Arizona Cardinals safety Budda Baker was awarded the Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award.

From the team:

Arizona Cardinals safety Budda Baker has been named the winner of the 2025 Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award at tonight’s NFL Honors ceremony in San Francisco, CA.

The award is presented each year to an NFL player who best demonstrates the qualities of on-field sportsmanship, including fair play, respect for the game and opponents, and integrity in competition.

This marked the third straight year Baker was a finalist for the award, which was created in honor of the late founding owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pro Football Hall of Famer Art Rooney, Sr.

The winner of the NFL Sportsmanship Award is determined by a vote of current NFL players. This marks the second time a Cardinals player was named the Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award winner after wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald took home the honor in the award’s inaugural season in 2014.

As the winner, Baker received a $25,000 donation from the NFL Foundation to a charity of his choice.

As aggressive on the field as any player in the league, Baker has always balanced his relentless and physical playing style with a respect for the game and his opponents. Over the last five seasons (2021-25), Baker easily led all NFL DBs with 580 total tackles while adding 4.5 sacks, 26 tackles for loss, six interceptions, 24 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Despite that production and playing over 4,900 total snaps during that span, he was penalized just four times.

Baker has been voted a team captain each of the last six seasons and has also been selected him to the Pro Bowl eight times, including as a starter at safety each of the last seven years.

The other finalists in 2025 were LB Lavonte David (Tampa Bay), LB Demario Davis (New Orleans) and T Brian O’Neill (Minnesota) in the NFC, and DT DeForest Buckner (Indianapolis), DT Harrison Phillips (New York Jets), DT Zach Sieler (Miami) and LB Kyle Van Noy (Baltimore) in the AFC.

Congratulations to Baker on an outstanding award.

Lots of moving pieces here for the Cardinals. I'll give LaFleur a solid B+ on the hire - he impressed at the presser and has a good offensive pedigree, though obviously we'll need to see how it translates. The Hackett hire as OC is... interesting. Those Green Bay numbers were legitimately good, but his Denver stint left a bad taste. Hoping he thrives in a supporting role rather than being the main guy.

For the DC candidates, I'm most intrigued by Dino Vasso. Helping develop that Houston secondary into the best passing defense in the league is no joke. Pleasant has solid experience bouncing around good organizations too. Either of those would be fine by me.

And man, Larry Fitzgerald getting in first ballot is just right. Watching him catch touchdowns from that list of quarterbacks and still put up those numbers... that's the definition of consistency and greatness. The 2008 playoff run alone was legendary. Well deserved.

Congrats to Budda on the Rooney Award too. Eight Pro Bowls, only four penalties over five seasons while playing that physical? That's remarkable discipline.

As for the Super Bowl... ugh. Seahawks or Patriots. I guess I'm reluctantly pulling for New England just because division rival and all that. Neither outcome will feel good though.

Arizona Cardinals fans give Mike LaFleur hire high marks

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Cardinals fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.

Happy Saturday one and all.

The Arizona Cardinals announced Mike LaFleur as their new head coach about one week ago, they introduced him on Tuesday and announced the hiring of Nathaniel Hackett on Wednesday.

So when we asked the question of what your initial grade of LaFleur’s hire was, it was not surprising to see fans as cautiously optomistic.

68% of fans graded it as either a “B” or “C” with the majority of fans giving it a “B” grade, and that makes sense. You want to be excited, but it is mostly cautiously, as you try and believe in what the Cardinals are doing when it is the Cardinals and they have not earned that right.

Arizona_2_020426.png

However, only the most jaded are against the hire, so seeing how much the fans are trying to be excited while not overreacting makes a lot of sense.

What did you grade the hire?

Kelvin Beachum’s mom Culetta says she’s most proud of his humility

Each year, the annual Walter Payton Man of the Year award is awarded to a player whose philanthropy and commitment to community stands out. For the Cardinals, this year’s nominee was Kelvin Beachum, and his mother, Culetta, took the time to speak to SB Nation on Radio Row ahead of Super Bowl 60 in San Francisco, Calif.

Mrs. Beachum joined us on behalf of JC Penney, who took her and two other NFL moms of Walter Payton Man of the Year candidates shopping to get red-carpet ready.

Dawkins-Beachum-Thomas-Shopping-JCPenney-Evening-Wear.jpg
Dawkins-Beachum-Thomas-celebrating-a-successful-JCPenney-haul.jpg

“It’s a beautiful, beautiful store,” Mrs. Beachum said. “We went shopping, looking at all the beautiful clothes, the glamorous shoes, blinging, gorgeous purses, jewelry — affordable jewelry. Oh my goodness. I could have just stayed right there for a little bit longer. Absolutely a nice experience, and just having the glamour, being all glammed up was a nice experience.”

Beachum was the oldest of four siblings — and his parents just adopted five nephews, which now makes Beachum the eldest of NINE siblings. Being the big brother led to Kelvin stepping into a leadership role in the family.

It became evident to the Beachums that Kelvin’s athletic talent was something special when he was in high school.

“He was very athletic, very athletic. He played basketball, then he played football, and I remember in a basketball game, he scored 30 I think it was — 32, 36 points in one game,” Mrs. Beachum said. “Then, when I saw him push a tractor tire — roll a tractor tire, and I said, ‘This is different.’ And it’s because of his work ethic.”

This year’s nomination for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award was Beachum’s third, and he’s been named the NFLPA’s weekly Community MVP award a record five times.

Beachum’s foundation, the Kelvin Beachum Foundation, focuses on meeting basic needs like clean water and food, and also on STEM. His interest in STEM, education, and helping others comes from his extended family, including his grandparents and great-grandparents.

“It stemmed from his grandparents, great grandparents. With his grandparents, my father is an automotive technician. His dad was a technician,” Mrs. Beachum said. He has his own business now, so Kelvin got to experience firsthand. So because of that, it just helped enhance his understanding. And especially education, and children who are not as fortunate. So he was able to say, you know what? I can use my resources to do more than what my parents were able to do. And as a parent, that’s what you always want to see. I want [my children] to be better than me.”

The NFL hasn’t changed Beachum, according to his mom. He remains humble.

“When he comes home, he is not the player. He’s my son,” Mrs. Beachum said. “He has work clothes. ‘Put your work clothes on, we need you to work on the farm. Your daddy needs you at the shop.’ And so with his him just being humble, that’s one of the things I’m really proud of.“

It may be obvious based on his efforts to help others and support his community, but Mrs. Beachum said that one thing she’d like fans to know about her son is that he has a big heart. And it seems like that’s a trait that runs in the family.

Today, it is Super Bowl LX, as the New England Patriots take on the Seattle Seahawks in a game where most of the money is flying in on the side of the Seahawks on the point spread, not just the moneyline.

Jess and I start with a look at our picks for the game and what we expect.

Yet, those are not the only bets that are appealing in this one.

Jess and I went through some of the best prop bets on FanDuel Sportsbook to find the best bang for your buck and look at if we can expect any to hit.

Seattle Seahawks are Super Bowl LX champions

The Arizona Cardinals NFC West rivals are Super Bowl champions, as the Seattle Seahawks controlled the Super Bowl for most of the game and now are officially the best team in the NFL.

For the Seahawks, it was being bold.

They moved on from their offensive coordinator and quarterback after only winning 10 games in 2024, and in the end, it paid off as they are the champs.

Sam Darnold did enough, Kenneth Walker kept the chains moving, and the Seahawks defense just absolutely controlled things, as Drake Maye was sacked six times and intercepted twice, and just looked like he didn’t belong in this game.

He had struggled most of the playoffs, but the New England Patriots had enough around him to help out.

Tonight, against a complete team, Maye couldn’t get enough done to really make it a competitive game, when he had the shot, he threw a brutal interception.

Congrats, begrudgingly, to the Seattle Seahawks on their Super Bowl win.

Does this give you any thoughts on the Arizona Cardinals moving forward?

We are officially done with the 2025 NFL season, and congratulations to the Seattle Seahawks for winning Super Bowl LX.

Now, we are into another new era of Arizona Cardinals football, and hopefully we will be talking about the Cardinals in a similar situation as the Seahawks in a couple of years.

It’ll start with free agency in 2026, and we first need to decide who the Arizona Cardinals need to bring back or who they can watch move on.

Let’s take a look.

Cardinals pending free agents 2026

  • Jonah Williams
  • Jalen Thompson
  • Calais Campbell
  • Kelvin Beachum
  • Greg Dortch
  • L.J. Collier
  • Zay Jones
  • Will Hernandez
  • Blake Gillikin
  • Aaron Brewer
  • Pharaoh Brown
  • Matt Haack
  • Simi Fehoko
  • Josiah Deguara
  • Michael Carter
  • Darren Hall
  • Channing Tindall
  • J.J. Russell
  • Travis Vokolek
  • Zonovan Knight
  • Chad Ryland
  • Joshua Karty
  • P.J. Mustipher
  • Starling Thomas V
  • Emari Demercado

There are some names on this list that it feels like should be priorities to be brought back, but I am interested to see what Arizona Cardinals fans think and who they would view as priorities.

OH BOY here we go, gotta watch Seattle celebrate a Super Bowl while we're sitting here giving Mike LaFleur a solid B grade and hoping for the best. FANTASTIC. Just what I needed to see - our division rivals hoisting the Lombardi while we're trying to figure out if we can afford to keep Greg Dortch around.

Look, I'm a Bills fan first but I've been watching this Cardinals situation closely and I gotta say - that Beachum story is the feel good content we need right now. Dude's been nominated for Walter Payton Man of the Year THREE TIMES and his mom still makes him put on work clothes when he comes home?? That's the kind of humble attitude you want in your locker room. Keep that man around if you can.

As for the free agent list - Dortch is a no-brainer to bring back in my opinion. The guy produces when healthy and he's not gonna break the bank. Zay Jones though? Ehhhhh I've seen enough of Zay Jones in Buffalo to know he's a replacement level guy at best. Let him walk.

The Calais Campbell situation is interesting - dude is ancient in NFL years but still productive. If he wants to come back cheap for one more run, why not?

But seriously Cardinals fans - how you feeling about watching Seattle win it all? That's gotta sting watching Darnold of all people get a ring before Kyler even sniffs a playoff win. The NFC West arms race just got REAL interesting.

Arizona Cardinals interviewing Aubrey Pleasant for defensive coordinator position

The Arizona Cardinals are needing to hire a defensive coordinator for Mike LaFleur’s staff, while also already losing the chance at one since Dino Vasso has already withdrawn from consideration.

One Cardinals DC candidate has pulled out of consideration

So, when it came out that Vasso withdrew, it made the news today that one of the leading candidates is not only interviewing for the Cardinals position, but also interviewing with one of the best defenses in the NFL in the Cleveland Browns.

It’s a busy day for Aubrey Pleasant: The #Rams AHC and passing game coordinator will meet with the #AZCardinals for their open DC position and now will interview with the #Browns for their DC job this afternoon, as well. pic.twitter.com/kVRcUuCRh4

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) February 9, 2026

The Browns finished 14th in scoring defense and fourth in yards allowed.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals finished 29th in scoring defense and 27th in yards allowed.

If Pleasant has his pick of jobs, well of the two jobs, you have to be hopeful that the youth, the high draft picks and the likely relationship with Mike LaFleur would figure into the decision.

What are your thoughts on the Cardinals pursuit of Pleasant? Is he a priority or would a Wink Martindale or Charlie Bullen be okay with you?

Cardinals Free Agency Tracker: Offensive Guard David Edwards

(Photo by Cooper Neill/Getty Images) | Getty Images
Black-Yellow-logo.jpg

The Arizona Cardinals’ offensive line ranked #26 for the 2025 NFL season. Yeah, that’s pretty bad. To be fair, a lot of situations occurred to help drive that number way down.

At season’s end, the IR list housed three starters: RG Will Hernandez, RT Jonah Williams, and OT Paris Johnson. In addition, starting RB James Conner and his backup, Trey Benson, ended their season on IR as well.

RELATED: 2026 CARDINALS FREE AGENT LIST

Both starting guards, Evan Brown and Isaiah Adams, have plenty of issues. Brown’s Pro Football Focus grade was 54.3, while Adams graded out at 57.2, and Hernandez, when he was healthy, had a 45.3 overall grade.

The offensive guard position really needs two new bodies. Hernandez is a free agent, so that takes care of one, but Brown has one year remaining with a cap hit of $6.41 million, and Adams just finished the second year of his four-year rookie deal and will be paid $1.3 million in base salary.

The NFL free agency period begins March 9-11.

Let’s start with replacing one offensive guard at a time. So, Arizona needs starters and quality backups for the guard position. Perhaps both Adams and Brown could become experienced backups, especially Adams, since he was drafted in the third round of the 2024 to eventually become the starter.

Here is a free agent guard possibility for the Cardinals: OG David Edwards.

OG David Edwards

Buffalo Bills

6’-6”, 308 pounds

Age:
28

2025 PFF rating: 73.7

NFL draft: 2019 Round 5, pick #169 (Rams)

Career Accolades: Super Bowl Champion 2021 (Rams)

40 time: 5.28

2023 season: 16 starts, 1,035 offensive snaps

Extremely durable player has only missed 14 games due to injury since coming into the league in 2019. Excellent athleticism and high upside. Very good run blocker and known for his quickness.

gettyimages-2172051428.jpg

In the 2025 season, Edwards had only three penalties and allowed three sacks this year, all at left guard. He also allowed 27 pressures.

He has versatility in that he has played tackle before. He was the starting right tackle for three years while at Wisconsin, where he was voted First Team All-American.

His snap count for this past year is incredible and demonstrates his ability to play with nicks and various ailments and still show up on Sundays. The year before, he had 977 snaps. Edwards has long arms with a massive frame. He is good at pulling and taking out linebackers at the second level.

He is a bit raw in technical aspects and will overextend occasionally. But what the Cardinals will be getting in Edwards is an aggressive guard with great mobility. He is an exceptional player and won’t come cheap.

Projection: Three years, $35 million

Former Pro Bowl QB considered for Cardinals’ coaching staff

It wasn’t that long ago that veteran Pro Bowl quarterback Matt Schaub was prepping for his own Super Bowl with the Atlanta Falcons against the New England Patriots.

Now, he is being considered for the QB coaching position with the Arizona Cardinals.

RELATED: HACKETT HIRED AS CARDINALS OC

New Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur is busy filling out his coaching staff. First up for the offense, he chose veteran offensive mind Nathaniel Hackett as the OC. Then, he inked Matt Merritt from the University of Miami to man the RB coaching spot, a job he filled while at Miami. Next up is a guy to assist with the quarterback situation.

gettyimages-1245550679.jpg

Schaub is being considered for the vacant QB Coach position. Also in the mix are Falcons offensive assistant K.J. Black, and Kansas City Chiefs assistant QB coach Dan Williams.

Black was the Co-Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach for Florida A&M University, and before that, the passing game Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach for Prairie View A&M. He began as a Grad Assistant for Prairie View A&M where he played and graduated.

Williams has been with the Chiefs for seven years and is in his third season as assistant quarterbacks coach. Before, he served as the offensive quality control/assistant quarterbacks coach for two seasons. He has been a part of three Super Bowl wins. His father, Ted Williams, spent 20 years on the Philadelphia Eagles coaching staff. Williams is a former QB with Stevenson University.

Schaub played 17 years in the NFL with four different clubs. He was a third-round draft pick of the Falcons in 2004 after a sterling career at Virginia, where he tossed 56 touchdowns. He was the 2002 ACC Player of the Year and named First Team All-ACC. He was twice selected to the All-ACC Academic Football Team and finished his college career with at least 22 school records. His #7 jersey has since been retired.

imagn-7630229.jpg

In 2007, Schaub was traded to the Houston Texans, and the 6’-6”, 245-pound signal-caller found his calling. In 2009, he led the league in total passing yards (4,770), completions (396), attempts (583), and passing yards average per game (298.1). He connected on 29 TDs with 15 picks and was named to his first Pro Bowl. That season, he was named the NFL passing yards leader.

While with Houston, Schaub set 23 team records, including “Most career wins” (46) and “Most career passing yards” (23,221). He was named to his second Pro Bowl in 2012.

He then played a single season with the Oakland Raiders and Baltimore Ravens before going back to Atlanta and backing up QB Matt Ryan before hanging up his cleats in 2021.

In 2023, the Falcons hired him as a “Football Analyst.” Schaub was able to stay involved in the NFL and perhaps become the catalyst for a coaching career.

Schaub’s coaching career may be missing the experience, but his playing days just might prove to be what LaFleur is looking for in order to get the Cardinals quarterback situation into a better place.

It is finally here.

The Arizona Cardinals and 29 other NFL teams are sitting at home as we all prepare for the final game of the season.

This is where you can discuss the game, banter about how lucky some teams are, or how far away the Arizona Cardinals are.

Hopefully it will be a good one, but the way the money is coming in, it seems far-fetched.

Looking forward to hopefully not being in the best division in the NFL next season.

Here is everything you need to know about the game.

Arizona Cardinals hire Tony Sorrentino as wide receivers coach per report

The Arizona Cardinals are hiring their new wide receivers coach, because according to Peter Schrager they are hiring Tony Sorrentino the assistant wide receivers coach for the Minnesota Vikings.

The Arizona Cardinals are hiring Minnesota Vikings Assistant WRs coach Tony Sorrentino as their WRs coach.

Sorrentino has been in Minnesota for 4 years, working with WRs Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, and now will be with Marvin Harrison Jr. and Michael Wilson. @ESPNNFL pic.twitter.com/SrsgJcVoDr

— Peter Schrager (@PSchrags) February 12, 2026

Sorrentino has worked previously at Northern Illinois University and Kent State before making the leap to the NFL and helping out the Vikings passing attack under Kevin O’Connell.

With the Vikings the wide receivers have produced massive numbers.

Now, to be fair the Vikings have Justin Jefferson who in his brief career has more first team All Pro’s than Larry Fitzgerald did in his career.

So, how much did he help? The thing that we know is that Jordan Addison when he’s on the field is good, and they have done a nice job with their third receivers as well.

Now, can he get the most out of Marvin Harrison Jr. and Michael Wilson?

What are your thoughts if any on the hire?

Former Cardinals great Jim Bakken named to Hall of Very Good

The Hall of Very Good has announced their Class of 2026, and a Cardinals familiar face was included: kicker Jim Bakken. He will join nine other pro football players.

Bakken was a roster member of the St. Louis Cardinals from 1962 to 1978 and played 17 years before hanging up his cleats. Today, he is 85 years old and lives in Madison, Wisconsin.

RELATED: CARDINALS 2026 FREE AGENT LIST

The Hall of Very Good (HOVG) is a secondary Hall as part of the membership of the Professional Football Researchers Association (PFRA). Each year, members recommend players for that year’s Hall, then the list is whittled down to 20 names. From there, 10 players are voted in.

LINK: HALL OF VERY GOOD

The purpose of the HOVG is to recognize pro football players who had excellent careers, but just not be good enough to be nominated for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. Numerous players have been elected to the HOVG and then later were indeed inducted into the Hall of Fame at a later date.

imagn-3673048.jpg

Including Bakken, 10 Cardinal players are now enshrined into the HOVG: RB O.J. Anderson, HB John David Crow, S Pat Fischer, HB Marshall Goldberg, DE Ken Gray, FB Pat Harder, OT Duke Slater, DB Abe Woodson, and coach Don Coryell.

Bakken grew up in Madison, Wisconsin, and played basketball, baseball, and was the quarterback on his high school’s football team. He then went to the University of Wisconsin and shared the QB position, but was the team’s punter and kicker. He was named Honorable Mention All-Big 10 in his sophomore year as both punter and kicker.

He led the Big 10 in punting average in his junior and senior seasons. His longest field goal was 47-yards.

Kickers and punters are drafted in today’s NFL, usually on Day 3. A lot of really good specialists go undrafted that become really good kickers. K Adam Vinatieri is in the 2026 Hall of Fame and went undrafted. The 1962 NFL draft was 20 rounds, so teams routinely selected punters and kickers. This was also a time when there were very few specialists in the NFL. The punter was usually a quarterback or a safety while the kickers were almost always an offensive lineman. Long snappers did not exist as a stand-alone position, so this task was performed by the center or a tight end. It was not uncommon for several players to take on these “extra duties.”

Bakken was chosen by the Los Angeles Rams in Round 7 of the 1962 NFL draft.

He was a last cutdown casualty of the Rams training camp, and the St. Louis Cardinals put in a waiver claim on him. Veteran Danny Villanueva covered all kicking duties, and Bakken wasn’t able to unseat him. Both players were straight-away style placekickers.

gettyimages-103028411.jpg

For St. Louis in 1961, the kicking duties were the job of offensive tackle Gerry Perry, whereas strong safety Jerry Norton was the team’s punter.

In 1962, there were just eight coaches on NFL teams, and the roster limit was 36 players. Coaching staffs did not want to have a kicker or punter take up valuable space on their roster, so other players took on these jobs. But in 1962, Bakken became the first Cardinals rostered specialist.

In his third season, he went 25-38 in field goals and 40-40 in PATs. His field goal attempts and converted field goals led the NFL in 1964. The following season he led the league in field goal percentage with 67.7% and was named to his first Pro Bowl.

In all, Bakken went to four Pro Bowls, was selected First Team All-Pro twice, and was the NFL scoring leader in 1967 (117). In addition, he was later named to the “NFL 1960s All-Decade Team” and the “NFL 1970s All-Decade Team.”

His nickname was “Bags” because his teammates referred to him as “money in the bank.”

He also had great success in his latter years. In his 13th season, he went 19-24 on field goals and 40-41 on PATs and was voted to his third Pro Bowl. The following season, he was again named to the Pro Bowl by going 20-27 on field goals and 33-35 on PATs.

In addition, Bakken had 65 NFL punts for 2,439 yards with an average of 36.8 yards per kick and a long of 56 yards.

The 2026 HOVG is his fourth Hall of Fame honor. He was inducted into the “Madison (Wisconsin) Sports Hall of Fame” in 1984, was inducted into the “University of Wisconsin Athletic Department-National W Club Hall of Fame” in 2001, and the ”St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame” in 2015.

The remainder of the 2026 HOVG class includes Nate Newton, Clem Daniels, Charley Brock, Mike Stratton, Wilber Marshall, Kent Hull, George Christensen, Greg Lloyd, and Chris Hinton.

After football, Bakken was hired as director of external relations at the University of Wisconsin’s athletic department until he retired. He was a seven-time Wisconsin State Masters Handball Doubles champion (1991-97).

In 2010, probably his greatest honor was the annual trophy given to the Big-10’s best kicker, which is named the “Bakken-Andersen Kicker of the Year” award. It is co-named after former Michigan State kicker Morten Andersen, who played 25 years in the NFL with five different clubs.

The Arizona Cardinals are running it back with a couple of their coaches.

After we just found out that Nick Rallis will be returning as the Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator, there are now also reports that the Cardinals will bring Justin Frye back as offensive line coach.

This is an interesting move, and while the Arizona Cardinals did improve as the season progressed at some places along the offensive line, we saw some real growth in Isaiah Adams and Jon Gaines, and Paris Johnson Jr looks like he’s blossoming into a monster, if he can stay healthy a full season.

So, the Cardinals have questions at three of the five positions and Hjalte Froholdt did have his worst season as a Cardinal, but maybe that was due to the instability early in the season next to him.

No matter what, we have to see some improvement for fans to really believe in this move.

Arizona Cardinals continue to fill out Mike LaFleur’s coaching staff

The Arizona Cardinals now have all of their coordinators in place, and most of their offensive coaching staff.

What remains to be seen is how defensive coordinator Nick Rallis fills out the remainder of his defensive staff over the next several weeks.

Here is what the staff for Mike LaFleur looks like.

Offensive Coordinator – Nathaniel Hackett
Defensive Coordinator – Nick Rallis
Special Teams Coordinator – Michael Ghobrial

Offensive Line Coach – Justin Frye
Wide Receivers Coach – Tony Sorrentino
Tight Ends Coach – Jake Moreland
Running Backs Coach – Matt Merritt
Quarterbacks Coach – Matt Schaub

Moreland has been a tight ends coach in the NFL since 2022 and was an assistant offensive line coach in 2021. Before that he had a long coaching career in the college ranks.

Schaub was a long-time NFL quarterback, who has only been an offensive analyst as a coach in 2023 with the Falcons.

This will be his first chance to be a position coach in the NFL.

What do you make of the staff thus far?

Cardinals Free Agency Tracker: S Coby Bryant

The Arizona Cardinals need another safety. Why? Budda Baker was just named to his fifth Pro Bowl. His running mate, Jalen Thompson, is a very good safety. So, what’s the deal?

Thompson is a free agent. Yeah, bummer.

RELATED: OG DAVID EDWARDS FREE AGENT PROFILE

In 2019, the Cardinals drafted Thompson in the fifth-round. He proved his worth and inked an extension in 2022, which ran through this past season. Arizona GM Monti Ossenfort never offered another extension during the 2025 season that would have kept him in-house. However, he might sign a new deal before the free agency period that begins March 9.

gettyimages-1640591565.jpg

This past year, Thompson had 58 total tackles with six batted passes, one sack, and zero interceptions. He is a five-year starter and has been established as one of the league’s most reliable tacklers. He missed just five tackles this year and is considered a key starter.

But unless he is signed to an extension, he is currently a free agent. This means the Cardinals must replace him either in the NFL draft or through free agency.

Arizona will need to sign a seasoned veteran to fill the open safety spot. Make no mistake, another capable body must become a roster addition this offseason.

The 2026 NFL free agency period begins March 9-11. Here is a possibility for the Cardinals.

S Coby Bryant

Seattle Seahawks

6’-1”, 193 pounds

Age:
26

PFF ranking: 65.5

NFL draft: 2022 Round 4, pick #109 (Seahawks)

Accolades: First Team All-American (2021), two-time First Team All-ACC (2020, 2021), Jim Thorpe Award winner (2021), Super Bowl Champion (2025)

40 time: 4.54

2025 season: 15 starts, 66 tackles, 0 QB hits, 0 sacks, 4 interceptions, 7 batted passes, 0 pressures, 0 hurries, 0 knockdowns, 4 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble, 18 missed tackles, 17 receptions allowed

Bryant is part of a stingy Seahawks defense, but the issue in Seattle, despite just winning the Super Bowl, is that they have a lot of guys who just played in their contract year. And they can’t keep all of them. Bryant falls into this category, and it’s unlikely the Seahawks will be able to afford to keep him.

imagn-27548086.jpg

He is only 26-years old, so he has plenty of playing time ahead of him. Pro Football Focus ranked him as a top-30 safety.

Bryant is not the top safety available during this off-season, but if the Cardinals are looking for an affordable replacement that has had two solid seasons in a row, then he will fit the bill.

He is a smart player with long arms who has high-level zone awareness. Blessed with quick-twitch agility and a high football IQ. He has the ability to read the QB’s eyes and will time out his catch point jumps.

Bryant is very willing to help in run support, although he has a high number of missed tackles.

The knock on him is that he has only average speed and stiff hip transitions. He can be a bit overaggressive as well. But he is a sticky safety who is versatile.

By signing Bryant, Arizona will weaken one of its division foes.

Projection: Three-years, $36 million

QB the Cardinals may have an interest in remaining in school

The quarterback market coming out of college got another hit when Trinidad Chambliss of Ole Miss was granted an extra year of eligibility by a state judge on Thursday. Earlier, Oregon QB Dante Moore had pulled his name from consideration and announced he will remain in school another year.

The Cardinals will most likely draft a young quarterback in this year’s NFL draft, slated for April 23-25 in Pittsburgh. Which player and in what round are the unknown.

RELATED: CHAMBLISS HAS LEGAL ISSUES

Whereas Moore simply pulled out of the draft, Chambliss went back to his school by way of the court system.

Chambliss will now become a sixth-year senior. He played four seasons with Ferris State University, a D-2 program, and last year he was the starting QB for Ole Miss, and because his eligibility was up, he entered the NFL draft.

gettyimages-2255326273.jpg

Chambliss was identified as a Day 2 draft prospect, but in a weak QB draft class, his stock could rise. He was listed as the #78 prospect, which is mid-third-round. That is where the issue began for Chambliss. According to his agent, if he remained at Ole Miss, he would blow up with NIL money and break the bank. It was assumed that his income in 2026 as a sixth-year senior playing in the SEC would probably exceed his third-round NFL contract.

Chambliss transferred to Ole Miss from Ferris State in 2025 and was expected to be their backup QB to Austin Simmons. But Simmons injured his right ankle in Week 2 against Kentucky, and in the third game against Arkansas, Chambliss was now the starter. He ended up as one of the SEC’s most dominant players as Ole Miss only lost to Georgia in Week 7 and earned a spot in the football playoffs with an 11-1-0 record.

In his lone season with Ole Miss, he showed unique qualities at the D-1 level and threw for 3,937 yards as he tossed 22 touchdowns against only three picks. Because he became a one-year wonder, his NIL prospects went through the roof.

He then petitioned the NCAA to remain in school one more year. They said no since he has played five years of college football. The NCAA denied his request to remain in school another year on January 9, 2026.

So, Chambliss filed a lawsuit.

He made claims that two of his college years while attending Ferris State should not count because he was a victim of medical illnesses regarding respiratory issues, and should have been granted a medical redshirt for a sixth season.

imagn-28222517.jpg

In court on Thursday, Judge Robert Whitwell stated that Chambliss clearly met the criteria to receive a medical redshirt and that the NCAA ignored medical evidence when it denied his waiver.

While at Ferris State, Chambliss won two National Championships in 2022 and 2024. He was named the “Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year” following the 2024 season. At Ole Miss, he won the Conerly Trophy, given out annually to the best college football player in the State of Mississippi, and he was selected Second Team All-ACC.

Currently, the Cardinals’ QB room consists of Kyler Murray, Jacoby Brissett, and Kedon Slovis.

Possible QB prospects include:

  • Round 2, pick #34 – Ty Simpson (Alabama)
  • Round 3, pick #65 – Garrett Nussmeier (LSU)
  • Round 4, pick #104 – Cade Klubnik (Clemson)
  • Round 5, pick # 141 – Drew Allar (Penn State)
  • Round 6, pick #182 – Jalon Daniels (Kansas)
  • Round 7, pick #217 – Cole Payton (North Dakota State)

By comparison, Arizona DE Jordan Burch was the #78 pick in last year’s draft. He signed a four-year deal worth $6.49 million. Chambliss is expected to make between $5 – $8 million in his final year at Ole Miss.

The NCAA has stated it will appeal.

Arizona Cardinals to bring back Nick Rallis as defensive coordinator

While the Arizona Cardinals continued their search for a defensive coordinator, there was always some who believed they may already have him.

Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports is reporting that the Cardinals will retain Nick Rallis as defensive coordinator.

This would be fun, since the beginning of the offseason there have been murmurs that the Arizona Cardinals could possibly, maybe, potentially hold onto Rallis as their defensive coordinator.

Now, national media is reporting it is done.

The #Cardinals are expected to retain Nick Rallis as defensive coordinator under new head coach Mike LaFleur, sources tell @CBSSports.

Sometimes when I get these tidbits handed to me I just don’t think it’s possible, and why I usually leave them in either the comments or buried somewhere in an article, but now it is official.

However, as Uncle Jess and I have discussed before, maybe the belief is that he was so held back and required to run what Jonathan Gannon wanted done, that he can make this work this time.

What are your thoughts the Cardinals bringing Rallis back as DC?
