News Bulls Team Notes

Chicago Bulls Linked to Major $220.4 Million Star in Trade Rumblings

Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan yells at an official during the second half against the Charlotte Hornets at Spectrum Center.

The Chicago Bulls have become a key team to watch as the NBA trade deadline continues to draw closer on February 5.

Most recently, the team has been surging in trade odds for Milwaukee Bucks superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo. While those odds may be surging, it seems very unlikely that the Bucks would be willing to trade Antetokounmpo within the Central Division to the Bulls.

However, there is another potential trade option Chicago could pursue.

Ahead of the deadline, it is clear that the Bulls would like to upgrade the center position. Nikola Vucevic is the current starter for the Bulls, but that isn’t a long-term situation. Chicago would be wise to bring in a new center if the right opportunity presents itself.

Pippen Ain’t Easy’s Andrew Hanlon believes that a trade for New York Knicks star center Karl-Anthony Towns could make sense for the Bulls.

“Considering Chicago’s serious need for both a center and a superstar — along with its asset cupboard full of expiring contracts and draft picks — pursuing a deal for Towns is worth a legitimate look,” Hanlon wrote.

Towns has been mentioned in a lot of trade rumors over the last few weeks. It has also been reported that the rumors have started taking a toll on his relationship with the Knicks. It’s quite possible that the 30-year-old big man could be made available for the right price.

So far this season in New York, Towns has played in 45 games. He has averaged 20 points per game to go along with 11.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists. In addition, Towns has shot 46.1 percent from the floor and 36.1 percent from three-point distance.

At this point in time, there have been no reports about what the Knicks would want in return for Towns. Making a trade for him would not come cheap. Chicago would need to send out a big trade package including draft capital and young talent to bring him onboard.

This is simply an idea with no reporting backing it. Towns may not even be moved by New York. Even if he were placed on the trade block, there is no guarantee that the Bulls would have interest in trading for him.

Expect to hear plenty of rumors surrounding Chicago as the deadline draws closer. With just a few days remaining to make a move, this is a scenario worth keeping an eye on.

Chicago Bulls are struggling to get draft capital for star player at NBA trade deadline

Chicago Bulls guard Coby White (0) in the fourth quarter against the Denver Nuggets at Ball Arena.

The Chicago Bulls are one of the teams that can control how the NBA trade deadline plays out. They have some players that they can move, but they also can be in acquistion mode depending on what they want to do. One of their star players is reportedly not getting the trade market the team expected to land, so let’s take a deeper dive into what is going on for the Bulls right now in the trade market.

The Chicago Bulls aren’t getting a first-round pick for Coby White right now

New York Times’s Joel Lorenzi discussed how the Bulls are not getting the compensation they believe guard White should draw to trade him away ahead of Thursday’s NBA trade deadline.

“While so few transactions have made the going for Bulls guard Coby White difficult to gauge, one league source indicated that Chicago has struggled in early attempts to net a first-round pick in a deal that might involve the seventh-year guard. Any reluctance stems from his expiring contract, the potential figure on his next deal and his nagging calf issues this season.”

White has been doing better this season than his career numbers, despite being limited to 28 games thus far. So far this season, he is averaging 18.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 0.7 steals with a 43.9/35.0/81.0 shooting split. With the inability to land a first-round pick for the veteran on the final year of his deal, it may be better for Chicago to just keep him. There is another possibility that a team will want to be more aggressive as Thursday’s trade deadline and actually offer a first-round pick.

The need for a starting guard like White to be added to a contender is worth something, but with the ability to improve the backcourt, the Bulls are staying strong with their asking price. It will be intriguing to see which team, if any, will pay that price for the guard heading to free agency.

Michael Jordan has praise for former rival’s arena in new interview

Michael Jordan New York Knicks

Michael Jordan’s contributions to the NBA on NBC this season have been interviews at halftime of select broadcasts this season. We already know how Charles Barkley feels about this mini interviews that were filmed in one sit down session, but for some they can be informative.

It is cool to hear Jordan speak on the game as it is today as well as stories from his playing time. But on Sunday, during halftime of the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks game, he dove into Madison Square Garden and why he loved playing at the Mecca of basketball.

And Jordan wanted to put on a show in the arena every time he played there.

“I’ve always considered Madison Square Garden a mecca of basketball, right? You know, the knowledge of basketball, the way that people perceive basketball. And they’re hard workers, and the New York Knicks teams always seem to play hard for their fan base. And the fans knew it, too. If they didn’t, the fans let them know that, right?” Jordan said in the latest installment of “Insights to Excellence.”

But there’s more…

Michael Jordan was motivated to play at MSG

Madison Square Garden is historic, opening in 1968 and being the league’s oldest venue. It still has the old school feel to it and when the stars are playing that night, there’s almost nothing better. That was the case when Jordan was playing the game as he and the Bulls took on rival New York for some memorable matchups.

But for Jordan, he never was bothered by the rowdy fans.

“I go in there with the notion that I know it’s not hostile. It’s more of the awareness that they’re going to cheer for the team, and they’re going to do everything to get you off your game,” he said. “It was never hostile towards me. It was more motivating and trying to get me off my game.”

“And look, once I’m in a game, once the ball goes up, I never even hear the fans. You know, if the fans ever can affect me or I can hear the fans, that means I’m not focused on what I should be doing, which is playing the game of basketball,”
he continued. “I get into the game. My opponent becomes more the focal point. The fans are fans.”

Michael Jordan breaks down the significance of playing at MSG —

Jordan’s mindset is a different one than some players might take, especially in today’s game. But he knew that going into MSG with the rowdy fans, he could use it as motivation.

Jordan dominated when he played in the Garden. He still holds the highest scoring average of any visiting player in the Garden’s history, averaging 31.8 points per game. In his first game at MSG, Jordan scored 33 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, dished out 5 assists. He also shot 68 percent from the field, putting together an impressive performance.

Rough timing with all these injuries hitting at once. Going into Miami without Giddey, White, and Vucevic is basically playing with one hand tied behind your back. At least the silver lining is that none of it sounds serious - just smart load management on a back-to-back. Hopefully we get most of them back for Sunday's rematch.

The KAT rumors are interesting to think about but feel like pure speculation at this point. Towns would obviously be an upgrade over Vooch, but the price tag would be steep and I'm not sure we have the assets to make it work without gutting the young core. Plus taking on that contract when we're still figuring out what we have with Giddey and Buzelis seems premature.

The Coby situation is frustrating. If teams really aren't offering a first for him, I'd almost rather just keep him and see if he re-signs at a reasonable number. He's been solid when healthy this year. But I get it - expiring deal, injury concerns, and teams are cautious about what his next contract looks like. Deadline pressure might change things. Sometimes these deals come together in the final hours when a contender gets desperate.

That MJ interview about MSG was a nice read. His mentality about tuning out crowds and using that energy as motivation rather than distraction is classic Jordan. Different era but that focus is timeless.

Report: Chicago Bulls Pull Off Nikola Vucevic Trade With Celtics

Chicago Bulls center Nikola Vucevic (9) looks on during the first half against the Portland Trail Blazers

The Chicago Bulls have been busy on Tuesday ahead of the NBA trade deadline.

After pulling off a three-team deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Detroit Pistons that brought in young guard Jaden Ivey, the Bulls have now worked out another trade. This time, Chicago sent out center Nikola Vucevic to the Boston Celtics, along with a second-round pick, for Anfernee Simons and a second-round pick.

ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania was the first to report the news of the trade between the Bulls and Celtics.

“BREAKING: The Chicago Bulls are trading center Nikola Vucevic and a second-round pick to the Boston Celtics for Anfernee Simons and a second-round pick, sources tell ESPN,” Charania wrote on X.

Chicago has been wheeling and dealing. Now, it will be interesting to see if the Bulls are done or if there are more changes coming.

The Chicago Bulls Have Been Looking to Trade Nikola Vucevic

Over the last couple of years, Vucevic has been connected to trade rumors quite heavily. It was just a matter of time before the Bulls decided to move him in a deal.

During the 2025-26 NBA season with Chicago, Vucevic has played in 48 games. He has averaged 16.9 points per game to go along with nine rebounds and 3.8 assists, while also shooting 50.5 percent from the floor and 37.6 percent from three-point range.

As for what Chicago is getting back, Simons adds another talented guard to the roster. He’s a capable scorer who could be an impact piece for the Bulls in the future if they choose to work out a new contract with him after the season comes to an end.

So far this season with Boston, Simons has played in 49 games. He has come off of the bench in all of those appearances and averaged 14.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists. Simons has shot 44 percent overall and 39.5 percent from the three-point line.

Expect to continue hearing rumors surrounding Chicago ahead of the Thursday trade deadline. However, Vucevic is now gone and on his way to the Celtics.

Chicago Bulls’ Coby White sounds off after recent Celtics trade

Chicago Bulls guard Coby White

On Tuesday, the Chicago Bulls pulled a second and third trade in the span of a week.

More News: Bulls have framework for Coby White trade with Timberwolves: Report

Chicago participated in a three-team deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Detroit Pistons to add guard Jaden Ivey. The Bulls traded center Nikola Vucevic to the Boston Celtics and a second-round pick for Anfernee Simons and a second-round pick.

Chicago is rolling guard-heavy after their recent moves, and star Coby White could soon be on the move before Thursday’s trade deadline.

“I’ve been with (Vucevic) for (six seasons), and we’ve formed a really good relationship from on the court to off the court,” White said. “He’s been a guy that was a believer in me from Day 1. Obviously going to miss him a lot. Tough day. Like everybody else, I guess, it’s part of the business, be robots about it, I guess.

“The narrative around is it’s part of the business, but we’re still human. If you had a co-worker and he got let go or you had a co-worker and he took another job, you’re going to feel a certain way about it.”

Chicago Bulls’ Coby White could be next

White understands that he could soon be the next Bulls player traded as the front office restructures the roster amid being the No. 9 team in the Eastern Conference. He wants to stay in Chicago, but knows his time could soon come to end.

“Obviously I want to be here,” White said. “Yeah, like I said I love my teammates, but at the end of the day you have all been asking me, and the front office is going to do what’s best for the team. I want this team to do nothing but succeed, but whatever they feel is best for the team. I just want to see everybody here win.”

That comes off as nothing but lip service from the 2019 first-round pick.

White had the opportunity to put his money where his mouth is about staying with the Bulls. He didn’t sign a contract extension before the season, and he’s headed to free agency in the summer.

More News: Bulls making notable ‘movement’ in Giannis Antetokounmpo odds

On Tuesday, the Bulls traded center Nikola Vucevic to the Boston Celtics and a second-round pick for Anfernee Simons and a second-round pick. That trade came after Chicago participated in a three-team deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Detroit Pistons to add guard Jaden Ivey.

Per Shams Charania of ESPN, the Bulls traded Coby White and Mike Conley Jr. to the Charlotte Hornets for Collin Sexton and Ousmane Dieng. The Hornets will also send Chicago three second-round picks.

“Just in: The Chicago Bulls are trading Coby White and Mike Conley Jr. to the Charlotte Hornets for Collin Sexton, Ousmane Dieng and three second-round picks, sources tell ESPN,” Charania posted on X.

The Bulls selected White with the NO. 7 pick in the 2019 draft. He averaged 18.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists this season. Chicago was unable to land a first-round pick for a player they worked to develop into a key starter.

On Tuesday, White said he wanted to remain in Chicago.

Still, the guard had an opportunity to to sign a deal with the Bulls before the season that would have kept him in the organization for a long time.

Instead, White’s going to another Eastern Conference team obsessed with mediocrity. The North Carolina standout is joining 23-28 Hornets team that is in 11th place in the conference.

Sexton, a 2018 first-round pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers, is averaging 14.2 points, 1.9 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.

NBA Trade News: Chicago Bulls complete trade to add Guerschon Yabusele from the New York Knicks

Chicago Bulls executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas (right) talks with general manager Marc Eversley (left)

The Chicago Bulls have been one of the most active teams ahead of the NBA trade deadline, making a lot of deals to acquire future assets while stripping the team down for the 2025-26 season. However, they have made a move early Thursday morning that will impact the depth of the team in a trade with the New York Knicks. Let’s take a closer look at what the Bulls did with this move and discuss what this trade means.

Chicago Bulls executive Arturas Karnisovas is not overly optimistic about the team this year.

NBA: Chicago Bulls executive Arturas Karnisovas

ESPN’s Shams Charania is reporting that the Bulls are acquiring forward Guerschon Yabusele from the Knicks in exchange for guard Dalen Terry. Chicago has a lot of players in their backcourt, so they were able to swap one of them in exchange for a player in the frontcourt. Yabusele has played 41 games off the bench for the Knicks this season after playing with the Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics throughout his NBA career. He averages 14.8 minutes and records 5.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 0.4 steals per game.

Yabusele has spent time overseas, where he was able to play in many different leagues and win games. He would play overseas from 2019 to 2024 before returning to the NBA last season. This is going to be a strong depth piece to add to the Bulls. He will be coming off the bench to help relieve either power forward Matas Buzelis or center Jalen Smith.

In order to land him, Chicago needed to trade away Terry, who spent the last four years with the franchise. He played 34 games this season off the bench and in 11.1 minutes, he is averaging 3.5 points, 1.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 0.6 steals per game. With all the guards on the roster, this is a chance for the Bulls to get some more size.

Chicago Bulls sign notable free agent to a two-way contract

Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls have been arguably the most active team ahead of the 2026 NBA trade deadline, moving off of a lot of rotational pieces for future assets. This has left their current available roster a bit thin as trades continue to be pending and players on either side of the deal are not able to play until it is officially cleared by the league office. Chicago needed to get some players added to the roster ahead of their upcoming game against the Toronto Raptors, so let’s take a closer look at who they just signed.

The Chicago Bulls sign Mac McClung to a two-way contract

The Chicago Bulls signed guard Mac McClung to a two-way contract on Thursday. McClung has been part of the Windy City Bulls for a majority of the season, being part of 24 games. He averaged 25.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 1.3 steals in 33.0 minutes per game. In the regular season, he averaged a G League high 27.1 points per game. While he has been stepping up in G League, he is more notable for winning the previous three NBA Slam Dunk Contest titles.

With the Bulls having a game later today in Toronto, McClung will be available to play. He is one of three Bulls players signed to a two-way contract, joining Yuki Kawamura and Lachlan Olbrich. McClung will be wearing No. 5 in the NBA and will be expected to get some serious minutes with the rotation being in flux until trades become finalized. It will be intriguing to see what he is able to bring to the Bulls after the locker room has completely changed over the previous few days.

Chicago Bulls issue bold statement after NBA trade deadline

Chicago Bulls executive Arturas Karnisovas is not overly optimistic about the team this year.

The Chicago Bulls were one of the most active teams leading up to the NBA trade deadline on Thursday. The front office made several bold moves that will significantly impact the organization’s short- and long-term objectives.

The biggest move for Chicago was trading two-time All-Star big man Nikola Vucevic to the Boston Celtics in exchange for Anfernee Simons and a 2026 second-round pick. The Bulls also sent Coby White to the Charlotte Hornets. In exchange, Chicago received Collin Sexton and Ousmane Dieng, who was also traded.

The Bulls also sent Dalen Terry to the New York Knicks for Guerschon Yabusele and cash considerations. Kevin Huerter was shipped off to the Detroit Pistons for Jaden Ivey and Mike Conley (also traded). The Bulls also offloaded Ayo Dosunmu and Julian Philips to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Rob Dillingham, Leonard Miller and four second-round draft picks. Finally, Chicago also acquired Nick Richards from the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Dieng.

Chicago Bulls Executive Vice President Artūras Karnišovas spoke to the media a few hours after the 3 p.m. trade deadline. Karnišovas expressed his excitement amid the team’s flurry of moves.

Karnišovas also issued a bold statement about what the future holds for Chicago after such an eventful trade deadline.

“Play-in is not the goal. Championship is,” Karnišovas said, via K.C. Johnson of Chicago Sports Network. “We have made meaningful shift in terms of roster building.”

The Bulls aren’t considered serious championship contenders this season. As of writing, they are 10th in the Eastern Conference with a 24-27 record. If the NBA playoffs started today, the Bulls would be in the play-in.

Karnišovas made it clear, however, that this is not the Bulls’ objective. They want to be a legitimate threat to the title, and they have taken the necessary steps towards this goal with their trade-deadline moves.

Karnišovas emphasized the flexibility his team come the offseason. They dumped millions of dollars in salaries over the past 48 hours or so, while also acquiring future-facing assets. The Bulls are not going to win a championship this season, but they are determined to change the narrative in the not-so-distant future.

Former Chicago Bulls player named a winner at NBA Trade Deadline

The Chicago Bulls made a flurry of moves this week s the NBA Trade Deadline came and went. Chicago’s roster looks at lot different than it did a week ago and with a 24-28 record, they sit 12th in the NBA draft order right now. How close to the top five they get is still a question to be answered.

With the team deciding to go in a new direction, it meant they had to move on from center Nikola Vucevic. The veteran was in the last year of his contract and for the Bulls, it made a lot of sense to move him. In return, they landed a player in Anfernee Simons. The guard is a free agent after this year but could play his way into a contract as he’s just 26-years-old.

Vucevic now gets the chance to compete in the Eastern Conference with Boston. And that led him to be named a winner at the trade deadline.

Nikola Vucevic named a ‘winner’ at deadline

As mentioned above, Vucevic is going to a better situation now. He was stuck with a Bulls franchise that believed they had enough to get to the playoffs each year. In reality, they were a play-in team.

Here is some of what The Ringer had to say on Vucevic being a winner:

This is pretty simple. Vucevic is exiting an organization that’s completely indifferent to success, has no identifiable team-building strategy beyond a sudden obsession with second-round picks, and isn’t very good. He’s joining an organization that’s committed to winning the championship every single year, boasts a rock-solid culture that’s based on accountability, and is very good. The Bulls are asleep. The Celtics are awake. The Bulls are unserious. The Celtics are shrewd.

This move is a life raft for Vucevic, a 35-year-old center who’s never won a playoff series. He’s also on an expiring contract and now finds himself in an ideal position to alter how he’s perceived around the league. Most likely sliding in as a backup center who can make spot starts when tapped for it, Vooch is still skilled enough to have a second unit run its offense through him. He can facilitate from the mid-post, stand on the perimeter and space, pop out for open 3s, set sturdy screens, and duck into the paint to seal smaller defenders who’ve switched on to him.

This also helps the Bulls at least get something out of a deal for an expiring contract. So it makes sense for them, as well.

A trade like this could be a win-win for both sides. The Bulls just have to hope they are finally going in the right direction with the decisions they made.

Chicago Bulls trade deadline grade revealed

Ayo Donsunmu Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls completely overhauled their core roster leading up to the NBA trade deadline. The team moved on from Coby White, Ayo Dosunmu, Nikola Vucevic, Kevin Huerter, and Dario Šarić for a bunch more guards and an insane amount of second-round picks.

More news: Chicago Bulls Executive VP appears to take shot at Coby White after Hornets trade

While many fans are rightfully confused and angered over some of these trades, Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz gave the Bulls an A- grade and said “there’s a lot to like moving forward” regarding these questionable moves.

The Chicago Bulls received an A- grade for their trade deadline moves

More news: Chicago Bulls sign notable free agent to a two-way contract

Swartz specifically named the trade for Jaden Ivey as “one of the best trades of the entire deadline”.

The Bulls traded both Huerter and Šarić for the 2022 fifth overall pick. Swartz explained that with Ivey’s young age of 23, he still has a lot of potential and could be the early favorite to be the Bulls’ shooting guard of the future.

“Ivey no longer looked like a core piece for a rising Detroit Pistons team, yet he owns career averages of 14.9 points and 4.9 assists a game and is still only 23. He’s the early favorite to become the team’s shooting guard of the future.”

The Bulls also added four second round picks and Rob Dillingham from Minnesota in return for fan favorite Dosunmu. Dillingham could eventually turn into a solid rotational guard, according to Swartz.

Swartz gave the Bulls a very high grade for the trade deadline, despite failing to add a legitimate big man to their roster and having way too many guards on their team.

Another Bulls rebuild is on the way

It seems the Bulls will be looking to begin yet another rebuild. With the overhaul of their roster, it seems the Bulls have a shot to finally get back in the draft lottery after years of being stuck in the play-in tournament.

Hopefully, Chicago can get a top pick in the 2026 draft and add to its core of Josh Giddey and Matas Buzelis.

At last, the Chicago Bulls finally decided to pick a direction for the franchise after years of settling for the play-in round. The Bulls made a flurry of moves this past week ahead of the NBA’s Trade Deadline.

They moved on from players like Nikola Vucevic, Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu while landing some young players as well as draft picks. The bad news is that the Bulls didn’t land a single first-round pick for any of those three players, which a few years back seemed like a real possibility. Instead, they settled for a bunch of second-round picks.

But now, there’s some more bad news for the organization after one of the trades.

As part of the deal that sent White to Charlotte, the Bulls received three second-round picks. Chicago was set to get the least favorable 2029 second-round pick between Denver and Charlotte, a 2031 New York Knicks pick and 2031 Denver Nuggets pick. Not a terrible haul but it certainly could have been better.

But on Friday night, the Bulls received some bad news.

Per Fred Katz of The Athletic, the trade between the two sides has been amended and it hurts the Bulls. Due to a physical that showed White had a left calf injury and would have to miss time, the NBA is expected to remove the 2029 second-round pick. That means, the Bulls will now have just the two 2031 picks in the deal.

The Bulls and Hornets amended the Coby White trade after a physical showed White had a left calf injury and would have to miss time, league sources tell @TheAthleticNBA. Hornets are now sending two second-rounders (2031 NYK, 2031 DEN) to Chicago instead of three.

That feels like a major oversight by the Bulls for a few different reasons. Not only did they trade an injured player but they also had the guard playing in games as recent as last week. It truly feels like the Bulls front office made moves just to make moves. This blunder isn’t a good look for the front office and it really shouldn’t give fans much hope moving forward.

Let’s hope we are wrong.

Bulls already facing crucial Jaden Ivey decision after trade

Jaden Ivey, Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls made a flurry of trades ahead of the NBA deadline this season. None of those moves were more interesting than the team bringing in former Detroit Pistons point guard Jaden Ivey.

Just a few short years ago in the 2022 NBA Draft, the Pistons made Ivey the No. 5 overall pick. After a stellar college career with the Purdue Boilermakers, Ivey was expected to be a rising star for Detroit. Unfortunately, his career has not panned out quite as expected.

Despite the slow start to his career, Ivey is just 23 years old with plenty of time to turn things around. Perhaps being traded to the Bulls could give him that ability.

With that being said, Chicago is already facing a serious decision regarding Ivey. He is set to become a restricted free agent this offseason. Do the Bulls believe in him enough to warrant a long-term extension already after just acquiring him?

In his debut performance with the team against the Toronto Raptors, Ivey played in 33 minutes and scored 13 points on 5-for-12 shooting to go along with six assists, four rebounds, and three steals. Against the Denver Nuggets in his second game with the Bulls, he scored 10 points, grabbed six rebounds, recorded three assists, and chipped in two steals as well.

Last season with Detroit, Ivey played in 30 games and made 30 starts before going down with an injury. He averged 17.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and four assists per game, while shooting 46 percent from the floor and 40.9 percent from three-point range.

Ivey has shown flashes of being a really good player. However, he has been unable to figure out the consistency side of the game just yet. If he can become a more consistent player, he could be a part of the long-term future for Chicago.

Making a trade to acquire him is a good sign that the Bulls plan to keep him around. It doesn’t mean that they won’t consider parting ways if things don’t work out throughout the rest of this season, but it seems likely that Chicago will try to re-sign him.

Expect to hear more speculation about the Bulls and Ivey as the season moves forward. For now, he’ll focus on trying to earn his spot for the future.
