Eagles’ Christian Parker reportedly draws another defensive coordinator interview

gettyimages-2254419999.jpg

Philadelphia Eagles passing game coordinator/defensive backs coach Christian Parker will interview for the Green Bay Packers’ defensive coordinator opening, according to a report from NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

Parker is also reportedly set to interview with the Dallas Cowboys for their defensive coordinator opening. That in-person meeting will be taking place on Wednesday.

Parker previously interviewed for the New Orleans Saints’ DC opening last year but the Eagles were fortunate to be able to keep him instead. It’s looking like they might not be so lucky this time around.

If we’re to assume the Eagles are definitely losing Parker, better it be the Packers than the Cowboys. Parker notably has experience working with Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur after serving as a defensive quality control coach on his staff from 2019-2020.

It remains to be seen how the Eagles will replace Parker if he leaves. They currently have a safeties coach in Joe Kasper and a cornerbacks coach in Roy Anderson. Of the two, the guess here is that Kasper is more likely to be promoted. But we’ll see. Maybe they’ll go with an external candidate.

Or, better yet, manage to retain Parker.

NFL Mock Draft 2026: Eagles 7-round simulation, Version 1.0

gettyimages-2247808730.jpg

The 2025 Philadelphia Eagles season is over, almost mercifully. With the end of a disappointing year comes optimism for an offseason for the team to change, improve, and add some new faces. As of today, the Eagles hold eight picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, including the 23rd overall selection and four picks in the top 100. This draft is deep where the Eagles need it to be: offensive line and defensive skill positions. It could be a great chance for them to add a ton of young talent where the roster (and cap) needs.

I do this simulation column every year to sort of track the changes in Eagles needs, players draft stocks, and possible pick movement. We are months and months away from the draft, so things are definitely subject to change with exhibition games, private workouts, interviews, and the combine still ahead. But as it stands today, here is how I would navigate the Eagles eight picks in the 2026 draft.

Simulation run using the Pro Football Focus Mock Draft Simulation. No trades.

Pick 1.23: Kadyn Proctor, Offensive Lineman, Alabama

There are many reasons the Eagles struggled on offense this year and health in the trenches was a big factor. The Eagles really felt the injury to Lane Johnson and the fact that the interior offensive line was never fully healthy. They need to get younger in the trenches and Kadyn Proctor makes a ton of sense in the first round. At 6’7”, 330+ pounds, Proctor looks the part of the next great Eagles tackle. He played 40 games at Alabama, all at left tackle and got better every one of his three years. He could be a tremendous heir apparent for Lane Johnson with the potential to start at right guard in the meantime if the Eagles feel his height won’t be a liability inside.

Pick 2.54: Eli Stowers, Tight End, Vanderbilt

Eli Stowers is a guy I am going to probably pound the table for all offseason. Dallas Goedert is a free agent and even if AJ Brown returns, the Eagles need a third guy in their passing game. Stowers is smaller as a tight end at 6’4”, 235 pounds and probably will struggle with in-line blocking… but god what a mismatch this player could be with the right offensive coordinator. With his combination of size and athleticism, he will be too fast for linebackers to cover and too big for most cornerbacks to play at the catch point. He is agile after the catch and can win all over the field. I honestly think he goes much higher than this after the combine, but right now I can dream.

Pick 3.68: D’Angelo Ponds, Cornerback, Indiana

Since the 2021 draft, Howie Roseman has become dialed in on drafting players from the best programs in the country. In that time frame, the Eagles drafted eight players from a reigning national championship team. On top of that there has just generally been more of an emphasis on drafting guys from Blue Chips Schools. Since 2021, the Eagles have drafted tons of players from Georgia, Alabama, Michigan, Clemson, and Texas.

Well there’s a new top program in the country. The Indiana Hoosiers are loaded with future NFL players on both sides of the ball and that’s a big reason they are 15-0 headed into a national title game this weekend. I expect the Eagles to dip into that talent pool at least once this spring.

D’Angelo Ponds might be undersized at 5’9”, 170 pounds but he has dominated Big 10 receivers for the last two years, shutting out some very talented players. Since the beginning of the 2024 season, Ponds has been targeted 115 times on 892 coverage snaps and only allowed a single touchdown while picking off five passes, all as a boundary receiver. He is smart, athletic and physical. The Eagles have a huge hole in their secondary at the third cornerback spot and Ponds could push to play outside cornerback with Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean holding down the other spots.

Pick 3.98: Mikail Kamara, Edge Defender, Indiana

The Eagles draft a second Hoosier in this simulation. Mikail Kamara hasn’t put up impressive sack numbers to follow up his 2024 season where he had 10, but he actually has had more hurries this season. Kamara is a twitchy, high motor defender who makes up for his lack of length with a high level of effort. For an Eagles team that needs more youth and juice at edge, Kamara makes a ton of sense as a role player behind Jalyx Hunt and Nolan Smith.

Pick 4.122: Kaytron Allen, Running Back, Penn State

Even with Tank Bigsby looking impressive in small samples this season, the Eagles could still build out their running back room a bit more. Saquon Barkley took a step back this year and Will Shipley has failed to impress in two seasons. Meanwhile, Kayton Allen would bring a much needed physicality as an inside runner. He is athletic, but does his best work between tackles wearing down defenses. He could be a great complement to Saquon Barkley and could eventually take over as a lead back.

Pick 4.136: Bryce Lance, Wide Receiver, North Dakota State

No matter what happens with AJ Brown this offseason, the Eagles need to keep adding youth to their wide receiver group. Bryce Lance is physically impressive at 6’3” and nearly 210 pounds. In the last two seasons, Lance has caught 126 passes for 2,148 yards and 25 touchdowns while averaging over 17 yards per catch. He could immediately come in and push for snaps at WR3 and contribute early as a big play threat.

Pick 5.151 Earnest Greene III, Offensive Lineman, Georgia

Earnest Greene III came to Georgia with high expectations that he never really met. Despite being a three year starter at left and right tackle, Greene battled through injuries and inconsistent play. That being said, he is still talented at 6’4”, 320 pounds. He has long, strong arms and plays with a lot of intensity. He could be a guard in the NFL with the right coaching, and that’s coaching he could get in Philadelphia.

Pick 5.179: Vincent Anthony Jr, Edge Defender, Duke

As the Eagles continue to reload on defense, Vincent Anthony Junior feels like a great late round swing. He is a toolsy player at 6’6” and nearly 260 pounds. He has long arms and a great motor. He was inconsistent at Duke, but would be a great project player for the Eagles staff.

Eagles reportedly miss out on their top offensive coordinator target

gettyimages-2253828200.jpg

The Philadelphia Eagles won’t be hiring Mike McDaniel to replace Kevin Patullo.

The former Miami Dolphins head coach is expected to become the new Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator, according to a report from ESPN.

Former Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel is expected to become the Chargers offensive coordinator barring a change of heart, per @JeffDarlington and me. McDaniel has informed other teams that they’re out, the Chargers clearly want him, and the two sides are having dinner tonight. But the… pic.twitter.com/N7onkCadlK

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) January 21, 2026

McDaniel apparently wants to work with Justin Herbert instead of Jalen Hurts.

This development is disappointing news for the Eagles, who reportedly had McDaniel as their top OC candidate.

The Bucs and the Eagles both pursued McDaniel as their top OC target. The Bucs were especially diligent in their courtship, and McDaniel was very engaged with them throughout. Ultimately, the lure of getting back to California and coaching Justin Herbert proved strongest. https://t.co/CGKw5wgGTz

— Jeff Darlington (@JeffDarlington) January 21, 2026

More from the Inquirer earlier on Tuesday:

In the past week, the Eagles have made it known to sources around the league that hiring former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel as their new offensive coordinator is their No. 1 offseason priority. That includes fired Giants coach Brian Daboll, who is expected to interview for the position this week. Virtually no amount of money, literally no amount of autonomy, and no fear of conflict would deter the team from signing McDaniel, a respected offensive innovator.

Eagles fans also seemed to be pretty intrigued by McDaniel. It would’ve been interesting to see his approach in Philly. Alas, we won’t get the chance.

It was previously reported that the Eagles entered their offensive coordinator search with McDaniel and former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll at the top of their list. With McDaniel off the board, perhaps the focus now fully shifts to Daboll, who reportedly interviewed with the Eagles earlier on Tuesday.

The Eagles might need to act fast to get their next choice or else risk losing them to another team.

Eagles reportedly interview Matt Nagy for offensive coordinator

gettyimages-2220758707.jpg

Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy is the latest Philadelphia Eagles OC candidate. The Birds interviewed the 47-year-old for their vacancy, according to a report from NFL insider Mike Garafolo.

It’s noted that Nagy is “currently exploring a few OC options” after losing out to Robert Saleh for the Tennessee Titans’ head coaching job. Nagy’s contract expired and it looks like the Chiefs are going to bring Eric Bienemy back to KC to replace him.

Eagles fans are already well-aware of Nagy for one reason or another. He has local roots from going to high school in Lancaster County and playing college football at Delaware. Nagy had a seven-year Arena Football League quarterback career before getting his first NFL job on Andy Reid’s staff in 2008.

Here’s a snapshot of his pro coaching career:

  • 2008-2009 — Philadelphia Eagles coaching intern
  • 2010 — Philadelphia Eagles coaches’ assistant
  • 2011-2012 — Philadelphia Eagles offensive quality control coach
  • 2013-2015 — Kansas City Chiefs quarterbacks coach
  • 2017 — Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator
  • 2018-2021 — Chicago Bears head coach
  • 2022 — Kansas City Chiefs senior assistant and quarterbacks coach
  • 2023-2025 — Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator

In eight years as an offensive coordinator or head coach, the offenses that Nagy has been part of have an average rank of 19th in yards (rounded from 18.75) and 18th in points.

The strongest year on his record is 2017, when Reid handed play-calling over to Nagy in early December of that season. The Chiefs finished fifth in yards and sixth in points that season.

  • 2017 pre-Nagy play-calling: Chiefs averaged 24.7 points per game and 358.6 yards per game
  • 2017 Nagy play-calling: Chiefs averaged 27.3 points per game and 397.3 yards per game

Nagy was then hired by the Bears (where he overlapped with Vic Fangio for one season) and he oversaw some pretty lackluster results before being fired:

  • 2018 Bears offense: 21st in yards, 9th in points
  • 2019 Bears offense: 29th in yards, 29th in points
  • 2020 Bears offense: 26th in yards, 20th in points
  • 2021 Bears offense: 24th in yards, 27th in points

In fairness, the Bears had some bad quarterbacks during that stretch; Mitchell Trubisky was the starter for three years before Justin Fields and Andy Dalton split time in 2021.

Nagy returned to KC in 2022 and served as Patrick Mahomes’ quarterbacks coach in the year the Chiefs beat the Eagles in the Super Bowl (boo). He was then promoted back to OC in 2023. A look at those offenses:

  • 2023 Chiefs offense: 9th in yards, 15th in points
  • 2024 Chiefs offense: 16th in yards, 15th in points
  • 2025 Chiefs offense: 20th in yards, 21st in points

All told, it’s hard to make the case that the Eagles hiring Nagy is a high ceiling move. It would seem to be more about striving for some level of competency.

Looking back at the greatest night in the history of Lincoln Financial Field

imagn-10559279.jpg

My life can succinctly be divided in two parts: everything that happened before Jan. 21, 2018 and everything that’s transpired since.

I was 23. I had just graduated college a few weeks prior. The Eagles’ post-Carson Wentz playoff run was the only thing on my mind.

After an all day tailgate out in Jetro, I walked into Lincoln Financial Field with family and friends alike that evening to see the Birds, as home underdogs, take on the Vikings in the NFC Championship Game with a Super Bowl berth on the line. What else could be more important in our earthly existence than the Birds going on the path to finally hoisting the Lombardi Trophy?

The most thorough Eagles playoff thrashing of the 21st century didn’t start too well, though that’s forgotten a bit to history. Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph hauled in a first quarterback touchdown to make things 7-0 Minnesota. You could hear a pin drop at the Linc. I was sick to my stomach and it wasn’t just due to the parking lot hoagies and cold ones.

Then Patrick Robinson happened.

Robinson’s pick-6 off Minnesota’s Case Keenum later in the first quarter made it feel like an earthquake had been summoned by the gridiron gods to South Philadelphia. With a pass rush from Chris Long that caused an errant pass, Robinson nabbed the ball, scurrying around the field until he was in the end zone. Much props to Ronald Darby for getting knocked into the seventh circle of hell while blocking for Robinson’s eventual score, too.

Up until that moment, it did truly feel like the peak of living. I was with a ton of people I cared about as well as tens of thousands of people who shared a common dream of seeing a February parade down Broad Street. I never heard a stadium louder before. I still haven’t since. It’s something I wish I could re-live all over again.

It was only a tie game at that point in the first quarter, but it was over. The Eagles had as rabid a crowd that ever existed going wild. Robinson ignited a fire in all of us. That’s before the legend of Nick Foles took another turn as well…

Foles, whose birthday is this Tuesday, went supernova against the Vikings’ top-ranked defense. throwing for 352 yards and three touchdowns. Bombs to Alshon Jeffery? Check. Perfectly lofted passes to Zach Ertz that made Harrison Smith look silly? Check. A flea flicker touchdown that felt like a victory cigar for every Eagles fan watching? Mega check.

I was such a Foles skeptic heading into that postseason. Guess what? I was wrong and I’ve never been more happy to be wrong about something in my entire three decades on this rock of ours. Now Foles is one of the greatest heroes this city has ever seen. Life comes at you quick!

Even with a matchup against Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and the Patriots looming in two weeks, that monumental 38-7 beatdown of Minnesota made it crystal clear in my mind that the Eagles would win the Super Bowl at all costs. Foles’ right arm was magic. The defense had a knack for timely game-altering plays. Doug Pederson and Frank Reich were more locked in than anyone’s ever been coaching wise. What a glorious winter 2018 was!

The Linc never rocked harder. From the “Dreams and Nightmares” pregame warm-ups to PatRob’s heroics to Foles rewriting the story of his own career, “anyone could’ve gotten it that night.”

Eagles reportedly lose Christian Parker to the Cowboys

gettyimages-2254419999.jpg

The Philadelphia Eagles are losing passing game coordinator/defensive backs coach Christian Parker. Not ideal.

Even worse, he’s joining the Dallas Cowboys as their new defensive coordinator. This much according to a report from NFL insider Tom Pelissero.

We knew this outcome was possible; Parker recently drew DC interviews from Dallas and the Green Bay Packers. Really, the Eagles were fortunate to be able to retain him for 2025 after he drew interest from the New Orleans Saints last year.

Losing Parker was likely inevitable. Losing him to a division rival isn’t very fun. Unless he proves to be a double agent, which I wouldn’t count on.

We previously touched on Parker’s value:

The 34-year-old Parker has a strong track record of getting the best out of his players. He notably oversaw the development of Patrick Surtain II with the Denver Broncos before coming to Philly and coaching Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean to All-Pro status in their second seasons.

The Eagles have had one of the best defenses in the NFL since they hired him along with Vic Fangio during the 2024 offseason. The team would probably like to retain him, especially since he could potentially be a Fangio successor one day. But it’s quite possible — if not outright likely — that Parker will be poached before that can happen.

It’s possible that Parker is a good position coach but not a good defensive coordinator. And Dallas has a long way to go in remaking their talent on that side of the ball after it was such a disastrous unit under Matt Eberflus in 2025.

But it’ll be pretty annoying for the Eagles if Parker helps the Cowboys turn things around in a big way.

Anyway, it remains to be seen how the Birds will replace Parker. They currently have a cornerbacks coach in Roy Anderson and a safeties coach in Joe Kasper. Will there be an internal promotion or will they look to make an external hire? Perhaps a combination of both if there’s some backfilling to be done? We’ll see.

Mannnn😔. They got a great one wouldn’t be the player I am without CP🫡 https://t.co/AyQycoOsPs

Eagles executive reportedly drawing interest for Falcons general manager job

imagn-22645344.jpg

The Atlanta Falcons have requested permission to interview Philadelphia Eagles senior personnel director/advisor to the general manager Joe Douglas for their GM opening, according to a report from NFL insider Jonathan Jones.

Douglas re-joined the Eagles in May 2025 after going 32-68 in about 5.5 seasons as the New York Jets’ general manager. He originally served as the Eagles’ vice president of player personnel alongside Howie Roseman from 2016-2019.

It’s generally (no pun intended) uncommon for general managers to get second chances elsewhere, so, I’m not sure that Douglas is the most likely candidate. But he’s in the mix.

And so are a number of his former co-workers.

Former Eagles vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl, who replaced Douglas after he left Philly, has also interviewed for the Falcons’ general manager opening. Weidl has been the Pittsburgh Steelers’ assistant general manager since 2022.

Former Eagles director of player personnel Ian Cunningham, who has been the Chicago Bears’ assistant general manager since 2022, has been interviewed by Atlanta as well.

It isn’t difficult to see the through-line in these interviews; the Eagles’ success has clearly inspired the Falcons to be interested in these candidates. New Falcons head coach Kevin Stefanski is a Philly native, so, that might be a factor as well.

We’ll soon see if they end up hiring Douglas, a former member of the Eagles’ front office, or someone else entirely. If Douglas gets the job, Howie Roseman might look to find someone to replace his role.

After the Divisional Round, the collective BGN Community is still in first place with Jonny Page trailing behind. Jonny can only stand alone in the top spot if he goes 3-0 over the final three games while the BGN Community goes 0-3.

Which teams are Philadelphia Eagles fans rooting for to participate in Super Bowl LX? I’d guess the Denver Broncos over the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game and the Seattle Seahawks over the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship Game. Eagles offensive coordinator search updates: Brian Daboll still in the mix?

gettyimages-2244666759.jpg

The Philadelphia Eagles are still looking for a new offensive coordinator after either firing or demoting Kevin Patullo. Here are some updates on the search.

Brian Daboll still in the mix?

Earlier this week, The Athletic reported that Daboll is expected to be the new Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator if he doesn’t land the Buffalo Bills head coaching job.

However, the latest buzz from NFL insider Jeremy Fowler suggests that Daboll to Philly hasn’t been ruled out:

I’m not totally convinced former Giants head coach Brian Daboll is off the table, though there’s not much buzz there at the moment.

There’s currently an article on Music City Miracles titled: “How long can Titans wait for Brian Daboll to make a decision?” And it’s a fair question. The longer Daboll keeps them waiting, the greater the chance the Titans miss out on their top backup options at offensive coordinator. Maybe the Titans grow impatient and go with someone else but Daboll doesn’t get the Bills job, leaving him available for the Eagles?

We’ll see.

Eagles granted permission to interview Declan Doyle

On Thursday, we learned that the Eagles requested permission to interview Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle. On Friday, we learned that the Eagles were granted that permission.

More from Fowler:

Chicago offensive coordinator Declan Doyle is a name to watch. The Bears did not block Philly’s request to interview Doyle, which means he’s free to make the lateral move. Some see him as head coach material, and this job can be a springboard if the new playcaller improves [Jalen] Hurts’ performance.

While it would be a lateral move in title, Doyle is obviously not the Bears’ play-caller. So, this would effectively be a promotion, which is probably why the Bears didn’t block the request.

Doyle’s lack of experience stands out but maybe he’s picked up some wisdom from working with Sean Payton and Ben Johnson. With the Eagles seemingly striking out on their top candidates, it could be good to take a big swing at OC as opposed to aiming for mere competence at best (see: Matt Nagy). The 2025 Eagles certainly could’ve benefited from mere competence but the 2026 Eagles might need more upside given the potential moving parts on offense.

The Bobby Slowik interview happened

On Friday morning, NFL insider Adam Schefter noted that the Eagles interviewed Miami Dolphins senior passing game coordinator Bobby Slowik for Philly’s OC opening.

The news here is that the interview actually took place. It was previously reported that the Eagles requested permission for the interview.

More updates to come

At least one Eagles assistant might follow Christian Parker to the Cowboys

gettyimages-2248860555.jpg

The Philadelphia Eagles lost passing game coordinator/defensive backs coach Christian Parker to the Dallas Cowboys, who hired him as their new defensive coordinator.

The Birds might also be losing at least one more defensive assistant to Dallas.

The Cowboys are interviewing Eagles assistant linebackers/defensive quality control coach Ronell Williams, according to a report from ESPN’s Todd Archer.

The Chester, Pennsylvania native originally joined the Eagles as a nickel cornerbacks coach in 2023 before his title changed to his current role in 2024.

The guess here is that Williams’ contract with the Eagles is set to expire and they’re allowing him to interview with the Cowboys for what could be a promotion. I don’t think the Eagles will be too keen on losing even more defensive assistants to Dallas but it’s no surprise that Parker is interested in bringing some of his former co-workers with him.

With Parker already gone, Clint Hurtt reportedly interviewing for the Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator opening, and Williams potentially headed out the door, the Eagles might need to hire some replacements to fill out Vic Fangio’s defensive staff.

Eagles News: An improved Jordan Davis believes he can get even better

gettyimages-2255787935.jpg

Eagles Question of the Day:

If you’re the Eagles, are you paying both Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter this offseason? And then probably letting Moro Ojomo walk next year? Or would you handle it differently? Head over to The Feed and weigh in with your answer and explanation!

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …

Eagles’ breakout star on extension talks: ‘I’m always scratching’ – NJ.com
“I’m not doing this for just selfish reasons,” Jordan Davis said last week about earning a new contract. “I’m doing this because I want to be the best player I can be. Genuinely, I love this team, I love this program. They gave me an opportunity, they believed in me when nobody did. And it was my duty to be the best player I could be. … This is not the best that I have been. This is not the best that I can be. So I’m always scratching, I’m always clawing for that. The ceiling is the only thing that you can place upon yourself.”

Mekhi Becton reportedly expected to be released: Should the Eagles have interest in a reunion? – BGN
There’s a common belief that the 2025 Eagles missed the 2024 version of Becton, especially when it came to Philly’s ability to run the ball. While there’s no doubt that Becton made some really nice plays as a run blocker during Philly’s Super Bowl LIX-winning season, it’s hardly like his replacement was a total liability. The perception is that Steen was worse as a run blocker but better in pass protection. But here’s what the Pro Football Focus grading (grain of salt) looks like. […] I don’t get the sense that the Eagles are itching to replace Steen — who is now eligible for an extension as he enters the final year of his rookie contract — with Becton. Especially after Becton had a down 2025 where he got benched at one point and ranked 83rd out of 85 guards graded by PFF (84th in run blocking and 75th in pass blocking).

More on the Coaching Situation – Iggles Blitz
That is two candidates the Eagles talked to who have taken other jobs. Some see this the candidates rejecting the Eagles. That’s not necessarily true. Teams are going to talk to candidates they are curious about. That doesn’t mean they’ll end up liking that coach and wanting to hire him. I had concerns about Slowik. I wasn’t sure he was enough of a problem solver. He runs a good scheme and has some good ideas. Think back to his Texans tenure. He wasn’t able to come up with solutions when defenses got the best of that OL. Does that sound like a familiar problem? I find Smith to be an interesting coach. He’s creative and runs some interesting stuff. But he never had a top passing game. Also, he seems to love TEs so that would scare me with the Eagles lack of good TEs.

Roob’s Random Observations: Some coaching candidates the Eagles should consider – NBCSP
What if A.J. Brown isn’t here? Then what? Should Howie Roseman go get a wide receiver in the first round? It looks like a good WR draft, although the top four or five guys will be gone if the Eagles stay at No. 23. But there should be good options at 23, including Washington’s Denzel Boston, Georgia’s Zachariah Branch and Tennessee’s Chris Brazzell II. The Eagles haven’t drafted a WR in the first four rounds of the last four drafts, since DeVonta Smith in 2021. So they’re due. There aren’t a ton of realistic options in free agency, although Nick Sirianni favorite Keenan Allen is due to hit the market. But he’s 32 and not the player he was in his first go-round with the Chargers. It would be fun to snag George Pickens from the Cowboys after they poached Christian Parker as their defensive coordinator. But the Cowboys aren’t going to let Pickens go after the year he had. In-house? The Eagles like Darius Cooper, and he’s got a high ceiling, but it would be foolish to think he can step in next year and be a legit WR2. Quez Watkins is still around, but his one good season was back in 2021, and it’s hard to imagine him contributing at this point. So drafting a guy might be the best remaining option. The problem with drafting a WR is you hate to see Brown force you away from taking what you really need at 23, which is an outside corner or an edge. But here we are. The hope is the Eagles can make it work with A.J., and maybe once the new offensive coordinator sits down with him and assures him he’s going to be a focal point of the offense he’ll warm up to the idea of staying with the team where he’s had his best seasons. But it sure seems like things aren’t heading that way.

The non-traditional reason the Cowboys hiring of Christian Parker is a hit – Blogging The Boys
The Dallas Cowboys made a decision on Thursday afternoon and went with Christian Parker to be their new defensive coordinator. Let’s stipulate at the very beginning that this move may fail. It is possible, the laws of probability suggest it is even probable, that someday in the future we are lamenting that the Cowboys chose Parker through the benefit of hindsight. Many Cowboys fans were excited about the Matt Eberflus hire a year ago. Given his previous stint with the team, the thought was that it would translate (although no one anticipated a trade that would dramatically change the fabric of his defense). Hindsight is indeed a valuable tool. As possible/probable as it is that Parker flames out with the Cowboys though, I am declaring right now that I will not feel that way. I can’t for one reason.

Washington Commanders Coaching Search Tracker: Steelers DC interviewed – Hogs Haven
Teryl Austin interviewed. The Washington Commanders reportedly prefer to hire a coach with play calling experience as their next defensive coordinator and they’ve added a new name to the list. The Steelers are searching for a new head coach after Mike Tomlin stepped down. His defensive coordinator Teryl Austin has interviewed to be Washington’s next DC.

How will the NY Giants’ spend money in the John Harbaugh era? – Big Blue View
Thus I’d expect Harbaugh to lobby strongly with Schoen (and ownership since he will report directly to them) to start using void years more regularly to fill holes on the roster. Jaxson Dart needs a WR2. The defense doesn’t just need a good coordinator, it needs a good run-defending IDL, at least one off-ball linebacker if not two, and at the least depth, if not starters, in the secondary. We might expect a couple of those needs to be filled with the Giants’ first and second round draft picks, but they have no third round pick, and any player chosen on Day 3 should not be counted on to start as a rookie. Again, the use of void years to make signing more or better free agents possible implies additional cash spending in the current year, so depending on how many bottles of Silver Oak Cabernet were consumed at Elia Mediterranean last weekend, Harbaugh may or may not have gotten a commitment from ownership to spend more.

Dolphins promote Bobby Slowik to offensive coordinator – The Phinsider
The Miami Dolphins have a new offensive coordinator. Bobby Slowik, who previously held the title of senior passing game coordinator with the Dolphins in 2025, has been promoted to the team’s offensive coordinator position, per Ian Rapoport on X.

Steelers hire Mike McCarthy as next head coach – Behind The Steel Curtain
The Pittsburgh Steelers have a new head coach. After Mike Tomlin stepped down following a 19-season tenure, the Steelers are hiring former Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy as their next head coach, per Adam Schefter.

NFL coaching hire grades for every team involved in 2026 cycle – SB Nation
Pittsburgh Steelers: Mike McCarthy. Similar to the Jesse Minter move, this is a homecoming for Mike McCarthy. McCarthy grew up in the area, and now gets a chance to coach the team he rooted for when he was younger. McCarthy becomes just the fifth head coach of the Steelers since 1969, when the organization hired Chuck Noll. Since then Bill Cowher and Mike Tomlin were their only two other coaches, until today. The biggest question will be the quarterback position. Does this open the door to a return for Aaron Rodgers? When Tomlin stepped down the immediate thought was that the door was closed, but now a could a reunion be in the works?

Super Bowl LX is set: Seahawks vs. Patriots

imagn-8358936.jpg

The Philadelphia Eagles have less than two weeks remaining as the reigning Super Bowl champions.

The stage for Super Bowl LX is officially set with the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots facing off at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday, February 8. The action starts at 6:30 PM Eastern (NBC/Peacock).

I think it’s safe to say the Philadelphia Eagles’ rooting interest in this game is clear. Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are gone, yeah. And the Birds obviously already beat this franchise in Super Bowl LII. But it’s still never fun to see the Pats win. No one wants more Boston sports success.

The Seahawks have sure had the Eagles’ number for some time but it’s not like these two NFC teams are bitter rivals. Seattle also deserves to be in this spot. They’ve been the No. 1 team in terms of point differential and DVOA for most of the 2025 season. They’re really good and not just because they’ve played an incredibly soft schedule, unlike the Pats.

So, yeah. Go Seahawks!

(For what it’s worth, Seattle is favored by 4.5 points in the big game.)

LOL oh man you Eagles fans are REALLY gonna hate this but I gotta say it - you guys should be BEGGING for Daboll to stay away from Philly and come back home to Buffalo where he belongs!

Seriously though, watching this OC search play out has been entertaining as hell. Slowik already bolted to Miami, and now you're looking at Declan Doyle? Kid's got potential but that's a MASSIVE swing for a team trying to keep their Super Bowl window open. At least with Daboll you know what you're getting - the dude literally helped build Josh Allen into an MVP candidate. Not that I'm biased or anything... 😏

The Jordan Davis extension situation is interesting though. That defensive line is NASTY and if you let Ojomo walk next year while paying both Davis and Carter, you better hope those two keep dominating because depth matters in the trenches.

And speaking of losing people - Christian Parker to Dallas AND potentially Ronell Williams following him? That's gotta sting. Vic Fangio's gonna need some bodies on that defensive staff.

As for the Super Bowl matchup - go Seahawks obviously. Nobody needs to see the Patriots add another ring. Seattle's been legit all year, best point differential in the league. Plus watching Brady have to call the game where his old team potentially loses is *chef's kiss*.

Your reign as champs is almost over Philly! Better enjoy these last two weeks! 🦬

NFL Mock Draft Monday: Mock season is here

gettyimages-2246584395.jpg

Mock draft season is here. Oh yeah.

It is January. All of these will be wrong, because January mocks are purely speculative. Take for example Dane Brugler, who I think is the best in the business, his mock from this time last year had Will Johnson 5th overall, Shedeur Sanders 6th, Luther Burden 12th, Kaleb Johnson 24th, Shavon Revel 29th, and the Eagles taking JT Tuimoloau at 30. None of them were 1st round picks. Not picking on Dane at all, just showing that right now it’s just a guessing game.

Mel Kiper – ESPN: Avieon Terrell, CB, Clemson

Philadelphia could go a lot of directions, especially if it moves on from wide receiver A.J. Brown this offseason. But one spot that has received a lot of attention is actually on defense. The Eagles tried to fix the CB2 position opposite Quinyon Mitchell (Cooper DeJean is in the slot) with trades for Jaire Alexander and Michael Carter II, but neither move did the trick. Carter barely played down the stretch, and Alexander stepped away from football in mid-November.

Terrell, though, would be a reliable answer. He broke up nine passes and forced five — yes, five — fumbles in 2025. He’s terrific in man coverage, and coordinator Vic Fangio had his defense in man 55% of the time this season, third most in the NFL.

Though a reliable outside CB opposite Quinyon Mitchell is definitely a need, it may not be a 1st round need. The Eagles already have elite players at CB1 and slot CB. Thinking long term, Jalen Carter, Quinyon Mitchell, and Cooper DeJean are going to have to get paid. It may not be exciting but the team may be better off going through cheap free agents and later round draft picks. Over the past two seasons, 20 CBs have changed teams in free agency with an AAV of between $1.5-4M.

As for Terrell, well, at 5-11 180, he’s smaller than Cooper DeJean. That doesn’t disqualify him from being a top prospect, he is a really good player. But the Eagles have bigger needs than an undersized outside corner in the 1st round.

Eddie Brown, San Diego Union Tribune – Caleb Lomu, T, Utah

Five-time All-Pro tackle Lane Johnson is under contract through the 2027 season, but he’s 35 years old and missed eight games this season while battling neck and back issues before suffering a Lisfranc injury in Week 11. The Eagles were 3-5 without Johnson, including a 23-19 season-ending loss in the wild-card round to the 49ers. Lomu earned Freshman All-American honors in 2024, and possesses this draft class’ highest ceiling at offensive tackle. He’s already a technically proficient pass blocker with prototypical size (6-6, 305), elite athleticism and solid footwork. He’ll need to add strength to improve as a run blocker, and hold his own against powerful pass rushers in the pros.

Lomu is a popular pick in January for the Eagles. I’ve been wanting the Eagles to prioritize a Lane Johnson replacement for a couple of seasons now.

Lomu doesn’t seem like the Eagles type though. He is big, 6-6 308, he’s mobile, and a good pass protector. But the big concern with him is his strength and ability to run block. That is not the kind of player that gets admitted to Stoutland University. The OT class this year had several guys in line to step up in Lomu, his team mate Spencer Fano, Miami’s Francis Mauigoa, Alabama’s Kadyn Proctor, Oregon’s Isaiah World, and none of them really stepped up this year.

Vinny Iyer, Sporting News – Kenyon Sadiq, TE, Oregon

Dallas Goedert had a career year scoring touchdowns but he just turned 31 and is a pending free agent. Sadiq would add another welcome explosive element to create mismatches between A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith to get open down the seam for Jalen Hurts.

Sadiq is TE1 in a draft with a huge gap until the next guy. Whoever TE2 is (Max Klare? Eli Stowers? Michael Trigg?) might not go until the 4th round. So if you need a TE, you can’t wait.

The Eagles may need a TE, because they kept waiting to find a Goedert replacement. They could have drafted one in 2025, when seven went in the first four rounds, or in 2023 or 2024, when nine did in each. This is another position I have been wanting them to draft for a few years. Zach Ertz was in his 6th and age 28 season when Goedert was drafted. Goedert’s 6th and age 28 season was in 2023. Now Goedert is 31, not under contract after catching half the Eagles TD passes, and the Eagles have no replacement plan waiting in the wings.

Sadiq probably won’t be their replacement plan. The Eagles offense, whether it be because of the coach, the QB, or both, doesn’t throw to the middle of the field. There’s little point in spending a premium pick on a player who will be getting a lot of cardio. Sadiq, 6-3 245, is not a traditional big red zone target like Goedert is, and I think he needs a lot of work as a blocker. It is also concerning that over his last four games he had just 15 catches for 5.4 yards per catch.

Daniel Jeremiah’s first mock draft has the Eagles adding to the secondary

imagn-27476813.jpg

The Super Bowl is the only game left to play to wrap up the 2025 season, and the rest of the NFL has turned their sites to the future. As teams start filling their coaching vacancies — and the Eagles continue to meet with, but not secure, their OC targets —, they’re also looking at building their new rosters, which means, Daniel Jeremiah has released his first official mock draft of the offseason.

With the No. 23 overall pick, Jeremiah has the Eagles taking CB Avieon Terrell out of Clemson.

“Terrell teams up with Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell to give the Eagles the best young secondary in the NFL. The former Clemson Tiger can play inside or outside.“

It’s certainly an interesting choice given some of the other areas that need addressing, but Howie Roseman has been very open and confident in the team’s approach in drafting the best player available, regardless of perceived need at any one position. With that in mind, Terrell is an interesting option, and would help form a unit that could stay together for several years.

Terrell played three seasons at Clemson and had 125 total tackles, 25 passes defended, 8 forced fumbles, 4 sacks, 3 interceptions, and 3 fumble recoveries. He also finished No. 1 in the ACC, and No. 3 in the whole NCAA, last season with five forced fumbles.

NFL Analyst Lance Zierlein has Terrell graded as a good future starter, and had this to say about the prospect:

“Avieon shares the same bloodlines and coverage temperament as his brother, A.J., a first-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons in 2020. Avieon Terrell is an athletic, fluid mover with clean transitions and enough speed to stay in phase on most vertical routes. He’s most effective in press-man coverage, where he mirrors releases with timing and discipline, staying crowded to the route. He concedes 50/50s to bigger targets at times, but is a constant catch irritant with good technique on all three levels. He can play wide or inside and is willing in run support, but he lacks ideal size. Terrell projects as an early starter thanks to his polish, ball skills and coverage versatility.”

Terrell is 5-foot-11, 180 pounds, and his size is considered one of his few weaknesses, but it hasn’t kept him from being a first-round target.

There will certainly be many names tied to the Eagles over the next few months, but CB in the first round is an interesting way to start draft season.

Brian Daboll reportedly expected to choose Titans over Eagles (if not hired as Raiders head coach)

gettyimages-2238016538.jpg

A timeline of Brian Daboll events as they relate to the Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive coordinator search:

  • January 14, 2026 — Daboll and Mike McDaniel are said to be the two names at the top of the Eagles’ OC list.
  • January 18, 2026 — Daboll is expected to interview with the Eagles.
  • January 20, 2026 — Daboll interviews with the Eagles.
  • January 21, 2026 — Daboll is expected to become the new Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator if he doesn’t land the Buffalo Bills head coaching job.
  • January 23, 2026 — Daboll is said to be still in the mix for the Eagles.
  • January 27, 2026 — Daboll is ruled out of the Bills’ head coaching search with Buffalo promoting Joe Brady.

This brings us to today’s latest news, which comes from The Athletic: Daboll is expected to choose the Titans over the Eagles if he doesn’t get the Las Vegas Raiders head coaching job.

Brian Daboll is a finalist for the Raiders’ head coaching job after completing his second interview with the team, while also remaining in consideration for offensive coordinator roles with the Titans and Eagles.

Tennessee expects Daboll to choose joining Robert Saleh’s staff https://t.co/FXnzJttuTE

More confirmation from ESPN:

ESPN sources: The Titans are now set to hire former Giants head coach Brian Daboll as their offensive coordinator, contingent upon him not getting the Raiders head coaching job. pic.twitter.com/mvdUyX81fv

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) January 27, 2026

Daboll was one of the most experienced and established play-callers available to the Eagles … but he wasn’t necessarily a slam dunk hire. Still, the optics of him seemingly turning down the Eagles to work with the Titans instead aren’t great.

In any case, the Eagles need a new offensive coordinator as their search to replace Kevin Patullo (who still remains employed by the team) continues.

Here are the remaining known candidates:

  • Former Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Frank Smith
  • Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard
  • Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter
  • Former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy
  • Houston Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson
  • Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion

Eagles reportedly interviewed Packers quarterbacks coach for offensive coordinator

gettyimages-2190486412.jpg

There’s a new known candidate in the Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive coordinator search.

The Birds interviewed Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Sam Mannion, according to a report from Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports. UPDATE: Mike Garafolo notes that Mannion previously interviewed virtually but will now come to Philly for an in-person interview.

The #Eagles will interview #Packers QB coach Sean Mannion in person this week for their offensive coordinator job, source says. He’s already interviewed once virtually, as @mzenitz reported. The former NFL QB is now going further down the road with Philly on its OC search. pic.twitter.com/Is1z0vNQY5

— Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) January 27, 2026

Mannion was a third-round pick (No. 89 overall) by the St. Louis Rams in the 2015 NFL Draft. He made three starts in 14 career games played before retiring after the 2023 season. Mannion quickly pivoted to coaching; he joined Matt LaFleur’s coaching staff as an offensive assistant in 2024. He was then promoted to his current title in 2025 to replace Tom Clements, who retired.

Some reasons why Mannion could appeal to the Eagles:

  • He has connections to Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay through working with LaFleur on the Packers.
  • He has a connection to McVay through being on the Los Angeles Rams’ roster for multiple seasons.
  • He has a connection to Kevin O’Connell through being on the Minnesota Vikings’ roster for multiple stints.
  • Jordan Love logged the second-best passer rating of his career with Mannion as his position coach.
  • Backup quarterback Malik Willis has performed much better with the Packers than he did with the Tennessee Titans whenever he’s had to play.

The flip side is that Mannion obviously lacks play-calling experience and he’s only two seasons into his coaching career.

Hiring Mannion seems like a big risk but it could be preferable to some of the lower upside offensive coordinator options that remain available to the Eagles.

Eagles, Jim Bob Cooter reportedly meet for second interview

gettyimages-2174215590.jpg

Are the Philadelphia Eagles narrowing their offensive coordinator search down to a few finalists?

The Birds reportedly hosted Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion for an in-person interview on Wednesday after previously meeting with him virtually.

And we’ve now come to learn this second interview took place one day after the Eagles held a second meeting with Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter on Tuesday. This much according to a report from NFL insider Jeremy Fowler.

The Eagles’ interest in Cooter was first reported on January 17. It was hardly a surprise to see his name up in this search since he previously worked as a consultant for the Eagles in 2021 before working with Doug Pederson in 2022 and then Shane Steichen for the last three seasons.

Cooter has play-calling experience from his time with the Detroit Lions, though his stint there ended in 2018. The Eagles could prefer not going with a first-time play-caller after the Kevin Patullo experience went awry in 2025.

But is removing Patullo just to hire another Nick Sirianni ally really the right solution for the Eagles? He’s really the best candidate for the job after conducting a broad search? How much is going to change with the offense if Cooter is the hire?

We might get a chance to see.

More on the Eagles’ offensive coordinator search from NFL insider Adam Schefter:

“Well, they might not be the big names that Sal [Pal] and Philadelphia may like, but they’ve spent the last couple days talking to Jim Bob Cooter of the Indianapolis Colts and Sean Mannion, the Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach, who a lot of people believe has a bright coaching future. And they’re looking for the right fit for one of these jobs. They’ve been through any number of candidates, they don’t appear to be in any rush to name somebody, they have Nick Sirianni who always can call the offense if they don’t find anybody worthy of doing the job. But they’re being diligent looking for the right match. And, also, again, the fit is not right for everybody, as we’ve seen. Some people have taken other jobs, some people have pulled out of consideration. But they think — they think — there are enough good candidates out there that they’re going to come out of this with a good, strong offensive coordinator.

Sirianni calling plays for the first time since 2021 when he had to give it up because he was bad at it? Not super inspiring, though it could be a case of the Eagles seeing if the head coach can sink or swim in terms of helping the offense.

Perhaps it won’t come to that. But it sounds like Schefter is setting the table for the possibility that they don’t hire a play-calling OC?

Former Eagles in the Super Bowl, and Jim Schwartz wants out of Cleveland

gettyimages-2236583117.jpg

As the 2025 NFL season comes to a close, there are still some former Eagles playing in Super Bowl LX, and there’s been a lot of former Philadelphia coaches on the move as nearly a third of the teams are hiring new head coaches and staff.

Here’s a look at some notables from Philly alumni around the league:

Super Bowl bound

There is just one game left of the 2025 NFL season, and it’s a Super Bowl matchup between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks.

The Patriots have several former Eagles on their roster, including LB Christian Elliss, WR Mack Hollins, and IDL Milton Williams — and, after Philly didn’t sign OLB Patrick Johnson to a futures contract, the veteran signed onto the Patriots practice squad. For the Seahawks, CB Josh Jobe is making a run for a Super Bowl ring.

Milton Williams is looking for back-to-back rings after signing with New England on a huge deal shortly after winning a Super Bowl with the Eagles. The DT dealt with an high ankle sprain that sidelined him for five games, but he had a good season and recorded eight QB hits and 3.5 sacks.

Jim Schwartz wants to leave the Browns

The Browns moved on from head coach Kevin Stefanski after the 2025 season, and DC Jim Schwartz was among the leading candidates to be promoted and take the reins. Instead, even after having a second interview for the position, and Cleveland narrowing it down to three candidates, the Browns named former Ravens OC Todd Monkin their new head coach.

As a result, Schwartz reportedly said goodbye to a few people in the building, and then left with no intention of returning to the team in 2026. Technically, Schwartz is still under contract, so he can’t just go elsewhere without the team allowing a move. Jordan Schultz reported that Schwartz would not stand down if things turned ugly — the 49ers could be interested in interviewing Schwartz, so the former Eagles DC should have options.

Jim Schwartz has, in fact, told members of the #Browns — essentially — to go screw themselves after being passed over for the HC job.

The Schwartz element was the biggest hurdle Cleveland faced in its long and complicated search, and it’s now blowing back in their face. https://t.co/Ie7mWUogcv pic.twitter.com/IqgpdeQccj

— Ari Meirov (@MySportsUpdate) January 28, 2026

Other former Eagles coaches on the move

  • Christian Parker was expected to get an opportunity after a great (short) stop in Philly, and was hired as the Cowboys’ new DC.
  • Dennard Wilson is joining the NFC East, with the former Eagles DC taking the new coordinator job on John Harbaugh’s staff with the Giants.
  • Jonathan Gannon was fired as the Cardinals head coach and, after taking many interviews around the league, finally landed as the Packers DC in 2026.
  • Frank Reich interviewed with the Jets for their OC position, and hasn’t yet been linked to re-joining the Eagles.
  • Sean McDermott was fired after nine seasons as the Bills head coach, and despite meeting with the Buccaneers, is expected to take a year off and then reassess his options.

Gardner Minshew injury update

The Chiefs were already eliminated from the playoffs, Patrick Mahomes tore his ACL, and then Gardner Minshew was sidelined during his first game as the starter. The former Eagles QB suffered a significant knee injury in Week 17, and while it was initially feared that he also tore his ACL, it turns out that it was a bone bruise and didn’t require surgery.

Thankfully, that means the quarterback is already at full strength while he looks to sign with a new team in free agency.

As it turns out, Chiefs QB Gardner Minshew did not tear his ACL as initially feared, per source. It turned out to be a bone bruise that did not require any surgery. Minshew didn’t suffer any long-term damage to the knee and he already is back to full strength as he prepares to… pic.twitter.com/M7fDxw4F04

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) January 28, 2026

Other Notables

  • Former Eagles draft pick QB Kyle McCord wasn’t re-signed by the organization after the end of the season, and he went on to sign a futures contract with the Packers.
  • RB Lew Nichols signed a futures contract with the Steelers after spending last season on their practice squad.
