Broncos vs. Chiefs: Wednesday practice participation report

gettyimages-2250861641.jpg

Well, looks like the Denver Broncos are playing it safe across the board on a short week with five players out, including center Luke Wattenberg. We kind of assumed Pat Bryant and Dre Greenlaw would be out due to the short turnaround, but with little to now news around Wattenberg it was hard to ascertain the severity of the shoulder injury. That will be something to monitor closely next week.

The good news is Justin Strnad appears to be ready to go and is available in a timely way with Greenlaw now officially ruled out. Having Ben Powers back fully is also a big addition. This is definitely a must-win game for Denver

Here is your full practice report for Wednesday.

Christmas Day Football Week 17: Lions at Vikings – Live Discussion

gettyimages-2253056509.jpg

The Detroit Lions looked prime for be a Super Bowl contender early in the season, but the wheel came completely off this team after their Week 8 bye. From 5-2 before that week off to 3-5 after, they are on the cusp of playoff elimination in the NFC. The Minnesota Vikings, on the other hand, have won three strait and will be looking to play spoiler.

Kickoff is set for Thursday, December 25, 2025 at 2:30 p.m. Mile High time at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota and will air on NETFLIX.

My Prediction

According to FanDuel, the Lions are 7.5-point road favorites over the Vikings. Like I said earlier today for the first game, I hate big spreads for road teams against a division rival. Those divisional games usually end up being dogfights most times, so I’d err on the side of caution with this one. The only difference here from the earlier game is that the Lions are still in the playoff hunt and on the bubble. They should be playing with desperation and focus.

Prediction: Lions 31, Vikings 26.

Payton: ‘It doesn’t have to be aesthetically pleasing to be effective’

imagn-27885690.jpg

The Denver Broncos are now 11-2 in one-score games in 2025. They just keep finding ways to win those close games and often do it in ugly ways against the bad football teams. And yes, the 2025 Kansas City Chiefs are a bad football team. So are the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Jets, both teams Denver beat this season by a combined 5 points in two of the games.

I was looking back at my childhood Broncos and came across a season that came directly after their 55-10 butt-whooping in the Super Bowl to the San Francisco 49ers. They went 5-11 a year after being AFC champions. How might you ask? They did what the 2025 Chiefs did: lose close games. That 1990 team went 2-7 in close games.

The NFL is a knife’s edge sometimes between a losing record and a winning record. And Head Coach Sean Payton summed it up quite succinctly after the game tonight, “It doesn’t have to be aesthetically pleasing to be effective. I’ve said that before.”

It’s not always pretty, but when the 2025 Broncos need to make a play they find a play to make. In this game, it was Bo Nix converting 11/18 on third downs and 1/1 on fourth downs. The biggest play of the game ended up being the final touchdown throw where Nix redirected RJ Harvey on his route to get him open enough to fire in the touchdown pass.

RJ HARVEY'S 12th TOUCHDOWN GIVES THE BRONCOS A LATE 4TH QUARTER LEADpic.twitter.com/ASL4sP4HwH

— MileHighReport (@MileHighReport) December 26, 2025

After that pass, Albert Breer posted on X noticed the same thing about Bo Nix. He does what needs to be done.

Man … Bo Nix.

Say what you want, he makes critical throw after critical throw. Tonight the Chiefs challenged him to put together long drives, keep moving the chains on third down, and he keeps doing it.

— Albert Breer (@AlbertBreer) December 26, 2025

The Broncos ended up possessing the ball for nearly 40 minutes and outgained the Chiefs by a 2-to-1 margin. Nix led the Broncos on four drives of 14-plays or more. That’s not something you see a lot of in a game, maybe one drive is that long. This is the second time this season where the Broncos have had 3+ drives that took 14 or more plays to complete.

So the national media can say what they want, but Nix grinds through adversity and keeps competing. That’s all you could hope for from a franchise quarterback.

One more game. They just need one more win to lock up the top seed and earn themselves a much-needed bye week to get healthy. The Los Angeles Chargers are a tough one to figure out. Bo Nix is 0-3 against the Chargers. He’ll need to make that 1-3 now. I Bolieve!

Game balls for the Broncos 20-13 win over the Chiefs in Week 17

imagn-27885755.jpg

The Denver Broncos moved to 13-3 on the season with a tough win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Christmas night. As Head Coach Sean Payton said after the game, ‘It doesn’t have to be aesthetically pleasing to be effective’ and that is exactly right. Denver is now one win away from locking it all up and getting a much-needed week of rest heading into the playoffs.

Denver’s offense really didn’t struggle as much as people are saying. They controlled the ball for nearly 40 minutes and racked up 11/18 on third downs, while out-gaining the Chiefs 303-139 in total yardage. The game was close due to three significant plays that went Kansas City’s way: a tipped-drill interception, a very suspect defensive pass interference call on Pat Surtain, and a long return on special teams. Otherwise, the Broncos would have handily beaten their rival last night. It doesn’t matter anyway, a win is a win in the NFL and that’s what the Broncos came away with.

Here are Mile High Report’s game balls for the Broncos’ 20-13 victory against the Chiefs on Christmas night!

Bo Nix

I’m starting to understand that Bo Nix is a pretty damn good cook. He will look at a game and pick up the correct recipe to compete and to win. The Chiefs plays this game with the goal of forcing the Broncos to string together long drives to put up points. The goal there was clearly to keep the score low knowing that would give them the best chance to win. So Nix, while he struggled at times, dropped four scoring drives of 14-plays or more. Those drives ate up the clock and eventually put up the points necessary to come out with the win. He’ll get hate from the media for the apparent lackluster effort, but what I saw was a team that is just cooking up different ways to win games depending on what their opponent is throwing at them. – Tim Lynch

TOUCHDOWN BO NIX pic.twitter.com/IdCV79dook

— MileHighReport (@MileHighReport) December 26, 2025

RJ Harvey

RJ Harvey gets my game ball this week. It was a sloppy game, but Harvey balled out. He had over 40 yards on 13 carries rushing, over 30 yards on 5 catches, and one touchdown catch. There’s room to grow for sure for this rookie, but he’s starting to shed tacklers, find open cut back lanes, and is a dangerous weapon in either facet of the offense. – Sadaraine

Second-round pick R.J. Harvey has a lot of room for growth, but tonight he had 19 touches for 77 yards and 1 touchdown. Harvey’s touchdown grab late in the fourth quarter cemented the Broncos’ big victory over the Chiefs. That was his 12th touchdown of his rookie campaign which leads all rookie skill position players. He now has over 850 all-purpose yards on the season. In big moments, Harvey has thrived and been a difference maker. He may not be Head Coach Sean Payton’s ‘Joker’ yet, but it’s clear Payton is utilizing him a lot like he did Alvin Kamara during his tenure with the New Orleans Saints. His future looks bright. – Chris Hart

Wil Lutz

On a night the offense struggled early in the red zone, Lutz came through. And with points at a premium that makes his field goals even more important. That allowed the Broncos to stay in the game. And when the offense finally got into the endzone, he made both extra points. With how inconsistent kickers are these days, having one in Lutz is huge. On top of that, his kickoffs didn’t result in any big returns, especially the final kick of the game. – Ian St. Clair

Jaleel McLaughlin

I’ve had this feeling for the last couple of weeks, but Jaleel McLaughlin is the best between-the-tackles running back on this roster, given the Dobbins injury. His vision is good, he finds the proper cut back lanes, and he is a lot better than Harvey at falling forward. I think the Broncos should look to him a few more times a game for their Inside Zone plays in particular. He helped keep the run game from completely sinking tonight.

It’s almost like he’s one of the best rushers in college history or something. – Ross Allen

Fun fact, often forgotten: Jaleel McLaughlin is college football's all-time leading rusher.

All divisions, all levels.

Nobody has rushed for more yards than McLaughlin.

— Andrew Siciliano (@AndrewSiciliano) December 26, 2025

Chris Jones

We have seen this before, and so I have to give out a gameball to Chris Jones. Don’t stop me if you heard this. In a pivotal moment in a “big” game, a Chiefs player is called for a penalty. Kadarious Toney was famously flagged on offense against the Bills in 2023, which helped Buffalo win that game. Jones had a roughing the passer against Tom Brady and the Patriots in an AFC Championship. Now he has an offsides in 4th and 2, which allowed Bo Nix to use a little more clock and throw a TD pass to RJ Harvey. A little snarky, but here’s your game ball Mr. Jones. – Adam Malnati

Alex Forsyth

Alex Forsyth played a heck of a game coming in for the injured Luke Wattenberg and playing against a guy like Chris Jones. – Joe Mahoney

Future Broncos: Discussing several 2026 NFL Draft early declarations

gettyimages-2245235981.jpg

With the College Football Playoffs and this year’s slate of bowl games underway, a lot of news is coming out relative to early declarations for the 2026 NFL Draft. Over the past few years, we have seen a little bit of a drop in underclassmen declaring and opting to remain in college due to NIL money and other factors. Though that isn’t stopping some of the best collegiate playmakers from going to the next level. For this installment, I’ll be focusing on some offensive prospects to keep your eye on for the Denver Broncos.

It’s a good year to be in the market for a wide receiver.

The Broncos have invested a lot at the wide receiver position over the past several drafts. Marvin Mims Jr., Troy Franklin, and Pat Bryant were all Top 125 picks. Each offers a unique and different skill set and still have plenty of room for growth and development, but it’s a position I wouldn’t be surprised to see Denver consider. They don’t have many huge needs and presumably picking late due to their current record—they certainly could adhere to the best player available philosophy.

Could one of those players be a wide receiver? Certainly. We have already seen a flurry of top receivers from this year’s collegiate season make their intentions known—it’s time for them to take their talents to the National Football League.

Washington’s Denzel Boston, USC’s Makai Lemon and Ja’Kobi Lane, Tennessee’s Chris Brazell, Texas A&M’s KC Concepcion and Clemson’s Antonio Williams are all gearing up to hear their names called in April. Lemon is certainly a player who could hear his name called in the Top 15 or Top 20 selections. I think he will be outside the Broncos’ reach unless they opted to move up the board. Lane, Williams and Concepcion will likely hear their names called on Day 2. I discussed Brazell earlier in the season but haven’t given my thoughts on Boston.

So, what do I think? I really like Boston’s fit in Head Coach Sean Payton’s offense. At 6’4” and 210 pounds, he has the size and physicality to play the big slot role in Payton’s offense. He also functions well as an outside receiver as well. His mental toughness, sound hands, and football character will all check the boxes of things the Broncos are looking for.

As mentioned earlier, I really like the young prospects the Broncos have in house. However, that shouldn’t preclude them from taking a shot if a top-flight receiver is on board when they are picking in the first-round next spring. All things considered, Boston is a player who would command #1 volume in Denver’s offense and has the potential to be a long-term fixture in the offense for quarterback Bo Nix to throw to.

— PFF College (@PFF_College) December 24, 2025

If you’re hoping the Broncos find a running mate to pair with RJ Harvey—be excited.

The Denver Broncos seem to have found a top-notch playmaker in rookie running back RJ Harvey. The team’s second-round pick from the 2025 NFL Draft has twelve touchdowns on the season and is just shy of 900 all-purpose yards. There is no doubt Harvey’s versatility has been an asset for the Broncos’ offense this year.

However, long-term, the team definitely needs a bigger back to compliment his skillset who can churn out tough yards in between the tackles. Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price, the standout running back duo for Notre Dame, have declared. Both of these guys are phenomenal playmakers. I expect Love to be off the board when Denver picks, but Price would be a quality addition to Denver’s backfield and is expected to be a Day 2 selection.

Another running back I like, but he hasn’t officially declared, is BYU’s LJ Martin. He opted out of playing in the Pop-Tart’s Bowl. That could be a hint he has his sights set on going to the big leagues. If you want a back with big size in Denver’s running back group, Martin has that at 6’2” and 220 pounds.

The star junior running back led the Big 12 conference in carries (236) and yards (1,305) and totaled 12 rushing touchdowns and averaged over 100 yards per game. He also flashed receiving chops reeling in 36 passes for 255 yards. His 32 carry, 222 yard and two touchdown effort versus Cincinnati prior to Thanksgiving certainly improved his draft scouts and caused scouts to give the talented runner an extended look.

One under-the-radar prospect to keep your eye on is Nebraska standout Emmett Johnson. He officially declared several weeks ago. Johson had a terrific redshirt junior season notching 1,451 yards and 251 carries with 12 touchdowns. He also was a big part of their receiving game, reeling in 46 passes for 370 yards and 3 touchdowns. He has great vision, breaks a lot of tackles, and does well on interior runs. I think he would be a nice compliment to Harvey as a potential Day 3 selection.

Emmett Johnson isn’t much of a home run threat, but he has the vision and short-area quickness to hit doubles & singles at a very high rate. So creative weaving through traffic and finding escape routes from his peripheral.

Denver Broncos are your 2025 AFC West Champions

gettyimages-2252862510.jpg

The Denver Broncos are your 2025 AFC West Champions for the first time since 2015.

On Christmas Night, the Denver Broncos defeated the Kansas City Chiefs and improved to 13-3 on the year and set themselves up with a chance to clinch the AFC West on Saturday with a Chargers loss. Well, the Texans took care of business today and defeated the Chargers, which has clinched the AFC West for the Denver Broncos.

— MileHighReport (@MileHighReport) December 28, 2025

This is the Broncos’ 16th AFC West Championship, their first since 2015, and the first for Head Coach Sean Payton and quarterback Bo Nix.

The Broncos have been on a magical run this season, and after starting the season 1-2, they ripped off 11 straight wins and are now AFC West champions and the favorites for the number one seed in the AFC. They have been led by their elite defense and second-year quarterback Bo Nix, who has improved as the season went on and has led multiple 4th quarter comebacks and game-winning drives.

With a postseason berth and now the AFC West locked up, the Broncos will set their sights on the number one seed in the AFC. They can clinch the one seed as early as tomorrow, but they will need a lot of help for that to happen. They will need the Patriots to lose to the Jets, the Bills to lose to the Eagles, and the Jaguars to lose to Grandpa Phillip Rivers and the Colts. All three of those scenarios playing out tomorrow are highly unlikely, so the Broncos will likely need to win next weekend, at Mile High, vs. the Chargers.

The Broncos are back where they belong. Three years ago, the team fired Nathaniel Hackett the day after Christmas and just signed quarterback Russell Wilson to a contract that would age poorly. Now, three years later. Sean Payton has led the Broncos back to being Super Bowl contenders, and Bo Nix is your franchise quarterback.

Kings of the AFC West, the Broncos set their sights on #1 seed playoffs

gettyimages-2253538751.jpg

Broncos Country, the drought is officially over. With the Houston Texans defeating the Los Angeles Chargers yesterday, the Denver Broncos secured their first AFC West title in a decade. That season finished off on a high note when they went on to become Super Bowl 50 champions.

Their ascension to kings of the AFC West again is a fantastic accomplishment. Just several years removed from the dreadful Nathaniel Hackett experience, the Broncos have climbed their way back to the top despite having significant salary cap restraints due to the failed Russell Wilson experiment. I’m not so many of us were confident that would happen given how awful most of the past ten years have been.

Head Coach Sean Payton, his staff, and General Manager George Paton deserve a lot of praise for righting the ship so quickly. Additionally, one can’t help but tip the cap to ownership who have been first-class over the past several seasons. The team has drafted and developed players well and bucked the trend of the prior regime who struggled in that regard and failed to reward home-grown talent.

And guess what? The Broncos have ample salary cap space the next several seasons and a healthy amount of draft picks. I don’t expect this season to be a flash in the pan moment but take it as a sign of things to come. This team will be competitive for years to come.

AFC WEST CHAMPS.

Goal No. 1 ✅

And we’re still climbing. pic.twitter.com/yHbSmyw8Ww

— Denver Broncos (@Broncos) December 28, 2025

Even so, the Broncos still have work to do to finish their 2025 campaign on a high note. Week 18 will be the most important matchup for the franchise in ages. A victory assures them the #1 seed in the AFC—giving them a first-round bye and coveted homefield advantage throughout the playoffs—regardless of what the New England Patriots or Jacksonville Jaguars do in their final two games.

It’s time for the Broncos to seize the moment, take care of business, and put themselves in the best position possible for a deep playoff run.

For those hoping or expecting Jim Harbaugh to rest his players next Sunday—don’t count on it. Harbaugh doesn’t strike me as the type of coach who wants to let a division rival potentially cakewalk into the top seed and all that comes with it. He’s a competitor and so are his players. While they missed out on a chance at winning the division, have no doubt they will be looking to play spoilers in Denver on January 4th.

The Broncos may be top dog in the division in ’25. Though it’s important to remember the Chargers have won their last three contests against the Broncos. All of them hard-fought, one score games. But next Sunday, Denver will have their hometown crowd behind them at Empower Field at Mile High.

A lot is at stake next Sunday. I’m confident Denver will rise to the occasion, control their own destiny, and find a way to gut out another impressive victory. They’ve done a lot of that this season, so why not win the most important game of the regular season?

Yes, this is real: The Broncos win the AFC West

gettyimages-2253548549.jpg

Good morning, Broncos Country!

For the first time in a decade, the Denver Broncos are AFC West champs.

Somehow, it feels like 84 years since the franchise has been in this position. It was a rough and tough 10 years since Super Bowl 50 …. to say the least. But the Broncos are finally out of the manure-laden doldrums and back atop the division. If that’s not enough, Denver is also in the driver’s seat for the No. 1 seed in the AFC Playoffs, which comes with home-field advantage and a bye.

Three years ago, the Broncos fired Nathaniel Hackett on the day after Christmas.

Now, 2 days after Christmas, the Broncos are 13-3, the one seed in the AFC, and just clinched the AFC West pic.twitter.com/QPdi8vtTzI

— MileHighReport (@MileHighReport) December 28, 2025

It almost doesn’t feel real, that’s how long it’s been.

Think of how much has changed.

Pat Bowlen was still alive. John Elway was the executive vice president of football operations and general manager. Peyton Manning was the quarterback.

The Kansas City Chiefs had yet to win the Lamar Hunt Trophy.

It was a certain center’s rookie season for the Denver Nuggets.

You get the idea.

It’s been a minute, but the Broncos are back.

It starts and stops with Sean Payton. Since his arrival in Denver, he has completely transformed the organization’s culture and eradicated the rot brought on by Joe Ellis. Then you add in the Walton Penner ownership group, led by Greg Penner and Carrie Walton Penner. Throw in general manager George Paton, who has had some incredible NFL Drafts and made some great moves in free agency to make up for the Russell Wilson and Nathaniel Hackett debacle. And last but not least, Bo Nix.

The Broncos finally have the head coach, ownership, GM, and quarterback all aligned. It’s no wonder Denver is now the AFC West champs.

But let’s not forget the two veterans who had to play through most of the last shit decade and finally have come out of it all roses, Garett Bolles and Courtland Sutton. Mile High Salute to those two for the professional approach and the class they bring to the team and community. It’s great to see this happen for those two players.

For the first time in a decade, the Broncos are AFC West champs. It’s about damn time.

And this is only the beginning.

Broncos vs. Chargers betting odds for Week 18

imagn-27141881.jpg

The Denver Broncos took care of business as heavy favorites last week, while the Los Angeles Chargers did not giving the Broncos their first AFC West championship since the 2015 season. With the Chargers locked in with a Wild Card spot, they don’t really have a ton to play for next week. Could that decision help Denver secure the AFC’s top seed heading into the playoffs?

According to FanDuel, the Broncos are 6.5-point home favorites over the Chargers in Week 18. The over/under stands at 40.5 for this matchup.

Broncos vs. Chargers betting odds

Denver Broncos vs. Los Angeles Chargers
Sunday, January 4, 2026 at 2:25 P.M. Mile High time
Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, Colorado
ATS Betting Lines: Denver -6.5
Moneyline Odds: Denver -320 / Los Angeles +260
Over/Under: 40.5

The line suggests that oddsmakers expect Denver to compete with all of their starters to get that top seed, while the Chargers are expected to rest their key starters. After their game on Saturday, Head Coach Jim Harbaugh declined to answer a question about whether or not they planned to rest any starters. That decision apparently hasn’t been made yet.

There isn’t much for them to risk in playing. The five seed is in play, but they’d need some variation of other teams losing. The six and seven seeds are the most likely reason to play. Why risk major injury when you are not really moving the need? That said, the Broncos still need to go out and perform. They can play a bit up or down to their competition at times. Would love to see them just go out and take over the game early in this one.

Sean Payton: ‘We still have a lot of things we have to improve upon’

gettyimages-2253755441.jpg

It took a decade for the Denver Broncos to get back to the top of the AFC West. After hoisting the franchise’s third Lombardi Trophy by winning Super Bowl 50, there hasn’t been much to write home about for the Broncos who have floundered in obscurity most every season since 2015.

However, all that has changed. The past is the past, and the future looks quite bright for the Broncos. They are once again rightful kings of the AFC West after defeating the Kansas City Chiefs on Christmas coupled with the Los Angeles Chargers falling to the Houston Texans this past Saturday.

Through seventeen weeks, the Broncos have reeled off an impressive thirteen victories. Decisive wins have been few and far between, but the team’s penchant for delivering monumental comebacks and grinding out and winning hard-fought battles is one of the reasons why they’ve been so successful. That’s a most-welcomed change considering it’s an area the had struggled with for ages.

But this year’s Broncos are just built different. They’re a mentally tough team who rarely folds in the face of adversity. They’ve got a swagger and moxie about them that seemingly always has them in position to find a way to win when it matters most.

Prior to the season, Head Coach Sean Payton and the team talked about their goals for the season. From the advent of training camp, they all felt that this team was capable of something special. Super Bowl aspirations are lofty goal for any team, but Payton noted that this team was confident from the get-go relative to achieving such a goal.

“We put ourselves in this position, and we still have a lot of things we have to improve on,” Payton stated.

There are a handful of things Denver could to that would better position themselves for a deep playoff run. Being more consistent on offensive and finishing drives with touchdowns as opposed to field goals is certainly one. Limiting their self-inflicted wounds and mistakes with respect to penalties and drops would be another.

Far too often, those two have been major issues for them throughout the season. Even so, they’ve gotten to where they are today. But neither of those are the primary focus to rectify moving forward. Above all else, Payton mentioned that generating turnovers is something that needs to happen if they hope to bring home Denver’s fourth Super Bowl victory in franchise history.

“The one area that has to improve is the turnover margin, and that can happen. We did a collective of the last 25 years of Super Bowl winners. It’s something like 114 in the plus,” Payton said.

Rockin’ the throwbacks for the regular-season finale 🔥 pic.twitter.com/GEjAV7LqPc

— Denver Broncos (@Broncos) December 29, 2025

“When the playoffs begin, the Rams recently were the only minus-two turnover team. The rest added up to some crazy number, and so that’s something we have to improve on,” added Payton.

To date, the Broncos have forced just 12 turnovers between their defensive and special team efforts whilst turning the ball over 17 times. Sporting a -5-turnover margin, the Broncos are eighth worst in the NFL. Is that Super Bowl caliber? Definitely not.

The saving grace for the Broncos’ defensive efforts this season have been their ferocious pass rush, red zone defense, and limiting teams on third downs. Alas, since the bye week, the Broncos have taken a step back a bit in all three areas.

If they can improve upon those, as well as start generating some game-changing turnovers, that could ultimately be the formula that helps them achieve what they had set out to do earlier this summer. With Justin Herbert scheduled to be out of action for Sunday’s Week 18 matchup, the Broncos will have the opportunity to rattle Trey Lance. A former top pick from North Dakota State, Lance has four turnovers in fifteen games played since being drafted in 2021.

Will the Broncos rise to the occasion and take care of business in front of an electric hometown crowd this Sunday? I think they will. Moreover, believe forcing a turnover or two will be a key reason why the obtain the #1 seed and homefield advantage in the playoffs.

Horse Tracks: Payton treating Chargers ‘like a playoff game’

gettyimages-2236632501.jpg

The Broncos beat the Chiefs on Christmas Day but had to wait until Sunday when the Los Angeles Chargers lost to the Texans to become the champs of the AFC West.

That anticlimactic finish atop the division was met with an equally anticlimactic reaction from the coach when the “champions” gear showed up in Denver.

“I said, ‘Just put them in the lockers.’ We actually didn’t even talk about it,” Sean Payton said, adding that it was his understanding the gear was “pretty ugly.”

But no matter. The Broncos will be rocking their Throwbacks at the game anyway, and Payton only cares about winning the game and locking up that No. 1 seed.

“The focus was on this week’s game, and the Chargers and the seeding ramifications, really trying to educate them relative to what’s going to be important here down the stretch,” Payton said of his emphasis to the team.

— Denver Broncos (@Broncos) December 29, 2025

And even though Justin Herbert is no longer playing in Week 18 as the Chargers sit him to rest up for the playoffs, the Broncos’ defense learned last week what happens if you don’t take an offense seriously just because QB1 is not in the game.

Payton made it clear that he has full confidence in the defense despite some drop-off in performance in recent weeks, but he does want more takeaways.

“The one area that has to improve is the turnover margin, and that can happen,” Payton said.

The coach isn’t concerned about the pass rush and sack numbers, however.

“I’m worried about caging the quarterback, rushing him properly. So we’re not focused on the sack numbers,” Payton said, adding that going for sacks can sometimes help a QB climb up in the pocket, so containing him is often more important. “A lot of it has to do with who we’ve been playing relative to the quarterback position, but I’m not interested in the sack numbers.”

But however the Broncos can get it done on Sunday to win and earn the No. 1 seed in the AFC is what does interest Payton.

“This game’s very much like a playoff game,” he said.

And the head coach knows that no one deserves the No. 1 seed more than Broncos Country, where the greatest fan base in the NFL deserves playoff games at Mile High.

“Certainly it’s a fan base that deserves that opportunity. I get excited for them, and I get excited for our team,” Payton said, adding that every part of that No. 1 seed is good — the week off, the home crowd, etc. “Man, all of it is important. …The challenge of winning playoff games on the road and how much more difficult that is as opposed to trying to win them at home.”

Sean Payton is treating this Chargers game on Sunday for the 1 seed like a playoff game:

Denver Broncos power rankings around the web for Week 18

imagn-27904341.jpg

The Denver Broncos are tied for the best record in football and control their destiny for the top seed in the AFC. And yet, you’d think they are a fringe playoff team if you asked most media members outside of Denver. It’s a strange situation that seems remarkably close to how things were back in 2015, but with Peyton Manning’s star power it was far more subdued.

The funny thing is these 2025 Broncos have more wins and fewer losses than that fabled 2015 squad. I like where they are at and if they are getting faded by the national media then that is a good thing for this young team to hear. They seem to perform better when no one believes in them.

Here is where the Broncos rank heading into Week 18:

NFL.com: 4th

How much do the loss to the Jaguars and the close win over a stripped-down Chiefs team change our perspective on the Broncos’ playoff potential? They’re in great shape for the AFC’s No. 1 seed, and yet, there’s lingering doubt about just how dangerous they are. If Denver can run the ball and control the clock like it did in Kansas City, things should be OK. The defense can clean up most missed opportunities, but it’s also a unit that has been stretched to the limit by some quality offenses this season. This will be a pretty telling January for Bo Nix as to where he is in his readiness to handle bigger challenges, but it can’t all be on him playing hero ball. The second-year pro could use more help from the rest of the offense doing the little things better.

Yahoo Sports: 2nd

It’s hard to keep the Broncos at No. 3 after the past two weeks. They lost decisively to the Jaguars in Week 16 and barely won as a big favorite over an injured Chiefs team on Christmas. But the body of work is good. If they beat a Chargers team that is resting Justin Herbert in Week 18, they’ll be 14-3 and the No. 1 seed in the AFC. They’re not unbeatable, but nobody in the AFC or behind them in these rankings is this season. It’s still a very good and often disrespected Super Bowl contender.

CBS Sports: 4th

They won another close game at Kansas City, and if they beat the Chargers this week, they are the top seed in the AFC. Winning close games makes you battle-tested, but does it show faults, too?

ESPN: 3rd

Logic and the swirl of numbers through the years always seem to show that close, one-score win ability is not a sustainable thing each season. But these Broncos don’t care much about all that — as linebacker Alex Singleton said, “At this point, let’s just play all one-score games.” The 2025 Broncos, with a title-worthy defense, are 11-2 in one-score games including 3-2 in those decided on the final play (four on field goals and one when linebacker Nik Bonitto swatted away a 2-point conversion attempt in an overtime win in Week 13). That mojo isn’t likely to carry over to next season, but the Broncos certainly believe it could last into January and, they hope, February.

Pro Football Talk: 4th

If the road to Santa Clara goes through Denver, the Broncos may be making the trip.

USA Today: 6th

Why aren’t they No. 1 … even though they might wind up there in the overall AFC standings? The defense is as scary as any in the league. And while the Broncos consistently play to the level of their competition, that’s not necessarily a bad thing when you enter the postseason. But second-year QB Bo Nix remains something of a wild card, and his pattern of salvaging wins in the fourth quarter could be tough to maintain against top-level competition.

Fox Sports: 6th

Yet another close call. Remarkably, 11 of their 13 wins have been by one score or less. In some ways, they look like the AFC champion Chiefs did last year. In others, they look like a team that could get bounced in the first round.

Most of these outlets put the Broncos at 4th or 6th best in the NFL. That’s probably fair given how their wins have looked against inferior opponents. Their one loss since September was against a playoff team, so all other wins against playoff teams should be ignored if you were to ask these media members. Frankly, that’s perfectly fine with me. Let this team fly under the radar with disrespect coming from all sides.

All a team needs is to be in the tournament and if they get the bye this weekend playing at home throughout, their chances of succeeding are much higher. I’ll take those odds all day.

Do you think the Broncos are being fairly ranked heading into Week 18?

Broncos Film Review: Alex Forsyth vs the Chiefs

gettyimages-2253755413.jpg

It’s not often in football that you get the sort of chance to redeem yourself that Alex Forsyth got last week against the Kansas City Chiefs. A little over a year later he gets to return to the spot where he, in part, cost his team a win, and this time around he helps get them in position to clinch a divisional championship.

When Luke Wattenberg was listed out during the week, I was disappointed on behalf of Wattenberg, but there was a part of me happy for Forsyth and confident that he’d be able to get the job done. I’ve been a fan of him over the last couple of seasons, and was even a proponent of him getting a chance to be the starting center this year. Now, Wattenberg more than earned that spot, but this is to say that Forsyth is no slouch.

Forsyth played well on Thursday. But just how did he do and can Denver rely on him for the extent of Wattenberg’s injury? Let’s see what the film says.

Stat crunch

The Denver Broncos had 70 offensive snaps, not including kneel downs. They had 32 designed run plays and 38 designed pass plays. Alex Forsyth played every snap.

Forsyth did not have any blown blocks and gave up zero TFLs. He also gave up zero pressures, WB hits, or sacks.

He had one pancake.

He finished with zero penalties.

Forsyth had zero “Bad” blocks, one “Meh” block, 12 “Alright” blocks, 56 “Good” blocks, and one “Great” block. This was good enough for 66.75 points out of 70, or 95.4%.

In run protection he had 29.75 points out of a possible 32 (93%) and in pass protection he had 37 points out of a possible 38 (97.4%).

In general

Alex Forsyth played very well, especially considering the circumstances surrounding his start and the defensive talent that he was going up against. He filled in seamlessly for Wattenberg, and he was better on a handful of snaps than Wattenberg is on specific blocks.

One thing that is very clear is that (I’d hope for this to be true considering how much they pass) every offensive lineman on this team has solid pass protection fundamentals and instincts. They’re always on the same page as a unit, and it doesn’t matter if it’s the starters, or if someone like Forsyth or Alex Palczewski are in.

It’s also the pass protection that helped Forsyth score as high as he did. This is something I usually expect centers to do, considering how they usually have help from one of their guards.

One thing that jumps off the screen in the run game is how smooth and athletic Forsyth can be on their Outside Zone concepts. He was nailing the majority of his reach blocks, and if he wasn’t able to secure the reach he was quick to transition to washing the defensive tackle out to open up the cutback lane for the running back. Not necessarily making the point that he’s more athletic than Wattenberg, but Forsyth is strong in this department.

And there were a couple of instances of Forsyth getting good vertical displacement on the defensive tackle without guard help, which is not something this offense usually gets. However, Wattenberg is getting better each week with his physicality.

The specifics

Run play – Outside Zone Lead – Good block

Play23-ezgif.com-video-to-gif-converter.gif

Here’s an example of what I was talking about when it comes to his athleticism in the Outside Zone scheme.

Forsyth’s job here is to reach the 1 tech to his left. He takes a nice drop step that loses him a bit of ground vertically, giving him more space to work across the face of the defender. He quickly puts himself in a good spot, and then adjusts his head, putting it on the play side, giving him the leverage needed to properly execute this block.

And if he doesn’t end up running into Adam Prentice, he can keep working laterally for a few more steps and then change his movement to start working vertically and up through the shoulder of the defender. Good block.

Run play – Outside Zone – Good block

Play32-ezgif.com-video-to-gif-converter.gif

Another example of Denver running Outside Zone, but this time Forsyth shows off another technique an offensive lineman can use with this play scheme.

He likely makes the read pre snap that there’s no way he’s going to be able to reach a DT that is lined up that far away from him, so he decides to turn this block into a wash and give Jaleel McLaughlin a cutback lane instead. And that’s exactly what he does.

Forsyth gets his hands underneath the shoulder of the DT, and since the DT has to first engage Ben Powers, Forsyth has an entire midsection to work with, simply driving the man to the sideline, and with the help of Quinn Meinerz and Mike McGlinchey, he opens up a gap big enough to sail an oil tanker through.

And a quick note to point out how McGlinchey’s incredibly quick reach block allows for Meinerz to get enough of a hit on that backer to give Jaleel room to run.

Run play – Inside Zone Lead – Meh block

Play40-ezgif.com-video-to-gif-converter.gif

This is the only “Meh” block that Forsyth had all game. There’s a simple reason as to why he got stalemated at the line of scrimmage: dead feet.

A common saying on the offensive line is stop your feet – get beat. It’s a basic idea but one that can make or break blocks, especially if you don’t have a clear size and strength advantage as the offensive lineman. You can see that Forsyth is able to get his first couple of steps in the ground at a decent speed, but he then transitions to trying to lean on the DT, noticeable in his hip posture, and that freezes his feet for a second, which is long enough to prevent him from getting any vertical displacement.

He then gets shed, giving up the tackle just beyond the line of scrimmage.

Pass play – Drop back – Good block

Play62-ezgif.com-video-to-gif-converter_b81564.gif

As most of Forsyth’s reps in pass protection are relatively bland, here’s one of the more challenging blocks he had to make against the Chiefs.

The Chiefs show two men in the C gap, but obviously only one will attack the gap while the other one slants to the inside. The only question is who is going to slant: the DT or the LB?

Forsyth shows good patience on this block, snapping his eyes to the right after making sure the backer in front of him doesn’t blitz, and then waits while keeping his feet moving, anticipating one of the defenders to slant to him. Note that he avoids going out to the defender, but rather gets to the hip of Meinerz and waits for the defense to come to him. This lessens the risk of him lunging at the defender, losing his balance, and getting beat.

On contact he absorbs the hit and settles into his base, stopping the defender in his tracks.

Run play – Outside Zone – Great block

Play64-ezgif-720598d25a28fc76.gif

I know we’ve already seen two Outside Zone reps, but I had to talk about this one.

Now there might be some controversy with me calling this both a “Great” block and a pancake, considering that the defender only falls down when Forsyth drives him into the feet of Courtland Sutton. What made me give him this grade is that I really feel like he was going to get the pancake even without Sutton getting in the way. The leverage that he had on the backer, how far back on his heels the defender was getting, and the general feel of the block leads me to feel that way.

Almost every time an offensive lineman gets their hands on a second-level defender in this manner, that ends with the defender on the ground.

Debate me if you want on this. It’s fair. But no matter what, Forsyth does such a good job of clearing his gap, closing the space between him and the backer, getting hands on the chest, and running through the block. This block can’t really get much better.

Final thoughts

Alex Forsyth is another piece of evidence that the Broncos might have the best offensive line backups in the entire league. Between him and Palczewski, it feels like Denver has the ability to just plug in anyone into their starting line and have it look like nothing ever happened. It’s seamless. Forsyth could be a starter on a good chunk of teams.

If they can keep producing talent at this rate, then Zach Strief should be the highest paid offensive line coach in NFL history, and Paton and Payton should be in charge of talent acquisition for decades to come.

This a big game for the Denver Broncos who need a win to close out a 14-win season and the top seed in the AFC. The bye week in the playoffs would be huge for them on both the preparation side of things and the injury side of things. The Los Angeles Chargers are totally locked into the wild card position and will be resting several key starters and veterans for this game. For a game the Broncos must have, they should come out and perform well. However, the one caveat to this season is that they have tended to play up or down to their level of competition. Will that trend continue through Week 18?

Kickoff is set for 2:25 p.m. Mile High time on Sunday, January 4, 2026 at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, Colorado. You can watch the live stream of the game through FuboTV or on CBS. The game will be called by Jim Nantz (play-by-play), Tony Romo (analyst), and Tracy Wolfson (sideline). You can also check local Broncos radio network affiliate stations.

Broncos vs Chargers Week 18: Keys to victory

gettyimages-2245525513.jpg

We’re finally here. It’s the last week of the regular season and the AFC West Champion Denver Broncos have a chance to lock up home field advantage throughout the Playoffs, and with the added bonus of the Super Bowl being at Levi Stadium, a place that Denver doesn’t seem to mind playing at.

Here’s how the Broncos win their fourteenth game of the season.

1. Dominate time of possession

Their last game against the Chiefs was a lot closer than it should have been, but through most of the game it had the feeling that it wasn’t as close as the scoreboard may have demonstrated. The Broncos absolutely dominated time of possession, and over the last few weeks they’ve been a lot better at putting together extended offensive drives. Over the last four games they have 11 drives of 10 or more plays, with a 19-play drive being their longest.

If they’re able to keep the clock moving, keep the Chargers’ offense off the field, and finish drives with touchdowns, then this game will be over quick and they’ll be able to put it out of reach even quicker.

2. Force multiple turnovers

The Broncos, while they have a top-three defense in yards, top-four defense in points, and have the most sacks in the league, they rank 25th in turnover margin at -5 and 27th in takeaways with 12 (nine interceptions and three fumbles). It really is impressive, in a way, that Denver is able to hold offenses to such few yards without managing even one turnover a game.

Especially considering they’re going against back ups on Sunday, it would mean a lot for this defense, who has relatively struggled since the bye week, if they’re able to generate multiple turnovers on Sunday. Maybe Talanoa Hufanga can finally keep a hold of a pick because he should have at least five this year. And given how good the offense has been at elongating drives, maybe just even one turnover can put this game out of reach.

The Chargers this year have given the ball away 19 times, right around the middle of the pack in giveaways. They have one of the better offenses in the league too. Vance Joseph needs to come up with something to fix this lack of game-changing plays.

3. Play clean

If it wasn’t for that incredible defensive effort by the Chiefs to pick Bo Nix off on their side of the 50 yard line, that game last week would’ve been not nearly as close as it ended up being. And I have a feeling that they’ll have a similar game plan this week.

This point goes hand-in-hand with the first one. If the Broncos want to dominate time of possession then they’ll need to stay ahead of the sticks. No bad penalties are allowed. And they were pretty clean last week too in the penalty department. Offensively they only had that bogus false start and pass interference calls go against them. If they can recreate that on Sunday then they’ll be in the driver’s seat the entire game.

No turnovers, no penalties, no making things harder for yourself. If Denver can to that then they should be able to cruise to the No. 1 seed.

2025 NFL Week 18: Hart’s Picks

gettyimages-2253606400.jpg

Week 18 of the NFL regular season is finally here. I was 10-6 with my Week 17 picks. With just sixteen games left, I’m 170-86 on the season. That’s over 65-percent accuracy which is quite good, but far below my 70-percent average from last season. Let’s see how well I do for the final week of regular season games.

Saturday Football (Afternoon Game) — Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Winner:
Buccaneers

With the Atlanta Falcons upsetting the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football, the Buccaneers’ path to the postseason had a wrench thrown int. They must now win and have the New Orleans Saints defeat the Atlanta Falcons to secure the NFC South and earn a playoff berth. That’s unfortunate news for them. Can they finally end their four-game win streak and do their part to get to the postseason? I think so.

Saturday Football (Night Game) — Seattle Seahawks at San Francisco 49ers

Winner:
49ers

This NFC West heavyweight matchup is for the division title and the number one seed in the NFC. Both of these teams have defied the odds and impressed all season. This is going to be a must-watch game for all football fans. The 49ers inched out a close victory in their first matchup in Week 1. I expect this will be another close game. I’ve got the 49ers finding a way to gut this key game out in front of a hometown crowd.

Sunday Football (Early Game) — New Orleans Saints at Atlanta Falcons

Winner:
Saints

Both the Saints and Falcons have reeled off multi-game winning streaks after starting off the season horribly. As mentioned above, Tampa Bay fans are desperately hoping the Saints finish the season off on a high note and earn their fifth-straight victory. And guess what? I’m predicting that to happen. Based on my picks, the Buccaneers are in the playoffs as the NFC South champions.

Sunday Football (Earl Game) — Cleveland Browns at Cincinnati Bengals

Winner:
Bengals

The Browns were able to upset the Pittsburgh Steelers and play spoiler last weekend. I don’t expect them to have the same success against the Bengals, who have notched back-to-back wins with impressive offensive performances. I’ve got Cincinnati at home in this one.

"That was sick."

Mic'd Up | @altafiber pic.twitter.com/L23CO3bMBo

— Cincinnati Bengals (@Bengals) December 31, 2025

Saturday Football (Evening Game) — Green Bay Packers at Minnesota Vikings

Winner:
Vikings

The Packers have dropped three in a row. Luckily, they already punched their postseason ticket. Meanwhile, the Vikings are riding a four-game winning streak. I’m not sure if the Packers are expected to rest players or not. They are the seven seed in the NFC regardless of the outcome. My bet is that is the case. With that in mind, I’ll take Minnesota at home.

Sunday Football (Early Game) — Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants

Winner:
Cowboys

Another game, another division rivalry matchup. With the Giants beating the Las Vegas Raiders last week, they find themselves on the outside looking in with respect to the #1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. The Cowboys? Out of the playoffs for the second season in a row. Even so, I’ve still got Dallas winning this one.

Sunday Football (Early Game) — Tennessee Titans at Jacksonville Jaguars

Winner:
Jaguars

There are some ways the Jaguars can still be the #1 seed in the AFC. That seems improbable. With a win against the Titans, they will be the AFC South champions and get to host a playoff game. I feel confident that scenario will happen.

Sunday Football (Early Game) — Indianapolis Colts at Houston Texans

Winner:
Texans

After a rough start to the year, DeMeco Ryans and the Texans have really done well down the stretch. Their defense has been the strength of their team that has carried them all season long. I’m predicting a win at home, which will likely lock them in as the #5 seed in the AFC playoff race.

Safe to say we were all feeling the same way as Coach 😅

🤘 | #SonyPartner pic.twitter.com/RV3lcloW0P

— Houston Texans (@HoustonTexans) December 31, 2025

Sunday Football (Afternoon Game) — New York Jets at Buffalo Bills

Winner:
Bills

A failed two-point conversion attempt at the end of last week’s game officially kicked the Bills out of contending for the AFC East title. That belongs to the New England Patriots. Regardless, I think they will find a way to beat the Jets who’ve been awful the entire season. I’m taking Buffalo at home.

Sunday Football (Afternoon Game) — Detroit Lions at Chicago Bears

Winner:
Bears

With the Bears losing to the 49ers, they have no shot at the #1 seed in the NFC. They are assured the second or third seed no matter what happens in this game. Some thought Ben Johnson might rest his players, but he stated earlier in the week they are playing to win—indicating the starters will be a go for Sunday’s division rivalry game against the Lions. Division games are always tough, and the Lions are a gritty team, but I think the Bears find a way to end the season off with a big victory. I’m taking Chicago.

Sunday Football (Late Game) — Kansas City Chiefs at Las Vegas Raiders

Winner:
Chiefs

It makes my heart smile the Chiefs and Raiders have had down seasons. I don’t really care who wins this game. I’m taking Kansas City here which will officially gift the Raiders the #1 pick next April.

Sunday Football (Early Game) — Los Angeles Chargers at Denver Broncos

Winner:
Broncos

The Chargers and Broncos are both in the playoffs. Los Angeles will be a wild card team, but the Broncos can earn the AFC’s top seed, first-round bye and homefield advantage by taking down their rivals in front of Broncos Country on Sunday. That’s a result I’m hoping for and believe will happen. Obviously, I’m taking Denver.

Throwing it 🔙 at @EmpowerField this Sunday 😤 pic.twitter.com/W6u2xonlyU

— Denver Broncos (@Broncos) December 30, 2025

Sunday Football (Afternoon Game) — Miami Dolphins at New England Patriots

Winner:
Patriots

If the Patriots beat the Dolphins and the Broncos lose to the Chargers, New England will be the top seed in the AFC. With that at stake, they will certainly be playing their starters. I believe Drake Maye, who might even be the front runner for MVP honors, is going to have another huge game and deliver the Patriots their fourteen victory of the season.

Sunday Football (Afternoon Game) — Arizona Cardinals at Los Angeles Rams

Winner:
Rams

After their last second loss to the Falcons, the Rams are now relegated to being either the fifth or sixth seed in the NFC. Bummer for them. Whether they rest their starters or not, I think they defeat the Cardinals who have dropped eight games in a row. I’m picking Los Angeles.

Sunday Football (Afternoon Game) — Washington Commanders at Philadelphia Eagles

Winner:
Eagles

The Eagles will be the second or third seed in the NFC no matter what happens here. They still have the perks of being the NFC East division winners and get to host a playoff game. The rumor is they may rest some starters. Even so, I think they beat Washington who’ve looked terrible for the entire season.

Sunday Night Football — Baltimore Ravens at Pittsburgh Steelers

Winner:
Ravens

The Steelers had a chance to make the playoffs and secure the AFC North division title had they beat the Browns last weekend. Unfortunately, they didn’t rise to the occasion and lost to the lowly Browns. That sets up a primetime matchup in Week 18 against the Baltimore Ravens. Baltimore was able to outduel the Green Bay Packers in Week 17. The Ravens are expected to have Lamar Jackson and a few players back for this game. It’ll be a tough go of it on the road, but I think Baltimore is poised to come back and win the division. Pretty impressive given how bad they were earlier in the season.

Broncos vs. Chargers: Friday practice participation report

imagn-27487682.jpg

The Denver Broncos have mostly good news heading into their Week 18 home game against the Los Angeles Chargers. They will have wide receiver Pat Bryant, guard Ben Powers, and tight end Nate Adkins all at full participation and ready to play on Sunday as the team looks to secure the top seed in the AFC. Defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers is questionable with a nagging hip injury that has limited him all week.

For the Chargers, they have ruled out running back Omarion Hampton and we already have confirmation that quarterback Justin Herbert will also be rested ahead of the playoffs. There will likely be more guys who will sit this one out since the team is locked in to play Wild Card weekend and having this mini-bye for their best players could help them win next week.

Here is your full practice report for Friday.

National perception, a dominating win, and does any of it matter to the Denver Broncos

imagn-26144006.jpg

On Saturday, when Mike Decicco and I recorded our Something Something Broncos podcast, I was ranting and raving that the national media not giving Denver its rightful due as the top seed in the not just the AFC, but the entire NFL. We all watched as teams below the Broncos in the standings were made regular season Super Bowl darlings. To listen to the narrative is to believe that the Las Angeles Rams were the most dominant team ever assembled… until they tumbled to the 6 seed.

My podcast cohort (and chicken pot pie enthusiast), Mike, asked why it was so important for the media to recognize the Broncos as the team we all know them to be. Since we’ve recorded, I have had some time to reflect on what he asked. Why is it so important?

Truth be told, the Broncos are always in this position. With only a couple of exceptions, Denver has always been this anomalous outlier, not part of either coast and yet painfully relevant. Much to everyone’s chagrin, that ‘dusy old cow town’ became a football city and Coloradans have been fighting for the respect just handed out willy-nilly to teams that don’t deserve it like the Dallas Cowboys or, in this year’s case, the LA Rams. Can you imagine if Denver owned the benefit of the doubt like those teams?

I get it, it’s hard to come up with new narratives. It’s much easier to recycle storylines from previous years. Nobody mourned the Chiefs elimination from the playoffs more than the lazy national media types. Without any obnoxious Kelce family antics or Taylor Swift, their football world has been turned upside down and it’s entirely the Broncos fault. I’m sorry you have to generate new thoughts and feelings on things not the Chiefs.

With the Los Angeles Chargers resting many of their starters on Sunday, I told Mike it was important for the Broncos to come out and stomp their guts. This can’t be a repeat of the Chiefs game on Christmas Day. Letting a team resting its started and with nothing to play for hang around is unacceptable when it’s for the first overall seed, an all important bye, and homefield throughout the playoffs.

This Sunday the Broncos need to win decisively against the depleted Chargers. Run up the score. Embarrass them. It’s time for the Broncos to make a statement to the rest of the league that, yes, they’re for real and, no, they’re not the one-and-done team from last year. The Broncos need to make it impossible for the national media to fawn after any team with fewer wins. Denver needs to make those mental gymnastics of placing a 11-win team over a 13-win team all that much more uncomfortable.

Why?

…because we are the Denver Broncos are the best team in the NFL and it needs to stay that way.

Saturday Football Week 18: Seahawks at 49ers – Live Discussion

imagn-27896532.jpg

The NFC West and the conferences top seed will be decided by the outcome of this game between the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks. It’s winner take all. The loser will end up the five or six seed. The 49ers do have a couple of key starters on offense who are banged up in George Kittle and Ricky Pearsall, but you have to think they will play given the importance of the playoff bye would bring.

Kickoff is set for Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. Mile High time at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California and will air on ABC.

My Prediction

According to FanDuel, the Seahawks are surprising 2.5-point favorites on the road against their division rival 49ers. I was going to pick Seattle to win this game until I saw this line. Playoff contender home teams being underdogs at home can be a massive motivator. I expect them to come out feisty in this game and ultimately win as underdogs to secure the NFC’s top seed.

Prediction: 49ers 30, Seahawks 27.
