Two days after the Colts fired head coach Jim Caldwell, they fired eight assistant coaches.

Now, reports are saying Jim Irsay flew to Florida on Friday to discuss a possible head coaching job with former-Ohio St. head coach, Jim Tressel.

Tressel was hired this season by Jim Caldwell as a game-day consultant, and work in the coach's booth to advise Caldwell about replay reviews. Due to his resignation because of the scandal at Ohio St., though, he didn't start his duties until the 7th game of the season, and commissioner Roger Goodell said he would have suspended him if he would have started any sooner.

So, do you think Tressel would be a good match for the Colts?
 
it depends, can he win without his superstar? Caldwell clearly couldn't do it, good reason for him to kiss the NFL good bye.
 
Way too much blame on Caldwell. People always point to the coach in circumstances like these, and that's just wrong. This team crumbled without Manning ,because they had no idea how to work without him.

Without Manning, they have to completely restructure the team, or bring in a "great" quarterback, because as you can see, Manning defintily took that team of nobody's to the playoffs every year. He is such a spectacular QB.
 
I guess Tressel would be fine in Indy. A good place to start off his NFL career.

A good coach makes adjustments when they lose one of their top players, Caldwell failed to make a single good adjustment until the final 3 or 4 weeks of the season.

Caldwell was nothing without Manning, and a team can't rely on a player to be the coach and the top player on the team.

Who else are you gonna place the blame on?

The Coach is always the escape goat, ALWAYS.

I'm not buying that it's all his fault.

And exactly who is that? The players? Jim Irsay?

I agree that sometimes the coach gets the blame when he shouldn't, but here, there's no one left to blame, except maybe Irsay for not getting rid of Caldwell sooner. It's probably not 100% Caldwell's fault, but I'd say probably 75% is on him.
