Taj Gibson on Chicago Bulls practices under former coach: “It was hell”

Taj Gibson Chicago Bulls

As the Chicago Bulls usher in their rebuild for the 2026 offseason, the franchise is finally heading into a direction they needed to years ago. It’s clear that there is need to go into this direction. But even so, there was a time where this franchise had a window to potentially win a title.

That was over 10 years ago.

The times have changed but the stories that come out from that era of Bulls’ basketball are still pretty good. The latest is from Taj Gbson, and his early time with the Bulls under Tom Thibodeau.

Taj Gibson calls practices under Thibs’ “hell”

Former Bulls draft pick Taj Gibson is still going strong, signing a deal with the Memphis Grizzlies recently. While his career is coming to an end soon, Gibson has had some time reminisce about his early days for the Bulls. Gibson was the No. 26 pick in the 2009 NBA Draft for the Bulls and had a lengthy career in Chicago.

He appeared on the “All The Smoke” podcast with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson where he talked about the Thibodeau era and practices via Bleacher Nation:

“It was hell. Because you think about, we got a young Thibs. Imagine Thibs back then. You think he was tough now, imagine him back then. We didn’t have no regulations, we didn’t have no strict timing. No large training staffs. So then, you’re dealing with the Thibs factor. And Thibs is that guy. He’s gassing the situation up every day, ‘Oh you’re gonna let the first team destroy you guys again? You guys [are] getting thrown around like rag dolls!’
“And then you’ve got Carlos, in the back of his mind, he’s hearing the chatter. Joakim is the biggest s— talker in the whole NBA. Every day he’s clapping, ‘Yeah, T.G., you all not doing nothing today.’ And a couple times, I tried to fight him. I was like, ‘Yo.’ And that’s how it had to be. Every time in practice, we went at it. We tried to fight, we tried to scrap because we had to go against guys like y’all, the Clippers, we had to go against the top of the top every day. It was no holds barred.”

That’s awesome to hear.

We know how intense Thibs was in his time with the Bulls but hearing these stories are still pretty awesome.

Chicago Bulls trade fan favorite guard to Minnesota Timberwolves

The Chicago Bulls appear to be going all in on a rebuild. After making several trades the past few days, Chicago was busy early on Thursday morning just hours before the NBA’s Trade Deadline.

Chicago moved guard Coby White to Charlotte on Wednesday and now they are sending Ayo Dosunmu to the Minnesota Timberwolves. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported the move early Thursday morning.

Leading into this deadline, the rumors swirled that Chicago would look to move both White and Dosunmu. Chicago was hoping for at least a first round pick in return for one of the guards. Instead, they end up with more second round picks and another guard in the deal.

Charania is reporting that the Bulls will send Dosunmu and Julian Phillips to Minnesota for Rob Dillingham, Leonard Miller and four second-round picks in future drafts. That’s lower than the rumored compensation the Bulls were hoping to get with Dosunmu earlier in the week.

For Chicago, it’s clear they are tearing this down and trying to get into the lottery. But is it too late in the season to tank?

The NBA’s trade deadline is Thursday at 3 p.m. ET.

The Chicago Bulls have been very active at the 2026 NBA Trade Deadline, moving on from key players like Nikola Vucevic and Coby White. With the Bulls making a few moves in the past few days, it signals what their plan is for the rest of the season.

Chicago is obviously ready to go in a new direction and try to rebuild while acquiring young talent. They haven’t landed a first-round pick, which would help, but they continue to trade off assets. And they likely aren’t done yet.

Right after the Bulls shipped White off to Hornets, a new report suggests they are ready to move on from more players.

Chicago Bulls set to move more guards?

As it stands right now, the Bulls have seven guards on the roster. That’s obviously going to change. It’s not feasible to go the rest of the season with that much guard depth.

The Chicago Sun-Times’ Joe Cowley tweeted that a trio of guards are still trade candidates:

Ayo Dosunmu, and newly-acquired guards Collin Sexton and Anfernee Simons are still trade candidates, per source. The Bulls still feel like they have a lot of work to do … now and carrying on into July.

— Joe Cowley (@JCowleyHoops) February 4, 2026

That makes a lot of sense. Dosunmu’s name has been in trade talks the past few days with the New York Knicks being a team that has been connected to him already. The price tag for Dosunmu is believed to be higher than White and ideally the Bulls would land a first-round pick. </p>

As for Sexton and Simons, both are on expiring deals. Chicago could look to dump them now and try to get any sort of asset back. Whatever happens, the Bulls need to be aggressive and stay in the rebuild lane. But with this management, it’s never really simple.

The NBA’s trade deadline is Thursday at 3 p.m. ET.

Chicago Bulls-Charlotte Hornets trade leaves more questions than answers

Cleveland Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen (31) and Chicago Bulls guard Coby White

With less than a day remaining till the NBA Trade Deadline, the Chicago Bulls have been one of the more active teams over the past couple of days.

More News: Chicago Bulls expected to make quick decision on new trade acquisition

Trading away their veteran center, Nikola Vucevic, to the Boston Celtics for shooting guard Anfernee Simmons and a second-round pick, the Bulls made yet another move, trading guards Coby White and Mike Conley Jr. to the Charlotte Hornets for guard Colin Sexton, forward Ousmane Dieng, and three second-round picks, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

White had spent his entire seven-year career with the Bulls after they drafted him in the first round (seventh overall) in 2019, and has scored 15.4 points, 3.9 assists, and 3.7 rebounds. Sexton, this season with the Hornets (42 games), had scored 14.2 points per game, 1.9 rebounds, and 3.7 assists.

Trading White was always enviable. White will be an unrestricted free agent after this season, and the Bulls were never able to extend him due to the 140% rule. However, this trade is perplexing, as Sexton is also a free agent after this season and is making more than White ($18.975 million), who is making $12.888 million.

White has been on the trade block for two seasons and is having another solid year (18.6 points per game and 4.7 assists) after having a breakout season (20.4 points and 4.5 assists) in 2024-25. With his stock rising, it’s hard to see why the Bulls and their front office didn’t find a better package of players and picks to acquire White and Conley Jr.

With the trade deadline expiring at 3 p.m. on Friday, the Bulls still have possible moves they could make with the stockpile of picks they have acquired, which could signal they may make a play for the Milwaukee Bucks Giannis Antetokounmpo, but that remains to be seen.

Chicago Bulls expected to make quick decision on new trade acquisition

Mike Conley Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls were busy on Tuesday afternoon, making two deals just a few days before the NBA Trade Deadline on Thursday. While the second move included the Bulls finally moving Nikola Vucevic, it was a move earlier in the day that might tip the team’s future plans.

Chicago was able to acquire guards Jaden Ivey and Mike Conley in a three-team deal with Detroit and Minnesota. Ivey is a former lottery pick that is on the final year of his rookie deal and could be in the Bulls’ plans depending on how healthy he is and how well he plays. But for Conley, he’s the veteran in the deal and it sounds like he won’t be in Chicago for long.

Chicago Bulls don’t have plans to keep Mike Conley

The 38-year-old Conley is on the wrong side of his 30’s and likely has a few years left in his career. So for him, getting to a contender makes a lot more sense than staying with Chicago. Now, hours after the trade, the latest report suggests Conley won’t be in Chicago much longer.

Per Chris Haynes, Conley isn’t expected to stick with the Chicago Bulls. Both sides will work on proper path to move forward. Conley will be a target for a team in need of point guard depth.

It makes a lot of sense for the Bulls to buy out Conley as he’s on an expiring deal. That would benefit both sides as the Bulls are looking to get younger and Conley can be a key depth piece for a contender.

Now we wait to see what the Bulls do to try and make things right with Conley.

NASCAR drivers are noticing Michael Jordan’s impact in sport

Michael Jordan 23XI Racing

Michael Jordan found a lot of success on the basketball court, being considered the greatest to ever play the game. But in life after basketball, Jordan is now finding success in another sport.

Jordan is a co-owner of the 23XI Racing team along with Denny Hamlin and to start the 2026 NASCAR season, one of his drivers, Tyler Reddick won three-of-four races. Reddick won the first three races of the season before finishing eighth in Phoenix on Sunday. Overall, it was a good day for 23XI who also had Bubba Wallace placing sixth.

But before the race began, one driver made sure to note how much Jordan is impacting NASCAR.

Brad Keselowski approves of Michael Jordan in NASCAR

Ahead of the season, Jordan and 23XI settled on an antitrust lawsuit against NASCAR in December 2025. That was a win for 23XI Racing as Jordan was a prominent figure in the hearings.

Now, drivers are starting to notice the impact Jordan is having on the sport. Here is what Brad Keselowski had to say when asked about that ahead of the race in Phoenix.

“Yeah, I mean it’s hard to argue against Michael having a positive influence on the sport,” Keselowski said. “I love the fact that he’s so engaged and at the races. I just can’t emphasize enough how important that is, not just Michael, but for any of the key stakeholders to just have physical presence at the racetrack. That’s for all levels.

“So for him to have physical presence, a testament for his fortitude for being a part of the sport. Because, lets face it, although he’s won the first three races, he’s lost a lot more. As every car owner will, it’s not a dig on him. If I’m a guy like him, personally, and I say ‘Where do I want to be today?’ And I know that I have less than a 10 percent chance of winning, flying my butt all across the country when I have all the things that Michael has, it probably something that takes me a minute to emotionally justify. But he does. I’ll give him a lot of respect and credit for that.”

Jordan has been to all four races this season and with the success that his team is having, we can expect more races for Jordan to attend this season.

It’s also awesome to see drivers notice that and respect that with Jordan.

Bulls’ Coby White Gets Honest Amid Swirling Trade Rumors

Chicago Bulls Coby White

The Chicago Bulls have been extremely active on the trade market over the last 48 hours. At this point in time, it doesn’t sound like that activity is going to slow down before the Thursday afternoon trade deadline.

On Tuesday, the Bulls made two different trades.

First, the team agreed to terms on a three-team deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Detroit Pistons. Chicago acquired young guard Jaden Ivey from the Pistons and veteran point guard Mike Conley from the Timberwolves. The Bulls gave up both Kevin Huerter and Dario Saric in the deal.

After that deal was made, Chicago swung a second trade with the Boston Celtics. This time, Nikola Vucevic and a second-round pick were sent out in exchange for Anfernee Simons and a second-round pick.

Now, the question remains, are the Bulls done dealing? That doesn’t seem likely. Coby White is widely expected to be traded before the deadline.

Despite the rumors connecting him to leaving Chicago, White spoke out with honesty about wanting to remain with the Bulls moving forward.

“I’m trying to focus on the game, but obviously, there’s a lot of stuff going on. It’s hard not to think about, but it’s tough…Obviously, I want to be here. I love my teammates. But I been saying this (as long as) ya’ll been asking me: the front office is gonna do what they think is best for the team.”

So far this season with Chicago, White has played in 29 games and made 26 starts. He has averaged 18.6 points per game to go along with 4.7 assists, 3.7 rebounds, and 0.7 steals, while shooting 43.8 percent from the floor and 34.6 percent from the three-point line.

Only time will tell if the Bulls do decide to trade White. That scenario seems likely, especially with the amount of guard talent Chicago has on its roster.

Expect to continue hearing rumors swirling around the Bulls ahead of the deadline. White’s name will be connected to a lot of those rumors.

Chicago Bulls New Direction for 2026

Billy Donovan, Chicago Bulls

Chicago feels like it hit the big red reset button, then kept pressing it just to be sure. The Bulls didn’t just “tweak” around the edges at the deadline. They ended up with a roster that looks younger and faster.

Chicago is sitting at 25-37, which puts them deep in the East pack. That record also matches what you’ll see across the major stat trackers, which is basically another way of saying the season hasn’t been kind, even before the roster got flipped.

But the more interesting story isn’t the record. It’s the direction. The Bulls’ deadline week was turbulent with big names out, new guards in, draft picks and seconds piling up. Ok, so who is playing where?

The Trade Deadline Week

The NBA trade deadline for the 2025/26 season landed on Feb. 5th and by the time the dust settled, the Bulls had moved multiple rotation guys and pulled in a collection of guards, young prospects, and new picks. One move set the tone: Nikola Vučević out. That’s not a small thing. He had been the most stable player who is big for Chicago for years, and Boston came calling.

Vučević to Boston and the Simons Swing

Boston acquired Nikola Vučević from the Bulls in exchange for Anfernee Simons, with second round pick pieces attached on both sides. The NBA is reporting on the deal, saying that Boston added more frontline options, while noting both players were headed toward free agency in the summer.

Chicago traded their veteran center because they’re shifting toward a newer, younger direction. They brought in Simons because he can score a lot and explode for big nights. But the obvious risk is that giving up a true center can leave you exposed near the basket, rebounding, rim defense, and defending bigger teams, until you find another reliable big man.

In the Stake NBA promotions, Chicago sits in the pure longshot section, the part of the board that’s basically reserved for teams that would need a perfect storm just to sniff a deep run. For the NBA 2025/26 Outright Winner, Stake has the Chicago Bulls at 5,001.00.

That number is massive for a reason: it’s the market telling you the Bulls are not priced like a contender, they’re priced like a team where anything can happen, but they’re probably not the winning team. In the Eastern Conference Winner outright market on Stake, Chicago is listed at 2,001.00, which still puts them way out in the distance compared to the true East favorites.

So the realistic prediction isn’t a title chase, but the evaluation season. Chicago’s best case path is a late surge that makes games annoying for better teams, plus enough progress from the new group to go into summer with a clear core. The odds don’t expect a miracle run; they expect a team still building its next version.

The Three Team Shuffle That Landed Ivey and Conley

The Bulls acquired Jaden Ivey from Detroit and Mike Conley Jr. from Minnesota in a three team deal, while sending Kevin Huerter and Dario Šarić to the Pistons. Detroit received Huerter and Šarić, Chicago received Conley and Ivey, and Minnesota’s role was tied to the broader cap. Media reports emphasized that Chicago was the landing spot for Ivey and Conley, with Detroit taking back the wing shooting.

Ivey is the kind of buy low swing rebuilding teams love. If it clicks, you’ve got a young guard with juice. If it doesn’t, you haven’t chained yourself to a long term contract that ruins your summer. Conley, meanwhile, looked more like a “routing” piece than a long term fit, and the obvious Chicago’s financial motivations after getting him.

Coby White Out, Sexton In and More Seconds Added

Chicago Bulls Coby White

The Bulls didn’t stop there. Chicago also sent Coby White and Mike Conley Jr. to Charlotte in exchange for Collin Sexton and three future second round picks. This wasn’t just player for player exchange; it’s clear that Chicago is stacking second rounders like they’re planning to use them as trade grease later.

Ousmane Dieng was acquired by Charlotte from Oklahoma City as part of the mechanics, then rerouted amid the chain of transactions. This is where deadline week gets messy: one deal bleeds into another, and suddenly a player is technically on three teams in a day.

Sexton is a different flavor than White, but he’s still in that “guard who can score” zone. That zone is extremely full in Chicago right now.

Ayo Dosunmu Heads to Minnesota, Dillingham Comes Back

The most emotional move for a lot of Bulls fans was Ayo Dosunmu getting moved. Minnesota acquired Dosunmu and Julian Phillips, while Chicago received Rob Dillingham, Leonard Miller, and four future second round picks.

So, what is the plan behind this move? First, the Bulls are willing to cash in a homegrown guy if the return includes a young guard prospect they like. Second, the Bulls are hoarding second round picks like they’re planning a busy draft weekend for the next three years.

Also, yes: more guards.

The Nick Richards Deal

After you trade a real center (Vučević), you don’t want to leave the season with undersized lineups. Chicago addressed that by acquiring center Nick Richards as part of a three team structure involving Milwaukee and Phoenix. In the final version, Phoenix received Cole Anthony and Amir Coffey, Milwaukee received Nigel Hayes-Davis and Ousmane Dieng, and Chicago received Nick Richards.

Richards isn’t a “save the franchise” type of center, but he’s a real big body, and right now Chicago needs functional size more than it needs another 6’3” scorer. Even if he’s just a stopgap, he at least makes the roster look like an NBA roster again.

One More Move That Signals the Theme

Chicago also picked up Guerschon Yabusele from the Knicks in exchange for Dalen Terry. It’s not the headline grabber compared to the other deals, but it fits the pattern of trying different frontcourt pieces, staying flexible, and just keeps cycling until something sticks.

What Are the Bulls Now?

This is the tricky part. Chicago looks like a team that’s rebuilding but rebuilding with a tempo. They didn’t just sell off veterans for one potential future star pick and call it a day. They grabbed multiple young ish players who can handle, shoot, and attack, then flooded the roster with options.

The result is a team that can look like a mishmash of everything in the short term. In one game you’ll see a guard get hot and make everything look easy. The next game you’ll see the same team struggle to rebound, struggle to defend bigger lineups, and give up second chance points. That’s basically the trade off: fun offense pops up, but the structure gets shaky.

Local fans and online communities, as well as media reports around the league have been blunt about it too, describing Chicago as a rebuilding team with a roster skewed toward guards after a flurry of deadline acquisitions by specifically naming additions like Rob Dillingham, Jaden Ivey, Collin Sexton, and Anfernee Simons.

The Injury Situation Is Not Helping

As if the roster wasn’t already shaky enough, the Bulls have been carrying a real injury list. Josh Giddey and Matas Buzelis are listed as questionable with ankle sprains, while Jaden Ivey and Anfernee Simons are out, along with Zach Collins and Noa Essengue, and both Patrick Williams and Jalen Smith are suffering leg injuries. That’s a long list and a brutal combo for a team trying to build chemistry.

A new roster needs reps. Injuries steal reps, and then the identity crisis begins to set in. Josh Giddey And Matas Buzelis Are in the Thick of It

When a team shifts direction midseason, the clearest sign is who gets the ball, who gets the minutes, and who gets treated like the long term plan.

Giddey has been the connector type for a while: big guard, playmaking instincts, can run an offense in a way that makes everyone else’s life easier. When he’s out or limited, Chicago’s new choice of guards becomes less organized and more like a bunch of guys taking turns.

Buzelis is the other big piece, and he’s the kind of forward who makes the rebuild make sense because he’s not just a project. He can produce, and he’s big enough to matter on a roster that’s suddenly not exactly loaded with wings.

This is why injuries of crucial players feel extra annoying. If you want the Bulls to have a clear identity by April, you need the guys you’re building around on the floor.

What the Deadline Tells Us About the Front Office Plan

The Bulls’ deadline pattern is pretty clear when you zoom out. They prioritized flexibility. Multiple deals brought in future second round picks, and even the player additions tend to be the kind of contracts you can move again. They look like they’re just trying a bunch of different things in a very short span, which can look messy now, but can pay off if one or two guys pop and become a real long term part of the team.

It looks like Chicago is situating itself financially while adding draft capital, with the flurry of moves. Are they scrambling, or is this a planned change? Even if you disagree with every individual trade grade, that general theme of the team trying out a completely different roster is hard to argue.

The Free Agency Signals Are Already Starting

Even though free agency isn’t here yet, rumors and early reporting have started painting a picture of what Chicago might look for next. One report described early signals that Chicago could be looking at wings, including restricted free agents, which fits perfectly with the most obvious need on the current roster of more size and more two way wing play.

Right now the Bulls are investing a lot in guards. However, if they are looking for any meaningful results, they’re going to need extra bodies at the 2 and 3 to survive the modern NBA. This is especially important in the East where they’ll be constantly dealing with long defenders and big forwards.

Chicago’s Place in the NBA Week

The league’s deadline recap was loaded with major moves across contenders and rebuilders, and it’s part of why Chicago’s approach stands out: they weren’t chasing one final piece. They were reloading the whole team.

That also means the Bulls are going to be judged differently. Nobody is expecting them to become top four seeds overnight. What people will watch is whether the young players start to fit, and whether the roster starts to make sense by the end of the season.

The Rest of the Season Is About Experiments, Not Miracles

With a 25-37 record, the Bulls aren’t in a place where one hot week changes the whole narrative. But the stretch run can still make a difference. It’s a time when Chicago would find out which combinations work, which players are keepers, and which guys look like they belong in the next version of the team.

The frustrating part is that injuries can make the team look very different to fans. When Simons is out, when Ivey is out, when Giddey is questionable, you’re not really seeing the intended version of the roster. But you can still learn things, especially about the young guys and the frontcourt rotation.

The Bulls Are Building a New Identity

Chicago’s season right now is a weird mix of fresh start energy and midseason mayhem. They moved a major veteran center to Boston, brought in Anfernee Simons, swung for Jaden Ivey in a three team shuffle, flipped Coby White, moved Ayo Dosunmu, and stacked a pile of second round picks while trying to patch the frontcourt with Nick Richards and Yabusele.

That’s a definition of the team trying to find the next version of itself, fast. To watch the Bulls this season, fans shouldn’t obsess over single game results. Watch the minutes. Watch who closes. Watch which pairings keep showing up. And watch whether the injury list finally chills out long enough for the new pieces to play real basketball together.

Because the Bulls have made their choice: the old era is gone. Now it’s about what grows in its place.

Chicago Bulls announce unfortunate news after Nikola Vucevic trade

The Chicago Bulls’ Nikola Vucevic era is officially over. This is after the Bulls agreed to trade the two-time All-Star to the Boston Celtics in exchange for Anfernee Simons. Vucevic leaves Chicago after six seasons with the team. In 378 games played for the Bulls, the 6-foot-9 center averaged 18.1 points on 49.9% shooting, 10.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 32.8 minutes per contest. Vucevic also knocked down 1.6 triples per game on a 34.9% clip.

The Bulls just gave up their starting center for a 6-foot-3 shooting guard. This means that the Bulls will need to fill a massive void in their frontcourt now that Vucevic is out of the picture for good.

Chicago Bulls center Nikola Vucevic (9)

Chicago Bulls center Nikola Vucevic (9) walks off the court after an NBA game against the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Bulls were in action on Wednesday against the Milwaukee Bucks. Chicago got Jalen Smith back after a two-game absence due to a calf injury. The 25-year-old took Vucevic’s spot in the starting lineup. Smith finished with 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting, five rebounds and one assist in 20 minutes of action.

It was far from enough to help lift Chicago, though. They suffered another blowout loss, 131-115. This defeat follows Sunday’s embarrassing 134-91 loss against the Miami Heat.

Chicago Bulls coach Billy Donovan shares troubling Zach Collins update

Zach Collins emerged as an important figure for the Bulls after the Vucevic trade. The 6-foot-9 center was Vucevic’s primary backup before Collins got injured. After missing the first six weeks of the NBA season due to a wrist injury, Collins sprained his right big toe in December. The 28-year-old big man has been out of commission since.

The Bulls need Collins back now that Vucevic has moved on. At this point, Chicago only has Smith and rookie Lachlan Olbrich as their primary frontcourt players. The bad news for the Bulls is that Collins has no firm timetable for his return. In fact, head coach Billy Donovan announced on Tuesday that Collins, who has played just 10 games this season, could be out for the rest of the way.

‘‘That could happen,” Donovan responded when asked about Collins sitting out the rest of the campaign. “As they put him two more weeks into the boot, I think how he comes out of that is going to tell a lot. He’s going to need a ramp-up period in order to run. … The whole thing right now has been trying to prevent surgery.’

‘‘When he comes out of the boot, would there be a runway for him to play? ‘He’s doing everything he can to play, wants to play, but can he get healed in time? That’s going to be the biggest question.’’

To be clear, the Bulls have not ruled out the possibility of Collins’ return this season. However, Donovan’s most recent update is far from encouraging.

The Bulls will be back in action on Thursday. They close out their current four-game road trip with a matchup against the Toronto Raptors at Scotiabank Arena. Chicago enters that contest with a 24-27 record. As of writing, they are 10th in the Eastern Conference.

Chicago Bulls land former lottery pick in three team NBA trade

Jaden ivey Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls have been in the rumor mill as the 2026 NBA trade deadline is rapidly approaching. On Tuesday, they made a deal as part of a three-team trade, just an hour after another shocking NBA trade went down.

Per Shams Charania, the Bulls are acquiring Mike Conley Jr. and Jaden Ivey while sending Kevin Huerter and Dario Saric to the Detroit Pistons. The Pistons also received a 2026 first-round protected swap from Minnesota.

The Bulls acquired Saric in a trade over the weekend with the Sacramento Kings, also netting them two second-round picks. Huerter was acquired by Chicago at the 2025 trade deadline from Sacramento in the Zach LaVine deal.

In the trade, the Bulls acquired two guards including former lottery pick in 2022, Jaden Ivey. He was the No. 5 overall selection by the Detroit Pistons and at the time considered a key piece of their core.

He’s in the final season of a four-year, $33 million contract he signed as a rookie and is set to become a restricted free agent this offseaso if the Bulls pick up the qualifying offer.

Ivey has flashed potential and was having a breakout season in 2024-25 before suffering a broken fibula that ended his season in early 2025. He was averaging 17.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and four assists in roughly 30 minutes per game

This season, Ivey is averaging 8.2 points and 1.6 assists while playing in 16.8 minutes per game. He’s started two games so far.

Chicago Bulls injury report versus Giannis Antetokounmpo-less Bucks

Chicago Bulls, Bulls injury report

The Chicago Bulls may be just 24-26 on the year so far, but they have fought their way up to ninth place in the NBA Eastern Conference. This means, of course, that they are in the NBA Playoffs picture, for now, as a possible play-in tournament team.

They can increase their lead over the lowly Milwaukee Bucks, who are just 18-29, when they face off against each other on Tuesday night. Indeed, Milwaukee has been one of the most disappointing teams in the NBA this season. They have gone from perennial playoff contenders to the laughing stock of the league in short order amid constant trade rumors as well.

Unfortunately for the Bulls, they are going to be considerably short-handed when they face the Bucks on Tuesday night. The good news, though, is that Milwaukee has had trouble beating short-handed teams this season.

Bulls injury report

  • Zach Collins (toe sprain): Out
  • Noa Essengue (shoulder surgery): Out
  • Josh Giddey (hamstring strain): Out
  • Kevin Huerter (back spasms): Questionable
  • Tre Jones (hamstring strain): Out
  • Julian Phillips (wrist sprain): Questionable
  • Dario Saric (not with team): Out
  • Jalen Smith (calf injury management): Questionable

Josh Giddey, as one can see, is still dealing with the hamstring strain that caused him to miss 11 consecutive games in January. It is still possible, though, that Kevin Huerter, Julian Phillips, and Jalen Smith still play.

Bucks injury report

  • Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf strain): Out
  • Alex Antetokounmpo (G-League/two-way): Out
  • Taurean Prince (neck surgery): Out
  • Gary Harris (hamstring strain): Out
  • Kevin Porter Jr. (oblique strain): Out
  • Bobby Portis (hip contusion): Questionable

Of course, Chicago is not going to have to face Giannis Antetokounmpo, who is out for an undetermined period of time with a calf strain.

What is interesting to note is that former Bulls star Bobby Portis was added to their injury report today with a hip injury. Typically their Sixth Man, Portis has had to start games as of late due to Giannis’ injury.

If Portis cannot play, Chicago will have yet another advantage in the front court.

Insider hints Chicago Bulls have interest in Pacers guard

USATSI_28132351-1200x600.jpg

The NBA’s trade deadline is still two days away and while the big rumors surround Giannis Antetokounmpo and where he will play next, the Chicago Bulls continue to be in rumors. Right now, it’s hard to see what direction the Bulls are going to go as they are currently in ninth place in the Eastern Conference.

Ideally, they would trade some players and get some assets back for a rebuild. But there have also been reports that the Bulls are looking to add some young players to try and build around and go for the playoffs this year.

The latest is Bulls insider K.C. Johnson.

The CHSN reporter is a veteran on the beat and has inside information that we all should listen to. On a recent episode of “The Fast Break”, Johnson revealed some insight into the Bulls’ potential plans.

“Let me just emphasize: this stretch is not influencing management’s thinking,” Johnson cautioned about Chicago’s latest run. He went on to then say they are looking for some young players still on rookie deals.

Chicago Bulls could be interested in Bennedict Mathurin

A name that Johnson mentioned was in Chicago’s division as guard Bennedict Mathurin could be a fit for the Bulls. Here is what Johnson had to say about that idea.

“The word around the league is they are interested in some young, athletic names,” Johnson said. “The way I would probably phrase it is, you look at teams that have players on rookie-scale contracts that are not currently working out for their current teams, whether that’s [Yves] Missi in New Orleans [or] Mathurin in Indiana…”

The 23-year-old Mathurin is a former lottery pick who thrived in his role as sixth man for the Pacers last season. He helped the Pacers get to the NBA Finals where they lost in Game 7 to the Oklahoma City Thunder. He flashed as a guard in the Pacers’ offense but this season has been a different story as he’s been dealing with injuries.

He’s averaging 17.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game this season. He’s shooting 43 percent from the field and 38 percent from the three-point line.

Taking a chance on a young player like Mathurin isn’t the worst idea for the Bulls, especially if they can do it without giving up valuable assets. There’s also a chance the Bulls could move off of Coby White or Ayo Dosunmu, which would make Mathurin a reasonable target.

Chicago Bulls star ready for the team to take that next step into contention

Chicago Bulls center Nikola Vucevic (9) looks on during the first half against the Portland Trail Blazers

The Chicago Bulls have been essentially running in mud for the last handful of seasons, failing to make the postseason after a rough stretch in the play-in tournament. That type of heartbreaking loss with a ceiling could affect the mindset of the team. One Chicago player seemingly vented his frustrations about being stuck in the play-in tournament every season. Let’s take a closer look at the comments and why he said it.

Nikola Vucevic is ready for the Chicago Bulls to not be stagnant anymore

Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times wrote an article with Nikola Vucevic’s comments regarding the team following their 134-91 road loss to the Miami Heat on Sunday. In the quote, Vucevic is frustrated with the lateral movement of the franchise over the last three years.

“I think that there are certain things that this team needs to take the next step… You know it’s not fun when you’re in the same position year after year, and especially when you can’t get out of that play-in, you get stuck behind Miami every time.”

These are some pointed words as the Bulls have been in the Eastern Conference play-in tournament for each of the previous three seasons, but have not made the playoffs since the 2021-22 season. Whether this is a call for the front office to be aggressive and take a direction to be buyers or sellers or if this is just Vucevic venting some frustration about the state of the team, this is a cry that Bulls fans have been dealing with.

Could this just be Vucevic essentially burning the bridge and voicing his frustrations ahead of the NBA trade deadline? Sure, but it gives an insight into the locker room being upset with the way things are going in Chicago at this moment. It appears that in one way or another, it is time for some change for the Bulls.

Chicago Bulls take SEC forward in ESPN mock draft ahead of March Madness

Chicago Bulls, Tennessee Volunteers, Nate Ament

The Chicago Bulls are looking to take a massive step forward in the offseason, currently slated to have a top 10 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. While there are a myriad of different ways the team can be looking at the players in this class, there are some intriguing options. Let’s take a look at one mock draft ahead of March Madness and who they have the Bulls selecting.

The Chicago Bulls select Tennessee forward Nate Ament in ESPN’s mock draft

Tennessee Volunteers, Nate Ament, Chicago Bulls

Tennessee forward Nate Ament (10) leads a fast break against Auburn during their Day 2 2026 SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament game at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn., Thursday, March 12, 2026.

The Bulls are slated to currently land the ninth pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. A lot of mock drafts have differing opinions on which player Chicago could be targeting at that spot. ESPN’s Jeremy Woo wrote a one-round mock draft and had the team drafting Tennessee Volunteers freshman forward Nate Ament. Below is what Woo wrote about this pick:

“Ament injured his right leg against Alabama on Feb. 28 and hasn’t played since, but he returned to basketball activities this week… He turned his season around in conference play after a slow start, averaging 19 points in 16 league games and reminding teams why he was so highly rated coming into the season. He has at times left evaluators wanting more, but checks valuable size and skill boxes that should make him a long-term NBA fixture. Whether Ament can take a star leap hinges on the evolution of his shot-creation skills.”

Ament returned for the SEC Tournament and looked sharp in his first game back by stuffing the stat sheet. He played in 29 games so far this season and is averaging 17.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 0.5 blocks, and 1.0 steals in 30.1 minutes per game. This would be an intriguing fit with the guard-heavy roster that the Bulls currently have under contract.
