News Canadiens Team Notes

The Montreal Canadiens opened the on-ice portion of training camp on Thursday with a practice for Group A, followed by a scrimmage between Groups B and C. While it is still very early in camp, the groups can tend to give us some insight as to how the team is planning to look this season. In Group A, Kirby Dach, Ivan Demidov, and Patrik Laine were all included…

We’re over halfway through September, the Top 25 Under 25 has been released, pre-season begins, and a new Montreal Canadiens season is upon us. The season where expectations have risen, especially with Ivan Demidov here. We’ll have time to dig in analytically soon, but first, how are you feeling? For me, the summer was a contrast of difficulty in other areas and amazing time with my…

Patrik Laine changed the course of the 2024-25 Montreal Canadiens. No, not by scoring goals seemingly at will during his first 10 games in a Habs sweater (although that certainly did help), but by bumping Josh Anderson down onto the third line with Christian Dvorak and Brendan Gallagher. Whether he (or anyone) knew it or not, Laine’s presence in the lineup had just created a critical…

The Montreal Canadiens will play their first game of the 2025-26 pre-season tonight against the Pittsburgh Penguins, and we will get our first look at Noah Dobson in a Canadiens uniform. He will be paired with Mike Matheson, but there’s something very interesting brewing on the expected top line for Monday’s game. Patrik Laine and Ivan Demidov will have Oliver Kapanen was a centre. Now…

On Tuesday night, the Montreal Canadiens announced that they had returned Owen Protz to the Brantford Bulldogs of the OHL. Protz had been in Montreal since joining the prospects for rookie camp. He didn’t get into any NHL pre-season games, but he did have the experience of playing in the Prospect Showdown and felt the atmosphere of two pre-season games at the Bell Centre.

Improving to 2-0 on their preseason calendar, the Montreal Canadiens took a 4-2 decision over the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night at the Bell Centre. Both Xhekaj brothers found the mark with their mother in attendance, and the Habs looked to have a little more jump than the group that skated the night prior. Perhaps some of that had to do with their top line of Nick Suzuki…

Before he came in relief of Samuel Montembeault on Monday night in his NHL pre-season debut, Montreal Canadiens goaltending prospect Jacob Fowler got the full Bell Centre treatment at the Rookie Showdown. Fowler, who grew up a Canadiens fan, was in the hallway hearing “Fix You” coming out of the arena, and a sold-out crowd of over 21,000 fans was cheering. It wasn’t quite a regular season…

The injury is the latest blow for Reinbacher, who has struggled to stay healthy since being the fifth overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft. The good news is that this is a relatively straightforward recovery…
