News Dolphins Team Notes

Phinsider Question Of The Day: What Are You Looking For Edition

After another long offseason for the NFL and NCAA football, our Miami Dolphins will finally have live football again for the first time since early January. While this is not a game that counts toward the official season, it remains important for the coaching staff as they make decisions about the final roster for September. But what about you, the fan? I have to assume that most people who visit The Phinsider to stay updated on the latest Dolphins news and engage in discussions with fellow Phins fans are “rabid fans.” As rabid fans, most of us don’t miss a single game all year, including the preseason. While the coaches use the preseason to help prepare players for the upcoming season, they also use it as a tool to decide on what the final roster will look like come September. As fans, we’re primarily interested in observing how a veteran player has developed their game from season to season, how a player returning from injury performs, and of course, how the new additions—such as free agent signings and draft picks—perform against NFL-level talent and maybe most of all just to watch some real football action again. But what about you?

This evening’s Phinsider Question Of The Day is:

What are you most looking forward to or hoping to observe in the Miami Dolphins’ preseason game against the Chicago Bears this coming Sunday? Are there specific players you want to watch, and if so, why? What aspects of their performance will you be focusing on, and why?

Please share your thoughts and answers in the comments section below-

8/7/25 UPDATE: Miami Dolphins Orange Jersey Award TRACKER; Let’s get caught up!

gettyimages-2194970528.jpg

While we migrated to our new site design (which caused a slight delay in the updating of this tracker), the Miami Dolphins continued training camp in Miami Gardens, Florida. As is customary in the Mike McDaniel regime, each day at practice, a new player is awarded the orange jersey given to the team’s best practice player from the previous session.

During our brief hiatus, two players were honored with the brightly colored threads.

Who were those players?

During the team’s 11th training camp practice, the newest long-term signee for the Dolphins, defensive tackle Zach Sieler was designated as the team’s orange jersey recipient. Miami inked Sieler to a new contract this week, making him the highest paid defensive player on the team — and then immediately gave him the orange jersey and the aux cable (which he used to play a whole bunch of country music)!

Following Sieler’s award, it was an offensive player’s turn to receive the award — second year wide receiver Malik Washington wore orange for the team’s 12th training camp practice! Washington is battling newcomer Nick Westbrook-Ikhine for the Dolphins’ third wideout spot, however most believe that both Washington and NWI will be used in specific pass catching roles in 2025.

Now that we’re officially caught up, continue to keep your eyes on The Phinsider for all of your Miami Dolphins training camp news as the team prepares to play the Chicago Bears in their first preseason contest this Sunday!

Dolphins going on a road trip -The Splash Zone 8/8/25

gettyimages-2228090288.jpg

new_splash_zone.jpg

The Miami Dolphins have embarked on a nice road trip as they head north to prepare for a joint practice with the Chicago Bears today. The two teams will then meet again on Sunday when they play their first preseason game. When that concludes, the team will then pack up again and make another trip to meet up with the Detroit Lions for some joint practices before another preseason game. Then it’s back to Miami to finish up the preseason against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The little road trip should be a nice team bonding experience as the Dolphins try to change their locker culture.

You can check out that story here, and the rest of the day’s round-up below.

Dolphins vs Bears Preseason 2025: How to watch, odds, and more

gettyimages-1439598692.jpg

The Miami Dolphins kick off their 2025 preseason on Sunday as they visit the Chicago Bears. The two teams held a joint practice on Friday, but now meet in the first of three tune-up games for each club. Miami stays in the NFC North with next week’s game at the Detroit Lions before they host the Jacksonville Jaguars to round-out the preseason and prepare for the regular season.

The first preseason game will largely feature the depth players for both teams, with coaches getting a good look at players hoping to make an impression and claim a roster spot. The Dolphins have not indicated if they will play their starters, though some teams have been giving the top of the depth chart a series or two to start the game.

Miami Dolphins @ Chicago Bears Preseason Week 1: Live Thread & Game Information

gettyimages-1247665904.jpg

Our Miami Dolphins will begin their preseason this afternoon when they take on the Chicago Bears in Chicago. Miami traveled to Chicago early so the two teams could have a joint practice on Friday. Following this afternoon’s game, Miami will travel to Detroit, Michigan, to take on the Detroit Lions. The Dolphins then finish up their preseason schedule a week later with a home game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

I do not expect to see the majority of the Dolphins’ veterans, at least the ones that you would assume are locks for the final roster, in this evening’s game. The first preseason game is generally used by the coaching staff to view and evaluate rookies and those just hoping to earn a spot on the final 53-man roster in a real game setting. Some teams do run their starters out for one or two series just so they can knock the rust off heading into the rest of camp. The Dolphins coaching staff has not indicated if any starters will play in this afternoon’s game.

Please use this thread to follow this afternoon’s game between the Chicago Bears and our Miami Dolphins. Please follow all site rules in the live threads and other posts on The Phinsider. FOWLER: Several teams monitoring Tyreek Hill’s future in Miami

gettyimages-2229422611.jpg

All offseason long, the talk surrounding the Miami Dolphins has revolved around Tyreek Hill’s late-season outburst and his relationship with head coach Mike McDaniel and his teammates. Even as he sat out Sunday’s 24-24 tie with the Chicago Bears, rumors were swirling surrounding Miami’s speedy playmaker and his future with the Dolphins.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, several teams are monitoring Hill’s situation in Miami, with many wondering whether or not he could become available before the NFL trade deadline in November. Here’s what Fowler said on SportsCenter Sunday afternoon.

“His status is uncertain, with an oblique injury right now, as for when he gets back in the lineup, is still up in the air…Right now, I have talked to a few teams that are at least monitoring his future a little bit. Could he be a potential trade target?

Fowler continued:

“I know the Dolphins earlier this summer were telling teams, no, we’re not trading Tyreek Hill, but they just wonder if he’s going to be available? It could be wishful thinking. Maybe they want him to be available, but he’s a player that when I bring up the teams and say, who’s sort of a trade target you’re watching? They bring up Tyreek Hill…He’s a big option for Tua, and that’d be a major move if they did move away from him.”

Since being traded to the Dolphins, Hill has appeared in 50 games with the team, catching 319 of 464 targets for 4,468 yards and 26 touchdowns. Last season was a down year compared to some of his previous seasons, but the film doesn’t lie — Hill remains one of the most dynamic players the sport has ever seen, and if McDaniel and the Dolphins’ ship starts to sink at any point this season, teams should come calling for the man they call Cheetah.

And if you’re Miami, you should be more than happy to pick up the phone and talk compensation. After all, the Dolphins are likely to move on from Hill after this season, when his cap hit increases significantly in 2026. According to Spotrac, his cap hit nearly doubles next season with a base salary of $30 million. The rest of his contract is filled with void years, and regardless of his fate in Miami, Hill is expected to be a free agent in 2027 at the age of 33 years old.

I already said what I’d do with Tyreek Hill, but for the Dolphins and Mike McDaniel, they need all the weapons they can get. That is, until the honeymoon is over, and we’re right back to where we were in Week 18, when Hill shouted those very words that started it all, “I’m out!”

Should the Miami Dolphins trade Tyreek Hill? What type of trade value do you think he has with such a huge cap hit in 2026? How confident are you in the rest of Miami’s receiving corps? Let us know in the comments section below!

Your Miami Dolphins @ Chicago Bears Thoughts

gettyimages-2229423214.jpg

Following yesterday afternoon’s game between our Miami Dolphins and the Chicago Bears, I asked the following questions:

Did you see what you were looking for or hoping to see from the Miami Dolphins in this afternoon’s game? Where were the improvements and or regressions by the Dolphins that you saw in today’s game? What, if anything, about today’s game and what you saw disappointed you? What did you see in today’s game that you were happy to see or pleasantly surprised to see? In general, did you come away from this game feeling better or worse about the 2025 version of your Miami Dolphins?

Below are your thoughts and answers-

Dolphinsfan2021 does not seem to have confidence in any of it. I guess it’s not unexpected for some longtime fans.

Dolphins success this year will be decided based on the OL giving this group of mediocre to bad QBs time to throw the ball. Didn’t like what I saw so far. QB position has been an issue for decades and not realistically going to be that great this year. Tua will hit his short timing throws but that’s about it. Backups well one is the lowest paid backup in the NFL for a reason and the other is an almost not drafted QB in a bad QB class. I know defense was playing easier coverages but still too many wide open WRs. This secondary may be one of the worst ever in the history of the NFL. Time for Grier to resign, cant put together a championship team and they are many years away from it. 25 years now no playoff win?

JUK was overall pretty happy, but it reminded them that Tua’s health is the only path to a high level of success.

Overall I was pretty happy. I think it’s fair to say a 24-24 tie with the officiating we got was pretty respectable. The biggest things for me were:

The commitment to running the ball in goal line. Yeah the first one failed (although wright looked in) but they got 3 more in, and I loved that they kept calling them. We didn’t have our best receivers and didn’t try to fool the defense but just kept getting the reps. Ll

The backup receivers (not the backups backups). Really pleased with NWI and both the Washingtons, and Eskridge looked good too. Let’s not worry too much about how our WR 10 looks with a raw Quinn Ewers.

The D overall was pretty good. A couple of BS penalties extended drives, but we didn’t see the CBs get burned much and the front 7 was good especially in the first half when the ones were out there

Not something we learnt, but just a reminder our season will depend on how Tua goes and everyone pumping up Ewers needs to be realistic. I like Ewers, think he was a great pick in 7th but the issues in college were there again today. If we get a QB2 by next season with 3 years on a rookie deal that’s a good outcome, anything more is gravy

dedstrk likes what they saw, including an apparent improvement with kick returns as well as special teams overall.

I saw major improvements in the return game and special teams in general looked a lot better. I liked the tackling I saw. I loved Mattison and Ollie. Mattison looked like RB2 until he got hurt and Ollie was looking like RB3 with Wright falling down the pecking order. Tua was sharp but can’t tell much against second stringers and not having Hill and Waddle.

phinsatl is pleased with what they saw from special teams, but has some concerns about the offensive line depth.

Got to see some of the backup receivers and running backs get some good looks (probably some bad too). The backup OL still looks worrisome, but I saw Carman on the field so I’m not sure how much stock to put into it. Starting D looked pretty good for not really being the starting D. Special teams gets a wow! Wasn’t even expecting that level of play. It’s a preseason game though, so you never know what is real or not. It’s just extra reps and teaching tape.

DalFinsFan has a list of concerns and wants a clear upgrade at TE.

An OL lined up offsides should be on the OC, not the head coach. The problem on the goal line is you cannot run TT on a sneak, so defenses have time to overcome the initial OL surge. Also looked like JW was too far behind the QB on some of those plays. Tahj W made the team, OG3 looks like a steal, TE position is dreadful so looks like TConner finally going to make the roster because why not.

PGPhinsFan was pleased with a lot of what they saw, but like a lot of us, they still have concerns about the OL depth and the secondary overall.

I liked what I saw from Ollie Gordon. No way he doesn’t start moving up the depth chart after that game. I loved how Ewers came out after the turnover and orchestrated a TD drive, great to see some grit from a young player, but the turnover cost the Fins the game. The O-line had some bad moments, but were able to punch it in with the run game 3 times which was nice to see. I thought Zach showed that he has a strong arm. He had some throws today that shows why some people liked him out of college. He did take two sacks that could have been avoided, and almost threw a pick 6, but led the team down for 2 TD drives which is better than he did with the Jets in a whole game. All and all it was a good step, but the O-line and the secondary still worry me.

Dolphster isn’t alarmed based on one game but has jumped on the “I’m concerned about the OL” bandwagon.

Obviously, yesterday wasn’t anything to draw any conclusions from, but I was hoping that the OL depth was going to be a better quality group this year. The backups certainly seemed to struggle yesterday. But again, one preseason game isn’t anything to be alarmed about.

ezdz73 was overall happy with what they saw, but would like to see all the starters get some time together during the preseason.

Well it’s preseason, so you won’t know a whole lot until the games matter. But I liked ST. Hopefully the new coach will drastically change what Crossman couldn’t do. Ollie G and Mattison looked good! Both are bigger backs, something that this team needs, as they have to get better in short yardage plays. Hopefully, Mattison is okay. I’m not a huge fan of the timing offense, as defenses have started jamming and slowing the wrs up to disrupt the timing. I’m hoping MM has a counter for this in year 4. Overall tackling seemed better by the D. I’d like to see all the starters get some playing time in game 2. With less contact drills during practice, players need to knock the rust off before the season starts.

TheRoo1 noticed what we all did about the NFL Network broadcast.

First comment, for those of us stuck with the nfl network broadcast, having the worst broadcast team in history spending all of Miami’s positive plays talking to Chicago players made knowing what fin caught a pass, made a run or a stop difficult. Those in the Florida area with local coverage I hope got a better broadcast.

As to the score, tying the worst team in Football is never a positive, although in preseason, the worst team often wins because they play their starters more. So what does that say for us now?

The best positive point I noticed was that Da Bores started with three and outs. Even with a hodge podge group for the secondary, they held them to three and outs.

Dolfanjoe wants the scouts to be paying attention, as we might have some needs not yet met.

Great scrimmage , hope everyone is in good health. Hope our scouts are everywhere watching the other teams that have players who might fit our needs. We got a taste !

As usual, there is no solid consensus in what we saw, but some popular themes continue to be concerns with offensive line depth, the secondary as a whole, and the backup quarterback. The one thing that several people seem happy with is the apparent improvement in special teams. As always, I appreciate everyone who joins in almost every night to comment and join in on the discussions on our POTD posts.

Alexander Mattison out for the season – The Splash Zone 8/12/25

gettyimages-2226661310.jpg

new_splash_zone.jpg

Through training camp, it appeared Alexander Mattison was the Miami Dolphins best short yardage back. Unfortunately, the team won’t be able to use him now as he underwent season ending neck surgery after being injured on Sunday against the Chicago Bears. Without Mattison, this give Ollie Gordon II the inside track to that short yardage role and he was able to show he was capable of doing that, and more, this past Sunday. The Dolphins did work out Jamaal Williams, but ended up signing Aaron Shampklin and Mike Boone.

You can check out that story here, and the rest of the day’s round-up below.

Dolphins You Believe Are Due A New Payday

gettyimages-2194708193.jpg

With Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Zach Sieler finally receiving the extension and raise that many fans believed he was due this past week, I asked the following question:

Who is currently on the Miami Dolphins roster that you believe needs/deserves a new deal/extension sooner rather than later?

Below are some of your thougths and answers-

Dolfanjoe wants to see the team lock the LB up now.

Jordon Brooks , should be extended for at least 2 more years now !

glen55 is a maybe on Brooks and out on the rest for now.

I don’t think there’s anybody else, really, in Sieler’s situation: established star the team wants to keep with a contract coming due. Maybe Brooks?

SuperG! is in a wait-and-see pattern on Minkah.

We all saw that right after Minkah got his restructure his agent immediately said that was step 1 and step 2 is to get him an extension. I’ll see how I feel about that after the season is over because there’s no doubt he will be chirping for money next offseason.

sdphinsfan says wait and see what the rest do this season before throwing any money at any of them.

Right now…nobody. End of the season, we’ll see. Minkah has a good year…ok. Phillips stays healthy and does what he can do, interesting decision. Might want to start saving some $$ for Chop too, considering what the top Edge guys are getting.

tvegas897 is another in the wait-and-see camp.

Im gonna go out on a limb and say nobody. Let’s see how some players perform on the field….assuming they stay on the field!

Yarganaught might get his wish by the end of camp.

Cam Smith needs a new contract… $0/0years

cyberflea says Prove it first!

No one else as it is now. It’s time to prove it on the field. Phillips needs to show he can come back and play at a high level after some serious injuries and stay healthy.

StanleyDoyle1 wants a LB to stick around…

Quinton Bell.

JUK wants to lock up an LB and OL and wait for some others until after the season.

Brooks and brewer will both have one year left after this season, and played well above their deals on year 1. If they are maintaining their level this year I’d look at both.

Minkah and JP are both play this season then we will talk for different reasons. Achane will be a big call after this season too

phinette is in a wait-and-see from Phillips and is looking for an out-of-town ticket for Tua.

I am with everyone who says stay put and see how the year plays out. JP’s injury history is a problem. If he stays healthy and plays at the level we know he can then defensively pay the man. Anyone know how soon we can move on from Tua?

With a few exceptions, it seems as if most of the base prefers that the team sit pat for now and see who has what this season before making any more decisions on player extensions. As always, thank you to each of you who stops in each night to answer our question of the day and discuss the goings on of the day.

Chop Robinson carted off at joint practice between Dolphins-Lions

gettyimages-2194705572.jpg

The Miami Dolphins have been bitten by the injury bug along their defensive front over the past two seasons. After losing both Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb last year, coaches, players and fans are hoping to see a potentially fearsome Dolphins pass rush at full strength in 2025.

Well, on Wednesday at Miami’s joint practice with the Detroit Lions, another Dolphins pass rusher suffered an injury that halted the player’s practice, ultimately leading to that player being carted away from the session. That player was second-year EDGE stud, Chop Robinson.

According to those in attendance, Robinson’s injury occurred during a scrum for a loose football that was coughed up by a Lions offensive player and looks to be arm/shoulder related.

The former Penn State product had a slow start to his rookie campaign in 2024, however he turned it on during Miami’s final 10 games — tallying six sacks during that time. The team’s first round selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, Robinson has been discussed as a future All-Pro talent by plenty of NFL personalities during the offseason. He’ll need to stay healthy to realize his massive potential.

We will keep you updated on Chop Robinson’s injury status as more information becomes available.

Dolphins sign offensive lineman; place another on IR

On Thursday, ahead of Miami’s second joint practice with the Detroit Lions, the Dolphins signed offensive lineman Yodny Cajuste while placing fellow offensive lineman Germain Ifedi on the injured reserve list.

Ifedi was just signed to the Dolphins on August 3rd, but struggled mightily against the Chicago Bears in the team’s first preseason contest last Sunday. Today, we learned that he may have been dealing with an injury which could have been the cause for his poor performance.

Cajuste was drafted in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. Despite being with the club through the 2022 season, he played in just 17 games. After leaving New England, Cajuste signed with the New York Jets, but didn’t play a single game with the team after being injured that same offseason. He was released and signed with the New York Giants’ practice squad during the 2023 season, but never saw game action. Cajuste was once again injured the following offseason, which caused him to miss the entirety of the 2024 season.

We will continue to keep you updated with all things Miami Dolphins as the team prepares for their second preseason contest, this time against the Detroit Lions on Saturday.

Phinsider Question Of The Day: What You Will Be Looking For Game Two Edition

Our Miami Dolphins have played one preseason game, which received mixed reviews from the media and fans. There were positives, but it seems there were many more negatives. The Miami Dolphins and Detroit Lions got together for another joint practice and from the sounds of it, the Dolphins had a pretty good day compared to the first day. On Wednesday, the sky was falling as reports out of practice were that the Dolphins looked absolutely terrible. After being dominated in the first practice, it is nice to hear the players did not like the performance and came out to compete yesterday. The Dolphins and Lions will meet tomorrow to play in their preseason matchup.

The Miami Dolphins will play their second preseason game today as they take on the Detroit Lions. Mike McDaniel said a couple of days ago that the starters would not be playing in this one, so expect to see the second and third team guys get a ton of playing time. A lot of eyes will be on the quarterbacks as Zach Wilson and Quinn Ewers as both need to show they are capable backups behind Tua Tagovailoa. They both had a rough start in their first preseason action and now they’ll get another chance to put some better tape out on the field.
