Sorry I forgot to post a Poll of the Week this week. I will have to just skip that week.

But how about the AL Wild Card race right now! The Rays are not out of it! I'm sure Cmt is happy to hear that. The Red Sox have almost completely lost any chance to win the AL East as the Yankees are playing so well, and are losing their lead in the Wild Card.

The Red Sox and Rays just started a 4 game series today, and the Red Sox are up by 4 games. This is the last series of the season against the two teams, so it is crucial for both teams to win. The Rays have been propelled by great pitching, and a rookie emergence of Matt Moore, and a resurgence of BJ Upton's bat. The Red Sox have cooled off with their pitching, and are in jeopardy of not getting a playoff spot.

They are still in a good spot to hold on in the Wild Card. (Which I think will happen) But the Rays are totally making it interesting. I expect it to be tight down the end, and the winner of this series right now will really benefit.

So who do you think will win the AL Wild Card? And if the Rays pull off the comeback, will it be one of the biggest comebacks in MLB history?
 
I'm gonna...you don't even wanna know what I'll do if we don't make the playoffs.
The way we've been playing lately is absolutely horrendous.
We were on pace to win more than 100 games, and now we might not even make the playoffs.
 
Season not over even tho i havent been paying much attention to baseball lately. Do the Redsox still have a shot at the division i like The Rays and Sox as well but obviously we know they both cant make it unless the yankees just fold.
 
Sox won today; they're now 4 games ahead in the wild card.
Papelbon became the first person ever to win 30 saves in their first six seasons.

I think we're 3.5 games behind New York. We still have a series with them, so anything could happen.

We are all done playing Tampa, I think.
 
I don't expect the Rays to pull this comeback out, they're not a strong enough team. It's still quite a story though, the Rays will most likely finish just out of reach of the playoffs, but what a season. They lost a huge portion of the team during the off-season, and they have still managed to win some games. Also, last night's game was ridiculous. The umpire made me laugh, he had a gigantic strike zone, which is why there were so many strikeouts with no swing on the final strike, some people call this "struck out looking." It was also unfair, you could tell it was a home game, not because of the green monster, but because of the umpires. You could tell that the umpire's strike zone was different depending on the team, which is what Joe Maddon's argument was when he was ejected. I'm not being bias either, they even talked about the game being so unfair on Baseball Tonight. What can you do though? That's home field advantage for you...

ESPN the Magazine did a whole study on home field advantage, and the number one factor that home field advantage affects are the umpire/referee's calls.

Anyway, the Red Sox look like they could be swept by the Nationals right now, and they probably would be (if they played the Nats, that is).
