Has anyone tried cross country running? It's a great sport to get you fit quick. I've been doing it for years on and off. I've done a few tournaments with school in the past. I say it's fun for a while but when you get into the latter stage of a race you're just focusing on keeping going. My legs don't tire much and my chest gives in way before my legs do. So has anyone else tried cross country running?

I run cross-country for my high school. It is a fun sport, but I don't stay in shape during the off season, so the training right before the start of the season is awful for me. :P

On Tuesday I did my first large run in ages and I really struggled although I managed to keep in the top 5 out of the 30 or so of us. That is until I almost vomited because I'd been feeling ill. Then I just did a fast walk but due to the large gap I still came 7th.

What would you consider a large run? We do the basic 5k for our meets, but for training, we sometimes do 5-6 miles. It isn't fun. :P

I am not a fan of Cross Country but my cousin loves it. She does Cross Country for her school and I have been to 1 of her meets before and I really enjoyed it. She has earned several awards for it as well and I think it is a very interesting sport for those who enjoy it.

I run cross-country for my high school this was my second year as a sophomore. It has been a lot of fun and I met many upperclassmen that I've become friends with and I ran some varsity races this season. And next season I'm hoping to be a full time varsity runner as our team was full of seniors.

I have horrible stamina, so I wouldn't last very long in Cross Country.

My stamina is very good, however the longest I've ever done is only a 20km at a rather slow speed. Not sure what the exact time was. I usually run a 3km run or so. So my average isn't that long! I prefer it much more than track and field or quick sprints and all. Even if you have a bad start, you can still finish strong. Time is what you get in cross country, and I use it to my advantage.

Haha you should try.
It's a much better, and more enjoyable workout.
Lifting weights and all that can get boring, but running has a sense of freedom and enjoyment.
Plus, you can socialize well you do it and run in groups if you want. I myself am in numerous running clubs.

You should do it this year. I think you would do well. You're tall, and you're already an athlete because of basketball. Do you like running? :P

Yeah Ozzie you should try cross-country like Cmt and I. The main reason I like cross-country is, because it's boring for me to run by myself as I'd rather run with a group of people that are at my same speed and you can socialize while you run and I've made many friends from it.

I'm currently on my HighSchool's Cross Country team. I'm going to be a Junior and I joined Cross Country when I was a Freshman. I love running, which is one of the reasons why I joined Cross Country in the first place ! I was really terrible when I first began but I improved over time ! I'm hoping in this season I will be able to get a Sub 17 minute mile, or at least break 17 minutes ! :D
