Buccaneers 2025 Game by Game Predictions

With Tampa Bay’s schedule now official, let’s predict some games

We are one step closer to football season as the 2025 NFL regular season schedule was released this past week and for the Bucs it includes four primetime games as well as some interesting stretches during the season.

With the dates and times now being official, let’s try our hand at predicting these games.

Week 1 @ Atlanta Falcons, 1 PM EST

Tampa Bay opens their season on the road in Atlanta for a matchup with the Falcons. Last year, Atlanta swept the Bucs and the game in Atlanta in particular was a heartbreaker for Tampa. Despite that, the Bucs were still able to win the NFC South but getting swept again and hoping to still win the division isn’t a recipe for success and not sustainable.

The Bucs are presented with a huge opportunity right out of the game in this one and I think they will have revenge on their minds. This will be their first time seeing Michael Penix Jr and while that can be a bit never racking with the unknown element, the Bucs find a way to beat Atlanta and start the season on the right foot.

Win (Record 1-0)

Week 2 @ Houston Texans, 7 PM EST, Monday Night Football

Tampa Bay is on the road yet again and this time in Houston and CJ Stroud. The last time the Bucs saw Stroud in Houston, it was a nightmare game for Tampa as Stroud lit them up through the air. Hopefully this time it turns out a bit better.

The Texans were a playoff team last year and figure to be the favorite in the AFC South this season as well. This won’t be an easy task, but the Bucs under Todd Bowles have started 2-0 in each of his first three seasons as head coach. It will be a back-and-forth game, but the Bucs find a way to squeak out a W.

Win (Record 2-0)

Week 3, Vs New York Jets, 1 PM EST

Finally, the Bucs have come home. In the home opener, the Bucs will be taking on the new look Jets with Justin Fields at the helm.

Last year was a mess for the Jets and they are trying to work themselves out of that. They do have a lot of talent but there still are major questions surrounding Fields and if he can be the guy moving forward. I think that favors Tampa Bay and they take advantage of the Jets trying to figure out exactly what they are. The Bucs start the season 3-0 for the first time since 2005.

Win (Record 3-0)

Week 4, Vs Philadelphia Eagles, 1 PM EST

The Bucs welcome the defending Super Bowl champs to town in week four and this is a matchup Tampa Bay has had a lot of success with lately. Since 2015, the Bucs are 6-1 against the Eagles including the playoffs, which the Bucs have eliminated the Eagles twice.

Philadelphia Eagles v Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Even though the Bucs have had the Eagles’ number, they are the defending Super Bowl champs for a reason. After a big time win in week three and starting the season hot, I think the Bucs have a let down here against a really good football team.

Loss (Record 3-1)

Week 5, @ Seattle Seahawks, 4:05 PM EST

Tampa Bay heads out to the West Coast and will look to bounce back after their first loss of the season. The Seahawks were a team that underwent a major change in the offseason, trading quarterback Geno Smith and signing Sam Darnold.

Seattle is one of those teams that are kind of stuck in the middle. They have not been quite good enough to make the playoffs consistently and make a run, but also not bad enough to pick high in the draft. However they have some serious talent and playing in Seattle can always be tricky. I think this is going to be a hard fought, low scoring, grind it out type of game. Give me the Bucs in a nail bitter.

Win (Record 4-1)

Week 6, Vs San Francisco 49ers, 1 PM EST

The Bucs welcome in the 49ers who are in need of a bounce back season. Almost everything that could go wrong did go wrong for San Francisco and they are hoping to return to the top of the NFC.

I will be frank here, until I see a Todd Bowles Bucs team actually beat a Kyle Shanahan 49ers team, I am not going to pick the Bucs. Bowles has faced off against Shanahan every year since becoming Bucs head coach and he’s lost every year. That won’t change this time around either.

Loss (Record 4-2)

Week 7, @ Detroit Lions, 7 PM EST, Monday Night Football

The Bucs are on prime time for the second time and are playing one of, if not the best team in the NFC. Last year the Bucs victory in Detroit was one of the biggest highlights of the season. I’m not sure things will go the same way this time around.

I think this is a back-and-forth battle and people will be impressed with Tampa Bay’s fight in front of the national audience, but they come up just short here for their second straight loss.

Loss (Record 4-3)

Week 8, @ New Orleans Saints, 4:05 PM EST

Only the second divisional game so far this season, the Bucs head to New Orleans to play a Saints team who will have some low expectations in 2025. Derek Carr has retired, and it appears that this season will be more of a rebuild year for New Orleans.

I think a desperate Bucs team who has just lost two straight will come out and want to make a statement against a team they are simply better than. They travel to the Big Easy and pick up a big W.

Win (Record 5-3)

Week 9 BYE

Week 10, Vs New England Patriots, 1 PM EST

After two straight road games, the Bucs are back at home and taking on Drake Maye, Mike Vrabel and the Patriots. The past few seasons have not been easy for New England. The Jerod Mayo experiment did not work out and he was fired after just one season, and they hired former Patriot Mike Vrabel.

I really like the direction New England is going. Vrabel is one of the better coaches in the entire league and Drake Maye has a lot of talent. The Patriots have added a bit of talent over the past few years and are hoping to turn the corner soon, but it feels like they still may be a year away. The Bucs take care of business at home.

Win (Record 6-3)

Week 11, @ Buffalo Bills, 1 PM EST

Now the Bucs head to Buffalo to play one of the NFL’s best and the reigning MVP in Josh Allen. This will not be an easy test. Being on the road against a really good football team is never an easy thing to deal with. I think this game is super competitive but ultimately Josh Allen makes one too many plays for the Bucs defense to handle.

Loss (Record 6-4)

Week 12, @ Los Angeles Rams, 8:20 PM EST, Sunday Night Football

The hits just keep on coming for the Bucs as they need to travel to the West Coast to play another game against a good opponent. The Rams nearly beat the Eagles in the playoffs last year and they are returning largely the same group minus Cooper Kupp as they replaced him with Devante Adams.

This game could very well be a coin flip, but I think the Rams being the home team will give them the edge as the Bucs suffer a heartbreaker and their second straight loss.

Loss (Record 6-5)

Week 13, Vs Arizona Cardinals, 1 PM EST

After back-to-back losses, the Bucs are at home and playing the Cardinals. Arizona is a tricky team to read. They have talent and can be a feisty team, but they also have not made the playoffs since 2021. They did however improve from 4-13 in 2023 to 8-9 in 2024 so perhaps more improvement is coming.

I think for the Cardinals though, they are getting the Bucs at the wrong time. I think they are going to be an angry, and re-energized team and will show that in this one.

Win (Record 7-5)

Week 14, Vs New Orleans, 1 PM EST

The beginning of three straight divisional matchups begins with New Orleans. This is a game the Bucs just have to have. New Orleans is likely to be struggling at this point, and the Bucs will most likely be fighting for a division title.

At home, in December… Bucs need this one and I think they get it in convincing fashion.

Win (Record 8-5)

Week 15 Vs Atlanta Falcons, 8:15 PM EST, Thursday Night Football

For the second straight year, the Bucs will be facing off against the Falcons on Thursday night football, this time in Tampa. After defeating the Falcons in week one, Atlanta will now be the ones looking to avoid being swept.

Carolina Panthers v Atlanta Falcons

I think both of these teams will be battling throughout the entire season for the NFC South and with a win here, the Bucs might be able to wrap up the division. Unfortunately, the Bucs are due for a disappointing game that maybe slips away from them and this one might be it.

Loss (Record 8-6)

Week 16, @ Carolina Panthers, 1 PM EST

For the first time this season, Tampa Bay plays the Carolina Panthers. There is a world where the Panthers are in the running for the NFC South crown so maybe this game will be pretty big.

The Panthers were feisty in 2024 but were swept by Tampa Bay. They were also swept by the Bucs in 2023, and I think their win streak against Carolina continues as they bounce back from a divisional loss with a divisional win.

Win (Record 9-6)

Week 17, @ Miami Dolphins, 1 PM EST

Tampa heads down to Miami to take on the Dolphins and by this point in the season, who knows where either of these teams will be. This game could be pretty big for both teams if they are battling for playoff spots but also if Tua Tagovailoa misses time yet again, Miami may be in for a long 2025.

I think the Bucs take care of business yet again and reach double digit wins for the second straight season.

Win (Record 10-6)

Week 18, Vs Carolina Panthers, Time TBA

The Bucs close out their 2025 season with their fourth divisional opponent in five weeks. This game may or may not matter to Tampa Bay at this stage in the season. There is a possibility they have the division already wrapped up but beating a division opponent especially at home is always nice.

All streaks must come to an end and I’m going to predict the Bucs rest some starters for the following week’s playoff game and drop their final game of the season to the Panthers.

Loss (Final Record 10-7)

So, there we have it. I think there is a solid chance this team wins the NFC South division yet again. They have the pieces in key spots to do it, now they have to go out and prove it.

Mike Evans is finally receiving legend treatment

Tampa Bay Buccaneers v Los Angeles Chargers

Mike Evans is an all-time NFL great and he is finally receiving that acknowledgment.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers' all-star wide receiver, Mike Evans, has been one of the most underrated players in the National Football League over the last 11 years. Despite having over 100 career touchdowns and 10,000 yards during that span, very little national fan fare has been given to the former seventh overall pick.

Evans' most significant claim to fame, outside of Tampa Bay, is his streak of 1,000-yard receiving seasons— A streak that actually encompasses not one but two separate records.

NFL: New Orleans Saints at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Nathan Ray Seebeck-Imagn Images

Evans began stacking 1,000‐yard seasons in 2014. As a rookie, Evans came into the NFL with 68 catches, 1,051 yards, and 12 touchdowns. His career's impressive start, proved to be anything but a fluke when his sophomore campaign provided fans with more of the same. While Evans' touchdowns dipped in 2015, his catches and yardage increased. Four years later, Evans had registered his sixth-straight season with a 1,000 yards receiving, tying his first notable NFL record. Prior to Evans' 2019 season, where he had another 1,157 yards and eight touchdowns, Randy Moss had been the only player in league history to kick off his career with six consecutive seasons of 1,000 yards receiving.

One season later, a lot would change. Mike Evans would make the playoffs for his first time as a pro, become a Super Bowl champion, and he'd be catching passes from Tom Brady. One thing that'd remain consistent— 1,000 yards. 2020's 1,000‐yard season was accompanied by 13 touchdowns (his career best, at the time) and supplanted him as one-of-one. Evans had become the first and only receiver in NFL history to start a career with seven consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons— Mission accomplished.

With a goal achieved, a new one was manifested. Why stop at seven?

Simple answer: Mike Evans didn't.

Fast forward to 2024. Evans, coming into the season having extended his own personal record again, again, and again, had a chance to go for someone else's record— Jerry Rice.

USA TODAY Sports
RVR Photos-Imagn Images

Almost exclusively acknowledged as the greatest receiver of all-time, Jerry Rice went on a run from 1986–1996 of undeniable dominance. Rice's 11-straight seasons of 1,000 yards during this time has stood as a league record since (1985 was Rice's rookie season where he missed mark by a mere 73 yards. Those 73 yards kept Rice from gatekeeping the aforementioned record Mike Evans notched in 2020).

As 2024 got underway, even amidst a slow start, Evans projected as likely to reach his mark. Deep concern hit the hearts of Bucs' fans in Week 7 when Evans would aggravate a hamstring injury he had been attempting to play through. The injury would force Tampa's pass-catcher to miss an entire month of football. By the time Evans returned to lineup, turkeys were being defrosted. Mike Evans had less than 350 yards on the season at that point, meaning in order to check off 1,000 yards he would need to clock nearly 100 yards on a weekly basis.

Thanks to a few massive outings, heading into week 18 Mike Evans needed 85 yards for immortality. The Buccaneers, in an adjacent and somewhat overshadowed storyline, needed a victory to secure a postseason berth. With the game won and Tampa's playoff ticket punched, the Buccaneers elected to skip the kneel down and instead give Mike Evans a chance at history.

Pass thrown, pass caught, yards gained, record tied.

Overnight, Evans went from seldom discussed and rarely publicized to a magnet for national recognition. Across sports media and talk shows alike, Mike Evans tying Jerry Rice's record was a feel good story— reminding those who don't tune in to Buccaneers' football every Sunday just how great Mike Evans is and has been. People began referencing Evans as a Hall of Famer –casually– as if that notion was simply a fact. Tying Jerry Rice's record put an instant spotlight on an individual that struggled to find one prior and for a small-market player that spotlight will have long-term impact when it comes time for things like his Hall of Fame candidacy and all-time great status.

A few days ago, Bucs' fans were given more proof of concept when the Players’ Tribune released a video featuring both Mike Evans and Jerry Rice discussing the record that only they share. The two talked football— Routes, how they'd cover one another, and how much they respect each other.

Mike Evans continuing to get his name mentioned in sentences, paragraphs, or discussions that are centered around Jerry Rice will only help his odds of making the Hall of Fame, increasing his status among all-time greats, and up his stature around the league. It took stamping his name in the record books beside the game's greatest receiver ever but Evans is finally getting legend treatment.

Bucs' young runner en route to a larger role?

Will Bucky Irving be featured even more in 2025?

Last year, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers invested a fourth round pick in an 'undersized' running back out of the University of Oregon. That running back was Bucky Irving, who would go on to have one of the more memorable rookie seasons in recent Bucs' lore.

Irving wracked up touches, yards, touchdowns, and memorable moments in his first NFL season. The Buccaneers' rookie dashed through defenses for 1,122 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground, with an additional 392 yards receiving. Irving's 1,000-yard campaign represented the first such season since Doug Martin notched 1,402 yards in 2015.

As the season progressed, Irving's role continued to increase. From September to November, Bucky Irving had just four games where he saw double-digit carries. In the month of December alone, he had another four. Post the team's bye week, including the postseason, Irving had just one game where he had under 12 rush attempts— Highlighted by a 25 carry, 152-yard outing against the Carolina Panthers.

Irving's season may be even more remembered for the multiple games (both road and home) where fans began chanting 'BUCKY' in unison, or his unique namesake-bond with the team's newest mascot.

Is that Bucky or Ducky?

It’s Ducky Irving! pic.twitter.com/9kiKDWRXvn

— Tampa Bay Buccaneers (@Buccaneers) December 31, 2024

With year two loading in, fans were hoping to get something similar to year one. Skip Pete, Bucky Irving's position coach, recently offered a glimpse into the potential difference between 2024 Bucky Irving and the 2025 edition.

"At the beginning [of last season], he wasn’t really in enough shape to play an entire game, or even three-quarters of a game... You had to monitor kind of how many snaps he took... As the season went along I think he got in a little better shape."

It should be an intriguing thought for any Bucs' fan— If Bucky Irving was able to do things no Buccaneers' back had done in nearly 10 years without being in the best of shape, what will he be able to do at his peak?

If Tampa's young back takes the step forward Skip Pete is alluding to, than the runners behind him become extremely worth noting.

2025 is a contract year for Rachaad White. White has gone from rotational player to starter and will potentially be sliding back into a rotational role moving forward. While that trajectory isn't necessarily appealing, White has flashed enough throughout his tenure that he will want to establish himself this season— Earning a prime second contract in free agency.

Even Sean Tucker, who is buried deep on Tampa Bay's depth chart, is still a player who has taken full advantage of his highly limited opportunities. He has consistently looked like a player who deserves more playing time— More than Irving or White?Perhaps not, however, could Tucker be a contributor in a different situation? So far it would appear so.

The Buccaneers will be heading into 2025 with a stacked running back room and apparently a chance to see an improved version of their lead horse.

Are the Saints no longer Tampa Bay’s biggest rival?

NFL: Atlanta Falcons at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Nathan Ray Seebeck-Imagn Images

A Buccaneers’ defender was recently asked who he views as Tampa Bay’s biggest rival and his answer may surprise some.

Most Tampa Bay fans, if prompted to speak on the matter, would confidently say the New Orleans Saints are not only the Buccaneers’ biggest rival but most hated opponent. The Rivalry cuts deep for fans who had the pleasure of watching New Orleans run the NFC South from 2017-2020 when they proceeded to secure four consecutive division titles and win at least 11 games in each of those four seasons.

The script has flipped in recent years, as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have run off four-straight NFC South championships of their own— Tying those Saints for the most consecutive NFC South titles. The turning point moment is very clearly definable. After running through the Buccaneers like a swinging hammer through wet cardboard during the 2020 regular season, the two teams matched up again in the playoffs. For the Buccaneers, the third time was the charm. Tampa Bay intercepted Drew Brees three times (including intercepting his last career pass), forced four turnovers, and got themselves a 30-20 victory. In the smallest of pictures, that performance allowed the Buccaneers to advance— They would take on the Green Bay Packers a week later in the NFC Championship. From a broad vantage point, that day was representative of Tampa Bay staking their claim as the new head of the table in the NFC South.

Prior to that Divisional weekend, the Bucs had only beaten New Orleans one time since 2017. Since Tampa Bay’s dismantling of Drew Brees that day, the Buccaneers have gone 5-3 against the Saints, far from perfect, but a substantial improvement.

While a rivalry wouldn’t exist without the Saints winning games (it’s hard to have a rivalry with an inferior opponent), New Orleans versus Tampa Bay runs deeper than just on-field competition. Saints players have found ways to take offseason shots at the Bucs, the head-to-head matchups between the two teams have often been riddled with trash-talking, physical play, and even fisticuffs— For years, the general atmosphere of the contests have been chippy, to say the least.

It isn’t often, however, that fans get a behind-the-scenes look at a rivalry through a player’s lens. That’s what Bucs’ fans received yesterday, when outside linebacker Yaya Diaby was interviewed on the MrBucsNation podcast. Diaby was asked if he and others on the team view the New Orleans Saints as their biggest rivals. Diaby responded by saying,

“I’m starting to think that it’s Atlanta. It’s always something with Atlanta that just gives us a hard time... Last year, we didn’t get one win on them, the year before we split a win... I feel like it’s Atlanta.”

While this may be a surprising take for a lot of Buccaneers’ fans to hear, the claim does come with a bit of merit. Tampa Bay has not swept the Falcons since 2021. Conversely, the Buccaneers swept the Saints last season and have swept them in two of the last three. New Orleans hasn't beaten the Buccaneers twice in a season since Todd Bowles took over as head coach. Bowles is actually 5-1 against New Orleans. Atlanta, however— as Diaby alluded to, swept the Buccaneers just last year.

Tampa's playoff victory in 2020 represented a changing of the guard in the NFC South, with that change has come new feuds, new opposition, and perhaps a new antagonist in the story of Tampa Bay football.

AFC North team has reported interest in former Buccaneers sixth round pick

Pittsburgh Steelers v Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Could Trey Palmer be on the move?

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have had the good fortune of exceptional depth at wide receiver position for the better part of the last decade. With that depth comes opportunities to shop talent to the rest of the league.

A report has surfaced that the Pittsburgh Steelers are interested in Tampa Bay Bucs receiver Trey Palmer.

The Steelers have checked in with the Buccaneers regarding WR Trey Palmer

— Zachary Smith (@ZacharySmithPGH) May 30, 2025

Palmer was drafted by the Buccaneers in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. As a rookie Palmer showed promise, scooping up 39 catches for 385 yards and three touchdowns. Palmer also gave the Buccaneers a high-tier playoff highlight when he showcased his elite speed on a 56-yard catch-and-run score against the Eagles.

In his second season, Trey Palmer fell victim to the dreaded sophmore slump— Posting just 12 catches, 172 yards, and a touchdown. In a year where both of Tampa's top horses missed significant time due to injury, Palmer should have had a more prominent role. Rather than step up he seemed to regress slightly, failing to find his footing in New offensive coordinator Liam Coen's scheme.

Heading into year three, the Buccaneers have tremendous depth behind and in front of Palmer and may wind up cutting a quality player or two at the position by camp's end. Palmer remains a 6-foot tall wide receiver who ran a 4.33 40-yard dash at the Combine. He is a young player with traits who has also stacked some on-field performances to reinforce those traits. If he has value to other teams around the league it may do the Buccaneers some good to explore it.
