The Red Sox third baseman http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/beltrad01.shtml]Adrian Beltre seems to be close to reaching a deal with the http://texas.rangers.mlb.com/index.jsp?c_id=tex]Texas Rangers. The deal is rumored to be a 6 year deal. One thing with the deal is that the Rangers already have a third baseman in Michael Young. The question is, "What to do with Young?"

http://texas.rangers.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=276545]Michael Young has been the face of the Rangers franchise for over 10 years through thick and thin. He is one of the most recognizable stars in Dallas and letting him go would not be good for the Rangers fan base. The other option would be moving Young to DH and having him play utility infield. In my opinion trading Young would not be acceptable but moving him to DH will not be a bad thing for the team. Young did not have a great year at third fielding but hit really well.

The question for me is, "What does Young think?" Michael has said, "I will do what is best for the team." In this case i think that this may be a good move for the Rangers. I do not think they should trade Young and he has said he doesn't want to be. But signing Beltre will make the team better.

The signing of Beltre will probably mean that http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/g/guerrvl01.shtml]Vlad Guerrero will not be resigned. But i do think that Beltre is an upgrade since he has about the same hitting but can field.

Yep I have a feeling Adrian Beltre could be one of the greatest pickups of the offseason. They should consider trading Young, see what they can get. Maybe a starting pitcher.

Michael Young is worth something for sure, maybe they could pick up a starter that could really fill in Cliff Lee's shoes, not that it's possible to replace a pitcher like Cliff Lee. :P
Personally, when I think of Michael Young, I think of him as a Ranger, so I think he should stay with them. He is a good player and I am sure he is a good teammate. I think he should retire one day as a Ranger.

Don't you think Adrian Beltre is too old to be signining a 6 year deal. He's already 31, so he will be 37 when the contract is over which I doubt he will play through the whole contract.

Really i don't think they would get much for Young. There isn't much good pitching out there at this point and they have already told him they will not trade him. Another thing is he has 10 and 5 rights. That is since he has played in the MLB for 10 years and at least 5 for one team he can reject any trade they try to make. I don't think he wants to leave Texas.

I thought that this may be a problem too but i will not be worrying about it at this point. Rumor is that the 6th year is an option so he may not even get it. Also the Rangers have a lot of salary space to work with.

Adrian Bletre is now a Texas Ranger. The deal is 6 years. I think this was a good move for them. They have also told Young that he will not be moved. This makes the left side of their infield one of the best in baseball. The Rangers also said that they will not be resigning Vlad Guerrero.

I am starting to get exited again for next season.
