFC East rival, including Nakobe Dean. The linebacker ended up agreeing to sign with the Raiders at the start of the NFL’s legal tampering window, but it turns out that the Cowboys made a big push to get Dean to Dallas.

Jane Slater reported that the Cowboys were very competitive for Dean, but couldn’t pull it off.

“[Nakobe Dean] was one of their 5 zooms allowed. I’m told their offer was similar to the Raiders but ultimately he went with his gut feeling but was told he could have seen himself in both places and it was “51/49” margin but Raiders won this one.“

Perhaps Dean’s gut feeling was a tinge of loyalty to the Birds and to the City of Philadelphia — or perhaps he knew that the Cowboys wouldn’t have the kind of success he’s been used to with the Eagles. Either way, it’s good for his former team that they won’t have to face him twice a season, and it’s a small gesture, intentional or not, that will keep Dean welcome in Philly for the rest of his career.

Matt Pryor is not returning to the Eagles

The Eagles might be losing several offensive lineman this offseason. The first to sign elsewhere is offensive guard/tackle Matt Pryor. The Eagles’ 2018 draft pick will reportedly be headed to Arizona on a one-year contract with the Cardinals.

Pryor, who turns 32 this season, has bounced around the league a bit during his seven-year career, and after stops in Indianapolis, San Francisco, and Chicago, he ended up back in Philadelphia for the 2025 season. He filled in at times for Lane Johnson, Tyler Steen, and Landon Dickerson, but only took a total of 112 offensive snaps — this just one season after recording 1,086 total offensive snaps as a starting guard with the Bears.

He has a lot of experience and can be a solid backup. Pryor struggled at times with the Eagles, but the offensive line as a whole took a step back last season, and the run game struggled as a result.

With the departure of Jeff Stoutland, the Eagles have a new offensive line coach this season. Chris Kuper may be looking to make his mark on the room. All five starters might already be in place, but Kuper can definitely set things up differently with the depth at several positions as they implement a new system in Philly.

Riq Woolen was the missing piece in the Eagles’ secondary

The Eagles made an unexpected splash ahead of the official start of free agency and came to an agreement with free agent cornerback Tariq Woolen on a one-year deal worth “up to” $15 million. He knows what it takes to win a Super Bowl, and will be able to keep that mentality in Philadelphia.

Immediate reactions to the move were excitement and appreciation for what he’ll add to the cornerback room alongside Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean. The group instantly becomes one of the “stickiest” in the league, and should compensate for any drop off from losing guys like Jaelan Phillips and Nakobe Dean.

Even former Eagles captain Darius Slay was supportive of the move.

Great move!!! https://t.co/RGB3U7vyk2

— Darius Slay (@bigplay24slay) March 10, 2026

Here’s what reporters and insiders from around the league were saying about this signing by Howie Roseman and Co. and how Woolen will fit into the Eagles’ secondary:

Riq Woolen allowed just 0.5 yards per coverage snap in man coverage last season, the fewest among outside cornerbacks.

Woolen also forced a 31.3% completion rate playing man in 2025, the lowest among players at his position.@Eagles | #FlyEaglesFly https://t.co/ivWpUYdzK7 pic.twitter.com/RkVAXIImrp

2022-2025 coverage snaps at outside corner per NFL Pro. Not sure where this narrative is coming from. Only one player has played more outside snaps than Woolen over this time. He has the best yards allowed per coverage snap among players who have at least 1/4th of his cov. snaps https://t.co/Fi9qxJIBYy pic.twitter.com/fkPdsq12CU

— Justis Mosqueda (@JuMosq) March 10, 2026
#Eagles' signing of CB Tariq Woolen to a one-year contract with a maximum value of $15M seems to qualify as a "show-me" deal.

Woolen, a former fifth-round draft pick, lost snaps on the outside to former Eagle Josh Jobe in Seattle's secondary, and eventually his spot when a…

— Jeff McLane (@Jeff_McLane) March 10, 2026
I thought the Eagles' splash would be at pass rush. Also didn't think Woolen wouldn't be lingering and available on a one-year deal.

This doesn't tie long-term money up in the secondary. The Eagles have a sticky group of CBs.

— Zach Berman (@ZBerm) March 10, 2026
Most of Riq Woolen's snaps came at outside corner and I'd expect that to remain true with the #Eagles, but the #Seahawks lined him up at nickel 22 times last season, and seemed matchup dependent. Spent some time defending TEs (Kittle and McBride) and some hybrid/big slots like… pic.twitter.com/c8z6SVboCY

— Devin Jackson (@RealD_Jackson) March 10, 2026
The #eagles were in need of a CB opposite star Quinyon Mitchell. Riq Woolen moved around last year, 382 snaps at left CB, 376 at right CB, 14 snaps at slot. Among CBs targeted at least 50 times, Woolen allowed the 6th lowest completion % (49.2) last season per Next Gen Stats.

— James Palmer (@JamesPalmerTV) March 10, 2026
I’ve studied Riq Woolen’s game extensively.

A lot of Eagles fans claimed that he sucked back in October.

He has his warts but he’s one of stickiest corners in the NFL and ELITE in press bail coverage.

With him and Qs speed on the outside, it alleviates the need for safeties… https://t.co/cj0rV5kTjN

— Eagles Eric (@EaglesXsandOs) March 10, 2026
"Woolen has allowed just a 27.6% completion percentage in man coverage, the lowest by any defender to face 20+ targets in man since at least 2018, ceding 73 yards on 29 targets (2.5 per target)."

Eagles play more man than the Seahawks did.

— Jeff Neiburg (@Jeff_Neiburg) March 10, 2026
Upgrading from Adoree Jackson and Kelee Ringo to Riq Woolen is pretty darn good business

— Bill Barnwell (@billbarnwell) March 10, 2026
With Riq Woolen to #Eagles, Philly can keep Cooper DeJean in the slot while Woolen plays outside with Quinyon Mitchell.

In base, DeJean can move to safety with Reed Blankenship departing.

Big upgrade for an already good pass defense.

— Jeff Kerr (@JeffKerrPHL) March 10, 2026
This makes a lot of sense for both sides. Woolen is betting on himself to prove he's worth a huge contract as part of an elite defense. https://t.co/QB8TrDhLP3

— Mina Kimes (@minakimes) March 10, 2026
Even on plays new #Eagles DB Riq Woolen doesn't get a great jam in man coverage or allows a free release, he has the speed to turn and run with most players in the NFL. His length also allows him to play through the catch point. Rep is never truly over for him even in a trail… pic.twitter.com/RyyU0ouEvs

Wow! Eagles have checked on Woolen via trade before. Love the one year prove it deal playing in this loaded of a secondary for Woolen. https://t.co/jAYX58yRMa

Brandon Graham says he’s not retiring

The Philadelphia Eagles are sorting out their roster as the new league year has officially started, and a familiar face might be back in the building for one more go around. Brandon Graham was speaking at an event honoring Dick Vermeil on Wednesday evening, and he made comments alluding to his return for his 16th season.

”Hopefully we can win another in my last season coming up,“ as reported by John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia.

BG and the Eagles were both optimistic about a future together after the end of last season, but nothing has been formally announced about his return. Coming off his half-season in 2025, the franchise legend was still playing at a high level and is still capable of contributing in a limited role.

With the Eagles losing Jaelan Phillips, Josh Uche, and Azeez OJulari, keeping BG is a smart move. He’ll be an affordable option and is invaluable in the locker room.

There are plenty of other roster moves the Eagles are making over the coming days, so finalizing something with Graham might just be lower on the priority list.

Vic Fangio says Jihaad Campbell will “miss probably most of the offseason” with a shoulder injury

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - DECEMBER 14: Jihaad Campbell #30 of the Philadelphia Eagles looks on against the Las Vegas Raiders at Lincoln Financial Field on December 14, 2025 in Philadelphia, United States. (Photo by Mitchell Leff/Getty Images) | Getty Images

Speaking to John Clark at an event to honor Dick Vermeil on Wednesday evening, Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio revealed some unexpected injury news about Jihaad Campbell.

You can watch the full NBC Sports Philadelphia interview for yourself but here’s the relevant exchange as it relates to Philadelphia’s 2025 first-round pick (hat tip to @DibonaNFL):

CLARK: As far as Nakobe Dean and Jaelan Phillips against the run, how ready is Jihaad Campbell for that spot now in Nakobe’s spot?

FANGIO: Well, he’s got to be ready. And we’ve got to do a good job of getting him ready. You know, he is dealing with a shoulder injury. He’s going to miss probably most of the offseason. So, we’re going to have to cram it into him in training camp and hopefully we have enough work to get that done for him.

Yikes.

With the Eagles unsurprisingly losing Dean in free agency, Campbell is slated to take his place in the starting lineup moving forward. It would be ideal for Campbell, who just turned 22 years old last month, to have a full offseason to help prepare him to be a full-time starter. But apparently that won’t be the case.

Now, it should be noted that Fangio has been wrong about Campbell’s recovery timeline before. Speaking during an early June 2025 press conference, the Eagles’ defensive coordinator said Campbell wouldn’t participate in training camp “until sometime in August.” But Campbell basically turned out to be ready from the team’s first practice on July 23.

But that situation doesn’t necessarily mean Fangio is also wrong here. And if we’re parsing his answer, which we are, I wonder if by “most of the offseason” he means the Eagles’ voluntary spring offseason workout program. It wouldn’t be ideal for Campbell to miss that time. But it would at least be good to see him ready by the time starting camp starts in late July, which might be possible. We’ll see.

The exact nature of Campbell’s shoulder injury currently isn’t clear. He was only listed with a shoulder injury when he had a “shoulder/back” injury description leading up to Week 18. He was limited for a Wednesday practice before fully practicing on Thursday and Friday that week. With the Eagles resting starters, Campbell played most of the game in the regular season finale. He was not listed on the injury report ahead of the team’s Wild Card game.

Of course, Campbell has a history of shoulder injuries that likely contributed to him falling further than originally expected in the 2025 NFL Draft.

FWIW, @TonyPauline had the following to say about new #Eagles LB Jihaad Campbell on Thursday morning.https://t.co/RWYnBtb7je pic.twitter.com/RdOsBizKaB

— Brandon Lee Gowton (@BrandonGowton) April 25, 2025

This Campbell news could help to explain why the Eagles were recently checking in on Patrick Queen’s price tag:

Cowboys have been largely wiped out at LB. Been a tough day there in Dallas, no other way to put it.

I’m keeping an eye on Patrick Queen at the moment. A handful of teams have called Pittsburgh about a trade here (including the Eagles). Dallas has kept a hand in that mix for…

— Nick Harris (@NickHarrisFWST) March 10, 2026

Previously, that report made no real sense. And it’s still quite possible it doesn’t happen. But now it’s at least a little understandable where Philly’s interest was coming from.

Assuming the Eagles don’t acquire Queen or another starting-caliber linebacker, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. stands to benefit from the time that Campbell misses this offseason. Trot Jr. saw a lot of first-team off-ball linebacker reps last year before he ultimately lost the job to Campbell. He didn’t play poorly, however. Just the opposite, really; he’s looked good whenever he’s had the chance to shine … albeit in small sample sizes.

The Eagles will hope that the missed time doesn’t stunt Campbell’s development. Sometimes young players really make a big jump from Year 1 to Year 2 after having the benefit of a full offseason in an NFL team’s workout program. Campbell played a bunch as a rookie but not quite as much as he could’ve since he lost playing time to a superior player in Dean.

Not the end of the world that he could be behind the eight ball entering his sophomore season but it’s not ideal, either.
