The headliner of the week in the National League West was the Dodgers sweeping the Padres at Dodger Stadium in the first of two straight weekend meetings between the division’s top two teams.
But also of note were the Rockies having the best record in the division for the last seven days, going 5-2 against the Cardinals in St. Louis and the Diamondbacks at home. Colorado won five of its last six games, and won two series in a row for just the second time this season.
The Rockies winning three of four games over the weekend over Arizona was Colorado’s first series win against an NL West team in 2025, which Evan Lang at Purple Row highlighted on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Giants lost seven straight games before snapping that skid with a win over the Rays on Sunday. The Giants are 8-21 in their last 29 games, with two six-game losing streaks to go with their seven-game losing streak.
Things are going so bad in San Francisco that Bryan Murphy at McCovey Chronicles wondered whether the Giants should release pending free agents Justin Verlander and/or Wilmer Flores before the end of August so they could latch onto another team headed for the postseason.
