Chargers moving RB Najee Harris to active roster from NFI list

gettyimages-2214195569.jpg

As the Chargers fan base continues to wait for the team’s final cuts past Tuesday’s deadline, they’ve been greeted with some positive news regarding running back Najee Harris.

Per NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Chargers are moving Harris from the non-football injury list to the active roster. Harris has continued to rehab and recover from his eye injury he sustained in a Fourth of July accident that has caused him to miss all of training camp and the preseason.

The #Chargers are moving RB Najee Harris to the active roster from the non-football injury list, per me and @TomPelissero.

Harris is recovering from injuries, facial and otherwise, sustained in a fireworks accident but has been working and getting ready. A good sign. pic.twitter.com/E1NEQENJFw

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) August 26, 2025

During the broadcast of the team’s preseason finale against the 49ers, general manager Joe Hortiz said that Harris is “on track” and that he could be “good to go” for Week One against the Chiefs in Brazil. Now even after hearing Hortiz say that I am not completely sold. Harris’ workload in the final week of the preseason included walking around the field in a weighted vest and doing rehabbing off on a side field.

With two weeks left until the trip to Brazil, I don’t see Harris going from that to a normal practice load in such a short span of time. For now, it’s safe to assume Harris will be ready sooner than expected, but Omarion Hampton and Hassan Haskins will lead the backfield out of the gates in Brazil.

Chargers trade conditional 2027 7th to Texans for OT Austin Deculus

gettyimages-2230931190.jpg

The Chargers did not want to bank on the waiver wire to land some much-needed depth along the offensive line.

Per The Insiders, the Bolts are sending a conditional seventh-round pick in 2027 to the Texans in exchange for offensive tackle Austin Deculus. Deculus is a former sixth-round pick in 2022 who has spent time with the Texans, Jets, and Saints in his young career.

The #Texans are trading Austin Deculus to the #Chargers for a conditional 7th in 2027, per the Insiders.

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) August 26, 2025

Per Pro Football Focus, Deculus has played 152 snaps at left tackle this preseason. He also has snaps at right tackle in the NFL which is also where he starred for the LSU Tigers in college, including in 2019 en route to winning the national championship alongside Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase.

At this point in his career, Deculus has seen snaps in 13 total contests while earning one start to his name. He’ll compete for the team’s swing tackle job with versatile offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer.

Chiefs WR Rashee Rice will miss season opener vs. Chargers

imagn-26827754.jpg

Early on Wednesday morning, reports came out about the NFL aiming to hand down a six-game suspension to Chiefs wide receiver Rahsee Rice stemming from his actions in a 2024 car crash. Hours later, NFL Network’s Tim Pelissero then reported that Rice has accepted the suspension and will serve his suspension through the first six weeks of the regular season. If this is the case, Rice will miss the season opener in Brazil against the Chargers, on top of contests against the Eagles, Giants, Ravens, Jaguars, and Lions.

The games that Rashee Rice will in fact miss:

🏈Week 1: Chargers (in Brazil)
🏈Week 2: Eagles
🏈Week 3: at Giants
🏈Week 4: Ravens
🏈Week 5: at Jaguars
🏈Week 6: Lions https://t.co/zIYnZcJtGi

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) August 27, 2025

Rice currently sits atop the Chiefs receiver depth chart alongside second-year standout Xavier Worthy. Behind them are veteran Hollywood Brown, former Patriots second-rounder Tyquan Thornton, and journeyman Juju Smith-Schuster.

As the Chiefs have shown year-in and year-out, they can likely handle the shortcoming at wideout due to the presence of tight end Travis Kelce and the mastermind of Andy Reid as the play-caller, but Rice’s missing presence will still be felt as a consistent play-maker for Kansas City. The Chargers and their fan base should be feeling great about not having to face a full-powered Chiefs squad in the opener.

Chargers lose RB Raheim Sanders, 2 others on waivers

imagn-26835504.jpg

When the Chargers announced their official 53-man roster on Tuesday, fans were surprised to see them only keep three running backs which meant waiving both Raheim Sanders and Kimani Vidal. The hope, of course, was for both to land back on the practice squad following Wednesday’s waiver claims.

Unfortunately, all the hype and potential that surrounded Sanders as a promising UDFA this season has quickly vanished after it was reported that he’d been claimed by the Cleveland Browns. Sanders, along with 2024 seventh-round pick Trikweze Bridges and wide receiver Dalevon Campbell, were claimed on Wednesday’s first wave of transactions. Bridges was snagged by the Dallas Cowboys while Campbell returns to the Carolinas (played at South Carolina) where he will join the Panthers.

With those claims out of the way, the Chargers can now begin building their practice squad and it’s safe to say that the Bolts’ 2024 sixth-round pick in Vidal will be returning on the PS.

Chargers announce 2025 practice squad

imagn-26823113.jpg

The Chargers announced their 2025 practice squad on Wednesday afternoon that included 17 players. All of the players signed to the practice squad were waived or released by the Chargers during Tuesday’s final cuts deadline.

It looks as if the Chargers actively leaned into the offensive side of the ball as there are 11 offensive players amongst the group versus just six on defense. Notable names brought back include veteran safety Tony Jefferson, running back Nyheim Miller-Hines, and former sixth-round picks Branson Taylor and Kimani Vidal.

Here is the entire Chargers 2025 practice squad as they begin prep for the season opener against the Chiefs in Brazil.

Chargers name Justin Hebert, Khalil Mack among captains for 2025 season

imagn-24485233.jpg

On Wednesday afternoon, along with a plethora of other news breaks coming from the team, the Chargers announced their captains for the 2025 regular season. They are:

Quarterback Justin Herbert, offensive tackle Joe Alt, and center Bradley Bozeman on offense with wide receiver Keenan Allen as an alternate.

On defense, edge rusher Khalil Mack, safety Derwin James, and linebacker Daiyan Henley got the nod with linebacker Denzel Perryman designated as the alternate for that side of the ball.

Joe Alt
Bradley Bozeman
Keenan Allen – alternate

DEFENSE
Khalil Mack
Derwin James
Daiyan Henley
Denzel Perryman – alternate

— Los Angeles Chargers (@chargers) August 27, 2025

Both Henley and Alt are first-time captains for the Chargers, and neither should be a surprise to anyone. Alt is essentially replacing the injured Rashawn Slater as the leader of the offensive line (sorry Bozeman) and Henley is rightfully getting the recognition he deserves after a standout year in 2024. As defensive coordinator Jesse Minter has said at one time or another this offseason, Henley has continued to grow into his own and into his new role as the leader of the linebacker room.

Congrats to all of these worthy players!

Chargers sign LB Del’Shawn Phillips to active roster, place CB Eric Rogers on IR

imagn-26685988.jpg

The Chargers are re-signing linebacker Del’Shawn Phillips to the active roster and placing rookie undrafted free agent cornerback Eric Rogers on IR. Rogers was injured during the team’s second preseason game against the New Orleans Saints after picking off two passes and returning one for a touchdown.

In that limited amount of playtime prior to his injury, he showed enough to the Chargers to have him kept through final cuts and it looks like the team will be giving him all the time he needs to heal and recover before returning to the team. Unfortunately, it looks like we’ll have to wait until the 2026 season to see Rogers in action once again as he is not being designated to return.

The Chargers signed Phillips earlier this offseason in an attempt to flesh out their linebacker depth while adding an experienced contributor on special teams to help replace the loss of former Bolts linebacker Nick Niemann. Niemann signed with the Texans as a free agent in March but has since been cut and signed to the Packers practice squad.

Chargers 3rd-year edge rusher named X-Factor for 2025 season

gettyimages-2193254202.jpg

The Chargers did not have a player go over 10 or more sacks during the 2024 season. Despite playing in every game, veteran pass rusher Khalil Mack’s production came tumbling down from his 17-sack season in 2023 to just six sacks this past campaign. Insanely enough, his sack total in 2024 was matched by his single-game record six sacks against the Raiders the year prior.

With Mack’s numbers vastly down, it was second-year edge player Tuli Tuipulotu who quietly led the Chargers with 8.5 sacks and 11 tackles for loss. With Joey Bosa now in Buffalo, this is Tuli’s starting job heading into the upcoming season. With that in mind — on top of several other reasons — is why Tuli was named the Chargers’ X-factor for this season by ESPN’s Ben Solak.

Tuipulotu had 8.5 of the quietest sacks you ever saw — or perhaps didn’t see — last season,“ says Solak. ”He was a low-pressure, high-sack player — and as we know, pressure is the stickier stat. Still, some players have a knack for splashy tackles behind the line of scrimmage, and he is one of them. In run defense we see the same sensation: By NFL Next Gen Stats’ charting, he was below average in total run stops but above average in stuffs — negative plays for the offense.

Tuipulotu cannot just be a splash player this go-round, though. He split snaps with Bud Dupree and Joey Bosa (when the latter was healthy) last season. Bosa is now off the roster, without much new depth behind. Tuipulotu will be a full-game starter, playing north of 70% of the snaps on a weekly basis opposite Khalil Mack — and you know where opposing offenses will send their pass protection help on third-and-long. If Tuipulotu continues generating explosives on an increased snap count while also finding more down-to-down consistency, he’ll be one of the league’s most impactful No. 2 edge rushers.

I personally did not know that bit of context on Tuli’s 2024 season. Overall it seemed like an improvement on his rookie year in which he went from 4.5 sacks to 8.5, but per Solak it looks like his consistency and down-to-down efficiency wasn’t the same. So yes, that does need to change in year three where he’ll be looked at to make something happen each and every week as a starter at a premium position.

Chargers nab 2026’s best center prospect in new mock draft

gettyimages-2179073285.jpg

The Chargers needed to improve their interior offensive line this offseason in a big way and no one would have been surprised if they had replaced all three starters from the 2024 lineup in Zion Johnson, Bradley Bozeman, and Trey Pipkins. However, the team only wound up replacing Pipkins with former Eagles guard Mekhi Becton. An improvement of any kind is still an improvement, but the same worries that the group ended the 2024 season with are still around with Bozeman and Johnson back in the saddle for another go-round.

Unless there’s some kind of marked improvement by those two in 2025, the Chargers are almost sure to replace both next offseason. With that in mind, the analysts who are already putting together 2026 mock drafts are pairing the Chargers with some of the best, if not THE best, interior linemen in next year’s class.

In the first 2026 mock this year by CBS Sports’ Mike Renner, he has the Chargers going all in on their center of the future by selecting Auburn’s Connor Lew with the 18th pick in the draft. Renner has the 6’3, 303-pound Lew as the top center prospect in the class and believes he’d be a welcomed addition up front for the Bolts.

Jim Harbaugh won’t stop until he has the baddest offensive line in the NFL. And when Rashawn Slater was healthy, they were going to be pretty darn close. Center is still a weakish link with Bradley Bozeman there, so the Chargers add the best center prospect in the class in Connor Lew.

Lew claimed the starting center job for the Tigers halfway through his true freshman season following an injury to veteran Avery Jones. He finished the year with multiple Freshman All-American honors and parlayed that into a strong year as a sophomore this past season where he allowed just nine pressures all year.

By the end of the 2025 season, barring any injuries, Lew will be a three-year starter at center in the SEC with exceptional movement skills and a high football IQ. Those don’t grow on trees all that often and it would be smart for Jim Harbaugh and Joe Hortiz to consider adding such a prospect if the draft ends up falling that way.

Auburn center Connor Lew (@ConnorLew1) is a smooth operator at the pivot.

One of the top centers in the country, Lew combines athleticism with a tough, competitive edge. He also has excellent mirroring ability and body control in pass pro.#WarEagle🦅 | #AuburnMade pic.twitter.com/81cgt3mT6A

How confident are you in the Chargers compared to earlier this offseason?

Welcome to another SB Nation Reacts survey series, sponsored by FanDuel Sportsbook. This week, we are asking Los Angeles Chargers fans: How confident are you in the 2025 Chargers now compared to earlier this offseason?

This offseason, the Chargers have seen positives and negatives. The largest of the latter being the season-ending ruptured patellar tendon injury to left tackle Rashawn Slater. However, there are positives in the preseason defensive dominance of the depth units. What Defensive Coordinator Jesse Minter devised in exhibition games routinely clamped down their opponents. The Chargers signed wide receiver Keenan Allen after the surprise retirement of Mike Williams. It’s been a rollercoaster.

With all this in mind, are you more, less, or the same in your confidence of the 2025 Los Angeles Chargers? Please vote above.

Chargers bring back old face, release OT David Sharpe

gettyimages-2191917362.jpg

On Thursday afternoon just before practice, the Chargers announced a pair of transactions centered on their offensive line.

First, they announced the signing of offensive tackle Foster Sarell who rejoins the team he spent the past four season with (2021-2024) before he signed a one-year contract with the Commanders in March. But after being cut from the team on Wednesday, Sarell is back in a familiar place where he can earn a role as the team’s swing tackle.

In a corresponding move, the Chargers are releasing veteran tackle David Sharpe from the practice squad whom they signed halfway through the preseason.

we’ve signed T Foster Sarell to our practice squad and released T David Sharpe from the practice squad pic.twitter.com/YECvgrBCHF

— Los Angeles Chargers (@chargers) August 28, 2025

In his most recent presser with the media, offensive coordinator Greg Roman said that offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer was “most likely the answer” at swing tackle. But now with Sarell, the two will likely compete for the job over the next week or so to decide who officially gets the honor.

Lebron James endorses Chargers’ Ladd McConkey for ‘monster season’ in 2025

In a recent interview, NBA superstar Lebron James was asked to give six names of NFL players he believes are “guys to watch” during the 2025 season. As he worked his way through the list, he gave names such as Texans quarterback CJ Stroud, Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins, and Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton.

Finally, with his sixth and final pick, James highlighted “that receiver who was a rookie last year from the Chargers.” Of course, The King meant Ladd McConkey, the shifty and explosive wideout who set rookie franchise records for both receptions and yards while helping the Chargers to the playoffs.

“Yeah, Ladd McConkey. That’s my last one. I think he’s (going to) have a monster year.”

👑 LeBron’s got his eyes on ⚡️Ladd McConkey⚡️ this season: “I think he’s gonna have a monster year.”

The King calling it now… Chargers fans, is McConkey HIM? 👀🔥 #BoltUp pic.twitter.com/G7sz8NlpC6

— LAFB Network (@LAFBNetwork) August 28, 2025

In his first professional season, McConkey recorded 82 receptions for 1,149 yards and seven touchdowns during the regular season. In the lone playoff game against the Houston Texans, McConkey exploded for 197 yards and a touchdown on nine receptions, the former setting the all-time rookie record for receiving yards in a playoff game.

Now you don’t have to be Lebron James to see that McConkey is bound for a great season in 2025, but it’s nonetheless an extremely cool shoutout to receive!

Fan confidence in Chargers falls after offseason

gettyimages-2179998513.jpg

As the offseason began, confidence in the Los Angeles Chargers grew — for good reason. A strong team with a head coach known for delivering success and back-to-back solid drafts. Defensive coordinator Jesse Minter’s defense looked to only improve and all things were shaping up well. But since the end of the offseason and over the course of the preseason, the Chargers have gone through some tribulations; our poll results from earlier in the week, sponsored by FanDuel Sportsbook, saw a drop in fan confidence.

Chargers-SBN.png

It unfortunately makes sense that confidence has faltered. The loss of arguably the best all-around football player on the team, left tackle Rashawn Slater, suffered a season-ending ruptured patellar tendon. And though the team landed wide receiver Keenan Allen to replace Mike Williams after his sudden retirement, the loss of Slater is significant.

But not all are among the plurality of lesser confidence. Nearly one-third of Chargers fans have the same confidence as before. And nearly one-fourth of fans listened to training camp reports, watched the preseason and came away more confident than before.

Now, it’s up to the Chargers to deliver on expectations. It begins on Friday, September 5 at 5 p.m. Bolt time in Brazil.

Chargers make handful of roster moves, add new RB to practice squad

gettyimages-2230617693.jpg

The Chargers are already busy getting their preparation underway for Week One of the 2025 NFL regular season and it has begun with a handful of roster moves announced on Sunday afternoon.

Firstly, the Chargers announced the signings of wide receiver Luke Grimm and running back Amar Johnson. Grimm rejoins the Bolts after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent in April while Johnson joins the team following a recent workout.

In corresponding moves to make room for both Grim and Johnson, the Chargers released offensive guard Karsen Barnhart from the practice squad and placed wide receiver Jalen Reagor on the practice squad; injured list.

we’ve made the following roster moves:

— Los Angeles Chargers (@chargers) August 31, 2025

Johnson played collegiately at South Dakota State before going undrafted earlier this year. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the Packers and had a notable preseason performance, including this extremely impressive 39-yard touchdown run:

Grimm flashed himself during the preseason when he returned a punt against the Rams for a 66-yard touchdown. However, that highlight was essentially washed away following two turnovers against the 49ers in the preseason finale. Grimm impressed early in camp and it looks like the coaching staff wasn’t ready to quit him just yet.

Chargers-Chiefs Wednesday Injury Report: Najee Harris FULL

usa_today_26241000.jpg

It’s officially the regular season and we’ve got our first Chargers injury report of the new campaign. With the Chargers playing the second game of the year on Friday, their reports are starting a day earlier than usual compared to the normal Wednesday.

As it goes with these early reports of the season, they’re a little light on names and this one os luckily no different. Only two names grace the report in running back Najee Harris (eye) and safety Elijah Molden (knee). Harris recorded a full practice which seems quite insane given that he missed so much time and has only been practicing for roughly two weeks. As for Molden, he was a limited participant with the knee injury he sustained against the Bucs in the latter half of last season.
