The Denver Broncos hosted Kaleb Johnson for a Top 30 visit

The heart and soul of the Iowa Hawkeyes’ offense last season shared a photo inside team headquarters yesterday signifying a Top 30 visit with the Denver Broncos.

Good morning, Broncos Country.

With the 2025 NFL Draft just three weeks away, the Denver Broncos continue their due diligence on this year’s class of prospects.

After a productive free agency, the Broncos have very few major needs to address later this month with one particular exception. That would be finding a standout running back who can become a focal point in Head Coach Sean Payton’s offense. While General Manager George Paton and coach Payton spoke highly of the players they have at the advent of this week’s owner meetings, it was cemented in stone that finding a top back will be a primary draft focus.

The franchise’s bras has met with a lot of backs during the pre-draft circuit and allocated many of their prospect draft meetings at the NFL Combine to get to know this year’s group of backs a bit better. Yesterday, Iowa Hawkeyes running back Kaleb Johnson took to social media and posted a picture inside team headquarters which confirms he had a Top 30 visit with the Denver Broncos. He was one of the backs the team did have a formal interview with at the combine.

Kaleb Johnson is a legitimate RB1

➖Age: 21
➖Size: 6’1, 224 lbs
➖Production: 1,725 Yards, 23 TD’s

He accomplished this in JUST 12 Games and didn’t Fumble ONCE all season (262 Touches)..

Widely regarded as one of the top running backs in this year’s class, Johnson is currently expected to be an early Day 2 selection in the 2025 NFL Draft. In case you missed it, here is my draft profile him. I have him ranked as the third best back in this year’s class behind Ashton Jeanty and Omarion Hampton.

Given the Broncos’ heavy utilization of zone concepts last season and the fact that is Johnson’s bread-and-butter, one can deduce he will be relatively high on Denver’s draft board at the position. Considering they’ve now met with him formally on numerous occasions, I think it’s safe to say the team is sincerely interested in him.

Overall, I don’t have too many questions or concerns about him as a prospect and feel he can be an impact contributor for the team as a rookie in the National Football League. What do you think, Broncos Country? Is Kaleb Johnson a running back you would love to see Denver pick in this year’s draft? Where does he rank on your board? Sound off in the comments section and let me know how you feel!

As always, thank you for reading. Here is today’s slate of articles for Horse Tracks.

2025 NFL Draft Profile: North Dakota St. offensive lineman Grey Zabel

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: AUG 29 North Dakota State at Colorado

Photo by Kevin Langley/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

If the Broncos want to take an offensive lineman early, then Grey Zabel is going to be near the top of their list.

While it is unlikely that the Denver Broncos attempt to draft an offensive lineman early, we have to account for all possibilities and see what is out there. And if Denver did want to pick up one on day one, then their target clearly would be Grey Zabel from NDSU.

Zabel is a total stud who made his presence felt throughout the Bison’s season and at the Senior Bowl where he quickly rose up the draft boards after dominating in both the run and pass game where he brought a level of physicality that was matched by few. You can tell that he played at a school that loves to run the ball.

Zabel is a two-time FCS national champ who started 41 games (including 36 consecutive starts to finish his collegiate career) across four different positions during his time at NDSU. He would earn First Team All-American honors his senior year. It’s also good to note that NDSU rushed for a total of 3,337 yards last year.

Player Profile

Gray Zabel | Offensive Line| North Dakota St.

  • Height: 6’6”
  • Weight: 312 pounds
  • Hands: 9 1⁄2 inches
  • Arm Length: 32 inches
  • Age: 22 years old
  • 40-Yard Dash: 5.3 seconds
  • Vertical Jump: 36 1⁄2 inches
  • Broad Jump: 9’3”

Scouting Report

Strengths

  • Able to play multiple positions on the offensive line
  • His mentality in run protection mirrors the likes of Quinn Meinerz
  • Athletic and mobile, especially for his size
  • A very strong run blocker
  • Works well with his offensive tackles and centers on double teams
  • Good vision in pass protection and handles blitzes well

Weaknesses

  • Occasional struggles with pad level
  • Better as an interior offensive lineman than a tackle due to speed issues

What other analysts are saying about North Dakota St. offensive lineman Grey Zabel

NFL Draft Buzz

Zabel’s calling card jumps off the screen - he’s a technician who brings controlled violence to every snap. The footwork, hip drive, and natural leverage he displays in North Dakota State’s diverse run scheme will translate immediately to the NFL’s interior. When I watch him combo block and climb to the second level, I see shades of Zack Martin’s early Notre Dame tape - not as explosive, but the same understanding of angles and timing.

YardBarker

Zabel’s experience at all five offensive line positions will be attractive to NFL teams, but his physical limitations and technical inconsistencies will be easier to mask if he stays along the interior. Adding some bulk to his frame would help improve his anchor, but he’s got enough tools to eventually develop into an effective starter at either guard or center, with his previous experience allowing him to be a serviceable spot starter at tackle if needed.

Final Thoughts

If the Broncos are meaning to boost their offensive line in the first round then Grey Zabel is absolutely their guy. He is exactly the kind of offensive lineman that belongs in Sean Payton’s scheme and would make for a great replacement for Ben Powers when his contract is up after this season.

However, I don’t believe the Broncos will be drafting the offensive line this early. Look for them to make a move likely on day three of the draft. It’s too bad that a guy like Zabel has almost zero chance of making it to the second round.

Horse Tracks: Mock Draft Friday

2025 CFP National Championship Presented by AT&T- Ohio State v Notre Dame

Photo by Steve Limentani/ISI Photos/Getty Images

Good Morning Broncos Country!

Good Morning Broncos Country!

I messed around with the Pro Football Network mock draft simulator and came up with a scenario that might make sense for the Denver Broncos. It is a bit heavy on the offensive side of the ball, but the Broncos need to get QB Bo Nix as much help as possible.

I’ll have my official first-round mock draft for you all on the morning of the first round of the draft. For now, though, here’s what I came up with using the PFN Mock Draft simulator. Let me know what you think!

20. Ohio State WR, Emeka Egbuka

Egbuka feels like a Sean Payton wide receiver. He runs routes well, has good hands, blocks well, and can excel in the quick-passing game and be a high-volume pass-catcher. I think he can be a productive rookie for the Broncos and help their offense and passing game improve this upcoming season

51. Ohio State RB, TreVeyon Henderson

Getting Henderson at 51 would be amazing. He has the ‘Joker’ traits Payton is looking for and can be a dynamic playmaker for them as a runner and as a receiver. The Broncos have been missing this type of player for a while and continue to improve their offense here with Henderson

85: Oregon TE, Terrance Ferguson

I continue to improve the offense by reuniting Ferguson with Bo Nix in Denver with the Broncos. He is a big and athletic pass-catching tight end who can add some depth behind veteran Evan Engram. He’s a good athlete, and I think he can be someone who excels in the red zone with Nix like he did while at Oregon

122: Kansas RB, Devin Neal

I have the Broncos doubling up at running back and adding Kansas running back Devin Neal. I’m a big Neal fan and believe he would pair nicely with Henderson. Both have pass-catching upside but Neal excelled as a runner between the tackles. These two backs would give the Broncos a dynamic and improved running game this upcoming season

191: Texas IDL, Vernon Broughton

Finally, a defensive pick! Broughton is a big and explosive lineman who would add some depth to the Broncos' trenches. In reality, he probably goes before the sixth round, but in this scenario, I have him going to the Broncos at 191.

197: Georgia OL, Xavier Truss

I’ll be real with you all, I don’t have much knowledge of Truss outside of him being a massive and versatile lineman. The Broncos can always use some versatile depth along the OL so I pulled the trigger. Great analysis, I know.

208: Georgia Tech TE, Jackson Hawes

I have the Broncos adding a pass-catcher at tight end, and now I have them adding a run-blocking specialist. Hawes offers little as a pass-catcher but is a nasty run-blocker, and we all know how Payton values this type of player.

Future Broncos: Kansas State running back DJ Giddens

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: OCT 19 Kansas State at West Virginia

Photo by Frank Jansky/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

Kansas State Wildcats running back DJ Giddens is a prospect the Denver Broncos should consider on Day 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft.

The Denver Broncos will be drafting a running back in the 2025 NFL Draft.

That’s an absolute certainty confirmed by General Manager George Paton at the kickoff of the NFL Owners Meetings earlier this week. As I’ve said for months, it was never a question of if—only when that would happen in the Broncos’ draft endeavors. If they bypass selecting a back in the first round, they will still have plenty of other quality prospects available on Day 2 to choose.

A back they have done extensive work on [including a Top 30 visit to team headquarters] is Kansas State standout DJ Giddens. Despite a productive high school career, Giddens wasn’t a highly sought after player by top programs because he had only played football for a few years. He committed to Kansas State and redshirted as a preferred walk-on in 2021. As a redshirt freshman, he was the complimentary back to standout Deuce Vaughn, who was selected in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys.

With Vaughn off to big leagues, Giddens earned the starting spot for Chris Klieman’s squad the following season and never looked back. One of the most productive backs in the Big 12, Giddens got better every season and put together his best season in 2024 with 1,343 yards on the ground and an impressive 6.6 yard per carry average.

By all accounts, he has had an impressive pre-draft circuit and is a prospect on the rise. In particular, he tested out as one of the most athletic backs at the NFL Combine and has scheduled visits with a lot of other teams. Let’s take a deeper look at Giddens, his strengths and weaknesses, and when the Broncos should consider selecting him in this year’s draft.

Player Profile: DJ Giddens — Running Back — Kansas State

Height: 6’0” | Weight: 212 pounds | Arm Length: 30-3/8” | Hand Size: 9-1/4”

40-yard dash: 4.43 seconds | 10-yard split: 1.53 seconds | Vertical: 39-1/2” | Broad: 10’-10”

Statistics at Kansas State: 39 games, 25 starts, 517 carries, 3,087 yards, 6.0 yard per carry average, 23 touchdowns. 58 receptions, 679 receiving yards, 11.7 yard per catch average, 4 receiving touchdowns.

Film Room & Highlights

Hart’s Scouting Report

Positives:

  • Prototypical size for the position and sports long arms and a large catch radius
  • One of this draft’s more balanced backs with hefty experience in both zone and gap concepts
  • Top tester at this year’s NFL Combine with an impressive RAS
  • Extremely productive the past two years with an increased workload
  • Possesses quality vision and patience and 25 runs over 15 yards or longer in ‘24
  • Improved with generating yards after contact this past season
  • Elusive and shifty for his size with 69 missed tackles forced in ‘23 and 55 missed tackles in ‘24
  • Secure ball carrier who rarely fumbles

Negatives:

  • Like many of the bigger backs in this class Giddens runs upright with a high pad level
  • Pass protection needs a lot of work
  • Despite 4.43 40-yard dash, long and breakaway speed is not top-tier
  • Decent production as a receiver but certainly has room for improvement and growth
  • Given the aforementioned, he is likely a two-down back to start his NFL career

Why the Denver Broncos should consider drafting Giddens

If the Broncos don’t select a running back in the first round of this year’s draft, it will become a Day 2 priority for them. Yes, it’s a deep class and quality players can be had even on Day 3, but the Broncos need a quality prospect capable of seeing major snaps as a rookie.

Giddens is durable, dependable, and had no issues with an increased workload over the past few seasons. I believe he is easily capable of earning 250 looks as a runner and receiver out of the backfield as a rookie. While Giddens does have room for improvement as a receiver, he was effective on flat area throws and wheel routes the past two seasons with the Wildcats. He also has long arms and good-sized hands giving him a catch radius some others in this class don’t possess.

The biggest thing holding him back from being a true three-down back is lack of experience in pass protection. Though that certainly can be improved in time with proper coaching. Nevertheless, his ascent from a preferred walk-on to one of this year’s best prospects at the position is noteworthy. Overall, Giddens is a self-made running back with the grit and skillset to succeed as a lead back at the next level.

Nobody knows how the board will fall, but I expect at least five backs to be off the board by the time the Broncos are picking in the second round. If that’s the case, Giddens could very well be the best prospect available at the position at pick 51. Your mileage may vary, but it doesn’t seem like he will be available in the third round, where mock draft simulators commonly have him going. In such a scenario, I certainly wouldn’t have an issue with the Broncos making him their first selection on Day 2.

NFL Draft Profile: Michigan defensive tackle Kenneth Grant

Oregon v Michigan

Photo by Brandon Sloter/Image Of Sport/Getty Images

The massive Kenneth Grant would be a massive addition to the Denver Broncos defensive line.

One prospect who may interest the Denver Broncos in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft is Michigan defensive lineman Kenneth Grant. He is a 6’4”, 331-pound defensive lineman who is considered one of the top defensive prospects in the entire 2025 NFL Draft. The Athletic’s lead draft analyst, Dane Brugler, has Grant graded as his 26th overall player in the draft and ranked as his third-best defensive lineman in the entire draft.

Kenneth Grant played a total of three seasons at Michigan and was a massive presence in the middle of their dominant defense. Through three seasons with the Wolverines, Grant played in 41 games and totaled 69 tackles, 12 tackles for a loss, 6.5 sacks, 1 interception, 10 pass deflections, and 3 fumble recoveries. This past season, he played in 12 games and totaled 32 tackles, 7 tackles for a loss, 3 sacks, 5 pass deflections, and 1 fumble recovery.

  • Massive human with long arms, wide base, and strong lower half
  • Very strong, powerful player who can bullrush blockers into the backfield
  • Explosive off the snap and has impressive short-area quickness and agility for his size
  • Has a strong anchor and can handle and split double teams
  • Dominant run defender
  • Has strong and heavy hands that he uses to knock blockers backwards
  • Uses a rip and swim move to quickly get past defenders and make plays in the backfield
  • Can take on and handle double teams and allow his teammates to make plays
  • Has the ability to completely take over a game
  • Capable of playing all over the defensive line

Weaknesses

  • Has some pass rush potential, but it’s modest at best
  • Pad level can be too high at times
  • Inconsistent player at times
  • Weight has been documented as high as 360 pounds

What other analysts are saying about Michigan IDL Kenneth Grant

NFL Network’s lead draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah on IDL Kenneth Grant

Grant is a massive defensive tackle with intriguing quickness and power. He’s very much a work in progress as a pass rusher. He flashes quick/violent hands to club/swim for wins, but far too often doesn’t have a plan and stalls out. He hasn’t learned to harness his strength to bull rush and consistently collapse the pocket. That should be at the top of his agenda this coming season. He’s a very dominant run defender. He easily holds the point of attack, despite playing with a high pad level. I love his effort and awareness to chase down screens. If you want to see what Grant is capable of, watch Michigan’s game against USC from the 2024 season. His upside was on full display that day. Unfortunately, he couldn’t bottle that performance during an up-and-down season. Overall, there is some assembly required, but his physical tools are very loud and worth the investment.

NFL.com’s draft analyst Lance Zierlein on IDL Kenneth Grant

Grant is a broad-bodied nose tackle whose tape can run hot and cold depending on the game and the types of blocks he’s facing. He struggles to anchor when hit with down blocks due to his narrow base and tall pads, but he uses his power and length to beat single blocks and split double teams when he finds the crease. He had some sack production in college, and we could see him improve in that area once he learns to create more rush space with his hands. Grant’s game will finally come together in full when he’s able to take his impressive physical attributes and impose his will on opponents.

Final Thoughts

Michigan’s Kenneth Grant is a massive defensive lineman with a ton of upside and is considered one of the top defensive prospects in the draft. However, with the Broncos re-signing D.J. Jones, does Grant really make sense for the Broncos?

I think so! He was a menace in the middle of the Michigan defense and has the upside to develop into a game-wrecking defender in the NFL. You do not find many linemen with that size, length, power, athleticism, and upside, and when you do, you add them to your defensive line rotation.

We saw the Broncos' run defense struggle late last season, so adding a massive player like Grant, who is an elite run-defending prospect, would be huge. Not only does he have the ability to get into the backfield quickly, but he can clog up running lanes and take on double teams to allow everyone else around him to thrive.

Sure, re-signing Jones makes it difficult to find an immediate role for him, but as the Eagles proved during the Super Bowl, you can never have enough talented defensive linemen. Having a strong rotation and depth is key, and I am sure that the Broncos will find ways to get him on the field.

My only real negative here is that he is a run-stopper and probably a two-down player early in his career. I’d much prefer the Broncos to draft a pass rusher with their top-20 selection and prefer prospects like Derrick Harmon or Walter Nolen over Grant. Now, Grant is a top-tier run-stopping prospect, but ideally, I lean pass-rush first in the first round if you’re going to take a defensive lineman.

Report: Broncos had a top-30 pre-draft visit with Missouri WR Luther Burden III

Goodyear Cotton Bowl - Missouri v Ohio State

The Broncos hosted Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III for a top-30 pre-draft visit. He’s argubly the most explosive receiver in the draft and would give QB Bo Nix another weapon in the passing game.

According to 9NEWS Denver’s Mike Klis, the Denver Broncos had a top-30 pre-draft visit with Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III. He is one of the top receivers in the draft and could be an option for them at the 20th overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Per source, Broncos hosted a top 30 visit with Missouri WR Luther Burden III last week. Had huge 2023 season: 86-1212-9.
Fell off some last year.

— MikeKlis9NEWS (@mikeklis9news) April 6, 2025

First, a reminder or refresher on what exactly a top 30 visit is. Each NFL team in the days and weeks before the start of the NFL Draft is allowed to invite up to 30 different prospects to come in for what amounts to a job interview. From there, they will work them out, show them the facility, meet with coaches, and essentially have a job interview. It is just another step in the long scouting process leading up to the NFL Draft.

Burden is a 6’0”, 206-pound wide receiver who is arguably one of the more explosive players in this entire draft. He is coming off a down year but had an impressive 2023 season where he showcased his immense potential. During the NFL Scouting Combine, Burden ran a 4.41 40-time with an impressive 1.54 10-yard split, which showcased the explosive nature of his game.

NFL Network’s lead draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah has Burden III graded as his 33rd overall player in the draft, while ranking him as his fifth-best receiver in the draft. He calls Burden a quick and athletic slot receiver who reminds him of Stefon Diggs coming out of college.

Burden is a quick, athletic slot receiver. He received a lot of quick hitters in Missouri’s offense. He excels on underneath option routes that allow him to combine his feel to create space and his suddenness to generate yards after the catch. He has outstanding body control, giving him the ability to contort and haul in poorly thrown balls. He is at his best with the ball in his hands. He can stop/start in a hurry and possesses the agility to make defenders miss in tight quarters. He has more to offer once he gets to the next level. When given the opportunity to work down the field, he can tap into another gear and track the ball smoothly. Overall, Burden is a fun player to study and reminds me of Stefon Diggs coming out of college.

The fit with the Broncos is an interesting one. The way he was deployed at Missouri is much like the way the Broncos used Marvin Mims Jr. this past season. He was used in the screen game, in the backfield, and as a deep threat. While that skill set may overlap, it does fit the offense head coach Sean Payton is running in Denver. They utilized multiple receivers in the screen game, quick passing game, and took multiple shots down the field. Adding Burden III to the mix would only make their passing game that much more dangerous this upcoming season.

The Broncos hit a home run with their selection of quarterback Bo Nix during the draft last year. So, the focus moving forward should be surrounding him with as many weapons as they can. We already know they plan on drafting a running back at some point in this draft, but they can do that outside the first round of the draft. Giving Nix a weapon like Burden III and then giving him an improved run game would be huge for him and the offenses development.

Burden III does come with some concerns but it will be hard to pass on that upside. I trust Payton and the Broncos decision making here and if they believe Burden III is the guy then I will trust the process.

Current Denver Broncos odds for 2025 season

Kansas City Chiefs v Denver Broncos

Now that free agency is pretty much finished, the Broncos odds for 2025 are set. It’s a dramatic difference from 2024.

Good morning, Broncos Country!

The expectations are on the rise for the Denver Broncos.

There is no better indication of that than the current Broncos odds. Where they sit now compared to even last season is a dramatic difference.

At most legal sportsbooks, the total wins are over/under 9.5. At FanDuel, there’s a slight lean toward the under at -145. The over is currently +125. Last season, Denver’s wins were set at 5.5. Obviously, the Broncos went well above that number, finishing 10-7.

Based on last season's performance, Denver is expected to be even better in 2025. So, there’s decent value in betting the over.

As for futures odds, the most intriguing involving the Broncos is to win the AFC West. Obviously, the Kansas City Chiefs are the favorite at -120. They’re followed by the Los Angeles Chargers at +320 and the Broncos at +360. Clearly, anything and everything would have to go right for Denver to win the division this coming season, but it’s not out of the question. It’s the next step for this franchise, especially after making the NFL playoffs last season. And given the value the bet brings, it’s worth the gamble, pardon the pun.

The Broncos are currently tied with the Chargers for the sixth-shortest odds to win the AFC at +1,500. The Baltimore Ravens are the favorites at +350, followed by the Buffalo Bills (+360), Chiefs (+410), Cincinnati Bengals (+950), and Houston Texans (+1,400).

In the NFC, the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles are the favorites at +300, followed by the Detroit Lions (+500), Los Angeles Rams (+850), Washington Commanders (+950), and the Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers (+1,100).

As for the Super Bowl odds, the Eagles are the favorites at +600, followed by the Ravens (+700), Bills (+750), Chiefs (+800), Lions (+1,000), and Rams (+1,800). Denver is at +3,200 to win the Super Bowl.

In terms of NFL awards, current NFL Defensive Player of the Year Pat Surtain II is +4,000 to win it again. It’s highly unlikely that Surtain will win the award in back-to-back seasons. The most intriguing awards market is NFL Coach of the Year. If the Broncos were to unseat Kansas City as AFC champs, Payton would have to get serious consideration for the award. Payton is +2,500 to win Coach of the Year.

Ben Johnson with the Chicago Bears is the favorite at +650, followed by Mike Vrabel with the New England Patriots and Liam Coen with the Jacksonville Jaguars (+1,000), and Mike Macdonald with the Seattle Seahawks and Dave Canales of the Carolina Panthers at (+1,200).

Virginia Tech RB Bhayshul Tuten would give the Broncos a homerun threat at running back

The fastest running back at the Combine could be an option for the Broncos in the 2025 NFL Draft.

One prospect who may interest the Denver Broncos in the mid rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft is Virginia Tech running back Bhayshul Tuten. He is a 5’9”, 206-pound running back who ran the fastest 40-time at the Combine.

Bhayshul Tuten played a total of two seasons at Virginia Tech and was a productive back for them during that span. During his two seasons with the team, he played in 24 games and totaled 356 carries for 2,022 yards, 5.7 yards per carry, 25 rushing touchdowns, while also totaling 50 receptions for 320 yards and 4 touchdowns. This past season, Tuten played in 11 games and totaled 183 carries for 1,159 yards, averaging 6.3 yards per carry, 15 rushing touchdowns, along with 23 receptions for 81 yards and 2 touchdowns.

  • Fastest running back at the Combine
  • Explosive breakaway speed and a homerun threat whenever he has the ball in his hands

What other analysts are saying about Virginia Tech running back Bhayshul Tuten

NFL.com’s draft analyst Lance Zierlein on RB Bhayshul Tuten

If you spend too much time focusing on the small inconsistencies of Tuten’s college game, you run the risk of overlooking the match he is for the pro game. He’s an explosive athlete with average size but a compact frame. He has elite straight-line speed and easy hips to make sudden cuts and turns. He’s fairly average at reading the front and running with early decisiveness but creates with wiggle, power and speed. Drops and fumbles are a concern, but runners with his contact balance, power and home run speed put tremendous stress on defenses over four quarters. Tuten could become a starting-caliber back with three-down value.

Final Thoughts

Tuten has his flaws. He has ball security concerns and may not be much of a pass catcher, but you cannot overlook his speed and explosiveness. He is a one-cut downhill homerun threat who has the power to run through arm tackle attempts in the second level.

I like his fit with the Broncos simply because he can be a big-play homerun threat at running back. That is something they have been lacking for a while, and I believe Tuten can be that for them. I don’t think he’ll be a dynamic pass-catcher, but I believe he has the potential to make some plays in the screen game and with swing passes. Just getting him out in space and letting him utilize his speed and breakaway ability and get some chunk plays. Add in his third-down value as a pass-blocker, and I think he can be a talented back in the NFL.

Now, the ball security concerns will need to be corrected and corrected quickly. If you’re putting the ball on the ground, all that speed and explosiveness loses its value. Thankfully, this is something you can teach and correct with coaching, but still a concern that needs to be corrected quickly.

I think Tuten is a late third-round to early day three selection in the 2025 NFL Draft and a player who makes sense for the Broncos. I would like to see him paired with an early-round draft pick and give the Broncos two explosive and talented rookie backs to work with next season.

Future Broncos: Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III

Boston College v Missouri

Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III would be an explosive playmaker for the Denver Broncos if selected in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The Denver Broncos are currently slated to pick 20th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Who they will eventually select is anyone’s guess. But as the draft approaches, the team’s leadership continues to do their diligence on a plethora of prospects available. Mike Klis recently reported that the Broncos hosted Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III for a Top 30 visit at Dove Valley headquarters.

Prior to this year’s college football season, Burden was considered one of the best wide receivers heading into this year’s draft cycle. As a sophomore in 2023, he was a second-team All-American and earned first-team All-SEC honors after reeling in 86 receptions for 1,212 yards and 9 touchdowns. Given his success, some draft analysts slotted him as a potential Top 15 pick.

Unfortunately, his production as a junior declined significantly and his perceived draft slotting has suffered as a result. Nevertheless, Burden is an explosive player with a skillset that would definitely add uniqueness to the Broncos’ offense. Let’s take a deeper look at what Burden offers as a player, his strengths and weaknesses, and when the Broncos should consider selecting him in this year’s draft.

Player Profile: Luther Burden III — Wide Receiver — Missouri

Statistics at Mizzou: 38 games, 192 catches, 2,263 receiving yards, 21 receiving touchdowns, 34 rushes, 234 rushing yards, 4 rushing touchdowns.

Film Room & Highlights

Hart’s Scouting Report

Positives:

  • Explosive athlete who can stop on a dime and hit the jetpacks to blow by defenders
  • Successful separator versus both man and zone coverage schemes
  • Impeccable ‘23 campaign showcased elite talent and premier playmaking ability
  • Capable of working all three levels of the field successfully to stress opposing defenses
  • Can be deployed as a weapon out of the backfield as well
  • Standout player with respect to yards after the catch and forcing missed tackles
  • Tape shows superb adjustment on down the field throws and a knack for highlight reel catches

Negatives:

  • Primarily utilized as a slot only option at Mizzou which brings questions as to whether or not he can be used effectively out on the boundary in the National Football League
  • Will need significant technique and effort improvements as a blocker — which is an important factor for Sean Payton’s receivers
  • Could improve with his timing and breaks on routes having him coming back to the ball
  • Will need time to expand his route tree after being significantly limited in his responsibilities last season with the Tigers

Why the Denver Broncos should consider drafting Burden

With Bo Nix leading the way at quarterback, the Broncos’ offense has a lot of promise moving forward. In this year’s draft, I expect them to invest significant resources to adding playmakers around him which will include selections at running back, tight end, and wide receiver. How the team prioritizes them remains to be seen, but we will know in just a few short weeks.

While Burden had a down campaign in ‘24, I don’t believe it was all his fault. Their quarterback play was atrocious and as he saw a significant downturn in production because of it. His elite talent and playmaking ability was evident throughout his ‘23 campaign, and he was utilized more diversly during it. The same traits and abilities he had then still exist now, so I’m a little befuddled as to why he is being considered a candidate to slip into the second round of this year’s draft.

Some have mentioned potential character concerns or a diva attitude as a potential reason. However, it’s important to note that his college coach Eliah Drinkwitz refuted that notion. Moreover, he has spoken highly of him throughout the draft process. I’ll trust the guy who coached him the past three seasons.

In my opinion, his ‘23 highlights were some of the most fun to watch this cycle and showed a player who could make a significant impact in the NFL. My gut tells me the Broncos will go a different direction in the first round, but bringing in Burden for a Top 30 visit likely signifies there is sincere interest in him.

I don’t have too many concerns with Burden as a prospect, but one additional critique would be the overlap in skillset with Marvin Mims Jr. After a slow start to the season, Mims finally broke out toward the end of the year when Payton started deploying him in unique fashions—especially as a chess piece out of the backfield. The potential for some overlap in utilization exists, however I don’t necessarily believe the addition of Burden would be prohibitive to the growth and development of other young receivers on the roster.

Overall, Burden’s elite athleticism and playmaking ability make him one of this draft’s most intriguing and tantalizing prospects. Where they are currently selecting, I do have a handful of players I’d prefer over him. Though he would be a very intriguing option if they were to move down a few slots in the first round and acquire more selections.

UCLA LB Carson Schwesinger has elite instincts and would improve an already strong Broncos defense

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: SEP 14 Indiana at UCLA

Could the Broncos continue to upgrade their linebackers by drafting UCLA linebacker Carson Schwesinger?

One prospect the Denver Broncos are showing interest in is UCLA linebacker Carson Schwesinger. He is a 6’2 1⁄2 inch, 242-pound linebacker who is among the top linebackers in the 2025 NFL Draft. NFL Network’s lead draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah has Schwesinger graded as his 44th overall prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft and has him ranked as his second-best linebacker in the entire draft.

Schwesinger played a total of three seasons at UCLA and is coming off a breakout season for the Bruins. Through three seasons with them, he played in 38 games and totaled 163 tackles, 12 tackles for a loss, 5 sacks, 2 interceptions, 3 pass deflections, and 1 forced fumble. This past year, he appeared in 12 games and totaled 136 tackles, 9 tackles for a loss, 4 sacks, 2 interceptions, 3 pass deflections, and 1 forced fumble.

Scouting Report

Strengths

  • Elite instincts, play recognition, and processor
  • Reads the offense, gets through the mess, and has a nose for the ball
  • Good size, build, and length
  • Showcases his athleticism, fluid hips, and explosiveness off the snap
  • Classic sideline-to-sideline linebacker
  • Smooth in coverage and can cover TE’s and RB’s in the middle of the field or in the flat
  • While not a thumper, he is a reliable wrap-up tackler who doesn’t give up many broken tackles
  • Productive blitzer
  • High energy player with a motor that never quits
  • Has special teams upside

Weaknesses

  • One year wonder in college
  • Not the biggest or strongest LB, but makes up with his instincts
  • Could have some issues against bigger blockers in the NFL

What other analysts are saying about UCLA linebacker Carson Schwesinger

NFL Network’s lead draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah on UCLA LB Carson Schwesinger

Schwesinger is an ultra-instinctive linebacker with range and cover ability. Against the run, he is quick to key/diagnose. He is adept at beating blockers to spots, dipping underneath and avoiding them with quickness. He struggles to free himself when he’s forced to engage blocks. He has outstanding lateral range, and while he lacks thump, he’s a reliable tackler. He is smooth and fluid in coverage and has the agility to mirror/match tight ends and running backs. I love his play speed and energy. He chases plays all over the field. Overall, Schwesinger isn’t the most imposing figure, but he’s going to rack up production because of his blend of speed and instincts.

NFL.com’s draft analyst Lance Zierlein on UCLA LB Carson Schwesinger

Schwesinger went from walk-on to All-American at UCLA. He’s a human bloodhound, pairing elite instincts with an understanding of blocking schemes and run tracks. The pursuit speed is average but his play recognition helps him play fast. He’s undersized and takes the worst of it when blockers get on top of him, but he’s a good athlete in coverage. He’s also a sound technician as an open-field tackler and bona fide standout on special teams. Schwesinger was a starter for only one season, but his instincts, athleticism, and competitiveness help him project as a future starter either inside or as a 4-3 Will linebacker.

Final Thoughts

Despite signing Dre Greenlaw in free agency, the Broncos do have questions at linebacker. Greenlaw is coming off an Achilles injury he suffered in early 2024 in the Super Bowl vs. the Chiefs that caused him to miss the majority of the 2024 season. I feel like he’ll be good, but that question will remain throughout the offseason and into the regular season. Meanwhile, you have Alex Singleton coming off an ACL injury and turning 32 years old while in the final year of his deal. Both starting linebackers have injury questions and concerns. After that, you have Drew Sanders, who is probably on the roster bubble, and special-teams player Justin Strnad. So, drafting a linebacker early should not be off the table.

I entered this not knowing too much about Schwesinger but I came out a big fan. The instincts jump out to you. He reads the offense quickly, explodes off the snap, and quickly finds the ball carrier. He’s also smooth in coverage and a reliable tackler. Something the Broncos have been lacking in the middle of their defense for a while now.

Teams have been investing heavily in the linebacker position this offseason as offenses are trending more run-heavy. So, adding another high-end linebacker will be a priority for teams.

For the Broncos, it really depends on their faith in Greenlaw and Singleton’s rehab. If they feel good about both, I don’t see them drafting a linebacker early. However, if there is any concern, linebacker may be a priority for them during the draft.

I think he could go as early as the late first round, but he likely goes somewhere between the Broncos' first and second round picks. Teams are valuing linebackers this offseason, and a needy team could go with Schwesinger, who is one of the best in this draft class. If he is available for the Broncos in the second round and they want to add to their LB room, I wouldn’t hate this move for them.

Report: Broncos sign safety/special teamer Sam Franklin to a one-year deal

NFL: DEC 01 Buccaneers at Panthers

Photo by David Jensen/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

The Broncos continued to bolster their special teams by adding safety Sam Franklin on a one-year deal.

According to NFL insider Ari Meirov, the Denver Broncos have signed former Carolina Panthers safety/special-teams player Sam Franklin to a one-year deal. 9NEWS Denver's Mike Klis has confirmed this report.

The #Broncos are signing former #Panthers safety Sam Franklin to a 1-year deal, per source.

Franklin, a former undrafted free agent in 2020, spent the last five seasons in Carolina and totaled 105 tackles during his time there. pic.twitter.com/8EiWTS6bxU

— Ari Meirov (@MySportsUpdate) April 8, 2025

Franklin is a 6’3”, 210-pound safety/special-teams player who has played for the Panthers the past five seasons. He appeared in 74 career games, which includes 9 career starts, and totaled 105 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, 1 sack, 1 interception, 5 pass deflections, and 1 forced fumble.

He was a key member of the Panthers' special-teams unit during his time with the team, and now will join the Broncos and bolster their special-teams unit. The team saw special-teams ace Tremon Smith leave during free agency and sign with the Texans which left a hole on their special teams. They did sign receiver/special teamer Trent Sherfield to add to their special teams unit, but continue to bolster it here with Franklin.

With Sherfield and Franklin signed and linebacker Justin Strnad re-signed, newly hired special-teams coordinator Darren Rizzi appears to have his core special teamers with that trio. They still will likely draft or sign an undrafted free agent during the draft to add competition at punter, but overall, that unit appears to be taking shape.

With Franklin joining the team, this likely puts safeties JL Skinner, Delarrin Turner-Yell, and Devon Key on the roster bubble. We already saw the Broncos make a big splash in free agency by signing safety Talanoa Hufanga, which moved P.J. Locke back to a reserve/special-teams role. Now, with Franklin signed, there might be only one or at the most two spots available in that room. Add in the team potentially adding even more competition via the draft/UDFA’s and we could see some competition for those final roster spots in the secondary.

Horse Tracks: What positions will the Broncos find in this year’s draft?

2025 NFL Scouting Combine

Taking a look at what positions are deep in this year’s NFL draft.

We’ve all been digging into what the Denver Broncos need this offseason, but what does this draft have to offer?

The general consensus I’ve seen is that this draft has depth in the following positions (in no particular order):

  • Running back
  • Edge
  • Tight End
  • Cornerback
  • Offensive line
  • Interior defensive line

That’s not to say that you can’t find a wide receiver, linebacker, quarterback, or safety in this draft, but that there just isn’t a very large quantity of talent at those positions.

The good news for Broncos fans is that the team has needs at running back, tight end, cornerback, and offensive line. There should be players for the team to load up on for many of the team’s needs as both instant upgrades in talent and developmental assets for the future.

With a deeper number of picks than they’ve had in recent years, the ammunition is there for the team to get their guys and possibly wheel and deal to move up or down the board as needed.

NFL Mock Draft Database 2.0: All of the players being mocked to the Broncos

NCAA Football: Georgia Tech at North Carolina

Bob Donnan-Imagn Images

Here is an updated list of every player being mocked to the Denver Broncos so far. Let’s find out who the consensus guy for Denver is this week.

Well I know I promised every Wednesday, but that was a bit too aggressive as the needle doesn’t move much week to week or even bi-weekly. However, I like doing these posts so bi-weekly it will be. We’ll drop the NFL mock draft database version 3.0 the week of the 2025 NFL Draft. If you’d like to check back in on all the latest mock drafts, NFL Mock Draft Database is easily the best source for those and I used their site to curate this list below.

Let’s take a peek at who the mock draft gurus of the world are picking for the Denver Broncos now.

Analysis

A total of 55 mocks since April 1st and a consensus has definitely formed around North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton. Over half (27) of the mocks tracked had Hampton going to the Broncos with the 20th overall selection. He is the guy everyone thinks will be the pick for Denver in the first round.

The next name to show up frequently was Michigan tight end Colston Loveland who was mocked just eight times in April. From there it gets scattered, but Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden (4) and Penn State tight end Tyler Warren (3) both made the list enough times to note.

Position-wise, it was all running back all the time with 30 of the 55 total mocks going to that position group. The tight end position came in second with 11 picks and then wide receiver rounding out the volume picks with nine total selection from that position group.

Last time, I picked players in my poll to wrap this up, but I think this week we’ll go with position group. Regardless of the player that ends up going, which position group do you think that player will come from for the Broncos?

Report: Safety Nick Emmanwori named a wildcard option for the Broncos at pick 20

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: DEC 31 Cheez-It Citrus Bowl - South Carolina vs Illinois

Photo by David Rosenblum/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

The talented safety was named a “wildcard option to keep an eye on” at the Denver Broncos 20th overall pick.

Compared to last year, rumors surrounding the Broncos' first-round pick have been few and far between. However, we finally have a report/rumor on what direction the Broncos could be going in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

While the Broncos have been connected to running back and wide receivers in the first round of the draft, could they be eyeing one of the top defensive players in the draft instead?

With two weeks to go, here’s the latest buzz surrounding the NFL draft https://t.co/grwWvc6Xfx

— Matt Miller (@nfldraftscout) April 10, 2025

ESPN’s NFL insider Jordan Reid is reporting that they could wait until day 2 of the draft to address their running back need by grabbing running back TreVeyon Henderson or Kaleb Johnson. Instead, league sources have told them that the Broncos might use their first-round pick on a defensive player, and he names South Carolina safety Nick Emmanwori as a “wild card option to keep an eye on there”.

The Broncos have been linked to the running backs in Round 1, but the depth of this RB class makes it more likely that they’ll wait until Day 2 to grab a player like TreVeyon Henderson (Ohio State) or Kaleb Johnson (Iowa). Instead, league sources have told us that Denver might use its first-round pick to add to what is already one of the NFL’s best defenses. Safety Nick Emmanwori is a wild card to keep an eye on there.

Emmanwori is a talented prospect who has good size, elite athleticism, and is viewed as one of the top defensive players in the draft. However, the Broncos have already made a major addition to the safety position this offseason. They signed former 49ers safety Talanoa Hufanga to a big-money deal in free agency, and he is expected to start opposite Brandon Jones. Meanwhile, 2024 starter P.J. Locke is expected to shift to a reserve role and serve as the main backup to both starters. So, that doesn’t leave a lot of room for Emmanwori despite him being a highly ranked and talented prospect.

The only way it could make sense is if the Broncos plan on using him in a hybrid safety/linebacker role. He is listed at 6’3”, 220 pounds with 4.38 speed, so he has the size, build, and elite athleticism to fill that type of role. Come in as a sub-package linebacker opposite of Dre Greenlaw and cover running backs and tight ends, which was a weakness for them last season.

The Athletic’s lead draft analyst, Dane Brugler, has Emmanwori graded as his 17th overall player in the draft and has him ranked as his top safety in the draft. He says Emmanwori has the size, speed, and mindset to play a variety of roles and projects best near the line of scrimmage.

Emmanwori does a nice job reading route concepts in underneath coverages, and he will make plays on the ball with his reaction quickness. Some of his reads and angles are inconsistent from depth, but he keys quickly from the box and plays with physicality (Derwin James is his idol). Overall, Emmanwori has the size, speed and mindset to play a variety of roles, although he projects best near the line of scrimmage, where he can blitz, be an eraser against the run and man up with tight ends and backs in coverage. He has the floor of an adequate starter and special-teamer, but his ceiling is exciting and will put him high on NFL teams’ safety stack.

It is possible the Broncos view Emmanwori as a chess piece for them on the defensive side of the ball. He could provide some insurance if Hufanga’s injury woes continue, play some linebacker, an explosive blitzer, or even a big slot who mans up against talented tight ends.

This is all speculation, of course, but it could make sense as this was an area of weakness for them last season. The Broncos' defense is talented on paper, but the AFC is loaded with explosive offenses, so making that strength even stronger is probably a good idea.

What do you think, Broncos Country? Would you be down adding Emmanwori at 20th overall, or would you like to see the Broncos go in another direction with their first-round pick?

Georgia Tech TE Jackson Hawes is the best run-blocking tight end in the draft and makes sense for the Broncos

Georgia Tech v Vanderbilt - Birmingham Bowl

Hawes is not a ‘Joker’ by any means but he is a nasty run blocker who fits the mold of a Sean Payton tight end.

One prospect who may interest the Denver Broncos on day three of the 2025 NFL Draft is Georgia Tech tight end Jackson Hawes. He’s a 6’4 1⁄2 “, 253-pound tight end who is viewed as the best run-blocking tight end in the draft.

Hawes started his college career at Yale and played at the Ivy League school through 2023 before transferring to Georgia Tech in 2024. This past season, he played in 12 games and had 16 receptions for 195 yards and 0 touchdowns. Not the greatest numbers, but you’re not drafting him for his receiving skills.

Jackson Hawes is up there with the best Blocking Tight Ends I've seen come out in 2-3 Years, Wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see a team use a late 3rd on him to secure their TE2 spot.

Not a good athlete, but good burst (1.56 10 Split = T-3rd) shows up in his blocking &… pic.twitter.com/IuOQLdVEAe

What other analysts are saying about Georgia Tech tight end Jackson Hawes

The Athletic’s lead draft analyst, Dane Brugler, on TE Jackson Hawes

A one-year starter at Georgia Tech, Hawes was an inline tight end in offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner’s run-heavy scheme (65.0 percent of snaps inline, 28.3 percent in the slot). He spent five years at Yale and picked up an Ivy League degree before spending his final college season with the Yellow Jackets in 2024. His performance at Georgia Tech earned him draftable grades from NFL teams. As a pass catcher, Hawes tracks and catches the ball well, but he wasn’t a high-volume target in college — that is reflected in his inefficient route running and choppy attempts to separate at the stem. Where he shines is as a versatile, throwback blocker who can dig out defenders and stay between his target and the football. Overall, Hawes is a one-speed athlete and has a low ceiling as a passing target, but his functional athleticism, technical approach and competitive attitude should be enough to keep him on an NFL roster. He is a classic Y tight end prospect.

NFL.com’s draft analyst Lance Zierlein on TE Jackson Hawes

Hawes is a thump-and-drive tight end with the technique and fire to help make a difference in the run game as both a lead/move blocker and at the point of attack. Hawes proved he could move from the Ivy League to the ACC and fit right in despite the step up in competition. There are correctable areas as a run blocker but his demeanor and size make it easier to project his move to the NFL in that area. He’s limited as a route runner and pass catcher, so a roster spot will need to be secured with a steady diet of physicality. Hawes has Day 3 value with a chance to earn NFL snaps.

Final Thoughts

After covering all the notable early-round players, I started looking for some late-round Sean Payton-type players. He’s an old school coach who seems to favor football players who are willing to do the dirty work that goes unnoticed by fans. Hawes checks a lot of those boxes while also being an elite blocking tight end prospect.

The Broncos added their ‘Joker’ with Evan Engram and have veteran Adam Trautman and FB/TE Nate Adkins on the roster. Adding another in-line player who could help the run game, Payton and the Broncos are looking to improve would make sense.

Add in the importance of special teams and having an All-Pro return man in Marvin Mims, and Hawes could make an impact in the return game.

He is likely a late-day three guy who could go a little earlier than expected to a team that values run-blocking tight ends like Hawes. The Ravens, Steelers, and Chargers come to mind, and I believe we could add the Broncos to this list.

Future Broncos: SMU running back Brashard Smith

2024 ACC Football Championship - Clemson v SMU

If the Denver Broncos are interested in adding a running back with premier receiving skills, SMU standout Brashard Smith is a player to watch for.

The 2025 NFL Draft is less than two weeks away. We have covered a lot of running backs to date in our annual prospect scouting reports. However, one intriguing player that deserves a deeper dive that hasn’t been discussed yet is SMU standout Brashard Smith.

After spending his first three seasons with the Miami Hurricanes primarily playing wide receiver and being a return specialist, Smith transferred to the Mustangs for his senior season. A change in scenery also meant a change in position, and the fourth-year player had a breakout year after switching to running back.

During his only year as a starter, Smith carried the ball 235 times for 1,332 yards and 14 touchdowns. He added 39 catches for 327 yards and 4 touchdowns as a receiver. When you sprinkle in his return numbers, Smith had nearly 2,000 all-purpose yards in 2024. His performance on the field and successful pre-draft circuit have caused him to rise from a late-round pick to someone who may hear his named called in the first 100 selections.

The Broncos had a formal interview with him at the NFL Combine. I think Head Coach Sean Payton will undoubtedly be intrigued by his receiving skills and big-play ability that may earn him some ‘joker’ consideration. Let’s take a deeper look at Smith, his strengths and weaknesses, and when Denver should consider picking him in this year’s draft.

Player Profile: Brashard Smith — Running Back — SMU

Height: 5’ 10” | Weight: 194 pounds | Arm Length: 30-1/2” | Hand Size: 8-3/4”

40-yard dash: 4.39 seconds | 10-yard split: 1.58 seconds | Vertical: 32-1/2” | Broad: 9’-9”

Statistics at SMU and Miami: 49 games, 253 carries, 1,509 rushing yards, 15 rushing touchdowns, 108 receptions, 1,097 receiving yards, 4 receiving touchdowns. Also returned 53 kicks for 1,295 yards and 1 touchdown.

Film Room & Highlights

Hart’s Scouting Report

Positives:

  • Boasts top-tier speed with a 4.39 40-yard dash and ability to take it the distance
  • Elusive and shifty in open space and has a habit of making defenders miss with his well-known spin move and change of direction skills
  • Possesses above-average contact balance
  • Former wide receiver with exceptional receiving ability who can be mismatch weapon in space and lined up in various spots for Sean Payton’s offense
  • Low tread on his tires due to being a one-year starter at the position
  • Offers significant upside on special teams due to his kick returning ability

Negatives:

  • On the smaller size and likely just a change of pace player at the next level
  • Still learning the position and doesn’t have the best vision and decisiveness
  • Isn’t going to be much of a threat to move the chains in tough yard situations and struggled when teams placed an extra defender in the box
  • Ball security and fumbles are a concern

Hart’s Projection: Early Day 3 Selection (Fourth Round Value)

Why the Denver Broncos should consider drafting Smith

If the Broncos are in pursuit of a prospect who can offer value as a runner, receiver, and special teams' player—Smith is certainly one of the more intriguing options in this year’s draft.

He doesn’t have the size to be a three-down back that can shoulder a major workload in the National Football League, but his unique skillset and explosive athleticism will give him the opportunity to be a versatile player teams can deploy in multiple fashions. His performance this past season was admirable and impressive for a one-year starter. Alas, his vision and decision-making ability pales in comparison to other tried-and-true experienced starters available in the draft.

Smith’s future in the pros is best as a complimentary player who offers mismatch ability in space due to his prowess as a receiver. Teams will undoubtedly move him up a tick on their boards because he is a quality return man as well. If the Broncos opt to utilize an early pick on one of the higher rated prospects in this draft, Smith would be a good prospect to consider, though it would be a disappointment if he was the only player added to the room in a loaded class.

Overall, Smith is certainly a talented player Payton could craft a role for in the offense. Though the aforementioned concerns make me wonder how much of an impact he can make in the league in his first season. It may take a few years to hit his stride, but teams who are willing to be patient with his development may be rewarded handsomely due to his skills a few years down the road. If he is available on Day 3, he is certainly someone I’d like them to consider.

Washington State WR Kyle Williams would give the Broncos another big play threat in the passing game

Williams is a fast-rising receiver prospect who may interest the Broncos on day 2 of the draft.

One prospect who may interest the Denver Broncos on day two of the 2025 NFL Draft is Washington State wide receiver Kyle Williams. He is a 5’11”, 190-pound wide receiver prospect who is a fast-rising prospect on draft boards. The Athletic’s draft analyst Dane Brugler has Williams graded as his 93rd overall player in the 2025 NFL Draft and has him ranked as his 12th best receiver in the draft.

The UNLV transfer played two seasons at Washington State and was a very productive player for them during that span. During his two seasons, he appeared in 25 games and totaled 131 receptions for 2,041 yards and 20 touchdowns. This past year, he played in 13 games and totaled 70 receptions for 1,198 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Scouting Report

Strengths

  • Athletic, explosive, quick, and a big-play waiting to happen
  • Excels after the catch and runs around and by defenders
  • Dangerous in space and was a weapon in the screen game
  • Run after the catch/YAC specialist
  • Has a quick release and wins down the field as a deep target
  • Able to avoid contact and beat press man coverage
  • Tracks the deep ball very well
  • Has good body control to adjust to make tough catches
  • Plays inside and outside

Weaknesses

  • Limited catch radius and has small hands
  • Needs to develop his route tree
  • Struggles with drops at times
  • Doesn’t add much as a run blocker

Kyle Williams RAS

Kyle Williams is a WR prospect in the 2025 draft class. He scored a 6.23 #RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 1299 out of 3445 WR from 1987 to 2025.

What other analysts are saying about Washington State wide receiver Kyle Williams

NFL.com’s draft analyst Lance Zierlein on WR Kyle Williams

Fifth-year senior with alignment versatility and home run potential. Williams will never be tabbed as “sure-handed” but he can separate deep and create big plays, which could make the catch issues easier to swallow. He eliminates pursuit angles as a catch-and-run artist and gets respectful cushions, allowing for easy comeback throws. His lack of route-running fundamentals limit his tree, but that should be correctable with work. Williams’ subpar hands lower his floor, but teams looking to add a playmaker could have him queued up as a future WR3.

Final Thoughts

Kyle Williams is one of my favorite wide receiver prospects in the draft, but I am unsure if he makes sense for the Broncos.

His ability to win in the screen game, in space, and as a deep threat makes him a natural fit in Sean Payton’s offense. He featured the screen game and quick passing game often last season, and that is where Williams thrives. He is an explosive receiver who plays fast on tape and can make defenders miss and hit the big play whenever he has the ball in his hands.

That makes him a pretty good fit, right?

Here’s my issue. His skill set overlaps with Marvin Mims and Troy Franklin. Mims is your screen game/deep threat who figures to see an expanded role this upcoming season. Franklin flashed his ability to get open down field, but had his ups and downs as a rookie. He is also expected to have an expanded role this upcoming season. So, if drafted, the role Williams plays would already be taken and at most, he would be competition for Franklin.

I still lean towards Payton adding a bigger and stronger wide receiver who can win in the middle of the field and contribute as a run blocker over another player like Williams. I would not be upset if I was wrong, but that is how I am leaning currently.

Williams is a fast-rising prospect and probably goes in the second round or at the latest, the early third round. If he is on the board for either of the Broncos' second or third round picks, I would not be upset if they selected him.

NFL Draft Profile: Syracuse TE Oronde Gadsden II

NC State v Syracuse

Gadsden is a receiver to tight end convert who could be an intriguing day 3 option for the Broncos.

One prospect who may interest the Denver Broncos on day 3 of the 2025 NFL Draft is Syracuse tight end Oronde Gadsden II. He is a 6’5”, 243-pound tight end who is one of the more intriguing late-round receiving threats at the position. The Athletic’s lead draft analyst, Dane Brugler, has Gadsden II ranked as his 8th-best tight end in the draft and grades him as a 4th-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Gadsden II played a total of four seasons at Syracuse and was an impactful player for them during that span. During his four seasons, Gadsden II appeared in 36 games, which included 28 starts and totaled 143 receptions for 1,994 yards and 14 touchdowns. This past year, he played and started in 13 games and totaled 73 receptions for 934 yards and 7 touchdowns.

At #Syracuse Pro Day last week, Oronde Gadsden showcased the athleticism, burst and explosiveness testing-wise and on-field in front of NFL personnel.

Film Room

Scouting Report

Strengths

  • Big/Tall target with a large catch radius
  • Long arms/wingspan
  • Athletic and is a former wide receiver converting to tight end
  • Attacks the ball in the air and showcases his receiver background
  • Strong and reliable hands
  • High-level body control and can adjust to make tough catches
  • Uses his size and length to block out defenders and make contested catches
  • Runs routes like a big wide receiver
  • Has some YAC potential due to his athleticism
  • Profiles as a big slot and has some ‘Joker’ traits
  • Matchup problem for linebackers and safeties
  • Bloodlines: His father is Oronde Gadsden, who played receiver for the Miami Dolphins from 1998 through 2003

Weaknesses

  • Added weight but has a lean frame and looks more like a receiver than a tight end
  • While a willing blocker in space, he rarely played in-line and doesn’t have the body type of strength to do so in the NFL right now
  • Will not be a scheme fit for all teams
  • Plays more like a receiver than a tight end

What other analysts are saying about Syracuse tight end Oronde Gadsden II

The Athletic’s lead draft analyst, Dane Brugler, on TE Oronde Gadsden II

A two-year starter at Syracuse, Gadsden was a joker tight end in offensive coordinator Jeff Nixon’s pro-spread system (58.3 percent of his snaps aligned in the slot, 32.6 percent inline, 8.7 percent wide in 2024). A wide receiver when he enrolled, Gadsden transitioned to a hybrid tight end role as a sophomore and had the two most productive seasons (2022, 2024) for a tight end in school history (with a season-ending injury in between, in 2023). Like his father, who played in the NFL for several seasons,

Gadsden is the type of target who doesn’t require his quarterback to be perfect because of the way he uses his frame, focus, and long arms to pull in throws. Though he has functional athleticism as a route runner, his setup and pacing are still in the developmental phase. I was expecting more after the catch, too (just 27.5 percent of his yards in 2024 came with the ball in his hands, one of the lowest rates in the FBS). As a blocker, he gives quality effort and can get in the way, but he won’t consistently move defenders at the point of attack in the run game. Overall, Gadsden is an athletic pass catcher with the adjustment skills and catch radius to be a possession target in an NFL offense, although his average frame and marginal ability to sustain blocks create questions about his role. He projects best as an F tight end who can be flexed across the formation and should continue to get better.

Final Thoughts

If Evan Engram makes sense for the Broncos, then Syracuse tight end Oronde Gadsden II makes sense for the Broncos. Like Engram, he is a big-slot move tight end who will be used as a receiving threat/’Joker’ rather than a traditional in-line tight end.

The Broncos signed Engram to a two-year deal during free agency, but he is a 30-year-old tight end coming off a shoulder injury. Having a young developmental option behind him would make sense. It would also give the Broncos another big and athletic target in the passing game to use in certain situations.

He will likely go on early day 3 and could be an intriguing under-the-radar addition to the Broncos' tight end room. If the Broncos decide to go that route, he’s one of my favorite day 3 tight end options for them and would be thrilled if they drafted him.
