While at work last night this came up so I thought I would ask everyone...
What are your theories to what will happen? Do you believe anything out there? The whole planet alignment thing has happened before with no issue, that has een proven through science.

I think the whole idea is just ridiculous. Plus, I'm a Catholic, so I don't think anyone knows when the end of the world will be.

Not sure if you guys heard about it, but earlier this year, they found the earliest known Mayan calender, and it went way beyond 2012, so the whole thing is basically debunked.

nothing its all stupid theories like the thing in 2000 when computers were supposed to melt

I agree, it's a complete joke, but people like to speculate things a lot, especially dealing with death. Take Harold Camping's predictions for example. Most people didn't take his predictions seriously, but some of his followers legitimately did. He predicted the end of the world multiple times and was of course, wrong every time. People like to take things to the extreme. A simple prediction like his made headlines across the globe.

Yeah, it's silly people are believing the movie 2012 if that would have been accurate we would have seen cracks in the Earth by now. I also wonder how many people have wasted money on underground shelters so far.

I heard a little bit about that. I'm not sure if it's completely debunked, as I think they would have made a bigger deal about it if it is. It would have been all over the news and stuff.

They would have made a bigger deal out of it? Lol please, the 2012 end of the world theory is a complete joke that shouldn't even be even taken seriously in the first place.

Nothing is going to happen. If we were going to go extinct, it would be either from a foreign object crashing down on earth or on our own expense.

I hope I am right in saying that the end of the world will not happen in our lifetime. Don't get me wrong, it's going to happen someday, but it won't be when any of us are still alive. I mean, the world is supposed to end on the 21st of December right? I don't see anyone panicking about this and I certainly don't think it's true.

Every generation likes to believe that they're the last. We're somehow obsessed with the thought of death, the end of the world, etc. But things have changed since the 20th century. What's changed? The distribution and easy access of information.

I actually wouldn't rule that out by being a bad thing. An underground shelter can be used for all kinds of things and can actually protect you from serious storms etc.

Yes I understand, but unless you have a lot of money I don't know why people would be that stupid to buy one for 2012.
