Capitals vs. Islanders: How the Game Was Won

Last night’s win at UBS Arena was a nice, all-around rebound effort by the team as a whole, and it’s hard to point to just a single turning point that stood out…but it was a game that gave us reassurances that Aliaksei Protas is still, in fact, quite good at hockey. First, he gave the Caps a two-goal lead late in the first. Jakob Chychrun forced a turnover at the Islanders’ blue line and then…

Capitals @ Rangers Game Thread 10/12/25

24 hours after taking two points from the Islanders, the Caps now head across the Hudson to tackle their other New York division rivals, the Rangers – now under the guidance of a familiar face in Mike Sullivan. The Rangers are fresh off a pummeling of Sullivan’s former team last night, setting up what should be a good Sunday evening battle. First, some admin stuff: Updated: Some…

Capitals vs. Lightning Game Thread 10/14/25

Their weekend trip to New York a success, the Caps now return home for the first of four games in DC. The first of these games features an old Southeast Division rival in the Tampa Bay Lightning, who are coming in fresh off a Monday matinee win over the Bruins. First, some admin stuff: Pierre-Luc Dubois left Sunday’s game with a lower-body injury and is day-to-day…

Capitals vs. Lightning: How the Game Was Won

The Washington Capitals might not have gotten off to the best start against the Tampa Bay Lightning last night, but they managed to get their skates under them and complete the comeback in overtime. Goals from Aliaksei Protas and Tom Wilson (on the power play no less) evened things up, and it was Jakob Chychrun who found the back of the net at 3-on-3 to seal the deal. Tom Wilson (1G, 2A) was…

Capitals vs. Wild Recap: Caps Go Wild Against Minnesota in 5-1 Win

After laying a bit of an egg on opening night, the Caps have had a pretty decent start to the year so far – but tonight was easily the best game we’ve seen out of them in this young season, and perhaps well beyond that. They controlled play from start to finish, and were it not for Filip Gustavsson, the score would have been far more lopsided. Pretty great way to break in their new third jerseys…

Capitals vs. Wild: How the Game Was Won

The Capitals put together one of the better performances we’ve seen out of them in quite some time last night, controlling play almost from the drop of the puck and rolling to a 5-1 win. That lopsided final was anything but guaranteed, however, as the game remained close through the first two periods. After peppering Minnesota goalie Filip Gustavsson with 20+ shots, the Caps had only one goal…

Capitals vs. Canucks Game Thread 10/19/25

Fresh off their dominant win over the Wild on Friday night, the Caps now face another opponent visiting from out west, as the Canucks are in town for a Sunday matinee. The Caps will look to keep their winning streak rolling and fend off the Sunday scaries. First, some admin stuff: Pierre-Luc Dubois isn’t quite ready and is headed to the IR for now, so expect roughly the same lineup…

Capitals vs. Canucks Recap: Comeback Falls Short in 4-3 Loss

The Sunday Scaries hit the Washington Capitals hard early on this matinee game, giving up struggling Vancouver star Elias Pettersson’s first goal of the season less than a minute into the game, giving the Canucks a lead that would expand by 3 more goals by the second period. Washington would chip away at the lead with a late period Ryan Leonard PPG in the second, and would find themselves in…

Capitals vs. Canucks: How the Game Was Lost

One could make the argument that yesterday’s game was lost less than one minute into the game, when Elias Pettersson put the Canucks up 1-0 at :59 of the first period. Hell, one could make the argument it was lost the second the puck dropped, because one team was ready to go and one team was decidedly not. Amazingly, it was the more rested team that fell into that latter category…

Capitals vs. Kraken Game Thread 10/21/25

Sunday’s game against the Canucks was…not great. So the Caps will certainly be looking to turn the tide after a disappointing loss and wrap things up at home on a high note before a one-game jaunt up to Columbus this weekend. They’ll face a Seattle team that has been solid to start the season but is coming in fresh off their own disappointing loss just up I-95 in Philly last night.

Capitals vs. Kraken: How the Game Was Won

The Capitals bounced back after a tough game (well, more like a tough first period) against the Vancouver Canucks and took it to a tired Seattle Kraken team winning 4-1. The boys in red came out strong but were only able to score one goal in first period after a pretty passing play from Brandon Duhaime to John Carlson who faked a shot in the slot before sliding the puck down to Nic Dowd at…
