I am really surprised that it took this long to get this thread made. The 2011 Home Run Derby was last night, it ended up being a show down between Yankees player Robinson Cano and Red Sox player Adrian Gonzalez. Robinson Cano would eventually win and become the champion of the Home Run Derby this year. One thing that was interesting about it is the fact that Robinson Cano's dad pitched to him; he was a MLB pitcher back in the 80s. One new thing they did in this year's Home Run Derby is that the had teams: AL & NL, of course. David Ortiz (2010 Home Run Derby Champion) was the AL captain and Prince Fielder (2009 Home Run Derby Champion) was the NL captain. Both of these captains were knocked out in the 2nd round. We also almost saw another fatal falling, this time at the Home Run Derby. Read http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AiOBckEFhXZZkzBvV2..68QRvLYF?slug=ap-allstar-danglingfan]here[/url]. I saw a few pictures of it, and he was like standing on the railing and leaning over trying to catch a home run ball hit by Prince Fielder. He ended up losing his balance and starting to fall but friends and fans managed to catch his feet and pull him back into the stands. He is lucky to be alive. Anyways, last night was also the 2011 All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game; one of my favorite yearly sporting events mind you. It featured legends like Ozzie Smith, Ricky Henderson, and Mike Piazza. It featured celebrities like Nick Jonas (wow), the guy who is the voice of Diego on the show "Go Diego, Go!" and even a former Victoria's Secret model. They had teams, AL and NL of course. The NL team ended up beating the AL 5-3. It was a good game. Now tonight we have the actual 2011 all-star game. I don't like the all-star game very much for a few different reasons, mainly because I don't like that it's fan-voting (fans will vote for fan-favorite players that haven't had good seasons, and with bandwagon fans, we tend to see undeserved votes for Yankees players), and I don't like that it decides home-field advantage for the World Series. It still should be a great game, I think it has just started. So, anyways; this is the discussion thread for everything involving the 2011 MLB All-Star events.

I'm watching the game. Go AL!

I just saw Curtis Granderson's season stats for the first time this year. WOW. He has more homeruns than Prince Fielder....and he's a leadoff hitter.

It's a pretty boring all-star game so far, it's the top of the 7th inning and the National League is up 4-1 against the American League.

NL won, 5-1. Pretty boring game...I didn't watch much of it.

Prince Fielder had a 3 run homerun that basically sealed the deal for the NL.

Oh I forgot to mention it yesterday, but Derek Jeter dropped out of the All-Star game. Do you guys agree with this move?

Also, Josh Beckett was scratched from the game due to soreness in his knee, and Miguel Cabrera left the game in the 7th inning due to an injured side. That would suck to get hurt in the All-Star game...

I do agree with Derek Jeter's move, there is no reason for him to take the chance and making the injury he had worse. He still isn't 100% healthy, so let's not take chances. David Price also dropped out because of soreness involving his toe or something. :P

Yeah that catch was sweet. The game was good. But the American League was outpitched and couldn't score any runs.

So, is this a new leaf for the National League now? Will it or is it already more powerful then the American League? The National League won the 2010 All-Star Game, the 2010 World Series, and the 2011 All-Star Game. Has the American League lost it's mojo of always being better than the National League? :P
