Buccaneers Week 10 Top Performers vs. New England Patriots

gettyimages-2245374563.jpg

An ugly afternoon played out in the skies and on the field as the Buccaneers squandered several opportunities to trump a red-hot Patriots team.

The offense looked slightly better compared to the prior two games, as you’d hope out of a bye, but it still wasn’t good enough, while the defense allowed an unacceptable number of splash plays to put the game out of reach in a 28-23 defeat.

It’s clear the lack of horses on offense is simply hamstringing Baker Mayfield and offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard, the latter of whom has struggled adapting in response to how defenses have played this Tampa offense. Meanwhile, the defense continues to let massive plays mar generally good play overall.

The gauntlet continues next week with a road trip against a Buffalo Bills unit also coming off a back-breaking loss. Let’s give some shoutouts and move on.

Offensive Top Performer: WR Emeka Egbuka

After two quiet weeks, presumably because of his hamstring tweak, Egbuka responded with an excellent performance from start to finish for the Bucs. Egbuka led all players with 6 catches, 115 yards and a touchdown, and he even got the better of an elite corner in Christian Gonzalez a few times despite being Tampa’s only major threat downfield.

Fellow rookie Tez Johnson showed up again as well with 4 grabs for 42 yards and 2 touchdowns — the seventh-round rookie now has 4 touchdowns on the season as he continues to look like a steal. Cade Otton logged his best game of the year with 9 catches for 82 yards as the team needed him less for blocking with Luke Goedeke back.

Sean Tucker continued to look explosive, as he became the first running back all season to run for more than 50 yards against the Patriots — he toted the rock 9 times for 53 yards.

Overall, however, the Bucs offense faltered at too many key moments, and Mayfield once again looked too uncomfortable. The team needs Bucky Irving and/or Chris Godwin back sooner rather than later to give some dimension to the offensive attack.

Defensive Top Performer: S Tykee Smith

Simply put, you cannot allow THREE 50+ yard touchdowns and expect to win. You need to give credit to a dangerous New England offense, but at the same time, the big play has bitten this team far too often all year.

It’s a shame because the defense is fairly sound more often than not, and it has kept an anemic offense in competitive spots — including this week.

A huge part of that was Tykee Smith, who snatched a remarkable fingertip interception in the endzone late in the fourth quarter to keep the Bucs down only 5. Smith also totaled 8 tackles as he continues to cement himself as one of the league’s best safeties in his sophomore season.

Rookie defensive lineman Elijah Roberts posted arguably the best game of his young career with 2 solo tackles (including one on a third-down Drake Maye scramble), a third-down pass deflection, and a sack. His snaps have continued to increase, and he’s earned it.

Jamel Dean and Jacob Parrish both played well again in the secondary, though sadly that came at the expense of Zyon McCollum and Ben Morrison having rough games themselves.

Special Teams Top Performer: P Riley Dixon

Outside of an ugly shank late in the game, Riley Dixon was very solid most of the game.

He logged 2 out of 6 kicks inside the 20, and one should’ve been downed inside the 10 if not for a non-existent coverage unit. He averaged 43 yards per kick as he did a good job of keeping the field position battle mostly in Tampa’s favor most of the afternoon.

Not much else to say on this front, Chase McLaughlin hit all three of his kicks (1 FG, 2 XPs) to keep his good season rolling along.

Week 10 Game Recap: Buccaneers lose to the Patriots 28-23, drop to 6-3

gettyimages-2245357451.jpg

First Quarter:

gettyimages-2245866565.jpg

Tampa Bay’s ball first, Tampa Bay’s touchdown first. The Buccaneers took less than four minutes to maneuverer their way down the field and into the end zone. Baker Mayfield, coming off back-to-back subpar outings got the ball rolling early and rolled that ball to now healthy again wide receiver Emeka Egbuka— Two of Baker’s three completions, 45 yards, and a six-point score. 7-0, Buccaneers.

Tampa’s offense set the bar high and the team’s defense maintained the standard. Drake Maye and the Patriots’ offense were able to convert a fourth down on their opening drive, however, the drive stalled soon after with third down Drake Maye over throw. A clear-skied opening drive for the Buccaneers was audibled to a stormy rain-filled drive number two for New England, before the game’s third drive feature Tampa Bay and clear skies again. The Buccaneers’ offense failed to take advantage of being in the weather’s good graces with their first punt of the game.

Backed up on their own six-yard line matched Tampa punt for punt. The Bucs’ third opportunity on the field looked a lot like their second. Following more Riley Dixon than Bucs’ fans care to see, the Patriots’ offense came to life. One play, 78 yards, and a touchdown. Drake Maye to Kyle Williams— 7-7.

Second Quarter:

More points wouldn’t find their way onto the scoreboard until the final eight minutes of the first half. Baker Mayfield’s second big hook up of the game with Emeka Egbuka got the Buccaneers down into range for a Chase McLaughlin field goal. Kick up, kick good— 10-7, Bucs.

Tampa’s three point lead was quickly threatened. New England’s next drive was very Drake Maye-centric and aside from his one-off deep strike touchdown to Kyle Williams, appeared to be the first time New England’s young passer got his feet get underneath him. Using those feet he took his team all the way to Tampa’s goal line. A yard away from scoring, the Patriots decided to take a strategy out of a Madden player’s arsenal. With first and goal at the one-yard line, New England sacrificed a play for the sake of controlling the clock. The Patriots arrogantly opted to have Drake Maye take the snap and lay down rather than attempt to score. That decision allowed the them to drain every last second off of the clock. Tampa Bay was unable to make them pay for their arrogance as the sequence’s fourth down featured a Drake Maye to Stefon Diggs touchdown. 17-14, Patriots.

Third Quarter:

CBS should’ve gave Bucs’ fans a warning coming into the second half to avert their eyes. Half one ends with a Patriots touchdown, half two begins with a Patriots touchdown. 24-14, New England.

Two punts later, a backed up Tampa Bay offense sparkled. Run game and pass game worked in unison, taking Tampa down the field. Long drives that end in touchdown warm fan’s hearts like a delicious home cooked Thanksgiving dinner. Baker Mayfield and Tez Johnson treated the Tampa Bay faithful to just that when they cheffed game-rallying score. As Tampa fans have come to know— if Tez Johnson scores, Tez Johnson will gymnasti—cize the endzone. Two point trickery fails— 21-16, Patriots.

gettyimages-2245883358.jpg

Fourth Quarter:

The fourth quarter started slowed, for Tampa Bay in particular. It remained slow until a third and fifteen deep shot— Drake Maye t0 Mack Hollins, gave the Patriots a chance to put a dagger in Tampa Bay. Set up in scoring position, the with a dagger in their hand, the Patriot’s offense fumbled the opportunity for a close-out. Tykee Smith, after walloping Drake Maye on a sideline, scramble stepped in front of the quarterback’s pass in the end zone for the game’s first turnover.

Baker Mayfield in the clutch has worked out in Tampa’s favor all season. Week 10 against the New England Patriots, however, will not be a part of that remix. Insult to injury came on the game’s next drive— 28-16, Patriots. Garbage time points got Tampa within a score— 28-23.

Following the display Tampa has put on the field in each of its last three contests, the question starts to set in— How good are the 2025 Tampa Bay Bucs actually?

Buccaneers vs. Patriots: Inactives for Week 10

gettyimages-2235232917.jpg

The 6-2 Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be playing host to the 7-2 New England Patriots Sunday. The Bucs are coming off a much needed bye week, and will get some instant help across the offensive line.

Tampa Bay has activated veteran lineman Luke Goedeke off injured reserve after injuring his foot in September. Goedeke was originally listed as questionable heading into this weekend in the team’s final injury report for this week. The team has been needing a boost in the run game, and will hope to see that beginning this afternoon with his return.

However, the Bucs will once again be without wide receiver Chris Godwin and running back Bucky Irving. Defensively, veteran pass rusher Haason Reddick will not play this afternoon following his leg injury a couple weeks back in Detroit.

As for New England, no major surprises as they come in to Tampa Bay.

Davy Jones’ Locker: Buccaneers vs Patriots Q&A with Pats Pulpit

gettyimages-2244892940.jpg

The Buccaneers are back from their bye week and things are looking good as they currently sit at 6-2 on the season after a convincing win against the Saints in week eight. Now though they have a tough part of their schedule as their next three games are all against teams with records well above .500.

First up are the 7-2 New England Patriots, who have won six straight. To get a better read on this matchup, we spoke with Taylor Kyles of Pats Pulpit to give us an inside scoop on how New England has been doing this year.

1. With the Patriots sitting at 7-2 and winners of six straight, it has been an impressive one-year turnaround. What would you say is the biggest reason for this quick of an improvement?

“I’d say the trifecta of Mike Vrabel, Drake Maye, and Josh McDaniels deserves the most credit. Vrabel has brought a level of credibility, attention to detail, and organizational vision that was much needed after last season. He also did a great job filling the staff with both old and new faces this offseason. Drake Maye proved to be a fast learner and rare playmaker as a rookie, but he’s turned better coaching and a more competent supporting cast into an MVP campaign. While ball security and unnecessarily long dropbacks remain significant areas for improvement, Maye is well ahead of schedule, and his offensive coordinator is a big reason why. McDaniels may not be head coach material, but he’s one of the league’s best play-designers, game-planners, and play-callers. The Patriots’ offense is maximizing talent and operating at a respectable level for the first time since he left after the 2021 season, which has contributed to breakout seasons for Kayshon Boutte and DeMario Douglas, as well as a resurgence for Stefon Diggs.”

2. Drake Maye is playing like an MVP candidate right now. What has made him really stand out this season?

“Maye’s gotten better protection and trusts his receivers this season, allowing him to show off his rare arm talent more consistently. He’s on a historic pace on deep passes, and he’s much more consistently accurate overall than most expected when he was coming out of UNC. Maye has also been one of the league’s most dangerous scramblers since last season, and while it can be a crutch at times, it’s something defenses must be wary of, or he’ll rip off explosive gains. Outside of the physical talent, Maye’s ability to process coverages and decipher disguises has been incredible to watch for a 23-year-old. He isn’t afraid to test the honey hole in Cover 2, which could present some interesting matchups given how competitive Tampa’s corners have been on the outside.”

3. Who is one underrated player on the Patriots that Bucs fans should keep an eye on that could have a big impact on the game?

“DeMario Douglas has been miscast as a shifty underneath target for most of his career, but the reality is, he’s a dangerous downfield threat who’s very difficult to cover one-on-one. Douglas should’ve had over 160 yards and two touchdowns on his first two catches against the Saints, but the second was called back for a phantom penalty. I’m not sure how many other receivers’ career stats are further from their on-field play than Douglas’, but he’s an explosive pass-catcher who could see more targets with deep threat Kayshon Boutte out.”

4. When looking at this game, what is your X factor matchup?

“Running back TreVeyon Henderson got off to a slow start this regular season, but he’s had back-to-back career performances. The Ohio State product will be asked to help carry the ground game, pick up blitzers, and serve as a quick outlet from the backfield, which is much easier said than done. That said, if Henderson can keep his quarterback clean and maximize his touches, it would make life much easier on everyone around him.”

5. What is your score prediction and how do you see this one shaking out?

“I’m predicting the Patriots to pull off the upset 20-13. Drake Maye has at least one or two drives a game where he locks in and feels inevitable, which is how I predict New England puts up two touchdowns. Baker Mayfield is one of my favorite quarterbacks playing right now, but the Patriots’ secondary of Christian Gonzalez, Carlton Davis, and Marcus Jones might be too much for the young tandem of Emeka Egbuka and Tez Johnson. Unless the defense sleeps on Cade Otton, I think Tampa will have a tough time moving the football.”

Thanks so much to Taylor for doing this!

Buccaneers vs. Patriots: Predictions and picks for Week 10

gettyimages-2233796792.jpg

As the Buccaneers get set to take on the New England Patriots at home following their bye week, we here at Bucs Nation will dive into some picks and predictions for Tampa Bay’s big Week 10 matchup at Raymond James Stadium.

Check it all out below.

Predictions

Offense

Tampa Bay’s offense was not hitting on all cylinders heading into their bye. Part of the reason has been due to the countless injuries the offense has seen while another part of the equation being that of the inconsistent play from quarterback Baker Mayfield. Look for the veteran signal caller to get back on track this week, throwing for three touchdowns and 250 yards against the 20th ranked defense in the league.

Defense

Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is coming in to this game as the 5th ranked quarterback in the league in passing yards (2,285) and the best quarterback rating in the league with a 116.9 mark. The Buccaneers defense will undoubtedly have their hands full, but they will get to Maye often and record at least four sacks against an offensive front that gives up the second to worst sack per pass attempt rate in the NFL.

Week 10 Staff Picks

Gil Arcia (7-1): Bucs 27, Patriots 20
Mike Kiwak (6-2): Bucs 24, Patriots 17
Evan Wanish (7-1): Bucs 21, Patriots 20
Will Walsh (7-1): Bucs 32, Patriots 18

Buccaneers at Bills: Predictions and picks for Week 11

gettyimages-1763908295.jpg

As the Buccaneers get set to take on the Bills in Buffalo following their home loss to the New England Patriots, we here at Bucs Nation will dive into some picks and predictions for Tampa Bay’s big Week 11 matchup against a tough AFC opponent.

Check it all out below.

Predictions

Offense

Tampa Bay’s offense has been very inconsistent. With no Bucky Irving and no Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay still isn’t mustering enough juice on offense to put teams away. But there could be some potential positives in this game for the Bucs. The Bills give up 147 yards a game on the ground (ranked 30th). The Buccaneers may be able to get the run game going with Rachaad White and Sean Tucker and total at least 120 yards on the ground in Buffalo.

Defense

Buffalo is a damn good football team offensively. They are second overall in total yards per game. Without the doubt, the Buccaneers defense will have their hands full. But in the last four games, Buffalo was not dominant in two games against the Falcons and the Dolphins in the rushing department. Their league best 153 yards per game on the ground diminished to 134 yards against Atlanta and 87 yards against Miami. If the Bucs want any shot at winning this one, they will need to limit the Bills to a rushing number in between and hope the pass defense can hold up. Look for the Bucs to hold the Bills to only around 100 yards on the ground Sunday.

Week 11 Staff Picks

Gil Arcia (7-2): Bills 30, Bucs 20
Mike Kiwak (6-3): Bills 27, Bucs 20
Evan Wanish (7-2): Bills 24, Bucs 16
Will Walsh (7-2): Bucs 27, Bills 25

Notes and stats from the Buccaneers 44-32 loss to the Bills

gettyimages-2247031510.jpg

– The Tampa Bay Buccaneers fell to the Buffalo Bills by a final score of 44-32 and are now 6-4 on the season. The Buccaneers remain in sole possession of first place in the NFC South division.

– The Buccaneers rushed for a season high 202 yards – their most since posting that same total in the Week 17 win over the Carolina Panthers in 2024. The team’s +105 rushing margin was also its best since Week 17 of the 2024 season. In the first half alone, Tampa Bay tallied 136 rushing yards, which marked the Buccaneers’ most in an opening half since 10/23/16 at San Francisco (143).

Sean Tucker led the way offensively, contributing 106 rushing yards on 19 carries (5.6 avg.), with two rushing touchdowns. His 106 rushing yards were his second-most in any single game of his career (136 at New Orleans, 10/13/24).

Tucker amassed 140 total yards from scrimmage, the second-most in any single game of his career, behind only his 192-yard outburst at New Orleans (10/13/24). Through the air, Tucker finished with two receptions for 34 yards, including a 28-yard touchdown reception.

– Sunday marked the first game of Tucker’s career with multiple rushing touchdowns, his first career three-touchdown performance and his second career 100-yard rushing performance.

Rachaad White added 51 yards rushing on 10 carries (5.1 avg.), while making two receptions for 11 yards.

Baker Mayfield completed 16-of-28 passes for 173 yards and one touchdown. He added a rushing touchdown and averaged 7.8 yards per rush on Sunday, taking five carries for 39 yards.

Mayfield has rushed 14 times this season on third down. 12 have gone for first downs, including three on Sunday (85.7% success rate). That is the highest first down rush percentage on third down attempts among all QBs (min. 10 attempts). Mayfield’s 197 rushing yards this season are the second-most of any season in his career, trailing only 2024 (378).

Sterling Shepard recorded a team-high 54 yards on four receptions – his second-most receiving yards in a game this season (80 vs. New York Jets, 9/21/25).

Emeka Egbuka pitched in five receptions for 40 yards, extending his season totals to 45 receptions for 717 yards and six touchdowns.

– With three takeaways today, Tampa Bay now has six games this season in which they’ve recorded multiple takeaways — tied with the Chicago Bears for the most-such games in the NFL this season through Sunday’s 1 p.m. games.

Jacob Parrish picked off a Josh Allen pass to secure his first career interception. He is the only rookie this season with multiple sacks and an interception through Sunday’s 1 p.m. games.

– With two tackles for loss on Sunday, Parrish now has seven on the season, which are the second-most by any NFL defensive back in 2025. His seven tackles for loss are also tied for the most among all rookies at any position.

Parrish is the first rookie defensive back since Devon Witherspoon in 2023 with seven-or-more tackles for loss, multiple sacks and an interception in a season.

SirVocea Dennis also recorded his first career interception, while contributing four tackles.

Tykee Smith had multiple passes defensed for the third time this season, including a tipped ball that was intercepted by Dennis. Smith’s 11 passes defensed on the year are tied for the third-most in the NFL through Sunday’s 1 p.m. games.

Smith is the first defensive back since 2023 with 75+ tackles, 10+ passes defensed, multiple sacks and at least one interception in a single season (Kyle Hamilton, Antoine Winfield Jr., Devon Witherspoon). He’s the first defensive back since Landon Collins in 2016 to record these statistics in the first 11 weeks of a season.

Lavonte David forced a fumble on Bills RB Ty Johnson, recording the 32nd forced fumble of his career. His 32 forced fumbles are the third-most among active players, trailing only Khalil Mack (34) and T.J. Watt (35).

– On special teams, CB Josh Hayes forced a fumble that was recovered by WR Ryan Miller and led to Tampa Bay’s first touchdown of the second half.

Chase McLaughlin went 2-for-2 on field goal attempts and has 80 points scored this season –tied for the fourth-most among all kickers through Sunday’s 1 p.m. games. His 20 field goals made are also tied for the fourth-most in the NFL.

Riley Dixon pinned 3-of-4 punts on the day inside the 20-yard line. He has 17 punts downed inside the 20-yard line this season – tied for the second-most in the NFL through Sunday’s 1 p.m. games.

Buccaneers Week 11 Top Performers at Buffalo Bills

gettyimages-2247017207.jpg

Dread it. Run from it. The Buccaneers’ mid-season slump arrives all the same.

For the fourth season in a row, the Buccaneers are staring down the very real possibility of a three-game losing slump in the middle of the year, as they dropped their second consecutive game Sunday and third in the last four as the Bills rammed through them, 44-32.

The defense was, quite simply, dreadful outside of causing two turnovers, allowing the most points a Todd Bowles defense ever has in seven seasons as defensive coordinator / head coach. This came despite the Bucs’ offense generating its best rushing yard output of the season and scoring 32 points — their second-highest total of the year.

With perpetual spectre Sean McVay and his red-hot Los Angeles Rams on the docket for Sunday Night Football next week, the Buccaneers need to right themselves fast if they hope to avoid that dreaded aforementioned losing streak.

Let’s do some shoutouts and move on.

Offensive Top Performer: RB Sean Tucker

Like a total solar eclipse, Sean Tucker going supernova happens only occasionally, but when it does, it’s glorious to watch.

The third-year man out of Syracuse decimated a league-worst Buffalo run defense all day long, compiling 19 carries for 106 yards and two touchdowns to go along with 2 catches for 34 yards and another score. He kept delivering explosives to keep pace with a superhuman performance with Josh Allen, and him playing well the last couple games should help the team feel more comfortable with bringing Bucky Irving along slowly as he finally nears his return.

SEAN TUCKER GAME. THREE TDs.

— NFL (@NFL) November 16, 2025

Rachaad White got his yards too, tallying 51 yards on 10 carries as well as 2 catches for 11 yards. It will be interesting to see if a 3-man rotation persists or it goes back primarily to White and Irving.

Defensive Top Performer: S Tykee Smith

Again, it was one of those weeks where I strongly considered just saying “no one” here, but Tykee Smith continued his superb season and deserves the recognition.

An equalizer against heavy personnel thanks to his tough, instinctual style of play, Smith’s versatility when it comes to defending the run and intermediate areas of the field is invaluable. He totaled 5 tackles and two passes defensed — one of which occurred on fourth down and led to a SirVocea Dennis interception. He’s having a Pro Bowl year and has made a strong argument for Tampa’s best defensive player thus far.

SirVocea Dennis gets his first career INT off the deflection, and Josh Allen now has his second interception of the day.

— Preme Football (@premefootball) November 16, 2025

Not too much else to shout out when you allow the opposing QB to score 6 touchdowns, but rookie Jacob Parrish made multiple splash plays with his first career interception and a big tackle for loss. A facemask penalty at a pivotal moment late in the game dampered the overall performance, but Parrish keeps showing a lot more good than bad.

Special Teams Top Performer: P Riley Dixon

Special teams, once again, largely played terribly. The coordinator, Thomas McGaughey, should be fired Monday, frankly, with the Bills posting returns of 40+ yards FOUR TIMES. Their primary returner, Ray Davis, averaged 39.5 yards per return with a long of 44. That is unacceptable.

Literally the only good coverage play came on the Bills’ lone punt return of the day when Josh Hayes poked the ball free from Mecole Hardman, which Ryan Miller subsequently recovered. That did lead to a touchdown, so some props there.

Great play by the Bucs special teams right here, Josh Hayes and Kameron Johnson forcing the fumble right here and Ryan Miller with the fumble recovery 🙏❤️🎉🏴‍☠️👏🏻👏🏻 #WeAreTheKrewe (my video) pic.twitter.com/UpN6KPe0re

— CHAMPA BAY (@bucsnationx210) November 16, 2025

However, I’m going to keep praising Riley Dixon because he has continued to kick fairly well after a very rough first month of the season. He pinned three kicks inside the 20, two of which got downed inside the 10, during a very windy afternoon in Buffalo. He fulfilled his role in jockeying for field position even if the defense failed to capitalize on it.

Week 11 Game Recap: Bowles’ Bucs blunder again, Tampa loses 44-32

gettyimages-2247009527.jpg

First Quarter:

Receiving the ball first, the Buccaneers’ offense pieced together a very promising opening drive. A week ago, against New England Tampa’s debut possession was one of the only positives from the game’s early stages— The Bucs’ scripted plays took them to them to end zone for an Emeka Egbuka touchdown, before a flounder offense began looking lost. This week, Tampa once again came out guns blazing. A strong run game escorted Tampa into striking distance, though a failed third down, combined with game-altering weather conditions led them to a punt. Punts aren’t known for leading to points, however, pinning Buffalo inside their own 10-yard line gave Todd Bowles’ defense a chance to harass Josh Allen in the end zone. Rather than submit to taking a safety, Allen two-hand shovel passed the ball forward for a Jacob Parrish interception. Short-field goals can be game-losing plays, but for now, exist as the only points in the game. 3-0, Bucs

Kick coverage was optional for Tampa’s ensuing kickoff and Buffalo would start the drive across midfield and finish with the game’s first touchdown. Good field position, followed up by a dropped interception, and a fourth down conversion, all worked in tandem to lead to a touchdown-scoring Josh Allen quarterback sneak. 7-3, Bills.

Second Quarter:

The Buccaneers’ third drive, which really felt more like a second drive after drive one and two were only slightly separated by by Buffalo politely giving the ball back to Tampa Bay, was more positive production. Highlighted by the team’s running game, Baker Mayfield taking part in it for the first time in a month, the Buccaneers nabbed their first touchdown and snatched back the lead. Mayfield’s scamper and flip into the end zone moves the score to 10-7, Buccaneers.

gettyimages-2247011707.jpg

Leads are born everyday— Born shortly after Tampa’s lead would be a Buffalo Bill lead. Josh Allen launching a vintage heave-ho to Tyrell Shavers wowed fans in attendance and will likely do the same for NFL fans watching highlights tonight— Another score in a blossoming shootout. 14-10, Bills.

More bullets would fly on the Buccaneers’ next drive. Sean tucker, who has had a consistent bid placed for best third string running back in the league, reminded fans that— off the bench— he has break away ability. Tucker bouncing off-tackle right sprinted down the sideline for another Tampa Bay score. 17-14, Baker’s Bunch.

Attempting to mount another consecutive response, the Bills’ offense put the ball in the hands of their star. Josh Allen, on a fourth down, maneuvering the pocket— A Bills’ fan’s dream, however, not so much on this occasion. A late pass popped up over the middle for a SirVocea Dennis interception, the first of his career.

In a second quarter full of eye-catching plays, Josh Allen’s next bite at the apple would feature another. Bucs’ fans know as well as anyone— Third down + Todd Bowles = Blitz. Unfortunately the Bills were aware as well, calling a screen pass to beat the pressure which sprung Ty Johnson for a 52-yard touchdown. 21-17, Buffalo.

Against the clock, Tampa’s offense found a two-minute drill and three points— softening the blow of Buffalo’s score. 21-20, Bills.

Third Quarter:

The game’s third quarter would pass the 12-minute mark before its first jolt. Following a failed possession for both teams, Tampa Bay would punt to the Bills’ newly acquired special teamer Mecole Hardman. Hardman would put the ball on the ground for perennial blocker/special teamer Ryan Miller to fall on. Remaining in possession, Tampa Bay used their new found 50+ yards of field position to add more points. Sean Tucker, campaigning for an increased role, hopped on Tristan Wirfs’ hip for his second touchdown of the game. Two-point conversion, no good. 26-21, Buccaaneers.

gettyimages-2247017140.jpg

Buffalo’s offense, hit or miss to this point in the game, continued to reap the blessing of outstanding field position. The Buccaneers’ kickoff coverage unit, set up to have a long week, continued its ineptitude on the following kickoff. More elite starting field position Josh Allen— Another Matt Prater kick. 26-24, Tampa Bay.

The Buccaneers’ next drive would feature Baker Mayfield’s first grave mistake— An interception, giving Buffalo more of the fantastic starting field position it had made customary. One Anthony Nelson play in coverage later, and the Bills recaptured the lead. The game’s seventh lead change left the score at 31-26, Allen’s Bills.

Fourth Quarter:

The Buccaneers cannot, will not, and shall not convert on two-point conversions in 2025. The Buccaneers would miss their second attempt near the 12-minute mark of the fourth quarter. The good news for Bucs’ fans? In order to fail at a two- point attempt, you need to score a touchdown first and for the third time in the game Sean Tucker did— A pass from Baker Mayfield, giving the Buccaneers another small lead. 32-31, Tampa Bay.

gettyimages-2247017207.jpg

The small lead would not stand long. Back on offense and back into the end zone went Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills’ offense on the ensuing drive. Josh Allen’s second touchdown run of the contest gave the home team a five point lead. 37-32, Buffalo.

The sequence that would follow will be good conversational fodder for fans and pundits alike over the next several days. An incomplete pass on third and short gave Todd Bowles an opportunity to make a decision. The options— Do I trust my offense that has 32 points scored in the game, to pick up a short fourth down? Or do I punt the ball away and trust my defense that has conceded 37 points to get the ball back for my team?

Todd Bowles chose his defense.

Hindsight may be 20/20 but even the foresight of a nearsighted individual could’ve seen the obvious the scenario that was moments away from playing out. Josh Allen got ball, laughed at Todd Bowles for giving it back to him, and emphatically marched down the field, stamping the Buccaneers’ defense into the ground along the way. Touchdown, game, 6-4, questions.

Buccaneers at Bills: Inactives for Week 11

gettyimages-2237618156.jpg

The 6-3 Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be in Buffalo this week to take on the 6-3 Bills Sunday afternoon. The Bucs are coming off a bad loss at home to the Patriots last, and will need to figure out a way to get back on the winning side of things this week on the road. But it won’t be easy as they will have to figure out a way to overcome injuries of key players once again.

The Bucs will once again be without wide receiver Chris Godwin and running back Bucky Irving. The second-year running back was seen at practice this week with his teammates and many from the media reported on it. Some may have felt optimistic of a potential return this week but there was just no realistic chance at rushing him back (no pun intended).

Defensively, veteran pass rusher Haason Reddick will not play again this afternoon following his leg injury a several weeks back in Detroit.

Buccaneers sign special teams ace to practice squad

imagn-24888985.jpg

The Buccaneers made a rare special teams-oriented move Friday, signing former All-Pro J.T. Gray to the practice squad.

The 29-year-old Gray, an 8th-year safety who’s played 98 career games, will take the place of guard Karsen Barnhart, who was released in a corresponding move. Gray spent the first seven years of his career with the New Orleans Saints, with whom he earned one first-team nod (2021) and two second-team nods (2019 and 2024) as an All-Pro special teamer.

After being released after training camp due to injury, the longtime Saints captain bounced around to the Baltimore Ravens and Denver Broncos, but he couldn’t stick at either spot and was released.

The Buccaneers will hope he can recapture his top-tier form from years past, as they’ve consistently been one of the worst coverage units in football. Tampa has permitted the fourth-most yards on kickoffs this year and is tied for third with the Steelers for most kickoffs of 30+ yards allowed (45).

The Bucs are just one week removed from allowing four 40+ kick returns in a loss to the Buffalo Bills. These coverage busts consistently put the defense in disadvantageous positions against superstar QB Josh Allen, who scored 6 touchdowns.

Gray, who has logged over 2,000 special teams snaps, has totaled 103 tackles, two QB hits, one pass defensed, one forced fumble, and three fumble recoveries during his career.

Buccaneers at Rams: Inactives for Week 12

gettyimages-2239815517.jpg

The 6-4 Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be in Los Angeles this week to take on the 8-2 Bills Sunday night. The Bucs are coming off a bad loss in Buffalo against the Bills last week, and will need to figure out a way to get back on the winning side of things this week out on the west coast. But it won’t be easy as they will have to figure out a way to overcome injuries of key players once again against a very tough Rams team.

The Bucs will once again be without running back Bucky Irving. The second-year running back was perhaps believed by some there would be a chance to play, but was officially ruled out this week. Wide receiver Chris Godwin was listed as questionable heading into tonight but he will be activated and suit up for the Buccaneers in L.A.

Defensively, veteran pass rusher Haason Reddick and cornerback Jamel Dean will not play this evening. Dean hurt his hip in last week’s loss to the Bills.

Week 12 Game Recap: Buccaneers lose big 34-7; Mayfield hurt in defeat

gettyimages-2248144000.jpg

First Quarter:

The Buccaneers took the ball first. After a couple of runs and a failed deep shot, took to punting first. Their competition boasting a significantly more competent opening drive. Smoothly rolling down the field, not even deterred by a third down and 20. Lots of Matthew Stafford, lots of Puka Nacua, and a Devante Adams cherry on top. 7-0, Rams.

gettyimages-2248133713.jpg

So what is things didn’t start out too hot, Tampa was set to receive the ball again and get their franchise quarterback on the field. Upon the conclusion of the eternal optimist’s jargon, the Bucs’ offense actually played. The Bucs hit the classic one-step forward two steps back. A nice third down catch by Chris Godwin, converting and reminding Buccaneers’ fans what makes him so essential to Tampa’s offense was followed by Cade Otton single handedly stalling a drive. First and 10 featured a screen pass where Otton missed a block and caused a tackle for loss. Second down saw a pass handed to Otton, he proceeded to bobble it three or four times into Cobie Durant’s waiting arms for a touchdown. Only problem for Otton? Cobie Durant plays for the Rams. 14-0, LA.

Punishment? Accountability? No, thank you. Todd Bowles and Josh Grizzard left Cade Otton in the game and did fans one better— Started their next drive with the pass right to him, incomplete. Second and 10, third and long, punt.

Second Quarter:

Tampa’s hope was the game’s first 15 were the worst 15. Down 14-0, that hope was rapidly diminished. Operating like prime Dan Marino, Matt Stafford tossed touchdown pass number two. 21-0, in a blink.

gettyimages-2248136411.jpg

Trying to dislodge and early dagger, Baker Mayfield used every bit juice he could squeeze out (literally, as he left the game injured) to get Tampa down the field into the end zone. 21-7, Bucs.

If you celebrated that touchdown with some friends, depending on how many high fives and chest bumps you dished out, you may have looked back at the screen and the Rams already had an additional seven points to offset Tez Johnson’s score. 28-7, with a nauseating ease.

LA added another three before the half, Baker Mayfield walked off the field re-injured, and Buccaneers’ fans had a opportunity to get themselves a well-deserved cry during the intermission.

Third Quarter:

The second half started with a penalty against Tampa Bay and an injury to Anthony Nelson— Salt feels good in the wounds. By the eight-minute mark of the third quarter, fans were knee-deep in Teddy Bridgewater time— Salt shaker running light— No points, Rams’ ball. No points, Bucs’ ball.

The monkey-see monkey-do of successive punting lasted until the…

Fourth Quarter:

For the fans who didn’t participate in the watching of this game’s fourth quarter, smart decision. Among the highlights, some Teddy Bridgewater sacks, lots of fourth down attempts, an announcing crew digging so deep for content to fill the void of an uninteresting game they highlighted Todd Bowles’ birthplace of Elizabeth New Jersey for minutes on end, hosted an entire side segment about Aaron Donald (A player that has been retired since 2023), aired an exhilarating Chris Collinsworth tribute, and even a momentary discussion of Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears. LA also managed to add another three points. 34-7, Rams— In a relatively sleepy Sunday night.

The Buccaneers will have a chance to go home and lick their wounds, however, after three difficult games in a row some of their wounds may be too large to lick.

Yaya Diaby finished with one sack, extending his team-leading season sack total to 5.0 and his career total to 17.0. Diaby’s 17.0 sacks are the fifth-most by a Buccaneers player in their first three career seasons since sacks became an official statistic in 1982, trailing only Warren Sapp (22.5), Broderick Thomas (20.5), Regan Upshaw (18.5) and Santana Dotson (18.0).

Buccaneers receive encouraging news on the Baker Mayfield injury

imagn-27668005.jpg

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield received promising news on Monday following an MRI on the left shoulder he injured during Sunday’s game. According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Mayfield is dealing with a low-grade sprain, confirming initial optimism from the team’s medical staff.

#Bucs QB Baker Mayfield, who went down on Sunday with a sprained left shoulder, has a low-grade sprain, source said following the MRI. Good news with an eye toward next week. pic.twitter.com/eBMsZ3up5f

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) November 24, 2025

Mayfield exited the game after taking a hard hit, raising concerns about the severity of the injury and his availability for the coming week. The MRI results now suggest that the injury is relatively minor, and the organization is hopeful he’ll be able to practice in some capacity as preparations begin for next week’s matchup.

The veteran quarterback has been a stabilizing force for the Buccaneers’ offense ever since signing on with the team a few seasons ago, and the team has fed off his competitiveness and fight for the NFC South title. While his status will continue to be monitored, early indications point toward Mayfield having a realistic chance to suit up, giving Tampa Bay a much-needed boost as they push forward.
