ANALYSIS

  • Surprised to see Campbell made the practice squad since he only joined the team one week ago and he hasn’t appeared in a regular season game since 2023. Also because off-ball linebackers Dallas Gant and Lance Dixon had good summers and weren’t added to the PS (yet, at least). Helping Campbell is that he played for Eagles linebackers coach Bobby King on the Tennessee Titans.
  • Cooks was having a good training camp prior to suffering a shoulder injury in the Eagles’ first preseason game. He struggled after returning to action. Still good to keep him around as WR depth, even though his upside is likely limited since he turns 27 in October.
  • Estime is a new addition. The 21-year-old running back was a fifth-round pick by the Denver Broncos in the 2024 NFL Draft. He figures to be RB4 behind Saquon Barkley, Will Shipley, and AJ Dillon.
  • Green struggled to stay healthy and play well this summer. Despite this, he’ll still have an opportunity to attend Jeff Stoutland University. There could still be hope for the 2022 first-round pick in the long term; he’s only 24.
  • Jenkins figures to be the fourth tight end behind Dallas Goedert, Grant Calcaterra, and Kylen Granson. If any of them get banged up, Jenkins is a strong candidate to be temporarily elevated to the game day roster as TE3.
  • Brandon Johnson showed some promise as a depth nickel cornerback.
  • Getting Patrick Johnson back on the practice squad is ideal. A number of 53-man roster projections (including my own) had him making the team. Hard to keep him off, really, after he had a good summer and knowing he can help on special teams. Strong candidate to be temporarily elevated to the roster early in the season. He might eventually be signed to the Eagles’ roster if he’s not already poached away from their practice squad before then.
  • Glad to see the Eagles keeping Latu. We’ve noted multiple times that he didn’t really show much as an offensive player but he looked very good on special teams coverage units. He could be temporarily elevated if the Eagles need some ST help at some point this season.
  • Marshall is the Eagles’ equivalent of a quad-A player in baseball. Cromulent “break glass in case of emergency” wide receiver option to have on the practice squad. Basically what Parris Campbell was for this team last year.
  • Not surprised to see McCord was not claimed. He’s simply not ready to play meaningful snaps in 2025. Another team wasn’t going to clear a roster spot for him. It’s possible he gets poached later on this season if a team is dealing with a ton of QB injuries. And/or they’re desperate to add anyone with a modicum of potential upside at QB. For now, McCord is QB4 in Philly behind Jalen Hurts, Tanner McKee, and Sam Howell.
  • Nickerson is another quad-A type player. The Eagles can temporarily elevate him if they’re dealing with multiple cornerback injuries. Or eventually try him at CB2 if all else fails, which wouldn’t be good.
  • Pierce definitely needs time to develop. The Trenton, New Jersey native is probably glad to be staying close to home.
  • Getting APR through waivers is nice. He finally flashed some potential in the Eagles’ preseason finale. But the rookie edge rusher doesn’t look ready to play meaningful snaps in 2025.
  • Thought Ricks might look for a new NFL home with a better path to playing time. He’s likely the eighth CB in Philly behind the six on the roster and Nickerson on the PS.
  • With the Eagles waiving Tristin McCollum, Sam is a strong candidate to be temporarily elevated from the practice squad early in the season to be a fourth safety. That is, unless the Eagles get McCollum to the practice squad.
  • Speaking of that much, the recently waived McCollum and Trevor Keegan could contend fill out the remaining final practice squad spot (actually two remaining if one of them is international exemption Laekin Vakalahi, who curiously wasn’t signed after he made the Eagles’ initial practice squad signing announcement at this time last year). We could see more news on that front tomorrow.
  • In case you missed it, Eagles 2024 draft pick Ainias Smith signed with the Carolina Panthers’ practice squad. Philly’s punt returner situation still remains unclear.
  • Notable Eagles practice squad omissions: Gant, Dixon, Ainias Smith, Montrell Johnson, Maxen Hook, Jacob Sykes.

Eagles injury news: A.J. Brown, Landon Dickerson among players returning to practice

gettyimages-2227414952.jpg

On Wednesday, the Philadelphia Eagles held their first practice following Tuesday’s roster cuts down to 53 players.

While the team is not yet required to issue an official injury report (the first one will be revealed on Monday, September 2), there are multiple updates that were gleaned from the brief media-attended portion of Wednesday’s practice.

The good news

A.J. Brown (hamstring), Landon Dickerson (knee), DeVonta Smith (groin), and Jordan Mailata (concussion) all returned to practice after being absent for the team’s last session one week ago.

Brown was seen moving well during the Eagles’ pregame warmups ahead of the preseason finale, so, this development comes as no major surprise. Still, the confirmation is good since Brown missed a large portion of training camp due to his hamstring injury.

Dickerson being able to practice is both surprising and encouraging as it relates to him being able to play against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1. Guessing he was not a full participant in practice but that he was participating at all is impressive.

That Nick Sirianni was drawing attention to Dickerson might also be a good sign?

The bad news

Andrew Mukuba (hamstring) did not practice. The fact that the Eagles went down to three safeties (plus Cooper DeJean) by waiving Tristin McCollum seems to suggest that Mukuba’s injury isn’t a major deal. But he’s still not practicing after getting injured last Tuesday. And so it looks like it’ll be Sydney Brown starting in Week 1.

Tanner McKee (fractured thumb) was moving around at practice but he was not seen holding a football. It’s looking like Sam Howell (who was wearing No. 14, previously worn by Dorian Thompson-Robinson) will be QB2 behind Jalen Hurts in Week 1. McKee might be able to return in Week 2 or Week 3.

— John McMullen (@JFMcMullen) August 27, 2025

Joshua Uche (groin) was seen doing some rehab work on a side field. He might be in danger of missing Week 1.

The unclear

Kelee Ringo (quad) did not practice last Wednesday. It wasn’t made clear if he was practicing today.

Eagles reportedly sign Broncos 2024 draft pick to practice squad

imagn-26829226.jpg

The Philadelphia Eagles are signing free agent running back Audric Estimé to their practice squad, according to a report from NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

Estimé, who turns 22 years old on September 6, played college football for Notre Dame before being selected by the Denver Broncos with a fifth-round pick (No. 147 overall) in the 2024 NFL Draft.

As a rookie, Estimé got hurt in Week 1 and landed on injured reserve until being activated in October. He ultimately made one start in 13 games played. He logged 76 rushing attempts for 310 yards (4.1 average) and two touchdowns. He also caught all five of his targets for 27 yards. He fumbled twice.

Estimé clearly fell out of favor with Sean Payton, as highlighted by our associates over at Mile High Report:

This is not a huge surprise due to Estime falling out of favor with the Broncos. The former 5th-round pick came to the team with lots of hype and was given an opportunity to shine. That never happened, and he was later a healthy scratch for the Broncos’ wildcard game vs. the Bills. On top of that, the team would go out and draft R.J. Harvey in the 2nd round and then sign veteran running back J.K. Dobbins. Both of those additions changed the running back room significantly. Estime’s fall from grace became apparent when he was clearly last on the depth chart throughout camp and the preseason before eventually being waived by the team.

Now in Philly, Estimé figures to be the fourth running back option behind Saquon Barkley, Will Shipley, and AJ Dillon. The Eagles are more interested in his upside than the Broncos ended up being.

BGN’s Ben Natan had Estimé as his third-ranked running back in the 2024 NFL Draft:

What he does well: Audric Estime is a big, powerful back that can outrun defenses at his top gear. While he has some home run ability to him, his strong running style allows him to gain tough yardage early in the play. Where he can Improve: Estime is more of a classic power back in a lot of ways. His straight line speed is more than enough, but he doesn’t have a lot of wiggle to him. He is also not a proven pass catcher, though he does a good job in pass protection. Pro Comparison: Chris Carson

BGN’s Jonny Page was relatively lower on Estimé, ranking him as his RB8:

Summary: A physical early-down bruiser who will provide a team with a no-nonsense inside runner, but he lacks the fluidity, agility, or speed to be anything more than an early-down hammer. Eagles Thoughts: I wouldn’t look at Estimé, unless the Eagles want a bruiser on day 3 to take on some short-yardage stuff and give Barkley a rest. Jalen Hurts plays such a big role in short yardage, which is why I have Estimé, quite low on my list, despite liking the skill set of the player.

Yet another pre-draft scouting report via NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein:

Thickly muscled runner capable of wearing out defenses through a heavier workload. There were times Estimé played too slowly when forced to process moving pieces up front, but he showed a greater willingness to cut it loose as the season progressed. He’s naturally powerful with adequate foot agility. Estimé doesn’t have the bend to be a one-cut runner but can make reactive cuts to sudden tacklers near the line of scrimmage. If he can hit the gas with a heavier foot, he’ll continue to break tackles and maximize yardage after contact. He’s a better weapon out of the backfield than he might get credit for being, and he could check into the league as part of a two-headed running attack with the ability to shine near the goal line.

Former Eagles starting safety returns to Philadelphia

gettyimages-1443955626.jpg

Some late night roster news: the Philadelphia Eagles are re-signing former starting safety Marcus Epps.

This much according to a report from NFL insider Tom Pelissero.

We highlighted the possibility of the Eagles re-signing Epps earlier on Wednesday:

The former starting Eagles safety was released by the New England Patriots. Reports indicate Epps asked to be cut, perhaps with the idea he could find a better path to playing time elsewhere.

A return to Philly could make sense, especially if Andrew Mukuba’s hamstring injury prevents him from practicing leading up to Week 1.

On that note, Mukuba has not yet returned to practice. It’s possible the rookie won’t be ready to play Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys.

In addition to Mukuba’s status being up in the air, the Eagles waived Tristin McCollum on Wednesday. That move left them with just three safeties (plus Cooper DeJean, who has taken reps on the back end in the Eagles’ base defense) on their 53-man roster. Re-signing Epps gives them four again.

The Eagles originally acquired a rookie Epps off waivers from the Minnesota Vikings (who drafted him with a sixth-round pick) in early November 2019. He progressively worked his way up from fringe roster player to rotational contributor to full-time starter for the Eagles in 2022. Following that season, he signed a multi-year contract with the Las Vegas Raiders in free agency. Epps started all 17 games for them in 2023 before suffering an ACL injury that limited him to just three games played in 2024. Epps then signed with the aforementioned Patriots on a one-year “prove it” deal in March earlier this year. Now he’s back in Philly.

Though he’s returning to a familiar team, Epps will be learning a new system. He previously played for Jim Schwartz and Jonathan Gannon (boo) and now he’s working under Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. One would think Epps isn’t ready to play a major role on defense right away.

As it currently stands, Sydney Brown is projected to start in Week 1. That could change if Mukuba gets real healthy real soon. If not, Mukuba might still be able to overtake Brown when he does return. If neither Brown nor Mukuba seize the starting safety job, perhaps Epps takes over as the fallback option. The Eagles would probably prefer that he remains a veteran backup who can also help out on special teams.

What’s the best-case scenario for the Eagles with the Micah Parsons situation?

gettyimages-2191766907.jpg

The clock is ticking in Jerry World. The Eagles kick off their Super Bowl title defense against the Cowboys in just eight days in South Philadelphia and the Cowboys are still at an impasse with superstar pass-rusher Micah Parsons. Parsons, who has 52.5 sacks across his first four NFL seasons, wants a new contract that would make him the highest paid non-quarterback in league history. Dallas and Jerry Jones, whether it be due ego, incompetence or something else entirely, don’t want to pay the man.

Their loss is the Eagles’ gain. Parsons is in danger of missing Week 1 if this continues down that path and he remains disgruntled. With negotiations not going anywhere, Parsons has requested a trade this summer. While it would be hilarious if the Cowboys bungled drafting the second coming of Lawrence Taylor, is that really the best-case scenario for the Birds? Let’s run down the options.

  • Parsons doesn’t play a snap this year and has a Le’Veon Bell-esque season-long holdout.
  • Parsons and Dallas play nice and get a deal done.
  • Parsons is traded elsewhere to a contender.

I’m of two mindsets here, imagining what would be the most embarrassing turn of events for Jones and the Cowboys compared to what would have the greatest impact on the Eagles’ hopes of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy again.

The best-case scenario football-wise is that Parsons sits out 2025 and we see what next offseason holds. Parsons can’t sack Jalen Hurts if he’s not in pads for any team out there!

While Parsons is a game-altering talent, him being on the Cowboys doesn’t scare me much when it comes to the Eagles’ championship hopes. Do you truly believe the Jones-run Cowboys are going to make a true Super Bowl run in the 21st century? Did you watch that Netflix documentary series? It’s not happening. It would be the best thing for the Cowboys if they can keep one of the sport’s premier players, but they’re not a real threat to win it all with or without Parsons!

If Parsons gets traded, I’m sure some Cowboys fans would tout it as the Herschel Walker trade 2.0 with the boatload of picks they’d receive in returns. That’s not an apt comparison though. Parsons is at the age and position where a team should build their roster around him. He’s not a 27-year-old running back on a 1-15 team. Dallas would look atrocious if it played out like that, so part of me wants that to happen, but it could bite the Eagles depending on where he lands.

If he goes to an AFC team? That works well enough. Perhaps the Eagles will face him in Santa Clara in February. If he goes to an NFC team like Los Angeles or Green Bay that the Birds both play in the regular season and could conceivably face again in the playoffs, that’s a little more iffy. An actual winning organization with a better roster in place could elevate Parsons to another level. Still, part of me would just love it if Dallas lost their best player this century because ol’ Jerry wanted to play games in the media.

Maybe I’m leaning too much into schadenfreude and should worry about the Eagles’ CB2 situation or their edge-rusher depth instead, but, hey, when the Birds are reigning champs and the Cowboys have been a disappointment for nearly my entire life, you can live a little.

Eagles to wear Kelly Green jerseys for 3 division games in 2025

gettyimages-2182732810.jpg

The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced they’ll be wearing their Kelly Green jerseys for the following three games during the 2025 NFL season:

  • Week 8 – vs. New York Giants (October 26, 1:00 PM, FOX)
  • Week 12 – at Dallas Cowboys (November 23, 4:25 PM, FOX)
  • Week 18 – vs. Washington Commanders (TBD)

You’ll notice that these are all NFC East matchups. That’s a smart decision by the Birds, who are undefeated in their throwbacks since they brought them back as an alternate jersey two years ago. They beat the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills in 2023 and the Jacksonville Jaguars and Dallas Cowboys in 2024.

Speaking of Dallas, the Eagles will be able to take Kelly Green to AT&T Stadium since the Cowboys often prefer to wear their road white jerseys while playing at home.

With NFL teams now permitted to wear alternate jerseys up to four times per season, three Kelly Green games means the Eagles will only have one all-black uniform game (at most). Maybe they’ll save that for their Week 11 home game against the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football? We’ll see.

In non-Eagles jersey news, the NFL announced the new “rivalry uniforms” for the NFC West and AFC East this season. The Eagles aren’t due to get their version until 207.

Eagles tried to claim cornerback off waivers

gettyimages-2174442663.jpg

The Philadelphia Eagles made a successful waiver wire claim to acquire depth offensive lineman Willie Lampkin. They were unsuccessful in trying to claim another one of their targets.

The Eagles were one of four teams who put a claim in on waived Baltimore Ravens cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis, per ESPN’s Field Yates. The other clubs involved were the Tennessee Titans, the New Orleans Saints, and the Miami Dolphins.

With the NFL waiver wire order mirroring the previous NFL Draft order, the Titans had the priority and thus landed JAD. And so the Eagles were never even close to having a chance at him.

But this is still a noteworthy development for multiple reasons:

  • 1) It shows the Eagles had interest in rostering another cornerback despite already carrying six on their roster.
  • 2) The Eagles could have interest in Jalyn Armour-Davis if he becomes available again in the future.

JAD, who played college football at Alabama (wow, shocking the Eagles would have interest in this guy), was originally selected by the Baltimore Ravens with a fourth-round pick (No. 119 overall) in the 2022 NFL Draft. He made three starts in 19 games played over three seasons while dealing with multiple injury issues. Our associates over at Baltimore Beatdown wondered if he might have been turning a corner (no pun intended) in his career:

In a dominant 30-3 win over the Washington Commanders this past weekend in the preseason finale, he recorded an interception with two pass breakups. He had two pass breakups in the opening preseason contest against the Indianapolis Colts earlier this month as well.

Armour-Davis, when healthy, has had impressive moments in previous summers too, so it may be reactionary to consider this time around different. However, now in his mid-20s with added experience under his belt, it’s also possible that the former Alabama product has simply improved and is turning a corner. For what it’s worth, he has looked like a much different player recently than even from a year ago.

Alas, JAD is now a Titan instead of being an Eagle.

Eagles practice squad news: Britain Covey returns to Philly to return for Philly

gettyimages-2173030164.jpg

The Philadelphia Eagles filled out their initial 17-player practice squad on Thursday after officially signing 14 players on Wednesday.

The three final spots went to this trio:

  • S Marcus Epps
  • S Britain Covey
  • OT Luke Felix-Fualalo (international exemption)

Let’s sort through this news on a player-by-player basis.

MARCUS EPPS

The Eagles bringing Epps back to Philly was first reported late on Wednesday evening. At the time, there was no specific indication if Epps was signing to the roster or the practice squad. So, now we know he’s on the PS, though he’s a strong candidate to be temporarily elevated to the game day roster early in the season. The Eagles are only carrying three full-time safeties on their 53-man roster: Reed Blankenship, Sydney Brown, and Andrew Mukuba (who is dealing with a hamstring injury). If Mukuba can’t play Week 1, Epps could be the top backup behind Blankenship and Brown.

BRITAIN COVEY

Covey’s return to Philly is certainly no surprise; we already highlighted this possibility.

The Eagles opted not to tender Covey as a restricted free agent this offseason, which made him an unrestricted free agent. The Eagles then signed return specialist Avery Williams, which prompted Covey to look for a new NFL home. Covey inked a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Rams … who waived him this week. With the Eagles currently lacking a clear-cut answer at punt returner, signing Covey to the practice squad makes too much sense not to happen. They can temporarily elevate him to handle those duties early in the season and then figure out if they should add him to the roster or not later on.

The Eagles had no obvious punt returner option prior to re-signing Covey. It doesn’t seem like the team wants to use Cooper DeJean in that role, especially now that he’s projected to play 100% of the Eagles’ defensive snaps. Jahan Dotson has some experience doing it but he also has a role on offense as the third wide receiver.

And so the Eagles will likely temporarily elevate Covey to be their punt returner early in the season. They can figure out if they want to use a roster spot on him later down the road. Note that practice squad players can be elevated up to three times per season.

LUKE FELIX-FUALALO

The Eagles apparently decided to pull the plug on the Laekin Vakalahi experiment after not seeing enough developmental progress from him. Valakahi had two more season (including this one) of exemption eligibility left.

Instead, the Eagles are pivoting to LFF (not to be confused with Lincoln Financial Field) as their international exemption practice squad player. Felix-Fualalo participated in the Seattle Seahawks’ rookie minicamp as a tryout player earlier this offseason before they signed him to their roster. Here’s some insight via our associates over at Field Gulls:

He’s a big fella who stands 6’7 and weighs just under 320 pounds. Felix-Fualalo began his college playing days at Utah before transferring to Hawaii, where he was their starting right tackle. In his 2023 season he allowed only one sack out of 491 pass-blocking snaps, but injuries limited him to just four games started as a sixth-year senior.

Felix-Fualalo has a fascinating story. He’s born in Australia and didn’t play any football until he was a high-schooler in California. His dad was a former international rugby player for Tonga, while his mom played netball for New Zealand. Oh yes, and he’s named after Luke Skywalker from Star Wars.

LFF is probably a long shot to ever make the Eagles’ in-season roster (he’s ineligible to play while on exemption) but we’ll see if enrolling at Jeff Stoutland University helps him develop.

WHERE’S AUDRIC ESTIMÉ?

Estimé was reportedly set to sign with Philly’s practice squad but the 2024 Denver Broncos draft pick was not included in the Eagles’ official roster transactions. Perhaps that signing fell through.

Eagles jersey number updates: New looks for Darius Cooper, Jakorian Bennett, and others

imagn-26802663.jpg

Following NFL roster cuts, multiple Philadelphia Eagles players capitalized on being able to change to newly available jersey numbers. And so here’s a very important #JerseyNumberAnalytics update for you since I’m the definitive authority on this very subject.

OVERVIEW

CHANGES ON THE ROSTER

WR John Metchie — from No. 8o to No. 18

CB Jakorian Bennett — from No. 49 to No. 41

EDGE Ogbo Okoronkwo — from No. 50 to No. 45

WR Darius Cooper — from No. 41 to No. 80

NEW PLAYERS ON THE ROSTER

QB Sam Howell — No. 14

OL Willie Lampkin — No. 61

OT Fred Johnson — No. 74

PRACTICE SQUAD: CHANGES AND NEW (OLD) ADDITIONS

S Marcus Epps — No. 39

OT Luke Felix-Fualalo — No. 72

WR Terrace Marshall — from No. 46 to No. 82

WR Britain Covey — No. 85

TE Cameron Latu — from No. 49 to No. 87

Let’s sort through this news on a player-by-player basis.

JOHN METCHIE

Metchie going from (briefly wearing) No. 80 to No. 18 is a nice upgrade for him. Metchie would probably like to be in No. 8; he wore that in college with Alabama and then with the Houston Texans. But Adoree’ Jackson has that number. Metchie should have a solid season.

JAKORIAN BENNETT

I get No. 49 not being an ideal number. And it should be said that Bennett had very limited options to pick from. But why change to No. 41? That isn’t an upgrade. Unless you’re a fan of Ronald Darby’s look from the 2017 season.

OGBO OKORONKWO

Ogbo wore No. 45 from 2019-2022, so, I get wanting to go back to that. But No. 50 is a better look than No. 45, which is more of an off-ball linebacker or long snapper number. Of course, the real solution here is to force the NFL to reinstate No. 00 and let OO wear that.

DARIUS COOPER

As the world’s biggest Darius Cooper believer, I have to say … I’m really disappointed by this jersey number change. I do like him getting out of No. 41; he graduated out of that UDFA wide receiver number. But No. 80 was not the right answer. The 5’11”, 210 pounder should have a number in the single digits or teens, not the 80s. No. 18 would’ve been good. Or he could’ve restored honor to an Eagles wide receiver with the last name Cooper wearing No. 14. The other problem with No. 80 is that the 8s and 0s in the Eagles’ jersey number font (save for their Kelly Green jerseys) isn’t very good. And the recent history of the number just isn’t good; you have to go back to Kevin Curtis wearing No. 80 to find the last time an Eagles wide receiver had it for multiple seasons. Unfortunately, this is a setback for Cooper’s stock. But not impossible for him to overcome.

SAM HOWELL

No. 14 is fine for an emergency third quarterback, which is what Howell will be once Tanner McKee is healthy enough to back up Jalen Hurts. Howell wore No. 14 for his two seasons with the Washington Commanders.

WILLIE LAMPKIN

Lampkin wore No. 62 with the Los Angeles Rams. This after wearing No. 57 and No. 53 with Coastal Carolina and North Carolina, respectively.

No. 62 obviously wasn’t able to Lampkin in Philly. No. 61 is a good number for him. Ideally, he would’ve gone with No. 50 since he’s a pretty small offensive lineman and that’s the lowest available offensive line number (opposite of Johnny Wilson being a big receiver wearing the highest possible number in No. 89).

No. 61 screams “center” for Lampkin even though he might also train at guard.

FRED JOHNSON

Back with his old team in his old jersey number. Fits like a glove.

MARCUS EPPS

Epps joined the Eagles as No. 37 before upgrading to No. 22, which is currently worn by Mac McWilliams. No. 39 isn’t a great number for Epps in a vacuum but he did start his NFL career wearing No. 39 for the Minnesota Vikings. So, there’s something fitting about him starting from square one again as he figures to be a backup who plays special teams once again.

LUKE FELIX-FUALALO

Previously worn by the likes of Tra Thomas and Super Bowl LII champion Halapoulivaati Vaitai, No. 72 is a really good number for LFF. He might be able to have a real NFL career now.

TERRACE MARSHALL

Marshall had no chance to make the team while wearing No. 46. Now he’s back in a real wide receiver number, albeit while on the practice squad.

BRITAIN COVEY

Covey began his Eagles career as No. 41 before upgrading to No. 18. Now he’s No. 85. That big number just doesn’t look right on a smaller player. The Eagles must’ve promised No. 18 to Metchie before Covey returning to Philly was in the picture.

CAMERON LATU

Going from No. 49 to No. 87 is a big-time glow up for Latu. He is now a better player than he was before this change. Almost too good of a number for a guy whose best chances of playing this season is as a special teams contributor.

Micah Parsons trade rumors continue to swirl ahead of Week 1 Eagles-Cowboys game [UPDATE]

imagn-26865557.jpg

UPDATE: LMAO. The Cowboys actually traded Micah Parsons to the Packers.

Original story below.

In one week from today, the Philadelphia Eagles will be hosting the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL Kickoff Game.

Is Micah Parsons going to be playing for the Cowboys?

That much remains to be seen.

Parsons still has yet to return to practice as he seeks a new contract.

And now there’s news that Dallas seems more open to trading him than they previously seemed to be.

The latest from ESPN’s reporting:

Several teams have spoken to the Dallas Cowboys about a potential Micah Parsons trade, and for the first time the Cowboys appear willing to at least listen, according to multiple sources.

No trade is imminent, but another team always could be aggressive enough to make it come together quickly, per sources.

The Cowboys would like to resolve the situation, one way or another, in the coming days, with their season opener next Thursday against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Cowboys hold their first full practice in preparation for the Eagles on Friday.

That the Cowboys have been more willing to engage in trade discussions about Parsons was also reported by Acme Packing Company’s Justis Mosqueda earlier on Thursday.

Of course, this development doesn’t guarantee that the Cowboys are definitely dealing Parsons. Maybe this is all just part of a negotiating tactic by Jerry Jones.

Perhaps Parsons and the Cowboys come together to agree on a contract extension that clears the way for him to play against the Eagles.

But some of the damage might already been done in terms of Parsons missing all of training camp. Brian Schottenheimer suggested that Parsons will likely be on a pitch count even if he does suit up next Thursday.

And that’s the Cowboys’ realistic best-case scenario.

It’s quite possible things won’t go so well for them. Maybe they trade Parsons. Maybe he sits out Week 1, not unlike how Chris Jones did during the 2023 NFL season opener.

The Eagles will continue to monitor this situation as they prepare to face the Cowboys — with or without Parsons — at Lincoln Financial Field in seven days from now.

Eagles safety claimed off waivers by Raiders

imagn-26873955.jpg

Former Philadelphia Eagles safety Tristin McCollum was claimed off waivers by the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday.

The Eagles waived McCollum, who played 250 defensive snaps and 227 special teams snaps in 2024, on Wednesday. The team also waived 2024 draft pick Trevor Keegan. With those two open roster spots, the Eagles claimed Willie Lampkin off waivers and re-signed veteran long snapper Charley Hughlett.

McCollum was retained on the Eagles’ initial 53-man roster as a fourth safety behind Reed Blankenship, Sydney Brown, and Andrew Mukuba (who is still dealing with a hamstring injury). The Eagles still only have three full-time safeties on their active roster but they did sign Marcus Epps (who coincidentally used to play for the Raiders) to their practice squad with the possible intent of eventually adding him to their roster.

The Raiders rank sixth in the claiming order (which mirrors the 2025 NFL Draft order), so, McCollum didn’t come close to clearing waivers. It remains to be seen if other teams had interest.

Las Vegas notably employs multiple former Eagles front office executives: general manager John Spytek, vice president of player personnel Brandon Hunt, and senior personnel executive Andrew Patch. The latter two, who were hired away from Philly this offseason, likely factored into the Raiders’ interest in McCollum.

Micah Parsons trade: Cowboys send star edge rusher to Packers ahead of Week 1 Eagles game

gettyimages-2232040520.jpg

It happened! The Cowboys actually decided to part ways with one of the best players on their team because owner Jerry Jones is a stubborn old man who won’t pay his players — or negotiate per the CBA with players’ agents.

Rumors started heating up around the time of the roster cut deadline on Tuesday that the Packers had a pretty good deal on the table, with suggestions that Green Bay just needed to agree to new terms with Parsons. Internet rumors don’t always end up being rooted in truth, but this one was, and one of the best edge rushers in the NFL is now out of the NFC East.

The Packers gave up two first round picks and DT Kenny Clark in exchange for Parsons, and then made him the highest paid non-QB in the NFL.

🚨 🚨 🚨

The #Cowboys are trading All-Pro Micah Parsons to the #Packers & they agreed to a 4-year, $188M deal done by @DavidMulugheta and @AndreOdom of @AthletesFirst including $136M gtd, per me, @TomPelissero & @SlaterNFL.

At $47M per year, Parsons is the highest-paid non-QB… pic.twitter.com/kBjqMTcHJ3

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) August 28, 2025

The Eagles — and Lane Johnson specifically — won’t have to worry about game planning for Parsons in Week 1, and won’t have to go against him twice a year, anymore. They will face off once in 2025, though, with the Eagles playing in Green Bay on November 10.

Dallas losing Parsons is pure comedy given how Jones runs his team, and how he’s made a spectacle out of contract negotiations every year for the past decade. He’s proven time and again that any attention is good for the Cowboys, even when it’s an entire fanbase calling out their decisions. Jones finally met his match with Parsons, who held strong, and forced his way out of town.

Don’t feel too bad for Jerry Jones, though, Netflix cared enough about him to do an eight-part series — which will have to serve as his consolation prize for his team’s failure to win a championship in the past 30 years.

Cowboys claim former Eagles blocker off waivers

imagn-25124213.jpg

In what was surely their most impactful roster move on Thursday, the Dallas Cowboys claimed former Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Trevor Keegan off waivers.

The Eagles kept Keegan, one of their three 2024 fifth-round picks, on their initial 53-man roster before waiving him on Wednesday. The Eagles waived both Keegan and Tristin McCollum to make room for claiming Willie Lampkin off waivers from the Los Angeles Rams and re-signing long snapper Charley Hughlett. Both Keegan (by Dallas) and McCollum (by the Las Vegas Raiders) were claimed. Otherwise, they could’ve been candidates to return on the practice squad.

It was surprising to see that the Eagles initially kept Keegan since he was a healthy scratch for all but one game last season and he didn’t perform well in practices and preseason games this summer.

Still, Keegan is 25-year-old offensive lineman who once played for the national champion Michigan Wolverines. The Cowboys are of the belief he can help improve their depth.

The Los Angeles Chargers were also reportedly interested in claiming Keegan. No surprise there since Keegan’s former head coach — Jim Harbaugh — is in charge of the Bolts.

Keegan will return to Philly as a member of the Cowboys when the Eagles host Dallas next Thursday in the NFL Kickoff Game.

Micah Parsons will not be there since the Cowboys traded him to the Green Bay Packers.

Eagles announce 8 captains for the 2025 season

imagn-24500522.jpg

The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced eight team captains for their 2025 NFL season. Nick Sirianni typically allows players to vote for their own captains as opposed to the coaching staff assigning them.

2025 Eagles captains

The following players will wear ‘C’ patches on their uniforms this year:

QB Jalen Hurts

RB Saquon Barkley

WR A.J. Brown

OT Lane Johnson

OT Jordan Mailata

LB Zack Baun

S Reed Blankenship

K Jake Elliott

OBSERVATIONS AND THOUGHTS

  • This is the same captains list as last year … minus retirees Brandon Graham and Darius Slay … and plus Saquon Barkley, Zack Baun, and Reed Blankenship. So, eight captains this year after seven in 2024.
  • Five captains on offense (nearly half of the 11 starters!), two on defense, and one on special teams.
  • No surprise to see Barkley and Baun gain captaincy after being awesome on the field last year. They’re taking bigger roles as leaders entering Year 2 of their Eagles tenure.
  • Reed Blankenship has been a bigger leader than some might realize; he’s previously served on the team’s leadership council. Interesting that he’s a captain when he’s set to be a free agent after this season. Thought there would’ve been a contract extension for him by now.
  • Jalen Hurts is entering his fifth straight year as a team captain. As a result, he’ll now have the gold ‘C’ patch that looks like this:
Screenshot-2025-08-28-at-1.39.54%E2%80%AFPM.png

  • I believe Hurts is the only quarterback to ever wear the gold ‘C’ as a member of the Eagles?
  • Lane Johnson and Jake Elliott are entering his fourth straight years as team captains. They’ll have four gold stars under their white ‘C’ patches. If they’re back as captains in 2026, they’ll join Hurts in going gold.
  • Three-star club: A.J. Brown.
  • Two-star club: Jordan Mailata.
  • Experienced veterans who were notably not named captains: DeVonta Smith (who was a captain two years ago), Landon Dickerson, Cam Jurgens.
  • Some potential future captain candidates include: Smitty, Dickerson, Jurgens, Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith, Jalyx Hunt, Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean.

Eagles placing Willie Lampkin on injured reserve among 5 roster moves

imagn-26368066.jpg

The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced five roster moves on Friday afternoon. Here’s an overview:

  • G/C Willie Lampkin was placed on injured reserve.
  • RB Audric Estimê and DB Ambry Thomas were signed to the practice squad.
  • CB Eli Ricks and WR Terrace Marshall were released from the practice squad.

Let’s sort through this news on a player-by-player basis.

WILLIE LAMPKIN

The Eagles claimed Lampkin off waivers from the Los Angeles Rams earlier this week. Lampkin was cut by the Rams with a “waived/injured” designation due to the knee injury he suffered in the preseason. Lampkin reportedly indicated that his injury isn’t too serious and that he’ll be able to be “back soon.”

By going on IR, Lampkin is automatically ineligible to play in the Eagles’ first four games. He can be activated as early as Week 5, if the Eagles choose to use one of their seven remaining designated for return slots on him. We’ll eventually see if that’s the case.

Lampkin to IR notably opens up a roster spot for the Eagles. The recently re-signed Marcus Epps stands out as the top candidate for that opening since the team currently only has three safeties on the active roster and one of them (Andrew Mukuba) is dealing with a hamstring injury. Britain Covey is another candidate to be signed but it seems like the Eagles can probably get away with temporarily elevating him to be the punt returner for a few weeks before later adding him to the roster, if so desired.

AUDRIC ESTIMÉ

This practice squad signing was originally reported on Wednesday but didn’t become official until now. Estimé is the fourth running back under team control behind Saquon Barkley, Will Shipley, and A.J. Dillon on the roster.

AMBRY THOMAS

The Thomas signing was reported on Thursday evening. His addition gives the Birds another cornerback with starting experience.

ELI RICKS

The Eagles waived Ricks earlier this week only to bring him back on the practice squad. Once a promising undrafted rookie free agent signing in 2023, Ricks thereafter struggled to establish a role on the team. He was mostly a healthy scratch as the team’s seventh cornerback in 2024. He had some good moments this summer but the bad ones outweighed those to the point where he was demoted on the depth chart. And now he’s been replaced by Ambry Thomas.

TERRACE MARSHALL

Marshall had some good moments in spring practices and early in training camp before suffering an injury that derailed his summer. He never recovered from that and was ultimately outshined by UDFA signing Darius Cooper, who made the roster over him. Marshall’s lack of special teams experience doesn’t do him any favors in terms of being a depth player. The Eagles are reportedly expected to sign wide receiver Javon Baker to the practice squad, though that move wasn’t made official here.

Who should Eagles fans put their money on in 2025?

gettyimages-2230959656.jpg

Steve Maltepes, known as “The Philly Godfather,” will impart his gambling wisdom on the Eagles and where the smart money is going on various pro football games each weekend this season. Maltepes is one of the nation’s hottest sports betting experts who appears weekly on national radio and has his own website, www.thephillygodfather.com [thephillygodfather.com].

Much is expected of the Eagles in 2025. Talk of a dynasty and winning a consecutive Super Bowl is first and foremost on everyone’s mind. For those in the gambling realm, it’s second. What comes first is putting their money where their knowledge lies.

So, in talking to Steve Maltepes, known as “The Philly Godfather,” one of the country’s elite sports betting authorities and a native of the Philadelphia area, his heart still lies with the Eagles, but his money will be placed on the Buffalo Bills at plus-700 to win the Super Bowl.

“The Bills are going to be favored in every game they play this season, they have the least amount of travel of any team in the NFL this year, basically staying on the East Coast the whole season,” Maltepes said, “and the Eagles are still the best team in the NFC, and the best team in the NFC East, and will be favored in every game they play, except the game against Kansas City. The Packers, with Micah Parsons, will now be a strong factor, and could be favored later in the season, and the Packers overall in the NFC. Last year, the Eagles won six games by six points or less, and now they have a first-place schedule with a target in their backs.”

Maltepes still like the Eagles to be the first repeat winner of the NFC East since 2004, minus—130, since the Eagles won four-consecutive NFC East titles under Andy Reid, and they have a 56-percent probability of doing it. He maintains the Eagles still have the best offensive line in football, though what should be a concern is a defense that lost starting defensive tackle Milton Williams, defensive end Josh Sweat, cornerback Darius Slay, safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, and cornerback Isaiah Rodgers, and depth pieces in Brandon Graham and Oren Burks. Gardner-Johnson had six of the Eagle’s 13 interceptions last season, which accounted for 46-percent of the Eagles’ interceptions. Sweat, Williams, Gardner-Johnson, Rodgers, Burks and Graham combined to account for 46-percent of the Eagles’ sack rate and 23-percent of their tackle production last season.

That’s a lot to compensate for.

The Eagles’ defense will have to undergo some growing pains. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio pieced the defense together last season and will be counted on to do the same this year.

“It’s hard to repeat as Super Bowl champions and NFC East champions, but the good side is the Eagles are playing against a lot of weak defenses this year,” Maltepes said. “Look at Dallas, look at Chicago, look at Washington. The Eagles are the cream of the division and I expect them to win the division again. The over/under is 11.5 wins, and that will be a hard number to reach. The Eagles play nine teams expected to make the playoffs (Chiefs, Rams, Broncos, Commanders, Lions, Chargers, Packers, Bears and Bills) this year. Two of the Eagles’ first four games are on the road, the Rams come in looking for revenge over the playoff loss last season, with Tampa Bay and Kansas City on the road, and Denver improved as the season went on last year.”

Take the under 11.5 for total wins for the Eagles this season, Maltepes suggests, and stresses the Commanders with Jayden Daniels are for real. Daniels masks a lot of Washington’s deficiencies.

In the NFC, he likes the Lions at plus-1,000 in the NFC, and the Bears as a good long shot at 42-to-1.

Eagles season props

Jalen Hurts over 8.5 INTs

Jalen Hurts over 3,155 passing yards minus-110

Eagles to score one offensive touchdown in every game minus-160

Buffalo Bills over 11.5 wins minus-110

Buffalo Bills to win AFC East minus-240

Los Angeles Ram to make the playoffs minus-160

Los Angeles Chargers to make the playoffs minus-130

Chicago Bears to make the playoffs plus-180

Eagles News: “The Cowboys have the shakiest defense in the league”

imagn-21829040.jpg

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

2025 NFL projections, power rankings, Super Bowl predictions – ESPN
Projected defenses to allow the most points: Dallas Cowboys, 439 points. The Cowboys allowed the second-most points last season, and that was with Micah Parsons for 13 games. Parsons was traded to Green Bay on Thursday for defensive tackle Kenny Clark and two first-round picks. Linebacker Eric Kendricks, nickel corner Jourdan Lewis and edge rusher Chauncey Golston are also gone. Sprinkle in a few lingering injuries (including top linebacker DeMarvion Overshown), and the Cowboys have the shakiest defense in the league. Facing the Eagles and Commanders twice will only boost their points allowed.

Who should Eagles fans put their money on in 2025? – BGN

Running back handcuff tiers for 2025 fantasy football – SB Nation
Will Shipley, Philadelphia Eagles: Shipley turned some heads during training camp and he is expected to serve as the backup running back for the reigning Super Bowl champions this season. The Clemson product had very limited playing time as a rookie last season and that’s understandable given his spot on the depth chart and Saquon Barkley’s workload. Given that Barkley registered over 480 touches between the regular season and the playoffs combined last year, the team will most likely alleviate some of that burden by giving extra touches to Shipley. And if the reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year were to go down with an injury, the second-year back suddenly becomes a top handcuff for fantasy managers.

Eagles mailbag: Can the 2025 team be better than the 2024 Super Bowl team? – PhillyVoice
Question from @BigsWinz: Why would the Eagles let Darius Slay and Isaiah Rodgers go? Did they legit believe they had a starting CB2 in house already? Salary cap websites like OverTheCap are generally great resources for a lot of things, but they don’t adequately show the Eagles’ complex cap situation, which should really be viewed through a multiyear lens, as opposed to year-to-year. As such, it’s difficult to “show my work,” so to speak, but the short answer is… money. I can’t speak to whether or not they truly believed they had a starting CB2 in-house already. They were certainly hopeful. Obviously, Kelee Ringo had a disappointing summer and Adoree’ Jackson isn’t a player to get excited about. We’ll see soon enough what that all looks like, and if it’s not good then they have 12 draft picks in 2026 to use as trade chips to fix it.

Roob’s Eagles Observations: Why A.J. Brown will be a Hall of Famer one day – NBCSP
Gabe Hall was on the practice squad. So was Fred Johnson. Britain Covey, Brett Toth, Braden Mann and Ben VanSumeren as well. Jakorian Bennett? Was never on the Eagles’ practice squad, but Thomas Booker was, and he’s the guy the Eagles traded to the Raiders for Bennett. As the Eagles get ready for the Cowboys Thursday night, it’s fun to think about just how many guys on this Super Bowl-caliber roster came up through the ranks of the practice squad. Nobody makes better use of the practice squad than the Eagles, who have been known to stash veterans on there (41-year-old Josh McCown, future Hall of Fame Julio Jones, 30-year-old slot corner Parry Nickerson this year) but mostly use it to help develop young players. The Eagles have an elaborate developmental program, with young guys getting extra reps as a group after practice, and it pays off. Not every player is ready as a rookie. There’s nothing wrong with not playing as a rookie or in Year 2. Every player has his own path, and sometimes it takes a while to figure things out, and the practice squad is the perfect place to do that. Some teams just give up on guys who don’t flash right away. The Eagles have the patience and the staff to develop raw talent. That’s why you see so many of their late-round draft picks turn into starters. Hall, the undrafted interior defensive lineman, is the perfect example of that. He was overmatched last year as an undrafted rookie out of Baylor, but he had this red-shirt year on the practice squad working with defensive tackle coach Clint Hurtt, sitting in meetings with Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter, practicing every day with a Super Bowl team and even getting a ring. A year later, he made the 53 and looks ready to contribute. Some practice squad guys just disappear after a few weeks, never to be heard from again. Has anybody heard from Ross Pierschbacher lately? The Eagles had 41 different guys on the practice squad in 2024, which might be some kind of record. But when it pays off, it can pay off in a big way. It’s hard enough finding talented players. It’s even harder developing them. The Eagles are very good at both.

2025 NFL playoff predictions: Picks for 8 division winners, 6 wild cards – NFL.com
NFC EAST: PHILADELPHIA EAGLES. The NFC East’s decades-long streak without a repeat winner is officially on notice. The reigning division and league champs are forecasted to retain at least one of those crowns this season, garnering 93% of the first-place votes in their group — and our analysts expect their dominance once again to extend beyond just the East, with the Eagles being the lone NFC team to appear on all 29 ballots. That said, don’t sleep on the Commanders, who ranked third in wild-card confidence one year after a 12-win campaign earned them the conference’s No. 6 seed.

Jerry Jones’ trade of Micah Parsons feels like a power play – Blogging The Boys
Two different players, with two different players personality, resulting in wildly different outcomes. Jones has to understand that the days of old aren’t the way things are done anymore and a handshake deal or number written on the back of a dinner napkin is made for TV like his Netflix special. Ultimately, Jones drew a hard line in the sand, asking Parsons to play under the fifth-year option or go elsewhere and Parsons obliged. A star player on a Hall-of-Fame-like trajectory is now elsewhere because Jones couldn’t get with the times. Old habits die hard.

Survey results: Giants fans are optimistic entering the season – Big Blue View
Summer is the time for optimism in the NFL. Teams have gone through free agency and the draft, acquiring the talent they hope will take them to the next level, or help them remain competitive if they’re already on top. For some teams, training camp and preseason saw those hopes dashed and expectations come crashing back to Earth. For fans of the New York Giants, however, the optimism that’s permeated the franchise since the spring has remained unabated. In fact, the optimism seems to have grown over the past month, and now a full 85% of the Big Blue View community say that they’re at least “cautiously optimistic.”

Eagles injury news: Positive updates on Landon Dickerson and Andrew Mukuba

imagn-19794265.jpg

The Philadelphia Eagles won’t issue their first official Week 1 injury report until Monday afternoon but there were multiple updates to be gleaned from the media-attended portion of Sunday’s practice. Let’s sort through the news on a player-by-player basis.

LANDON DICKERSON

Dickerson returned to practice on Wednesday, which already seemed like a good sign for his chances of starting against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1.

Now there are even more positive updates on the starting left guard’s status:

Landon Dickerson (knee) looks full go. #Eagles LG trending toward playing in the opener despite surgery several weeks ago. pic.twitter.com/JGUVVORiTN

— Jeff McLane (@Jeff_McLane) August 31, 2025
Not only is Landon Dickerson (knee) practicing today but he’s participating in FG unit too. Compression sleeve on right leg.

— Dave Zangaro (@DZangaroNBCS) August 31, 2025

There was some fear that the Eagles lost Dickerson for the season when he carted off with a knee injury back on August 10. Now it looks like he won’t even miss a game.

Of course, it remains to be seen if Dickerson’s performance will be hampered and/or he’ll struggle to stay on the field. But having a less than 100% Dickerson beats the scenario where he can’t play at all.

ANDREW MUKUBA

For the first time since suffering a hamstring injury on August 19, Mukuba returned to practice.

It’s not yet clear if Mukuba was a full participant. It’s quite possible the Eagles are easing the rookie back in.

If healthy, Mukuba might start at safety in Week 1. At least, it looked like he was on track to do so prior to getting hurt.

It’s possible Sydney Brown gets the nod instead. But even if Mukuba isn’t starting against the Cowboys, it’s entirely possible — if not outright likely — that he overtakes Brown at some point this season.

TANNER MCKEE

McKee was not a full participant in Sunday’s practice. It’s looking like he won’t be ready to back up Jalen Hurts in Week 1.

Assuming that’s the case, Sam Howell will be QB2 on Thursday night. The Eagles obviously hope he doesn’t have to play (unless the Birds beat the Cowboys so badly that Philly pulls their starters) but he’s an experienced option if called upon.

Not to get too in the weeds on the Eagles’ third quarterback situation … but, actually, to do exactly that … it’s not yet clear how the team will handle that scenario. The Eagles could just ride with Hurts and Howell as their top two with an undetermined position player moonlighting at QB if that unlikely disaster scenario unfolds. Otherwise, they could temporarily elevate Kyle McCord from the practice squad and keep him active to be QB3. McCord is not eligible to play under the emergency third quarterback rule if the Eagles temporarily elevate him and then mark him inactive on game day.

The other problem with temporarily elevating McCord is that it limits the Eagles to just one other temporary elevation when it currently looks like they could use two (Marcus Epps and Britain Covey).

Eagles Injury Report: Landon Dickerson misses practice but still might start against Cowboys

gettyimages-2194511276.jpg

The Philadelphia Eagles issued their first official injury report on Monday in advance of their Week 1 game against the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night.

The Eagles listed two players under DID NOT PARTICIPATE: Landon Dickerson and Tanner McKee.

Dickerson returned to practice last week
after originally suffering a knee injury on August 10. He also participated in Sunday’s practice. It was curious, then, to learn of his absence on Monday. Brett Toth was seen taking first-team left guard reps in Dickerson’s stead. After practice, it was revealed that Dickerson is now listed with a back injury … with no mention of his knee injury. Despite this unexpected development, it sounds like Dickerson still has a chance of starting against the Cowboys.

Despite Landon Dickerson not practicing today, it doesn’t mean he won’t play on Thursday night, from my understanding. In fact, still believe there’s a greater chance he plays than not. https://t.co/KVXm2dxLIl

— Jeff McLane (@Jeff_McLane) September 1, 2025

McKee is dealing with a fractured thumb that will likely cause him to miss Week 1. In his absence, Sam Howell will be the top backup quarterback behind Jalen Hurts. It remains to be seen how the Eagles will handle the emergency third quarterback role; temporarily elevating Kyle McCord from the practice squad could be considered.

The Eagles listed two players under LIMITED PARTICIPATION: Andrew Mukuba and Joshua Uche.

Mukuba returned to practice on Sunday after previously missing time due to a hamstring injury. He might not yet be ready to play. Even if he is, it’s hard to envision him starting ahead of Sydney Brown in Week 1. But Mukuba could eventually take over for Brown.

Vic Fangio says Andrew Mukuba looks healthy and has done well this summer. The Eagles DC did acknowledge the two weeks of injuries were a "setback" but he also said Mukuba is ahead of where Cooper DeJean was at this time last year.

— Brandon Lee Gowton (@BrandonGowton) September 1, 2025

Uche picked up a groin injury late in training camp. He’s still not yet 100%, though he might be able to play. If he can’t, the Eagles will have four active edge rushers: Nolan Smith, Jaylx Hunt, Azeez Ojulari, and Ogbo Okoronkwo.

The Eagles listed one player under FULL PARTICIPATION: Jalen Carter.

Carter missed some time early in training camp due to a shoulder injury. He was then removed from the injury report once he returned to action but now he’s being listed again. He will play.

A.J. Brown was notably not listed on the injury report.

Brown returned to practice last week after missing a good portion of training camp due to a hamstring injury. He’s good to go.

DALLAS COWBOYS INJURY REPORT (MONDAY)

Cowboys starting cornerback Trevon Diggs and starting left tackle Tyler Guyton were notably fully participants on Monday.

Diggs might be able to suit up against the Eagles but it doesn’t sound like it’s a lock.

Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs says it’s a 75-80 percent chance of him playing Thursday night in Philadelphia

— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) September 1, 2025
Trevon Diggs said he did everything in practice today. He’s still unsure about the opener. However he said, “no later than week 4.”

— Calvin Watkins (@calvinwatkins) August 31, 2025

The Cowboys really need Diggs to play because they’re very thin at corner behind him.

Guyton playing for Dallas is a big win for them since it originally looked like he went down with a season-ending injury. But Guyton struggled as a rookie and then missed most of training camp this summer, which might’ve hindered his development.

Backup defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey seems unlikely to play.

NFL Week 1 odds: Eagles favored to beat Cowboys

imagn-25080213.jpg

The last Sunday without NFL football until February is now behind us.

Week 1 is here!

And for the Philadelphia Eagles, that means they’re in the bright spotlight of the NFL Kickoff Game after winning a second Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Their opponent: the dastardly Dallas Cowboys.

The team with the longest streak of failing to merely appear in the NFC Championship Game will bear witness to the Eagles raising their Super Bowl LIX banner at Lincoln Financial Field on Thursday evening.

The Birds are currently entering this NFC East rivalry matchup as 7.5 -point home favorites, according to FanDuel.

That’s just slightly more than the Kenny Pickett-led Eagles were favored (-7) against the Cooper Rush-led Cowboys in Week 17 last season.

Unlike in that game, Dallas will have Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb available for them this time. As such, the Cowboys’ offense figures to provide much more of a challenge. In addition to dealing with that duo, the Eagles also now have to account for offseason trade acquisition George Pickens. Philly’s shaky CB2 situation will be put to the test.

Of course, it remains to be seen if the Cowboys can properly protect Prescott. There are multiple question marks on their offensive line and the Eagles have some promising young defensive linemen who could be poised to take advantage.

When it comes to the Cowboys’ pass rush, they have an elite edge defender by the name of Micah Parsons. Just kidding. Dallas unwisely decided to trade the best player on their team to the Green Bay Packers for a relatively meager return. Looking at the Cowboys’ updated depth chart, there just aren’t players who should strike fear into the Eagles (via Ourlads):

The Cowboys are apparently banking on Kenny Clark, who turns 30 in October, being able to help them stop the run. Yeah, I’m sure that’s the key to slowing down Saquon Barkley.

Cornerbacks Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland have logged top-notch ball production in the past but the former seems unlikely to suit up on Thursday and the latter is coming off a down year. The Cowboys could find themselves pretty thin at corner, where they’re already dealing with a number of injuries.

The 2025 Eagles will tell you themselves they’re not the 2024 Eagles. It’s a new season. But it’s hard not to feel good about the Birds in this moment.

The Eagles don’t regularly beat Prescott with ease, so, taking the points could be tempting. But, what are you, a coward? I’m leaning Eagles at -7.5.

What say you?
