RSS Canadiens Team Notes

After a much-needed holiday break, the Montreal Canadiens resumed their road trip on Sunday night in Florida against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Bad bounces and broken sticks saw them down 3-0 going into the third period, and it felt like they were going to lose despite a pretty good overall showing through 40 minutes. Instead, they orchestrated a thrilling comeback, forcing overtime and taking one…

Canada had its wake-up in the second game of the tournament when Latvia scored a goal late in regulation to force overtime. Canada came away with the win, but that match probably made Denmark’s dream of pulling off an upset less likely with the Canadian team already being taught the lesson that you can’t take any team lightly. At the 3:08 mark of the first period, Denmark took its first…

The victory brought them to a 17-17-3 record, and reaching that .500 point percentage benchmark was a sign of the progress that the team had made.

3) If it means more of what we saw in the final five minutes, it’s hard to argue against the logic 2) Lots of interesting info (check the original for the links) 1) Might as well get the bulk pack…

Hockey Canada has revealed its roster for the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games. Nick Suzuki is one of the 25 players who have been named to the Men’s National Team. There had been a lot of debate about Nick Suzuki making Team Canada given how well he has produced over the past couple of seasons. He completed the 2024-25 campaign with 89 points, and is on pace to beat that this…

The 20th and final game of the 2026 World Juniors’ preliminary round, Canada and Finland took to the ice in Minneapolis with top spot in Group B on the line. The winner would earn the easiest path through the playoff round on its quest for a gold medal. It didn’t take long for the game to get its first goal. Zayne Parekh, who has been one of Canada’s best players all tournament long…

Nice to see Suzuki get the Team Canada nod for the Olympics. He's been quietly putting together some really solid seasons and the 89 points last year definitely made it hard to leave him off the roster. Should be interesting to see how he fits in with that group.

The Habs seem to be finding their footing on this road trip too. Getting three points out of two games against Eastern Conference opponents is solid work, especially right after the Christmas break when teams can sometimes come out a bit sluggish.

That World Juniors game against Finland sounds like it was a good one. Parekh has been fun to watch this tournament - the kid has a real offensive instinct from the blue line.

Looking forward to seeing how the Carolina game goes tonight. The Hurricanes are always a tough matchup but Montreal's been playing with some confidence lately.

One more player from the Montreal Canadiens will not be getting a mid-season vacation this year. With roster decisions for the 2026 Olympic hockey tournament coming in this week, Oliver Kapanen has been selected to represent Finland when the NHL goes to Italy. Kapanen has put together a very impressive rookie season in the NHL, which obviously caught the attention of Finland’s brass.

The fourth quarter-final of the 2026 World Juniors featured Canada taking on Slovakia. As Group B winners, Canada was the favourite, but the Slovaks had provided proper tests to some other gold medal contenders leading up to the match. The Canadians had the better start to the game, registering the first four shots on net with the line of Michael Hage, Gavin McKenna, and Brady Martin working…

Frankly, I should know better. For almost 16 years, Marie-Philip Poulin has made a career of it. When the moment gets tough, she meets the moment. Since 2015, I have watched her at the professional level and obviously her international exploits are well known. So when the Montreal Victoire were staring down a fourth regulation loss in a row, a stretch that saw them fall to last place in…
