New Browns CB Tyson Campbell brings 2 needed skills and more to Cleveland’s defense

gettyimages-2229302801.jpg

The Cleveland Browns have officially acquired CB Tyson Campbell in a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Wednesday night. The Browns traded CB Greg Newsome and a 2026 6th-round pick to the Jaguars for Campbell and a 2026 7th-round pick. Though it’s a tad bittersweet to see Newsome leave, the team believes that Campbell is a much better fit for what Jim Schwartz and Cleveland’s defense does on a down-by-down basis.

Campbell’s top-notch physicality at both the line of scrimmage and at the catch point were two of the biggest factors in why Andrew Berry and Co. pushed for the swap. At 6’1”, 195 pounds, Tyson Campbell has the type of above-average arm length, wingspan, and aggressiveness that the Browns have grown to love over the past few seasons at cornerback.

It’s fairly obvious that they value these types of players over the smaller, twitchier-type of guys like Newsome, who rely on recovery speed and “ball skills” to break up passes downfield.

Campbell is a much, much better schematic fit for the team in comparison to Newsome, and his presence will also allow Denzel Ward to stick to the boundary side of the field (where he’s at his best), as Campbell is a career-field or outside corner.

Tyson Campbell is also one of the best tackling cornerbacks in the league, and he continues to be an asset against the run regardless of where he lines up. Jacksonville even played him in the box quite a bit in obvious run situations. His average tackling grade of 75.4 is top 5 in the league, and his overall run defense grade of 87.7 is second to none as well.

Though Campbell isn’t as position-flexible as Newsome or Ward, he’ll allow the defense to get back to doing what it wants to do with the type of personnel that it wants to do it with in the secondary. The Browns had a tough time dealing with the injury to Martin Emerson Jr. over the first part of the year, and now they’ll be able to feel confident at that spot going forward.

Campbell could also end up being cheaper for the team over the next few seasons, as Newsome was in a contract year, and will most likely want a higher base salary amount than Campbell is currently working with in 2026 and beyond.

Overall, this wasn’t the type of trade that could be subjected to the argument of “If Campbell was so good, then why did Jacksonville get rid of him?”. It’s simply a preferred personnel-type/scheme fit move that could end up coming with the bonus of being less expensive for Cleveland over the course of Campbell’s second contract.

Browns fans should be excited about the fact that pressing at the LOS could be more effective as well with Campbell’s physicality and length when dealing with bigger, AFC North-style wide receivers like Tee Higgins and D.K. Metcalf going forward.

This was an A+ move for Cleveland on paper. Let’s hope it plays out that way in real life.

Browns, Steelers injuries: PIT starters still out, Shelby Harris returns while DB sits for CLE

gettyimages-2236790290.jpg

So much seems to have changed since the Cleveland Browns late-game loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 5 in London. The negativity following the game was a precursor to QB Joe Flacco and CB Greg Newsome II being dealt away. The Browns quarterback room lacks a true veteran, while Newsome brought great energy to the Cleveland defense.

Now, the Browns travel to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 6, looking for a chance to right their season. As always, health will play a big role in the game. Cleveland had one player out on Wednesday, while Pittsburgh has two key starters missing due to injuries.

Thursday’s report showed a couple of changes (in bold below):

Browns Injury Report

  • DT Shelby Harris – Rest, Knee – DNP to Limited
  • S Damontae Kazee – Illness – Added as DNP
  • OL Joel Bitonio – Rest – Limited to Full
  • OL Jack Conklin – Rest – Added as Limited
  • WR Malchi Corley – Groin – Limited
  • DT Maliek Collins – Rest – Limited to Full
  • S Grant Delpit – Ankle – Full
  • DE Myles Garrett – Ankle – Limited
  • DT Mike Hall Jr. – Knee – Limited
  • OT KT Leveston – Calf – Limited
  • TE David Njoku – Knee – Full
  • OL Ethan Pocic – Neck – Limited to Full
  • RB Raheim Sanders – Ankle, knee – Added as Full
  • CB Denzel Ward – Hip – Limited to Full

Steelers Injury Report

  • WR Calvin Austin – Shoulder – DNP
  • CB Jalen Ramsey – Hamstring – DNP
  • CB Darius Slay – Rest – DNP to Full
  • LB TJ Watt – Rest – DNP to Full
  • DT Cam Heyward – Rest – Limited to DNP
  • WR Ben Skowronek – Illness – Limited to Full
  • LB Alonzo Highsmith – Ankle – Limited to Full
  • CB Joey Porter Jr. – Hamstring – Full
  • RB Jaylen Warren – Knee – Full
  • WR DK Metcalf – Rest – Added as DNP

Having a veteran like Heyward go from Limited to DNP for rest while Watt and Slay went from DNP to Full is an interesting way of taking care of the veterans. Austin and Ramsey are the big names on Pittsburgh’s list.

Browns, Steelers injuries: 2 ruled out, 1 starter ques. in Week 6

imagn-26702727.jpg

At one point, the Cleveland Browns had 14 players on their injury/participation report for Week 6 versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. As Friday preparations give way to the weekend, just one player ended up with an injury designation heading into the game, with only one other player limited in practice for Cleveland.

Similarly, the Steelers had 10 different players show up on their injury/participation report for this week’s AFC North matchup, but only two are listed with game day designations heading into Sunday. One player did not participate in practice, while the other nine were full participants on Friday.

Cleveland heads over to Pittsburgh this week with a desperate need for a win as HC Kevin Stefanski’s hot seat could depend on it, despite a national report about how well the head coach is thought of around the NFL.

Friday’s final game day designations are as follows:

Browns Injury Report

  • DT Mike Hall Jr. – Knee – Out

As discussed earlier on Friday, Hall’s injury situation is curious. Returning from missing Thursday with illness, S Damontae Kazee was limited, along with Hall, in practice on Friday.

Steelers Injury Report

  • WR Calvin Austin – Shoulder – Out
  • CB Jalen Ramsey – Hamstring – Questionable

Ramsey was a full participant in practice after sitting out Wednesday and Thursday, while Austin did not practice all week before being ruled out.

Browns vs. Steelers Week 6 predictions: Cleveland still has a chance

gettyimages-2229767264.jpg

The Cleveland Browns may have suffered a disappointing loss to the Minnesota Vikings last week, but are they about to turn the corner? They are committed to Dillon Gabriel as their starter for the season now, and the running game showed a lot of promise last week. Will they open the offense up more this week? And can the Browns defense force Aaron Rodgers into some mistakes? The game against Pittsburgh is huge because the AFC North could be wide open. But if Cleveland loses, then the division quickly turns into a distant dream.

Here is what the national media is saying about the Week 6 game between the Browns and Steelers:

CBS Sports (Pete Prisco) – Steelers 21, Browns 18

The Steelers are coming off a bye, while the Browns are coming off a loss to the Vikings in London last week. Dillon Gabriel made his first start at quarterback in that game and handled himself well, but didn’t roll up big numbers as they played it safe. The Steelers have played well in getting to 3-1, especially Aaron Rodgers. But this Browns defense will keep them in the game. It’s close.

CBS Sports (John Breech) – Steelers 23, Browns 20

Sporting News (Vinnie Iyer) – Steelers 23, Browns 14

Aaron Rodgers is 15-6 after bye weeks in his career. Mike Tomlin is 13-4. That’s a bad 1-2 punch for Cleveland, which goes from London to Pittsburgh with their hosts coming off a week off. The Steelers found their pass rush again in Week 4 and although they can give up some on the ground to rookie Quinshon Judkins, they will get in the face of Dillon Gabriel often in his true first career road start.

Sporting News (Bill Bender) – Steelers 26, Browns 16

Dillon Gabriel did not make any major mistakes in his debut as a starter – but the Browns will have to take more chances on the road against Pittsburgh. The Steelers had a week to rest from their London trip. The Browns did not. Opposing QBs have 10 TDs and no interceptions against Cleveland this season. Aaron Rodgers can work with that. The Steelers have won the last four home meetings by an average of 10.7 points per game.

Cleveland Browns vs. Pittsburgh Steelers Week 6 Predictions – Do or die to keep the hope alive

gettyimages-1802786506.jpg

This Sunday, the Cleveland Browns take on the Pittsburgh Steelers. Below, we analyze a few advantages, disadvantages, or general thoughts about the two teams before getting to our predictions for the game.

This is the Sword We Fall On

gettyimages-1802786506.jpg

This is the tipping point. Last week, Cleveland blew their margin for error when the offense failed to close out the game in London, and the defense couldn’t stop a game-winning drive.

Now, the Browns find themselves with a a 1-4 record. It’s not good, but when you consider the fact that the Bengals are going to find it tough to win games and the Ravens only have one win so far, that means the AFC North is still wide open. How much do we believe in this year’s Pittsburgh Steelers?

The Steelers are 3-1 to start the year, and they are feeling the mojo with Aaron Rodgers under center. But I also still look at them and am not convinced that they are more than an average team at best. Pittsburgh comes into this game ranked 30th offensively in yards, including 31st on the ground and 27th in the passing game. Even the Browns’ offense is better in all of those categories, although it’s pretty comparable. Pittsburgh is one of the worst teams in the NFL in time of possession. But they exceed Cleveland in the most important category: points per game. Pittsburgh averages 24.0 points per game, while Cleveland is stuck at 14.6.

It’s been rough defensively for Pittsburgh too. They are ranked 28th defensively overall, including 19th against the run and 30th against the pass. They are still near the top of the league in sacks per pass attempts. Cleveland still ranks near the top of the league in yards allowed.

If this game was just being judged on rankings, you’d say, “Oh, advantage Cleveland.” And maybe, just maybe, we’ll see that. The running game looked sharp last week with Jack Conklin back, but those penalties and the play of KT Leveston were unbearable. I expect veteran Cam Robinson to offer stability there this week. If Pittsburgh’s defense has been vulnerable to the pass, then maybe we see Cleveland’s offense break out and pull off the upset. Home-field advantage is such an overrated concept in today’s day of age that it’s crazy Cleveland hasn’t won in Pittsburgh (during the regular season) since 2003. The Browns need this game to get right back in the thick of things. Being 2-3, with Pittsburgh only one game ahead in the win column, brings confidence back as the schedule gets easier. But, falling to 1-5 and chasing a 4-1 team feels like the season is done for.

Quick Hitters

Defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz talked about who steps up with Greg Newsome traded away:

“Well, it would be, it would be Tyson (Campbell). He just put boots on the ground. Yeah, he’s a veteran player. We’ve got players ready in less time than that. We have our intricacies, and we have a few things that we do uniquely, but we also do a lot of things that he’s done in the past. Late last night, watched some film of him, and it’s just a matter of him getting terminology down, and he’ll lean on the safeties and the nickels to communicate to him. And then if we need to, we’re excited about Dom Jones also. You know, Dom is sort of, he’s leaped every hurdle we put in front of him since he was an undrafted player. He played well in practice, he played well against Carolina in the practices, played well in the preseason games. He’s big, he’s strong, he plays square, and he plays physical – all things that we like. So, we’ll see where it is, because I haven’t even met him yet. He just put boots on the ground after getting his physical. So, we’ll see where it is and have a good plan for Sunday, whoever it is. But it’d be one of those two guys.”

Offensive coordinator Tommy Rees was asked about Cam Robinson:

“Yeah, hard week for Cam, right? I mean, you come here, and then all of a sudden you’re going to Europe. So, we felt like he did a nice job during the week. You know, we had a plan going in the game, get his feet wet a little bit, see how it continues to go and evaluate it from there. But he did a nice job for us a week ago, getting ready to play and we’ll continue to build on that.”

Special teams coordinator Bubba Ventrone talked about how the Browns failed to down a ball near the goal line last week:

“Yeah, that was a tough one. We talk about that quite a bit, honestly, especially in our Friday meetings where we’re talking about more like situational type plays and just understanding, like the scenario there. It’s like you get a nice play from the gunner to bat the ball back. Just having an understanding and awareness that the ball’s coming back, and it’s not rolling toward the goal line to be under control on the recovery and just having that instinct and awareness to not dive on the ball and really just let the ball go and down it. I know he feels bad about it. He’s showing good effort, but we just need to better aware of the situation.”

Some other notes to look forward to:

  • God, I am still rooting for Jerry Jeudy and want him to break out of his slump. It if just crazy to think how he has had an impactful drop each week. It’s time for Jeudy to be a difference maker the other way — but will Dillon Gabriel get him the ball? Last week, most of Gabriel’s passes went to positions other than wide receiver.
  • This isn’t the Aaron Rodgers of old. He’s averaging 180 yards passing over the last three games, and also thrown 4 touchdowns to 3 interceptions in that stretch. The key is that Pittsburgh may be struggling, struggling, struggling, and then bang, he finds the clutch play. It’s worked so far, but Pittsburgh seems ripe to be shut down.

Predictions

Here are predictions from multiple staff members at DBN:

Chris Pokorny: “I really want to pick the Browns in an upset this week, but we’re back to a ‘prove it’ mentality. Until Cleveland proves they can score 20+ points consistently, how can we keep picking them? Also, the fact that the Browns haven’t won a regular season game in Pittsburgh since 2003 means that I should probably go with the odds rather than against them.” Steelers 23, Browns 17

Jared Mueller: “While I do not think the Steelers are very good, it is hard to think that the Browns will be able to overcome the emotional drain of the loss in London, the long travel back, trading away Joe Flacco and Greg Newsome having an emotional impact and traveling to play their rival on the road. While I would not be shocked by a victory, I will not be predicting it.” Steelers 24, Browns 20

Thomas Moore: “The Cleveland Browns had an extra hop in their step this week after rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel threw a pair of touchdown passes in his debut to almost beat the Minnesota Vikings. The defense, meanwhile, was a bit quiet after allowing a late touchdown that denied young Mr. Gabriel his first NFL win.

Now come the hated Pittsburgh Steelers, sitting atop the AFC North Division like a colossus after vanquishing the likes of the New York Jets, New England Patriots, and the Vikings! As if that was not enough, the Browns have not won a regular-season game in Pittsburgh since 2003.

Never fear, Browns fans, because the energy is back now that Shedeur Sanders has ascended to the backup quarterback role. Surely, this will be the type of divine intervention that will rally the Browns to come back from the Steel City with a victory for the first time in 22 years!” Browns 17, Steelers 14

Curtiss Brown: “Given how on edge this people have been about this football team the past couple weeks, talking about this team in a positive light feels like navigating a mine field. Anyway, let’s talk about the Pittsburgh Steelers. I don’t know if this team is good or not. They are the only team in the AFC North with a record above .500 but they have a negative point differential. Their last loss came against the Seattle Seahawks, in which they got outcoached and outplayed so it’s fair to question how they are when you look at their last 3 wins.

As far as the Steelers offense goes, it has a one dimensional feel to it but they were able to find some success running the ball against the Vikings during their Dublin game. Outside of DK Metcalf, their receiver room is a huge question mark and their O-line has improved in some areas. Defensively, the unit is old and is not nearly as good as they have been in years prior. Take that information as you may.

Could the Browns win this game? Maybe, but they havent won in Pittsburgh in a long time. Long lay off from traveling from London and trading cornerback Greg Newsome (who was an emotional spark plug and was playing well to start the year) could spell a disaster. But the Steelers have been prone to coming out flat and losing games they have no business losing. Who knows what happens on Sunday.” Steelers 20, Browns 19

Barry Shuck: “The Steelers have an early grip on the division with a 3-1-0 record and sole possession of first place, but are they that good? They have scored 96 points, but allowed 98. Being in the minus column like this is usually reserved for mediocre rosters. Two of their wins are against the New York Jets and the New England Patriots, two trash clubs. They rank dead last in the league in passing yards (798). The Browns’ passing game is not much different, as they are ranked dead last in average passing yards per completion (5.2). So, neither team can throw it. But get this: Pittsburgh has the second-to-last amount of rushing yards with 320 yards. They can’t throw it, and they can’t run the ball. And yet, they lead the division. With the Browns’ defense, they should keep the Steelers’ offense in check. It should be low-scoring as neither team can score. Advantage to the home team.” Steelers 17, Browns 13

Browns, Steelers: Winners, losers as CLE fails over and over again

Steelers-Garrett-helmetgate-DONE.jpg

This is the part of the season that NFL teams begin to come to a fork in the road. If you aren’t winning or about even, any franchise just might be in trouble for the entire season. It isn’t over, but as a club, you better begin a win streak or the schedule will keep moving the the next thing you know, double-digit of losses have accumulated.

RELATED: STRUGGLING O-LINE LOSES VETERAN

The Cleveland Browns hit the road in their first contest against division foe the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Browns defense is ranked #2, while the Steelers offense is ranked #31. That would be a huge clash all game long.

In the end, the Browns could not keep up with the division-leading Steelers without any sort of running back and a shoddy offensive line, as they were defeated 23-9. The loss placed Cleveland at 0-3 in the division.

So who played well for the Browns? Who didn’t?

BROWNIES

WR Jerry Jeudy – There were a few bright spots on the offense, with Jeudy being one. He had 13 targets, of which he caught five for 43 yards. With about five minutes gone in the first stanza, QB Dillon Gabriel found Jeudy all alone as he gained 12 yards on a third-and-five situation. In the second quarter, the Browns had a second-and-seven, and Jeudy gained 11 yards. With 55 seconds remaining before halftime, Gabriel hit Jeudy for 10 yards to enter Pittsburgh territory, which led to Cleveland’s first points. But in the third quarter, Jeudy was targeted four times and came up empty.

imagn-27309451.jpg

K Andre Szmyt – Nailed all three field goal attempts as he accounted for all of Cleveland’s scoring. His kickoffs all landed inside the five-yard line like they should.

P Corey Bojorquez – If the offense cannot move the ball, a team must have a good kicker. Bojo hit a 67-yarder early in the third quarter that pinned Pittsburgh back. Another punt went to the Steelers six six-yard line. Four kicks for 198 yards and a 49.5 yards per punt average.

fighting for every inch 😤@fannin_jr | #DawgPound pic.twitter.com/JpinqCfiCU

— Cleveland Browns (@Browns) October 12, 2025

TE Harold Fannin – Had 10 targets, as three of those were almost interceptions. Fannin is really good once he catches the ball. But the first ball thrown his way wasn’t until 51 seconds left in the first half, yet he ended up leading all receivers with 81 yards. Why wasn’t he targeted earlier? Turned a short pass into 18 yards as the third quarter was winding down, and right out of the gate in the fourth quarter, he gained 16 yards.

FROWNIES

Browns offensive line – All game, Gabriel was running for his life, or being sacked. Three sacks in each half, to be exact. If it wasn’t #90 T. J. Watt, then it was #51 Nick Herbig or #5 Jalen Ramsey. It was a jailbreak most passing downs. RT Jack Conklin could not contain Watt, which is the case with most offensive tackles. Conklin’s replacement, KT Leveston, did little to slow down the talented defensive end. On one play, TE David Njoku hit Watt, then RB Jerome Ford and finally Watt ended up with Leveston. And Herbig basically played in the backfield of the Browns for most defensive snaps and ended up with two sacks. When Ramsey came on a blitz, nobody saw or touched him and had two sacks on his own. The line could not open holes on running plays and had no answer for Pittsburgh’s pass rush. Gave up back-to-back late in the fourth quarter that killed any notion of getting into the game. Cam Robinson did not play well at LT and had two costly penalties.

Running game – With both starting tackles out of the game, this doomed the run game. 31 rushing yards in the first half and 65 total for the game. The Steelers had six tackles for loss, six sacks, and seven runs for no gain.

Rodgers & Metcalf in sync 🎯

— NFL (@NFL) October 12, 2025

Covering #4 – Everyone knows that WR D.K. Metcalf is a beast to cover. It was odd to see the Browns’ defense give this duty to the new guy, CB Tyson Campbell, instead of Denzel Ward. Campbell has a bad habit of never looking back for the ball. This aspect was on full display when one of QB Aaron Rodgers’ passes hit Campbell in the center of the back of his helmet. Would turning around have been an interception instead? This defensive act is nothing new ya know. On a third-and-six in the first quarter, Metcalf took an easy ball and converted it into a 25-yard completion that got their offense out of being on the nine-yard line. Again, Campbell never turned his head. He got 20 yards in the second quarter when Campbell passed him off to S Ronnie Hickman, who was late getting over. Then in the third quarter, he made 25 yards out of a short pass to the right. How many 20+passing plays was Cleveland’s defensive backfield going to gift this guy? Metcalf ended up with four catches for 95 yards and a 23.8 yards per catch average.

Not finishing offensive drives – First three drives were three punts. Then, with 3:38 before halftime, the Browns began at their own 15 and after 16 plays had the ball first-and-10 at Pittsburgh’s 24 with 38 seconds left. The end result was short passes or incompletions. At no time was the ball thrown into the end zone. Three points came instead. Third quarter, nine-play drive to the Steelers’ 35 and three passes for no gain. Another three points. Just as the fourth quarter began, an 18-play drive, yes, 18 plays, began at Cleveland’s 32. First-and-goal at the seven: two-yard run, incompletion, then pass interference and a first down on the five. Incompletion, sack, incompletion, field goal. This offense cannot finish.

Milk Bones – I’m just here for the food

Tight end coverage – Pittsburgh TE Darnell Washington did what he wanted on passing routes. The 36-yarder to start the game indicated that the Browns’ linebackers were going to leave him alone. His second completion was for 12 yards as he came off the line all alone. Gained 14 yards on a third-and-two later in the third quarter.

QB Dillion Gabriel – You almost have to feel sorry for the rookie. Almost every time he dropped back, the pocket went ka-poof! pretty quickly. He was either smothered or running for his life. The Steelers blitzed a lot, especially off the edge, and neither Leveston nor Robinson could stop anyone. Gabriel did find some open receivers while scrambling, but several times when he had to run instead, he was tackled almost instantly. Gabriel did not throw any interceptions, but Pittsburgh defenders did him a solid and dropped three sure picks. He found Jeudy early and then Fannin late. That was the offense. The run game was putrid, so Gabriel threw 52 passes. No, not a misprint. Converted 29 passes for 221 yards and was sacked six times, which should have been double-digit numbers.

Browns OLine severely limits options for offense, Kevin Stefanski

gettyimages-2227123873.jpg

The Cleveland Browns dropped to 1-5 for the 2025 NFL season after another brutal loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road. Once again, the defense did not receive any help from the offense, but they were not perfect either. Veteran QB Aaron Rodgers was able to pick apart the vaunted Browns defense with quick throws and misdirection that kept DE Myles Garrett from having time to make an impact.

RB Jaylen Warren had some important runs, but Cleveland’s defense did hold Pittsburgh under 100 yards rushing for the game.

Injuries during the game came later and really didn’t cause the paltry performance by the offense. TE David Njoku had three receptions before going out. OT Jack Conklin’s injury had a bigger impact, but the Browns offensive line was struggling before he went out.

While fans look for who is to blame, the hope for Cleveland’s offensive roster was obviously held together by duct tape and chicken wire since the offseason:

  • IF Joe Flacco finds magic again and stops turning the ball over
  • IF Jerry Jeudy’s 2024 season wasn’t a fluke
  • IF the offensive line found themselves after a return to the wide zone scheme
  • IF Cedric Tillman developed as a #2 receiver
  • IF David Njoku could be a huge weapon in the middle of the field
  • IF three rookies (Quinshon Judkins, Harold Fannin Jr., Dylan Sampson) could carry the run game and provide a spark to help on a regular basis

So far, none of those things have happened on a regular basis (unless you consider Judkins and Fannin having met their goals).

Many want to blame GM Andrew Berry and/or HC Kevin Stefanski for the struggles on offense. While they share responsibility, the reality is that the Browns offensive line gives the offense and Stefanski almost no options.

Why?

The group is not fast/quick enough to be successful in movement-based concepts. Whether that is screen plays, wide zone runs, bootlegs or pulls, the offensive line is a step or more too slow. Age, along with wear and tear, has sapped the interior of the offensive line, Joel Bitonio, Wyatt Teller and Ethan Pocic, from their ability to get out and move. Similarly, Jack Conklin’s injuries, on top of Dawand Jones’ before he was lost for the season, have kept the right tackle from playing or being able to play quickly.

What happens when your offensive line can’t move quickly? Generally, you plan to play with power, strength and weight. Except that Cleveland’s offensive line was among the lower third in offensive line weight coming into the season, and that was with the massive Jones starting at left tackle. Bitonio, Teller, Pocic and Conklin have all been good because of their foot speed and use of leverage, not their ability to just bull people over with sheer power.

If your offensive line does not have quickness or power, you are significantly limited in what you can do. Even if a unit doesn’t have experience or overall talent, having one of those traits allows the offensive play caller to tailor the offense in a certain direction.

The Browns do not have either option.

Blame Berry. Blame Stefanski. Blame Dillon Gabriel and Flacco. Blame the pass catchers who struggle to get open and catch the football. Blame them all.

The reality is that it is very difficult to make an offense go when the line is both A) not good AND B) does not have either quickness or strength to build upon.

As trade rumors will continue to heat up, the focus in Cleveland is squarely on the 2026 NFL draft and beyond. The Browns most likely need a highly drafted quarterback, a talented wide receiver, and three or four new starters on their offensive line. While the first two positions are more exciting, the line is more important, especially with most of the current players set for free agency (or retirement).

Who or what do you blame most for the Browns struggles on offense? Given the personnel on the offensive line, what do you think the team could do to perform better?

The “Only in Cleveland” parts of the Cleveland Browns stadium drama may have finally come to an end on the Monday after Week 6 of the 2025 NFL season. There are still a few things, like having enough parking spaces, aviation approvals and getting everything built in time, to figure out, but the Browns will be playing in Brook Park without having to overcome any legal hurdles with the City of Cleveland.

We’ve seen a map of what the reimagined Brook Park area will look like once the team gets done building everything, with funding fully secured. All that was left was to figure out how Mayor Justin Bibb and the Haslam Sports Group would resolve the legal matters.

In the end, both sides got exactly what they wanted. The Browns get to build their new fancy domed stadium and Bibb gets a boatload of cash for the City of Cleveland in what is being called a “Historic $100 million Agreement.” The details of that agreement include a cash payment of $25 million in the next month and a half and the Haslam Sports Group’s demolition of the current stadium, at an estimated cost of $30 million.

The rest of the details are as follows:

  • Beginning on January 1, 2029, pay the City of Cleveland $5 million on or before January 1 of each calendar year until January 1, 2033, totaling $25 million over five years.
  • Upon termination of the Lease, HSG to invest no less than $2 million per year over the next 10 years on a mutually agreed Community Benefit Projects totaling no less than $20 million.
  • Parties to mutually support infrastructure plans related to road and air travel with respect to both the Brook Park stadium mixed-use project, the modernization of Cleveland-Hopkins International Airport, the development of the Cleveland lakefront, including the redevelopment of the Burke Lakefront Airport property.
  • City to support the continuing progress and timely completion of transformational Brook Park stadium and mixed-use development.
  • Both parties will voluntarily dismiss all lawsuits with prejudice related to Browns Huntington Bank Field move to Brook Park, OH.

A “win-win” for the two parties involved, now we wait to see if any other stadium drama pops up between now and when the new stadium is expected to open in 2029.

What stands out to you about this “historic” agreement? Are you surprised the two sides came to agreement already?

Browns roster sees 3 added, including a former Dolphin, OL down loses 2nd in 2 days

gettyimages-2231737431.jpg

The Cleveland Browns made a few roster changes on Tuesday, including, surprisingly, releasing an offensive tackle from the practice squad for the second straight day. On Monday, the Browns released OT Thayer Munford from the practice squad and followed that up with the release of OT Joshua Miles on Tuesday.

Cleveland is at a place where they need to see a few younger players get more playing time, but continue GM Andrew Berry’s history of continually churning the bottom of the roster and practice squad.

In the same post where the Browns shared WR David Bell’s retirement, for sad reasons, and the release of Miles, Cleveland announced signing CB Trey Avery to their active roster and adding LB Eugene Asante and DT Simeon Barrow Jr.

Avery was elevated to the active roster for the last three weeks.

Asante was a 2025 undrafted free agent signing of the Miami Dolphins, but was waived at the end of August. The Browns welcome the Dolphins to town this week. Simeon was also signed as an undrafted free agent this year, with the Atlanta Falcons, and spent a week on the team’s practice squad before being released.

Bill Callahan back to the Browns? Team provides an update

gettyimages-1454740209.jpg

All of Northeast Ohio has been pining for an update regarding Bill Callahan and his prospects of returning to Cleveland after he recently left Tennessee when his son, Brian, was fired.

Bill, the Browns’ offensive line coach from 2020 to 2023, was a crucial piece to Cleveland’s coaching staff during his time with the team. He was famously known for reshaping and reinvigorating the Browns’ offensive line and helping lead the team to the playoffs.

Stefanski first commented on Brian Callahan’s firing in a recent media session:

“Obviously I hate to see that news down there in Tennessee. I talked to Brian, I’ve not talked to Bill. Obviously I hate that news.”

As a coach, you always feel bad when you see your friends or fellow coaches lose their jobs, regardless of the stated reason. Despite what some think, trying to coach a team that lacks the talent and tools to succeed in a given period is quite challenging.

On the idea of the Browns reuniting with Bill Callahan at some point, Stefanski said:

“Obviously I think very highly of (Bill)”

But he declined to comment on whether or not he’d rehire Callahan in Cleveland. The way Stefanski went about handling the question kind of gave off the vibes that he’s not really interested in the idea right now.

Stefanski was really excited to bring in Mike Bloomgren this offseason and probably wants to stick with “his guy” right now, especially if the team is planning on cleaning house in the offensive line room in 2026 (which they definitely should).

Could this be the end of the road for Kevin Stefanski? Browns Reacts Survey Week 7

gettyimages-2240677987.jpg

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Browns fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.

This week, we saw the Tennessee Titans act pretty swiftly in firing head coach Brian Callahan after less than two years with the team. Could the same fate be on the horizon for head coach Kevin Stefanski? That is the theme for this week’s Reacts questions, starting with our confidence meter on if the Browns are headed in the right direction. With the team being 1-5 and showing no sign of life offensively, how can you be confident in what’s to come? Even the defense is already losing their mojo.

We’re asking two other questions this week. The first is a flat out Yes or No on whether you think the Browns will beat the Dolphins this Sunday. This is the first game this season in which Cleveland is favored, but Vegas odds aren’t going to dictate whether the Browns can actually put points on the board.

Our other question sets the ultimatum: if the Browns lose to the also-dysfunctional Dolphins, is it the final straw for Stefanski? Let us know if you would fire him or keep him, if Cleveland loses.

Browns vs. Dolphins Week 7 predictions: Being a favorite doesn’t mean squat

gettyimages-2239419029.jpg

The Cleveland Browns are finally favored to win a football game, but that doesn’t mean squat in terms of the recent performance of the Browns. They have lost three straight games, their defense has been more stagnant over the past two games, and the offense had one of its worst games of the season last week. Just because the 1-5 Miami Dolphins are coming to down does not mean the Browns are going to suddenly perform. Take a look back at when the Browns lost to the Ravens — people looked at it like, “Baltimore is back on track, to a degree,” but it ended up being their only win of the season to date. Nonetheless, playing a 1-5 team should improve your odds of getting something going, even if it means the other team is going to mess up more.

Here is what the national media is saying about the Week 7 game between the Browns and Dolphins:

CBS Sports (Pete Prisco) – Browns 26, Dolphins 23

This is the dog game of the day between two bottom feeders. The Browns haven’t done much on offense with Dillon Gabriel playing, but the Dolphins defense will be the perfect tonic. They can’t stop anybody. The Browns defense can. That’s the difference.

CBS Sports (John Breech) – Browns 20, Dolphins 17

Sporting News (Vinnie Iyer) – Browns 20, Dolphins 17

The Browns’ offense isn’t scoring enough to win most games, leaning plenty on dominant total defense led by Myles Garrett. The Dolphins’ defense is leaky and might help them break out of a slump. Meanwhile, Miami’s offense also has been a mess of late, not helping at all vs. an angry Garrett.

Sporting News (Bill Bender) – Dolphins 20, Browns 17

A pair of 1-5 teams meet, and Tua Tagovailoa is on the spot here after calling out teammates following a 29-27 loss to the Chargers. Cleveland has not scored more than 17 points in a game this season. According to Pro Football Focus, Dillon Gabriel is 9 of 27 (33%) on passes of 10 yards or more. Will Cleveland turn him loose against the Dolphins? Miami beat Cleveland 20-3 last season.

Browns, Dolphins Week 7: Betting totals dropping, weather to play big role

gettyimages-455620726.jpg

The Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins face off in what many believe will be an ugly game on the shores of Lake Erie in Week 7 of the 2025 NFL season. The 1-5 Browns vs the 1-5 Dolphins could be a loser-leaves-town matchup between HC Kevin Stefanski and HC Mike McDaniel.

Miami going on the road, and QB Tua Tagovailoa calling his team out, has Cleveland sitting as a 2.5 point favorite for this week’s game. To open the week, the game had a total of just under 40 points (39.5). With the Dolphins scoring 21 or more points in five of their six games, that line was a strong indicator of what is expected of the Browns offense (and a little their defense) in Week 7.

Now, that total has dropped a full three points (a significant number with such a low total). No other game this week is below 40.5.

The reason for the drop? Likely, weather, specifically wind gusts:

Weather.png

There is obviously a large difference between the 36 mph forecast and the potential for 60 mph winds, but with two quarterbacks that lack strong arms, those are big numbers.

We will continue to monitor the forecast to see if updates are warranted heading into Sunday’s matchup between two 1-5 teams.

Curious case of DT Mike Hall gets clarity: Multiple injuries, surgeries

gettyimages-2231649064.jpg

Last week, we asked the question “What the heck is going on with Mike Hall Jr.?” The Cleveland Browns did not put Hall on the injured reserve or physically unable to perform lists at the start of the 2025 NFL season, but the second-round pick from 2024 has missed six games and the Browns roster could have used another player in that role until Hall got healthy.

Heading into Week 7 of the season against the Miami Dolphins, Hall is one of five Cleveland players who will be listed as questionable for the game. With a new injury to DT Mason Graham, Hall’s availability could be needed.

Following practice, Hall informed the media, the first time communicated from any source, that he had multiple surgeries due to multiple injuries:

#Browns Mike Hall Jr. said he suffered a torn MCL and a dislocated knee and had two separate surgeries, including the last one in April.

— Mary Kay Cabot (@MaryKayCabot) October 17, 2025

The timing of the surgeries, as well as the severity of his injuries, explains the length of time it has taken the second-year pro to get back on the field. It does not, however, explain the team’s decision to keep him active to start the season.

Hall noted that he is close to being able to play this week, but did not say whether he’s had setbacks during training camp or during the season that would have delayed his progress.

Browns vs. Dolphins: Week 7 Need to Know

gettyimages-2194705251.jpg

The Cleveland Browns are back home on Sunday to face the Miami Dolphins.

In what was arguably the worst road trip since the Griswold family decided to visit Wally World, the Browns spent the past month visiting Detroit (where they have only won once in franchise history), London (where they have never won a regular-season game), and Pittsburgh (where they have now lost 22 consecutive regular-season games).

The resulting three-game losing streak has the mob thirsting for blood at the first sign of trouble come Sunday. Coming to the rescue, theoretically, is a Miami team that has only beaten the hapless New York Jets, but has seen its starting quarterback publicly question his teammates and has a head coach with one-and-a-half feet out the door.

It is the one-win Browns vs. the one-win Dolphins in Week 7 – can you feel the excitement? — and here is everything to know about the game.

In Case You Missed It

A Final Quote

Cleveland safety Grant Delpit on the difficulties of being 1-5, from reporter Cleveland 19 Ashly Holder:

“I don’t even know what that winning feeling feels like anymore. I forgot that feeling. We’re chasing that feeling, man, and doing everything we can to do to get it back and not turn on each other.”

Browns, Dolphins practice squad elevation decisions for Week 7

imagn-16082532.jpg

The Cleveland Browns face what could be a must-win game for HC Kevin Stefanski while still realistically in the AFC North picture after the Cincinnati Bengals upended the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday Night Football. The Browns roster faces a lot of questions this week, with TE David Njoku ruled out for Sunday and five other players listed as questionable.

Last week, many wondered if QB Bailey Zappe would be elevated from the practice squad to backup QB Dillon Gabriel. Instead, QB Shedeur Sanders took that role with just the two rookies active for Week 6. With the number of injury concerns in Week 7, Cleveland’s practice squad decisions could be telling.

As of 2 PM Saturday, the Browns have not elevated anyone from the practice squad. The deadline is in a couple of hours, but the team has regularly announced those decisions by this point. The Miami Dolphins elevated LB Quinton Bell and CB Kendal Sheffield for the game on Sunday.

We will update the post if Cleveland makes any elevations, but for now, no elevations would be a good sign that a few of the Browns questionable players will see the field on Sunday.

When Myles Garrett talks, the Browns coaches listen

gettyimages-2242062581.jpg

Back in the 1970s, the brokerage firm EF Hutton launched a successful ad campaign centered on the premise that “When EF Hutton talks, people listen.”

Fifty-plus years later, it may be time to add “When Myles Garrett talks, the coaching staff of the Cleveland Browns listens.”

With the Browns struggling to find a rhythm on offense and a consistent effort on defense in the midst of a three-game losing streak, Garrett expressed his frustrations in the lead-up to today’s game against the Miami Dolphins.

Garrett called for more runs from the offense, specifically from rookie running back Quinshon Judkins; a more aggressive approach from the defense; and, if it was not too much of a bother, perhaps giving the defense a double-digit lead to protect.

It was only one week, but consider it “message received” after the Browns spent a rainy Sunday afternoon dominating the Dolphins at Huntington Bank Field in a 31-6 victory.

Quinshon Judkins 46-yard TD!

MIAvsCLE on CBS/Paramount+https://t.co/HkKw7uXVnt pic.twitter.com/tEkT7aMNZx

— NFL (@NFL) October 19, 2025

Judkins did his part by scoring Cleveland’s first touchdown of the game on a 46-yard run in the second quarter. That was the first of three rushing touchdowns for Judkins on the day, as he rushed 25 times for 84 yards to help the Browns total 104 rushing yards against the league’s worst rushing defense.

The defense dialed up the pressure on Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and came through with three interceptions, including a pick-6 by cornerback Tyson Campbell to open the second half. Safeties Ronnie Hickman and Rayshawn Jenkins added interceptions on consecutive drives in the fourth quarter.

Early payoff for the CB trade with the #Jaguars, as Tyson Campbell has a pick-6 for the #Browns. pic.twitter.com/YbpxODCsXR

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) October 19, 2025

As for building a double-digit lead, the offense accomplished that in the first half thanks to a 30-yard field goal from Andre Szmyt and a pair of touchdown runs from Judkins. Campbell’s interception return for a touchdown quickly extended the lead in the third quarter to 18 points, and the Browns never looked back.

It was only one game, and it came against a Miami team that is even worse shape than the Browns. Still, for the third consecutive game, quarterback Dillon Gabriel did not commit a turnover, the ground game did its part, and the defense held the Dolphins to their lowest point total of the season and just 219 yards of total offense.

Can’t wait to see what Garrett tells the coaches to do next week against the New England Patriots!
