Cubs Are Reportedly ‘Actively Involved’ In Alex Bregman Discussions

The Chicago Cubs missed the postseason for a fourth straight season after finishing with a record of 83-79 and tied for second in the National League Central.

Since winning the World Series in 2016, the Cubs have appeared in the playoffs three times with two of those appearances ending in losses in the wild-card series.

The Cubs have made multiple acquisitions this offseason, with their biggest being the addition of outfielder Kyle Tucker in a trade with the Houston Astros.

While already getting one of the Astros’ best players is significant, one MLB analyst recently revealed that the Cubs reportedly are involved in discussions with Houston third baseman Alex Bregman.

“There are reports that the Cubs are quote ‘still actively involved’ in the pursuit of the free agent third baseman,” Robert Flores said, via MLB Network.

— MLB Network (@MLBNetwork) February 3, 2025

With spring training right around the corner, the belief is that Bregman will get a front-loaded contract with the option to opt out after the 2025 season.

He has played all nine seasons of his MLB career with the Astros.

In 2024, Bregman played in 145 games and batted .260 with 26 home runs, 75 RBIs and a .768 OPS.

The projected lineup for the Cubs, if they were to acquire Bregman, has him batting behind his former teammate Tucker.

As one of the top free agents yet to sign, Bregman will be a name to watch as spring training gets closer.

Cubs Have Had Trade Talks With Padres About Veteran Pitcher

Since winning the World Series in 2016, the Chicago Cubs have made three playoff appearances, but two have resulted in being swept in the wild-card round.

The Cubs missed the postseason for a fourth straight year in 2024 after finishing with a record of 83-79 and second in the National League Central.

Coming off a few down years in a row, the Cubs went into the offseason with an aggressive touch as they have added multiple players.

The big acquisition included trading for outfielder Kyle Tucker from the Houston Astros.

MLB analyst Jon Morosi recently reported the Cubs are having trade talks with the San Diego Padres about another star player.

“The Cubs have spoken with the Padres about a Dylan Cease trade, per Jon Morosi,” B/R Walk-Off wrote on X.

— B/R Walk-Off (@BRWalkoff) January 30, 2025

Cease has been involved in trade rumors as of late, and the Cubs are the newest team to reportedly be involved in trying to acquire the starting pitcher.

The right-hander played five seasons for the White Sox before going to the Padres in 2024.

Last season, Cease started 33 games and was 14-11 with a 3.47 ERA and 224 strikeouts in 189.1 innings pitched.

Cease tied his career highs in games started and wins and was three strikeouts short of his top mark.

The Cubs could be a team to watch in 2025 if they can pull off a deal to acquire Cease.

Jameson Taillon Provides Honest Thoughts On Facing Dodgers

The Chicago Cubs missed the postseason for a fourth straight season after finishing with a record of 83-79 and second in the National League Central in 2024.

This offseason, they have made some notable transactions to improve their roster for 2025.

The biggest acquisition came in a trade with the Houston Astros when they added outfielder Kyle Tucker.

While the Cubs look to break their streak of missing the playoffs, their first game of the season will put them to the test.

Cubs starting pitcher Jameson Taillon revealed his honest thoughts on facing the Los Angeles Dodgers in Japan to open the 2025 season.

“I mean it’s a pretty sweet roster they got over there, there’s no doubt,” Taillon said, via Foul Territory.

— Foul Territory (@FoulTerritoryTV) January 21, 2025

The star power of the Dodgers does not go unnoticed by other players as Taillon acknowledged how good their team is.

Taillon debuted in 2016 with the Pittsburgh Pirates and has played the past two seasons for the Cubs.

While Taillon notes how good the Dodgers look, he also states that any team can be beaten if the opposing team shows up to play.

The Dodgers will likely win a ton of games in 2025, but they will also lose a handful, and Taillon appears ready for the task when the Cubs take them on in Japan.

Analyst Makes Bold Prediction About Cubs’ Outfield This Season

The Chicago Cubs missed the postseason for the fourth straight year after finishing with a record of 83-79 and coming in second place in the National League Central.

After winning the World Series in 2016, the Cubs made the National League Championship Series in 2017, but then they have failed to advance past the wild-card round since.

The Cubs have acquired a few notable players this offseason to help improve their roster for the 2025 season.

One of those players is superstar outfielder Kyle Tucker who was acquired via trade from the Houston Astros.

With Tucker joining the outfield corps, MLB Analyst Tom Verducci made a bold prediction about how good the Cubs’ outfield will be in 2025.

“That outfield is one of the best in Major League Baseball,” Verducci said via MLB Network on ‘X.’

— MLB Network (@MLBNetwork) January 20, 2025

Tucker is a 28-year-old outfielder who came into the league in 2018 with the Astros and has played all seven seasons of his MLB career with the team before coming to the Cubs.

In 2024, Tucker only played in 78 games due to injuries, but he batted .289 with 23 home runs, 49 RBIs, and a .993 OPS.

While Tucker gives the Cubs a boost offensively, Verducci mentions his defensive ability and how good the Cubs’ outfield as a whole will be defensively in 2025.

Both Tucker in right field and Ian Happ in left field have won Gold Glove Awards in their careers, and center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong will likely be a Gold Glove winner soon.

The Cubs have a below-average strikeout rate as a pitching staff, so having a solid defensive outfield will greatly benefit the team next season.

The Chicago Cubs missed the postseason for the fourth straight season after finishing with a record of 83-79 and finishing in second place in the National League Central.

Since winning the World Series in 2016, the Cubs have only advanced past the wild-card series in the postseason once, and they haven’t appeared in the playoffs since 2020.

The Cubs could turn things around in 2025 as they have had a busy offseason and acquired some key pieces to their roster including trading for star outfielder Kyle Tucker from the Houston Astros.

Although the Cubs lost Cody Bellinger to the Dodgers, MLB Analyst Keith Costas made a bold prediction for the Cubs in 2025.

“The Chicago Cubs will win a postseason game for the first time since 2017,” Costas said via MLB Network on ‘X.’
Bold prediction for the Cubs next season?

Keith Costas sees Chicago winning a Postseason game.#MLBNHotStove pic.twitter.com/8v3si68sSK

— MLB Network (@MLBNetwork) January 12, 2025

Costas mentions the Cubs winning their first postseason game since 2017 even though the Cubs made the postseason in both the 2018 and 2020 seasons.

The Cubs were swept in a single wild-card game in 2018 and swept 2-0 in a wild-card series in 2020.

Another note Costas noted was that the NL Central should be wide open in 2025, and he believes the Cubs could take the division title for the first time since 2020.

If the Cubs do make a run in 2025 for a division title and a playoff victory, it will likely be on the back of their new superstar outfielder Tucker.

In 2024 with the Astros, Tucker only played in 78 games, but he batted .289 with 23 home runs, 49 RBIs, and a .993 OPS.

The Cubs could be a sneaky contender in 2025 and will be a team to watch.

Cubs Are Showing Interest In Free Agent Infielder

The Chicago Cubs missed the postseason for the fourth straight season after finishing with a record of 83-79, which was good enough for a second-place finish in the National League Central.

After winning the World Series in 2016, the Cubs have only advanced past the wild-card round once.

The Cubs entered the offseason with the goal of adding talent to their roster so they could challenge for a division title in 2025.

With the addition of Kyle Tucker from the Houston Astros, the Cubs are off to a good start this offseason, and they have their eye on another free-agent infielder.

According to MLB Insider Mark Feinsand on ‘X,’ the Cubs are among the teams showing interest in infielder Josh Rojas from the Seattle Mariners.

The Cubs are among the teams showing serious interest in INF Josh Rojas, per source. Rojas had a 2.2 bWAR in 142 games for the Mariners last season, starting 106 games at 3B. He has started mostly at 2B and 3B during his career, but can also play SS and both corner OF spots.

— Mark Feinsand (@Feinsand) December 30, 2024

Rojas came into the league in 2019 with the Arizona Diamondbacks where he played until going to the Mariners in 2023.

In 2024 with the Mariners, Rojas played in 142 games where he batted .225 with eight home runs, 31 RBIs, and a .641 OPS.

Feinsand notes the multiple positions that Rojas can play including second base, third base, shortstop, and both corner outfield positions.

The versatility of Rojas could be a major asset for the Cubs if they decide to pull the trigger on signing him this offseason.

While his offensive numbers don’t jump off the page, the utility defensive skills make Rojas noteworthy.

The Cubs hope to win their first NL Central title since 2020 and get the team over the hump and back into the postseason.

Rojas will be a name to keep an eye on as the offseason progresses for the Cubs.

Analyst Believes Cubs Will Make One More Big Move This Offseason

View of the Chicago Cubs logo during a game against the San Diego Padres at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois. The Cubs won the game 5-

Mandatory Credit: Jonathan Daniel /Allsport

The Chicago Cubs made a splash when they acquired outfielder Kyle Tucker in a trade with the Houston Astros, marking their first big move of the offseason and injecting some life into a franchise that desperately needed it.

One analyst doesn’t think the Cubs are stopping with the Tucker acquisition, as he believes they will make another big move to deal with an outfield logjam before the offseason is said and done.

“Perhaps this now means that Cody Bellinger is on his way elsewhere. Elsewhere could eventually be New York,” Jon Morosi said, via MLB Network.
.@jonmorosi recaps a busy day with two big trades and a new wrinkle in the market for Alex Bregman. #MLBTonight pic.twitter.com/aEFmXfIaeK

— MLB Network (@MLBNetwork) December 14, 2024

Morosi said that the Tucker trade reannounces the Cubs’ return to the big leagues, so to speak, as the big-market franchise has been relatively quiet since winning the 2016 World Series.

Tucker’s presence makes it almost a certainty that Bellinger will be moved, with the New York Yankees a logical destination after losing out on retaining Juan Soto.

Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki has also come up in trade rumors, but he makes more sense as a fit alongside Tucker than Bellinger does.

Chicago still has plenty of money to spend as well, so it’s certainly possible the Cubs have another trick up their sleeves in the free-agent market.

Trading for Tucker is not the kind of move you make unless you are serious about contending, and it will be interesting to see what the Cubs do next to keep building upon this big splash.

Cubs Are Reportedly ‘Determined’ To Trade 2 Players

The Chicago Cubs missed the postseason for the fourth straight season in 2024 after finishing with a record of 83-79.

It was their second straight year finishing in second place in the National League Central with their last division title coming back in 2020.

The Cubs will be looking to make some changes to their roster this offseason as they prepare for the 2025 season to try and get back to the postseason.

MLB Insider Joel Sherman reports that the Cubs are determined to trade two players before the 2025 season.

According to B/R Walk-Off on ‘X,’ Sherman reports that the Cubs are determined to trade either Cody Bellinger or Seiya Suzuki.

The Cubs are 'determined' to trade either Seiya Suzuki or Cody Bellinger, per @Joelsherman1 pic.twitter.com/ISyQvKHZZX

— B/R Walk-Off (@BRWalkoff) December 6, 2024

Both of these players had productive seasons for the Cubs in 2024 so it is likely that other teams will be interested in them.

Bellinger played in 130 games where he batted .266 with 18 home runs, 78 RBIs, and a .751 OPS.

Suzuki played in 132 games where he batted .283 with 21 home runs, 73 RBIs, and a .848 OPS.

Bellinger is a former Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player award winner with the Los Angeles Dodgers while Suzuki has had three productive seasons with the Cubs after coming into the league in 2022.

The Cubs are looking to shake things up in 2025 after missing the playoffs for the last four years.

Both of these players could be targeted by teams once the top free agent Juan Soto makes his decision on where he will play in 2025.

The Cubs will look to improve in 2025 and get their club back to the playoffs in an attempt to win their fourth World Series title in franchise history.

Insider Says If 1 MLB Team Spends Money, They Can Be Special

Baseball is on green grass background

The Chicago Cubs missed the postseason for a fourth straight season in 2024 after finishing with a record of 83-79.

After winning the World Series in 2016, the Cubs have only made the postseason three times in the next eight seasons.

While the Cubs weigh their options this offseason before the 2025 season, one MLB Insider revealed his thoughts on the team.

MLB Insider Ken Rosenthal made a powerful statement regarding the Cubs’ management and their spending on the team.

“They have the ability, if they spend some money, to be a special team,” Rosenthal said.
The Cubs are fumbling an opportunity to seriously compete in the NL Central. pic.twitter.com/ATQ7NYHcC4

— Foul Territory (@FoulTerritoryTV) November 30, 2024

The Cubs have won three World Series titles in franchise history, but they have not won the National League Central since 2020, the last time they made the postseason.

Rosenthal says that the Cubs could be a special team in the National League if they spend some money in the offseason to improve their roster.

The free agent class is filled with talent this year, so the players are there if the organization decides to be aggressive in their spending.

With the emergency of Shota Imanaga in 2024, the Cubs got some help in their rotation, but they could use another solid starting pitcher at the very least.

Some of the big-name starting pitcher-free agents this offseason include Corbin Burnes, Max Fried, Roki Sasaki, and Jack Flaherty.

The Cubs will need some acquisitions this offseason if they want to contend with the Milwaukee Brewers who have won the NL Central three out of the last four seasons.

Cubs fans will have to wait and see if the organization decides to spend the money necessary to improve the roster.

Analyst Reveals What Areas Cubs Should Improve This Offseason

The Chicago Cubs are one of the only big market teams who don’t appear to be courting the prize of the free agent pool, superstar outfielder Juan Soto, but that doesn’t mean the team isn’t angling to make some significant improvements this offseason.

After a solid 83-79 season, the Cubs are on the way up, and one analyst recently revealed what areas the team should improve upon this offseason.

While speaking on ‘Hot Stove’ on MLB Network, former Cub Ryan Dempster liked the idea of signing a star, particularly at third base, with Alex Bregman mentioned as a possibility, while also mentioning the importance of spending money on the starting rotation.

Which areas should the Chicago Cubs look to improve the most this offseason?#MLBNHotStove pic.twitter.com/EUAgQhXdDu

— MLB Network (@MLBNetwork) November 23, 2024

Matt Vasgersian doesn’t see the Cubs spending big this offseason on Soto, Bregman, or anyone else and thinks the team will continue to grow organically and make improvements in-house.

The Cubs aren’t slated to get pillaged too hard in free agency this offseason, as their best players hitting the open market are Patrick Wisdom, Drew Smyly, Hector Neris, Adbert Alzolay, and Nick Madrigal, as well as Kyle Hendricks, who has already signed with the Los Angeles Angels.

The club acquired Isaac Paredes at the trade deadline this past season, so his presence does make a Bregman signing unlikely unless the team gets creative to accommodate him.

Cody Bellinger’s name has also surfaced in trade rumors, but it’s early in the offseason, and it’s unclear how legitimate those reports are.

It’s still unclear what the Cubs aim to do this offseason, but the hope is that they will aggressively build on their nice 2024 season.
