Pat Bryant ready to seize opportunity with the Denver Broncos

NFL: Denver Broncos Rookie Minicamp

Ron Chenoy-Imagn Images

After an impressive collegiate career at Illinois, third-round pick Pat Bryant is ready to showcase his talents in the National Football League with the Denver Broncos.

When Pat Bryant got the call from the Denver Broncos during the 2025 NFL Draft, it was a life-changing moment for the Illinois prospect. After a lifetime of dedication honing his craft and a successful four-year career, Bryant was thrilled he was going to be able to showcase his abilities in the National Football League.

“They know all my attributes. They know what I can do, they know all my attributes. They know what I could do on the field. My main focus is to just get to Denver, do my job, and help the team win,” Bryant stated in his draft conference call.

It’s nice to see that sort of confidence in a rookie. It’s often the mental toughness that separates the good from the great players. Those with a can-do attitude that are ready to take the proverbial bull by the horns usually end up panning out better than those that don’t. By all accounts, the former Illini standout has the intangibles to make it in the pros.

At 6’2” and 204 pounds, he fit the profile of what Head Coach Sean Payton covets at the position. During the Broncos’ Day 2 draft press conference, Payton had drawn parallels to Michael Thomas, with respect to his size, competitive nature, and physicality. He went on to mention that Jim Leonhard, the team’s Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Passing Game Coordinator, offered tremendous insight on his mental toughness and football character throughout the pre-draft process.

"When the ball is in the air, it's mine."

— Denver Broncos (@Broncos) May 11, 2025

The aforementioned is lofty praise for a rookie, but it speaks volumes about how the Broncos viewed him during the pre-draft process. Bryant was an afterthought and flew under the radar by most analysts and outlets. Very few considered him a Top 15 player at the position or a Top 100 player overall.

Nevertheless, it takes just one team to fall in love with a prospect and the Broncos so happened to be it. They picked him at 74 overall in the third-round—much higher than most had anticipated. Some may call it a reach, but that’s irrelevant. All that matters now is how he performs and develops over the course of his rookie contract.

And now that the draft process is over, the focus is back to performing on the field when it matters most.

“Once I put the helmet back on, I felt like the same Pat Bryant that I have been my whole life,” stated Bryant after yesterday’s practice. “Finally getting back to football. I’m happy. It’s the game I love. I’m excited to get back on to that grass and play ball.”

In his last season at Illinois, he excelled on the field. He put together a career best 54 receptions for 984 yards and 10 receiving touchdowns. Not only that, but he also had one of the lowest drop rates of any draft-eligible receiver and scored well on contested catch metrics. He also embodies an “Don’t block, don’t get the rock,” attitude when it comes to making an effort in the run game—something he believes will serve him well as he adjusts to the rigors of the pros.

“Just being that physical route receiver. At Illinois, I earned my way on to the field being that blocking guy and physical guy. Kind of add that to the catching game and really all aspects of my game. Really using my size as an advantage will help me at this next level.”

Bryant had one of the best plays of the day yesterday beating first-round pick Jahdae Barron in coverage for a tough catch. According to multiple reports, he looked fluid in drills and caught everything that came his way. While it’s just rookie minicamp, it sounds like he is making a positive impression.

“When the ball is in the air, it’s mine. That was great coverage by Jahdae. Of course, we’re teammates and take care of each other, but those are the catches that I have to make to be successful at this level.”

Broncos announce several roster moves

The Broncos announced that they have made several roster moves after their rookie minicamp practices this weekend.

According to the Denver Broncos, they have signed veteran tight end Cole Fotheringham and long snapper Zach Triner, along with rookie tryout players linebacker Jordan Turner and wide receiver Kyrese White. In a corresponding move, the team announced they have released rookie UDFA’s Kendall Bohler and Christian Dowell and tight end Thomas Yassmin, and linebacker KJ Cloyd.

— Denver Broncos (@Broncos) May 12, 2025

Bohler and Dowell were among the Broncos' undrafted free agent signings, but both players were released after the rookie minicamp practices. KJ Cloyd signed to the Broncos' practice squad late last season and was signed to a futures contract, but the team decided to go in another direction. Aussie Thomas Yassmin was an undrafted free agent signing by the Broncos last season and was given their International roster exemption, but was let go by the team today. With Yassmin off the roster, rookie punter Jeremy Crawshaw now gets the International roster exemption, according to 9NEWS Denver’s Mike Klis.

Cole Fotheringham is a 27-year-old tight end who played his college ball at Utah and was an undrafted free agent during the 2022 NFL Draft. He spent his first two seasons with the Raiders and was on their practice squad for the vast majority of that time. He was waived by the Raiders last season and spent time on the Texans' practice squad before signing with the Raiders' practice squad yet again before being released by the team in mid-December. Now, he joins the Broncos and adds some depth to their tight end room.

Long snapper Zach Triner re-signed with the team after they released him ahead of the rookie minicamp. He is needed due to long snapper Mitchell Fraboni undergoing minor back surgery and being sidelined for most of the offseason. He likely is just an offseason camp body until Fraboni is healthy.

Former Utah State wide receiver Kyrese White was a rookie tryout during the Broncos' rookie minicamp this past weekend and did enough to make the team. He is a 5’10”, 185-pound receiver who is coming off a year where he totaled 44 receptions for 526 yards and 3 touchdowns. He is a long shot to make the team, but a strong summer could make him a candidate for the practice squad.

Linebacker Jordan Turner, who played his college ball at Wisconsin and Michigan State, was another rookie tryout player who made the Broncos roster. He is a 6’1, 231-pound linebacker who totaled 201 tackles, 24 tackles for a loss, 8 sacks, 5 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles in 42 career games with Michigan State and Wisconsin. While at Wisconsin, he played with Broncos defensive backs coach Jim Leonhard and that connection likely helped him get the tryout and roster spot with the team. Now, he’ll look to push for a roster spot and more likely a spot on the practice squad this offseason.

After bullying lawsuit derailed Clay Webb’s SEC football dreams, O-lineman gets new life with Broncos

2025 NFL Scouting Combine

His path to the NFL was not at all what he expected five years ago as a top 20 high school recruit, but the 6-foot-3, 312-pound offensive lineman doesn’t want to be known for his past.

Clay Webb knows something about redemption.

A 2024 first-team All-Conference USA selection, Webb started all 14 games at left guard for Jacksonville State. He was a second-team all-conference selection the previous season.

The 6-foot-3, 312-pound offensive lineman had planned for a much grander college experience. Recruited heavily by both The Alabama Crimson Tide and the University of Georgia Dawgs in 2018, Webb assumed he’d be punching his ticket to the SEC.

But then a high school locker room prank in October became a federal lawsuit a year later that derailed the five-star recruit’s dreams of playing in the SEC — and nearly the NFL.

Projected as a mid- to late-rount talent for the NFL Draft, Webb went undrafted.

But the Broncos saw something in the offensive lineman that they didn’t want to pass up.

“He’s been cleared. This kid’s a great kid,” Broncos head coach Sean Payton said during the Rookie Minicamp. “Obviously made a mistake, and he was fantastic just in discussing it with us and going through it with us.”

“We spent a ton of time with him. He’s the best. ...We feel really good about where he’s at.” - Sean Payton

That “mistake” was allowing a fellow athlete at Oxford High to unknowingly drink a Powerade™ bottle full of his semen. Alabama Circuit Court Judge Timothy C. Burgess on April 2 dismissed the claims against Webb, but that didn’t help 32 NFL GMs decide to draft him.

According to 9NEWS’ Mike Klis, the judge agreed the situation did not show intent of harm by Webb, only negligence.

For Payton and the Broncos, Webb has paid his price and earned a chance to be redeemed.

“We spent a ton of time with him. He’s the best,” Payton said. “We feel really good about where he’s at.”

Webb told The Denver Post he just wishes “everyone respect” moving forward.

“I hope that one thing,” he added, “isn’t what people judge me by.”

Initial reactions to the Denver Broncos 2025 regular season schedule

Denver Broncos v Kansas City Chiefs at Empower Field at Mile High Stadium

Photo by Helen H. Richardson/MediaNews Group/The Denver Post via Getty Images

Yesterday, the Denver Broncos 2025 regular season schedule was released. Mile High Report’s Christopher Hart offers some initial reactions to this year’s slate of games.

Broncos Country,

The 2025 regular season for the Denver Broncos schedule has been released. With that in mind, I thought I’d offer up some thoughts on their upcoming 2025 campaign. Feel free to share yours in the comments section.

Tough road ahead: Five away games in Broncos’ first half of the season

If the Denver Broncos are going to start off hot, they will have to take care of business on the road to begin their 2025 campaign. That’s a tough task, but something Sean Payton and the players should be able to accomplish

Five of their first nine games are away from the Mile High City. Three of those matchups are against playoff teams from 2024. Those would be games against Los Angeles Chargers, Philadelphia Eagles, and Houston Texans. While the two others are against the Indianapolis Colts and New York Jets.

Their home slate is a bit more favorable, hosting the Tennessee Titans, Cincinnati Bengals, New York Giants, and Dallas Cowboys. Though that Monday Night Football matchup against the Bengals will likely have significant playoff implications in the AFC. That’s probably the matchup I’m looking most forward to early on in the year. I certainly don’t expect the Bengals to struggle like they did early on in 2024. That’ll be a tough game.

I’m also intrigued by the Cowboys game which will bring Javonte Williams back to Denver. On top of that, it will feature a high-profile trio of receivers in CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, and Jonathan Mingo. It should be a good test for Denver’s top-flight secondary as it is arguably one of the most talented receiving corps (including tight ends) they will face all season.

Overall, I’d like to see the Broncos take care of business early on in the season. Through nine weeks, a 6-3 record would help them relative to a post-season push. Anything less than that might put them in a precarious situation, especially with what is in store for their final eight games. So, let’s dive into that.

The battle for the AFC West highlights second half of Broncos’ schedule

The upside of having a tougher slate of road games to start the season means more games at home for the Broncos in the second half of the season. Five of their last eight games will provide them with some much-needed homefield advantage, including three of the last four.

But here is the kicker. With only one divisional game through the first nine weeks, the Broncos’ path to winning the AFC West will hit fever pitch the rest of the way out. It’s going to be an absolute brawl for the division title with having five rivalry games in that timeframe. This is probably the most important portion of the team’s ‘25 schedule.

A Thursday Night Football event hosting the Las Vegas Raiders in primetime on Week 10 will be the first the Broncos see of Pete Carroll’s squad. It’s a team which improved tremendously this offseason via free agency and the NFL Draft. I’m looking forward to watching Ashton Jeanty play, and hope Denver’s defense can keep him in check.

After that in Week 11, they will host the Kansas City Chiefs for another divisional game. The good thing is, they’ll get a few extra days of preparation after the TNF versus the Raiders. I guess you could say it’s a bit of a mini-BYE week. Nevertheless, those two will be critical matchups for the Broncos in pursuit of the AFC West crown.

Speaking of the Chiefs, another game I’m really looking forward to is the Broncos’ night battle against them on Christmas. The holidays are always a great time to spend with friends and family. Add a little bit of football into the mix and that makes things even better. The Week 17 primetime matchup could be one of the most important games of the year for the Broncos. That’s followed up by a home game against the Chargers to finish out the season, which will also have serious divisional and conference playoff implications.

Just rub some dirt in it

Favorite matchup: Sunday Night Football against the Washington Commanders

After their Week 12 BYE, the Broncos will head to nation’s capital to take on the Commanders on Sunday Night Football. This is easily the game I’m looking forward to most for the upcoming season. It’s also probably one of the toughest.

In my opinion, it’s a true playoff caliber matchup that will give us a good sense of what kind of team the Broncos are before their final stretch of games in December. Under Dan Quinn’s leadership, the Commanders really improved last season, just like Denver did in year two of the Payton Era. They are certainly not a team anyone in Broncos Country should be sleeping on.

So why do I love this matchup? The quarterbacks. Both Bo Nix and Jayden Daniels had electric rookie campaigns and key cogs in their respective franchise’s turnarounds last season. Getting to see them go head-to-head in primetime will be a treat for all football fans. And to some degree, maybe some bragging rights will be in order. It’ll be interesting to see who comes out on top.

Jayden Daniels vs Bo Nix will be another primetime game for Washington. #RaiseHail https://t.co/6YfNF5xG8L pic.twitter.com/WqoyVlruGw

Final thoughts and musings

The Broncos’ 2025 season looks like it’s going to be quite an eventful one. That being said, it’s far too early to give a realistic prediction with respect to a potential record for them. There’s a lot of offseason work to be done. Moreover, we have no idea what the final 53-man roster will be like.

Though I’ll say this, I think it’s a much tougher schedule than most might seem to think. If Denver can find a way to win 10 or 11 games, I’d consider that a quality effort. The AFC West got a lot more competitive due to draft and free agency endeavors by all teams. Additionally, Denver is also facing a good amount of playoff teams from last season.

There is no doubt Broncos have a good roster and one of the best coaching staffs in the league. They made big upgrades on the offensive side of the ball and their defense got even better. If they can stay healthy, they will have a legitimate shot to compete for the AFC West title. While starting the season off hot will be key, how they perform against division rivals in the last eight weeks will matter the most.

Predicting the Broncos record in 2025

Denver Broncos v Baltimore Ravens

With the Denver Broncos regular season schedule released, let’s do a little predicting of the whole season, shall we?

We’re back on the Denver Broncos schedule release talk, but instead of the first month we’re going to go for the full year. Anything can happen, especially with unpredictable things like injury, but all things being healthy let’s do a little prediction fun here in mid-May.

Looking over the full Broncos 2025 schedule, I am seeing some potential for rough stretches and also some potential for a good run.

I definitely think they could start off strong with a 3-1 or better record through their first four games, but it gets a bit choppy from there. They have got to take care of business against the bottom-feeder teams like the New York Jets, New York Giants, and Las Vegas Raiders then be competitive and split the four other games in that stretch against playoff-caliber rosters. That would put them at 8-3 heading into their Bye week. Very nice.

The final six games is likely their toughest stretch of games. Let’s be pessimistic here and say they tread water going .500 in this stretch. That puts my final record prediction at 11-6 and a fine follow up to their first playoff berth in nearly a decade last season.

Here is where the rest of our Mile High Report staff landed on these meaningless May predictions. Some serious, some not so serious. You’ll be able to tell.

Scotty: 17-0 until we’re not!! (12-5).

John: 17, or maybe 13-4.

Chris: Well, it’s only May. It’s far too early to throw out a “realistic” prediction when we don’t even know who is on the final roster. I’ll say this though, getting 10 or 11 wins would be a huge success given this schedule. I think it’s tougher than some people think.

Ian: The Broncos go 13-4, vie for the AFC West title, and the top-seed in the AFC.

Ross: I’m really digging a 11 or 12 win season this year, and that will include the first AFC West championship in 11 years.

Adam: This is a 10 to 14 win team. I’ll go conservative here and say 12-5.

Joe: 12-5. I expect this team to overachieve like they did last season relative to most predictions.

Taylor: 12-5 for me as well.

Where do you think the Broncos land next season? All things being healthy and mid-May, of course. Share in the comments section below.

What is the best game on the Broncos 2025 schedule?

DENVER BRONCOS VS KANSAS CITY CHIEFS, NFL

Photo by AAron Ontiveroz/The Denver Post

With the schedule out, what is the game you are most looking forward to on the Denver Broncos schedule in 2025?

More schedule talk today with this question: what is the best game on the Broncos 2025 schedule?

For me it has to be that Sunday Night Football game after the Bye against the Washington Commanders. I can’t not be excited about the reigning offensive rookie of the year against the runners-up to the same award. While I prefer good defensive football, this game has the markings of a good, old fashioned shootout between two of the NFL’s rising stars.

Other games on the schedule that could make this list for me would be any game against the Kansas City Chiefs, but also the Monday Night Football game at home against Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals.

Here’s who the rest of our Mile High Report staff is looking forward to seeing the Broncos play.

Scotty: The next one. The Denver Broncos welcoming Cam Ward to the NFL with their top ranked defense. It will be a favorable start for the Broncos and hopefully, they can start the year off with a win for once

John: Week 17 Christmas day with a chance for 1st round bye and division title vs the Chiefs. This game has so much hype potential.

Hart: My favorite game on the schedule is the Week 13 matchup against the Washington Commanders on Sunday Night Football. Bo Nix going head-to-head against Jayden Daniels is going to be epic.

Ian: The London game against the Jets. This is first time for Bo Nix, Sean Payton, and the Broncos to play overseas. This is also the best Denver team to play in London, which will be a huge treat for the fans in the UK and Europe.

Ross: I’m right there with Hart. That’s a massive prove-it game for Bo Nix and the Broncos. It’s time to let it sling on prime time. And it’s a fun glimpse into the future of the NFL. I’m expecting a heavyweight slugfest between these two teams.

Adam:

It’s hard to pick one. The late September matchup with the Bengals on Monday Night Football will be an early season test. Echos of their epic game in Cincinnati last year will swirl around Mile High. The defense will be challenged. The offense just might find themselves in a point-fest. Can Bo Nix finish the job this time?

Joe: Ruining the Chiefs’ Christmas has to be my favorite game.

Taylor: I’ll go along with Adam and tab the Week 4 home tilt against the Bengals. Burrow & his weapons against this defense while Nix the charge against a likely bad Bengals D should make for a very fun game.

What game is the most favorite for you? Let us know in the comments!

Denver Broncos complete additions and promotions to front office

NFL: Denver Broncos Head Coach Sean Payton Introductory Press Conference

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

With a handful of executives being hired away by other teams, the Denver Broncos had to revamp their front office. Today, the team officially announced a series of moves to round out their front office staff.

The Denver Broncos lost a lot of key members of their front office staff over the past few months. After hiring Camren Williams as their Co-Director of Player Personnel, the team finalized the promotions of several inhouse candidates and made one major outside addition to their staff.

According to NFL Insider Albert Breer, the biggest of note is the inhouse promotion of Reed Burckhardt from Director of Player Personnel to Assistant General Manager. This move is a direct replacement of Darren Mougey, a longtime fulcrum in the Broncos’ front office who was hired away to be the General Manager of the New York Jets earlier this offseason.

With over a decade and a half of NFL experience, Burckhardt started his front office career with the Minnesota Vikings alongside General Manager George Paton. Over the course of thirteen seasons, he worked in a variety of roles in the Vikings’ front office. He came to Denver one year after Paton took over as GM. This promotion makes a lot of sense, considering how long the two have worked together. Burckhardt will now be Paton’s right-hand man and one of the most trusted members of his scouting staff.

Alongside the aforementioned Williams, the Broncos also promoted A.J. Durso as their other Co-Director of Player Personnel. His prior role with the team was Director of Pro Personnel which he served as for nearly a decade. Overall, Durso has over twenty years of front office experience in the pros between multiple franchises.

I like that the Broncos now have two executives in this role. The expansion is a smart move in my opinion. Scouting talent available in college and at the professional level is an arduous task. It’s also a position that requires a lot of networking and communication. Two hands on deck in this regard is certainly better than just one.

A third promotion was in store and that recipient was Bryan Chesin. He is now the team’s Director of College Scouting after leading the charge as the team’s Midwest Area Scout for the past several seasons. The 2025 season will be his 12th in his front office career with the Broncos.

One major outside addition was announced too. It also happens to a reunion story in the Mile High City. After several years with the Philadelphia Eagles, Jordan Dizon is heading back to Denver to become their next Director of Pro Personnel. This is another move I like for one major reason. Dizon was able to get quality experience underneath Howie Roseman who is one of the league’s best GMs. That should certainly be beneficial in his new role with the Broncos.

Congratulations to all the aforementioned for their promotions. A complete list of the inhouse promotions, additions, and front office overhaul can be seen here.

What is the best road game on the Broncos’ schedule?

Kansas City Chiefs v Denver Broncos

Here’s what we think the best road game is for the Denver Broncos next season.

Happy Saturday, folks! We are just about done with all these schedule discussions. I’ve saved one of the best for last — in my opinion, at least.

There were three games that excited me the most when the Denver Broncos schedule released on Wednesday. All three were prime time games against big time games against opponents likely to draw a lot of national media interest on top of it being prime time. The first comes early with the Denver Broncos hosting the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football, but the other two are road games on Sunday and Thursday nights against the Washington Commanders and then the Kansas City Chiefs on Christmas Day.

Of the two road games there, I am most excited about the one that will matter the least for Denver in terms of playoff seeding or division importance and that is taking on Jayden Daniels and the Commanders in Week 13. I think what has me most excited about this one in particular is that my step dad was a huge fan of the ‘skins back in the day and gave me quite the hard time in that one Super Bowl we won’t talk about. I was only 8 or 9 at the time, so it didn’t sting too badly.

I’d love to see the Broncos defense go out there and show Daniels how the sophomore blues can be, but I’d like it even more if Bo Nix outplayed in a shootout-style game. I definitely look forward to this one.

Here’s how the rest of the Mile High Report staff think about the best road game.

Scotty: Christmas Night vs. the Chiefs! Ruin Christmas for the most annoying fan base in all of sports.

John: SNF vs the Commanders looks like a blast.

Hart: It has to be the Christmas night matchup against the Chiefs. I’d be ecstatic if the Broncos can dish out lumps of coal to Chiefs Kingdom. If all goes well leading up to it, perhaps it’s the game that gives Denver their first AFC West title since 2015. Wouldn’t that be a great present for Broncos Country?

Ian: I’ll echo the sentiments of the Christmas night game in KC. What could make that night even better is if Denver goes into that game with the chance to win the AFC West. Double dose of coal for Chiefs Kingdom.

Ross: The Week 3 game against the Eagles. Maybe I’m being hopelessly optimistic, but imagine if they go into the Link and knock off the defending Super Bowl champs.

Adam: Christmas in KC is a good option. Technically, the Broncos are the road team in London, where presumably they will be able to teach Jamie Tart what a Bronco is, so I’ll add that one in here.

Joe: Christmas in that place that thinks they know BBQ. KC is to BBQ what St. Louis is to the Blues - neither can hold a candle to Memphis where I live.

Taylor: Part of me really wants to say the Eagles due to the value of playing in a tough environment vs the defending Super Bowl champs, but I don’t think you can top the confluence of opportunities that Christmas Night game in KC represents.

What is the best road game on the schedule? Discuss in the comments below!

Denver Broncos prime time games ranked among the best in the NFL

Cleveland Browns v Denver Broncos

Two games on the Broncos 2025 schedule made the top 10 list, and one more should have been included.

Good morning, Broncos Country!

If you couldn’t tell, the Denver Broncos schedule got released.

To add another story to the list, the NFL website ranked the top 10 prime-time games for the 2025 season. The Broncos had two games on the list, and honestly should have had more.

Denver vs. the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football in Week 4 is No. 8 on the list.

From the story:

“This will pit the NFL’s reigning passing yards leader against the reigning Defensive Player of the Year and a top-three scoring defense in a rematch of one of last season’s great, underrated games.”

If we get anything close to that game last season, we’re in for one helluva treat. Hopefully, Denver comes out victorious this time around.

The next Broncos game on the list is the Christmas Day game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Again, from the list:

“In the Broncos’ return to Arrowhead this year, can they perhaps block the Chiefs’ try for a 10th straight division title? Hopefully, there will be a lot to unpack in this one on Christmas night.”

Denver should have beaten the Chiefs twice last season if not for a fluke blocked field goal in KC. But in that game, Bo Nix outplayed and outshone Patrick Mahomes. The Broncos defense also did a masterful job against that Kansas City offense. Now Denver’s defense is even better.

There is no better way to ruin Christmas for Chiefs Kingdom than beating the Chiefs at home and potentially winning the AFC West because of that victory.

The other Broncos prime-time game that should have been included is the Sunday Night Football game against the Washington Commanders in Week 13. The two best rookie quarterbacks last season, looking to do it again in Year 2 and going head-to-head for the first time, is must-see TV.

For the first time since winning Super Bowl 50, there is real excitement over the Broncos and what is possible this season. And Week 1 cannot get here soon enough.

Broncos RB Audric Estime has an opportunity to fill a key role in Sean Payton’s offense

NFL: Kansas City Chiefs at Denver Broncos

Isaiah J. Downing-Imagn Images

Second year running back Audric Estime has an opportunity to have a major role in the Broncos offense this upcoming season.

In the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos selected Notre Dame running back Audric Estime. He was one of the better between-the-tackle power runners in the draft and came to the Broncos with some high expectations. Javonte Williams did not look like himself after his injury, Jaleel McLaughlin is an undersized back, and Samaje Perine was firmly on the roster bubble.

Estime has a solid camp and preseason and looked set to have a role in the Broncos' offense. However, after just two carries in the Broncos' week one opener vs. the Seahawks, Estime suffered an ankle injury and was placed on the injured reserve for four weeks. This was an unfortunate setback for Estime, and he would only see 13 carries over the next four games after being activated off the injured reserve.

Audric Estime powers it in for his first career touchdown to give the Broncos a 7-0 leadpic.twitter.com/sa3RFYk6rt

— MileHighReport (@MileHighReport) December 20, 2024

However, that would change, at least for one week, when the Broncos traveled to Arrowhead to take on the Chiefs. He would receive career highs in touches (14) and yards (53) in the Broncos' heartbreaking loss to their division rivals. Despite a solid showing, he would only receive double-digit touches one more time during the season and saw six or fewer carries in the following four games after the Chiefs game.

It did seem like he was starting to earn a larger role in the Broncos' offense during their postseason push in late December. He would see 9 carries vs. the Chargers and Bengals, and had 12 carries in their season finale game vs. the Chiefs with a postseason berth on the line. Despite receiving this larger role, Estime struggled vs. a bad Bengals defense and the Chiefs' backups and averaged less than 3.0 yards per carry in those two games.

After those struggles, Estime was a surprise inactive for the Broncos in their wildcard game vs. the Bills. Head Coach Sean Payton told reporters he wanted to see Tyler Badie in this game, so Estime was a healthy scratch. This seemed to cloud Estime’s future with the Broncos moving forward. Being benched and a healthy scratch for the biggest game of the year is not a great sign.

On top of all that, the Broncos prioritized improving the running back room in the offseason and drafted UCF running back RJ Harvey in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. With that said, Harvey profiles as Payton’s ‘Joker’ at the position and does not really impact Estime’s short-yardage/power back in the offense. So, Estime still does have a decent chance of having a key role in the Broncos' offense this upcoming season.

Player Profile

Audric Estime | Running Back | Broncos

  • Height: 5-11
  • Weight: 227 pounds
  • Age: 21 years old
  • 2024 stats: 76 carries for 310 yards, 4.1 yards per carry, and 2 rushing touchdowns

Broncos RB Audric Estime’s 2025 outlook

Estime’s 2025 outlook with the Broncos is pretty interesting. You could make the case that he will fill the Mark Ingram role in Sean Payton’s offense, but you could also make the case that he could be fighting for a roster spot. He has some wide-ranging outcomes when it comes to his future with the Broncos.

As of now, it looks like he is set to be the Broncos' short-yardage back and potentially fill that Mark Ingram role in Payton’s offense. With Jaleel McLaughlin, Tyler Badie, and Blake Watson all under 200 pounds and Estime having at least 20+ pounds on the other backs, he faces little to no competition for that role. So, if he has a solid offseason, he figures to have a key role on the Broncos' offense.

On top of that, The Denver Post's Luca Evans reported prior to the draft that the Broncos have been in contact with Estime’s camp, expressing that they’re still high on him moving forward. Their actions matched their words as the Broncos passed on adding another back to challenge Estime for this role despite it being a loaded draft class.

It appears that they are giving Estime a legit opportunity to earn this role this offseason. However, if he struggles, things could get interesting.

The reality is that Estime failed to take over a backfield that was not very good last season and struggled when given an opportunity. Hell, he was even a healthy scratch for the Broncos' wildcard game vs. the Bills. This was their most important game of the year, and Sean Payton decided to go with Tyler Badie over Estime. If he continues to struggle, we could see the Broncos show interest in veteran running back JK Dobbins or Nick Chubb, explore the trade market, or add after final cuts. If any of this happens, Estime, who was just a 5th-round pick, could find himself on the roster bubble as the Broncos trim their roster from 90 players to 53 players.

He is going to be one of the more fascinating players to watch throughout the OTA and minicamp practices, and especially through training camp and the preseason.

Final Thoughts

As I said, Estime has a wide range of outcomes. He could be a solid power complement to the explosive Harvey, or could find himself on the roster bubble if he struggles during the summer.

As of now, he appears to be the frontrunner to fill the Mark Ingram short-yardage/power back role in Sean Payton’s offense. Rookie RJ Harvey will be in that Alvin Kamara ‘Joker’ role, and Estime will be the power complement to his explosive play. In a perfect world, that is how it will play out, and both young backs will help the Broncos' offense reach that next level this upcoming season.

That’s the outcome I will be rooting for, obviously, but the reality is that Estime has to earn this. You cannot ignore his struggles last season and the fact that he was a healthy scratch for the Broncos' first postseason game since Super Bowl 50. On the other hand, he is just 21 years old, still the youngest player on the roster, flashed potential at times last season, and has the trust and belief of the coaching staff.

Hopefully, he can bounce back and give the Broncos a dangerous and productive two-headed monster backfield this upcoming season.

The Denver Broncos have a couple of guys entering their second NFL season. Which non-Bo Nix player will have a big 2025 season?

The Denver Broncos have a few players entering their second NFL season. We’ll remove Bo Nix from the equation just because most of us would likely vote for him anyway, because we’re all bo-lieving in that guy now. However, there were a slew of mid to late round picks that played significant roles on the offense last season.

Of this group, who do you think will take the biggest step forward in their career in 2025? Vote below and I’ll come back with the results later this week!

Sai’vion Jones will add another unique dimension to the Broncos’ defense in 2025

South Alabama v LSU

Rookie defensive lineman Sai’vion Jones will be a welcomed addition to the Denver Broncos defensive line for the 2025 season.

Securing a prospect with future starting potential was a must for the Denver Broncos during the 2025 NFL Draft.

Their core four up front with D.J. Jones, John Franklin Myers, Malcolm Roach, and Zach Allen performed tremendously last season. Their play up front was a big reason the team embarked on a significant turnaround defensively in 2024. However, the last three mentioned are all in contract years. That’s why finding a developmental prospect to add into the mix was mission critical for the franchise.

Thankfully, the Broncos were able to address a long-term need this past April moving up to select Louisiana State University defensive lineman Sai’vion Jones at the end of the third round. Jamar Cain, the franchise’s defensive line coach, spent time with Jones during a short coaching stint down in the Bayou. Without question, he certainly had inside knowledge to offer on him throughout the draft process and had to be one of his biggest advocates inside the team’s draft war room.

The Broncos had six defensive linemen on their initial 53-man roster in 2024—the aforementioned—as well as Eyioma Uwazurike and Jordan Jackson. One of those guys will be the odd man out next season with Jones primed to earn one of those spots. Let’s take a deeper look at Jones and what we should reasonably expect from him during his rookie season in the Mile High City.

The Denver Broncos really must have liked DE Sai'vion Jones from LSU by trading up to 101 to get the 6'5 280 lbs beast

This past season in Baton Rouge, he recorded:

43 pressures
5 sacks
21 run stops (9th-best)
2 batted passes pic.twitter.com/sglXNxIlKa

— SleeperBroncos (@SleeperBroncos) April 26, 2025

Player Profile

Age: 21 | Experience: Rookie | College: LSU | Height: 6’5” | Weight: 283 pounds

Arm Length: 33-1/2” | Hand Size: 10” | Bench Press: 19 reps | Broad Jump: 9’-11”

Vertical Jump: 33 inches | 10-Yard Split: 1.59 seconds | 40-yard dash: 4.75 seconds

Sai’vion Jones’ 2025 outlook with the Broncos

I’ll preface this section by stating that we shouldn’t have sky-high expectations for Jones during his rookie campaign. The length-to-impact for defensive lineman coming out of college to the pros is usually pretty steep. Unless you’re a Top 64 selection drafted by a team in desperate need of immediate snap counts in the trenches, getting significant snaps early on rarely happens for these prospects.

A reasonable scenario for Jones’ initial gridiron campaign would be earning roughly 25-percent of the team’s defensive snaps throughout the course of the season. That would roughly be around Jackson’s snap share from last year. It might not seem like a lot, but it’s a pretty common threshold for a back-up defensive lineman.

In his collegiate career, Jones moved all over the Tigers’ defensive front. He has experience standing up as a rusher and with his hand in the dirt. With the Broncos, I expect him to be a down lineman that gets reps at end, but also a player that kicks inside for sub-packages in Defensive Coordinator Vance Joseph’s scheme.

A two-year starter for the Tigers, Jones’ productivity as a pass rusher skyrocketed in his senior campaign. He was credited with 43 quarterback pressures and five sacks. A lot of those came when he was going up against interior players as opposed to tackles. He will have a tougher go of it in the pros, but his versatility and skillset should help add a unique dynamic to the Broncos’ defensive front in ‘25.

.@LSUfootball DL; Sai'vion Jones sure looks like he is going to be a factor in the NFL. Size and production who plays the game the right way. #nfldraft #BaldysBreakdowns pic.twitter.com/Di62NDqu8i

— Brian Baldinger (@BaldyNFL) April 14, 2025

Final Thoughts

Jones is a virtual lock for the final 53-man roster barring an injury in the camp or preseason. That will leave Uwazurike and Jackson battling it out for the team’s sixth and final spot on the defensive line. I’m optimistic he can help in the capacity outlined above as a rookie. Hitting that 25-percent snap threshold would be a good outcome and help him get the experience necessary to fight for a starting job in 2026.

An added bonus is the potential to alleviate Allen’s enormous snap count burden. He played awesome last year, though playing 85-percent of the team’s defensive snaps is likely not sustainable or ideal. Jones being able to spell him on occasion and help keep him fresh would also be a big boost for the Broncos’ defense.

Overall, Jones has top-notch athleticism and the physical traits you can’t teach. However, there is certainly room for improvement relative to technique and adding more strength and weight to his frame. Though that’s commonplace for virtually every rookie entering the league playing in the trenches.

A few years down the road, if he can become the sum of all his parts, the Broncos very well may have gotten themselves another late Day 2 draft steal. But for now, if he can come in and do the aforementioned, I’d consider that a successful rookie campaign. If he outperforms those—even better!

WR Troy Franklin is a breakout candidate for the Broncos this upcoming season

AFC Wild Card Playoffs: Denver Broncos v Buffalo Bills

The speedy Troy Franklin could have a breakout year this upcoming season.

After going home and sleeping on it, Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton woke up wanting to draft Oregon wide receiver Troy Franklin. He even texted GM George Paton early that morning, alerting him of his desire to trade up and select Franklin. After making some calls, the Broncos were indeed able to trade up and select Oregon wide receiver Troy Franklin with their 102nd overall pick in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Franklin was reuniting with his college teammate and quarterback, Bo Nix, in Denver, and expectations were high for the rookie wide receiver. However, things started slowly for Franklin in Denver. He was not a standout player for the Broncos throughout training camp and the preseason and seemed to be passed by seventh-round rookie Devaughn Vele on the depth chart. That carried over into the regular season, where Franklin didn’t see his first catch until their week three game vs. the Bucs.

Despite this, Franklin did flash some ability to get open downfield, but had issues simply catching the ball, OR Bo Nix would overthrow him just by a little bit. Despite their chemistry in college, the two seemed to have a hard time connecting consistently in the NFL.

Bo Nix's first career postseason TD is a DEEP ball to his college teammate Troy Franklin pic.twitter.com/F10pVsFyfR

— MileHighReport (@MileHighReport) January 12, 2025

It wasn’t all bad for Franklin. He would catch his first career touchdown vs. the Chargers during their week 6 matchup, and his playing time started to increase. During their Thursday Night blowout victory vs. the Saints, Franklin saw a total of six targets and finished the game with 5 receptions for 50 yards.

He was used sporadically throughout the rest of the season, getting a handful of targets each game, and would find the end zone against the Falcons on a screen play. While the production wasn’t amazing, he was still being used weekly in the offense and continued to flash the potential for the big impact play.

That potential turned into reality during the Broncos' wildcard matchup with the Buffalo Bills. During their opening series against the heavily favored Bills, Bo Nix and Franklin finally connected on a deep play, leading to a touchdown and the Broncos taking an early 7-0 lead. Things went south for the Broncos quickly after this play, but it did show the potential that Franklin can bring to the offense.

Now, entering his first full offseason with the Broncos and still very young at 22 years old, the explosive Franklin could be on the verge of a breakout year.

Player Profile

Troy Franklin | Wide Receiver | Broncos

  • Height: 6-3
  • Weight: 180 pounds
  • Experience: 2nd year
  • Age: 22 years old
  • 40-Yard Dash: 4.41 seconds
  • 2024 stats: 28 receptions for 263 yards and 2 touchdowns

Broncos WR Troy Franklin’s 2025 outlook

The Broncos' wide receiver room is suddenly pretty crowded. You have Courtland Sutton, Marvin Mims, Devaughn Vele, rookie Pat Bryant, Troy Franklin, and a number of undrafted rookies pushing for a roster spot. So, it’ll be fascinating to see how all this works out moving forward.

I believe Franklin will continue to have the deep threat specialist role this upcoming season. He is arguably the fastest receiver on the team and, outside of Mims, is the only speedy deep threat on the roster. He showcased the ability to separate and get open downfield last season, but either failed to complete the catch, or Nix just missed him. If a few more of these connections hit, we would be having a very different conversation about Franklin’s rookie season. So, I am a little more bullish on his potential this upcoming season.

The bigger question is, will he become more than just a deep threat specialist? He is still a young receiver who is continuing to develop and is having his first full offseason with the Broncos. Add in becoming more comfortable with the playbook, hopefully better chemistry with Nix, and natural development and improvement, and hopefully, we see Franklin become a weekly playmaker for the Broncos.

At the very least, I believe Franklin will be a deep threat specialist for the Broncos and quarterback Bo Nix this upcoming season.

Final Thoughts

As I said, I am bullish on Franklin’s upside this season. If Nix didn’t overthrow Franklin, and/or Franklin doesn’t drop the ball, he could be coming off a rookie season with at least 5+ touchdowns and probably 500+ yards. Unfortunately, that did not happen, but the potential for it is still there. Add in a year of growth, building more chemistry, becoming more confident and comfortable in the offense, and I think we could see big things from Franklin this upcoming season.

With that said, I think it will be difficult for Franklin’s role to expand past deep threat specialist. Courtland Sutton will get his usual amount of targets, Mims will have his packages, Engram will see a bunch of targets, same with Harvey, and I think we’ll see a lot of Pat Bryant this season as well. So, Franklin will need to thrive in this designated role and force himself into that conversation.

How Payton manages all these touches will be fascinating this upcoming season. I also want to see the pecking order behind Sutton and Engram in the passing game. Will Mims see an expanded role as a receiver? Will Pat Bryant start as a rookie? What about Vele? Will Franklin break out?

It’s a nice problem to have and I believe Franklin has the ability to force himself into this conversation and have a breakout year this upcoming season.

Horse Tracks: Pro Football Focus reveals Top 3 Denver Broncos players for 2025

DENVER BRONCOS VS BUFFALO BILLS, NFL

Photo by AAron Ontiveroz/The Denver Post

According to Pro Football Focus, Patrick Surtain II, Quinn Meinerz, and Courtland Sutton are the top three players on the Denver Broncos.

Good morning, Broncos Country.

It’s the dearth days of the offseason. The NFL Draft is over, the 2025 schedule has been released, and we are quite a way out from OTAs and training camp.

With little big news outside of proposed rule changes and votes by teams covered in the links below, there isn’t a whole lot to write home about. Though one thing did pop on my radar. That would be Pro Football Focus kickstarting their offseason roster and position rankings for teams across the National Football League.

As many of you remember, PFF wasn’t very nice in their critique of the Denver Broncos last offseason. In fact, they had their roster rated as the worst in all of football. Head Coach Sean Payton and his players blew that out of the water by notching 10 wins and making the playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade. Yesterday, Pro Football Focus released its rankings of the Top 3 players for every team in the National Football League.

According to Trevor Sikkema, the following trio are the best the Broncos have to offer: cornerback Patrick Surtain II, right guard Quinn Meinerz, and wide receiver Courtland Sutton. Of note, it’s worth mentioning Sikkema also had Sutton as the 31st ranked receiver in the league. Which begs the question, is the 31st best receiver in football really a top three player for the Broncos? Your mileage may vary, but that seems a little odd to me.

I would agree that Surtain and Meinerz are two of the best players on the team. Surtain is the reigning Defensive Player of the Year and Meinerz proved to be one of the best guards in football last season with his All-Pro campaign. And while I think Sutton is a quality player, I’d likely place a few other players ahead of him—in particular defensive lineman Zach Allen—who was an absolute monster in the trenches for the Broncos last season.

What do you think, Broncos Country? Who makes your Top 3 players list for the Broncos?

As always, thank you for reading. Here is today’s slate of articles for Horse Tracks.
