CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The Cincinnati Cyclones, proud affiliate of the NHL’s Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators, announced today that they have offered a professional tryout to Carson Palmer. The tryout will take place on Thursday, September 29 at 7:00pm on the ice at U.S. Bank Arena. The general public is invited to attend the tryout as it will coincide with the Cyclones annual preseason Open House. Fans will also have the ability to tour the Cyclones locker room, take a shot on Cyclones broadcaster and one game goalie phenom Nick Brunker, and also pick out their seats for the upcoming Cyclones season.

The 6’5” Southern California native recently “retired” from pro football. The Cyclones hope to allow Palmer to continue his professional sports career in Cincinnati by losing the cleats and lacing up the skates this season. Palmer spent eight great seasons leading the Bengals and the Cyclones hope that he can quarterback their power play for the upcoming year.

Should the former Heisman Trophy winner grab a spot on the team, he will earn the league minimum of $370 per week while also sharing lodging with one of his teammates in a spacious two-bedroom apartment. Palmer will also enjoy the luxury of traveling to and from each game on a ‘sleeper’ bus where each player has their very own bunk. Palmer, who has worn #9 during his entire pro-career, will have to negotiate with last year’s leading scorer Mathieu Aubin to wear the single digit mark this season.

“To be able to have an athlete such as Carson Palmer would be a major addition to this year’s club” said Cyclones Head Coach Jarrod Skalde. “Palmer’s leadership and command of a game in the offensive zone should help our squad this season. His skating ability, stick handling skills, and slapshot have yet to be seen but growing up in the hockey hotbed of Fresno, California…one can only think he’s a natural.”

The countdown to the 2011-12 season is officially underway! Secure your seats for this year’s Home Opener on Saturday, November 5 when the Cyclones welcome the Chicago Express to U.S. Bank Arena for the first time at 7:30pm. Contact a ticket representative today at 513.421.PUCK or log on to CyclonesHockey.com for more information. Fans can also get the latest team updates during the offseason on Facebook and Twitter.

lol I doubt even if he makes it he'd want to ride a bus for $370 a week. Nothing like a good publicity stunt.

Yeah I bet he won't make the team. :P And please don't double post. Either edit your original post or wait 48 hours. Thanks. :)

Haha that's awesome. US Bank Arena is only like 20 minutes away from my house. I'll see if I can go.

Hahaha wow. :P almost seems like Michael Jordan trying out baseball. He's good at football, but this is never going to happen. I'd like to see him try to play in the NHL.

Hockey is by far harder then football, so I'd be shocked if he makes it. I think it'd be funny to see the Clones run into injury/callup issues later in the year and all of sudden need him. In the ECHL, both are big issues. I know when Kzoo started in the ECHL in 09-10 we had like 9guys called up in 7days plus 2other go on the IR. Keep in mind the ECHL is AA, or so it says(I don't agree).

It would be funny if he makes it and they go onto win the Cup, he wins a Kelly Cup before the Super Bowl that he'll never get.

It's kind of like AA. I don't know what the A level-esque league would be, though.

And yeah, this sounds like one huge publicity stunt. I can't see him making the team.It is AA, but the affiliation and the number of guys gone to the NHL from the ECHL are made too big of deals. Affiliations are a joke, you get maybe 4guys and other then those guys anybody can go anywhere. Also, last year Moose(AHL) were affiliated with the now defunct Salmon Kings but we got one of their players anyways. One of our guys from Bridgeport got assigned to the Gladiators. So outside of the weekly check from the AHL team, the affiliations mean nothing.

The Southern Professional Hockey League(SPHL) is considered by many to be A, but the so is the Federal Hockey League(FHL). I believe the SPHL to be A since its been around longer and seems to have taken on the role.

The CHL is in some trouble though, both Cup finalists left, one folded for good. They lost 2other teams, one to juniors and I forgot what happened to the other one.

Looking at it on Wikipedia, the ECHL affiliation guide looks like a big joke. I'm confused just looking at it. Teammates one night? It could be rivals the next.

The other AA-level league is the CHL (Central Hockey League). Not very many affiliates there, but one team has four teams as affiliates. Sounds all sorts of confusing.
