Nakobe Dean stayed loyal to the Eagles by signing with Las Vegas

There had been some speculation after Christian Parker was hired as the DC for the Cowboys that he would try to lure some of his former Eagles players to their NFC East rival, including Nakobe Dean. The linebacker ended up agreeing to sign with the Raiders at the start of the NFL’s legal tampering window, but it turns out that the Cowboys made a big push to get Dean to Dallas.

Jane Slater reported that the Cowboys were very competitive for Dean, but couldn’t pull it off.

“[Nakobe Dean] was one of their 5 zooms allowed. I’m told their offer was similar to the Raiders but ultimately he went with his gut feeling but was told he could have seen himself in both places and it was “51/49” margin but Raiders won this one.“

Perhaps Dean’s gut feeling was a tinge of loyalty to the Birds and to the City of Philadelphia — or perhaps he knew that the Cowboys wouldn’t have the kind of success he’s been used to with the Eagles. Either way, it’s good for his former team that they won’t have to face him twice a season, and it’s a small gesture, intentional or not, that will keep Dean welcome in Philly for the rest of his career.

Matt Pryor is not returning to the Eagles

The Eagles might be losing several offensive lineman this offseason. The first to sign elsewhere is offensive guard/tackle Matt Pryor. The Eagles’ 2018 draft pick will reportedly be headed to Arizona on a one-year contract with the Cardinals.

Pryor, who turns 32 this season, has bounced around the league a bit during his seven-year career, and after stops in Indianapolis, San Francisco, and Chicago, he ended up back in Philadelphia for the 2025 season. He filled in at times for Lane Johnson, Tyler Steen, and Landon Dickerson, but only took a total of 112 offensive snaps — this just one season after recording 1,086 total offensive snaps as a starting guard with the Bears.

He has a lot of experience and can be a solid backup. Pryor struggled at times with the Eagles, but the offensive line as a whole took a step back last season, and the run game struggled as a result.

With the departure of Jeff Stoutland, the Eagles have a new offensive line coach this season. Chris Kuper may be looking to make his mark on the room. All five starters might already be in place, but Kuper can definitely set things up differently with the depth at several positions as they implement a new system in Philly.

Riq Woolen was the missing piece in the Eagles’ secondary

The Eagles made an unexpected splash ahead of the official start of free agency and came to an agreement with free agent cornerback Tariq Woolen on a one-year deal worth “up to” $15 million. He knows what it takes to win a Super Bowl, and will be able to keep that mentality in Philadelphia.

Immediate reactions to the move were excitement and appreciation for what he’ll add to the cornerback room alongside Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean. The group instantly becomes one of the “stickiest” in the league, and should compensate for any drop off from losing guys like Jaelan Phillips and Nakobe Dean.

Even former Eagles captain Darius Slay was supportive of the move.

The #eagles were in need of a CB opposite star Quinyon Mitchell. Riq Woolen moved around last year, 382 snaps at left CB, 376 at right CB, 14 snaps at slot. Among CBs targeted at least 50 times, Woolen allowed the 6th lowest completion % (49.2) last season per Next Gen Stats.

Brandon Graham says he’s not retiring

The Philadelphia Eagles are sorting out their roster as the new league year has officially started, and a familiar face might be back in the building for one more go around. Brandon Graham was speaking at an event honoring Dick Vermeil on Wednesday evening, and he made comments alluding to his return for his 16th season.

”Hopefully we can win another in my last season coming up,“ as reported by John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia.

BG and the Eagles were both optimistic about a future together after the end of last season, but nothing has been formally announced about his return. Coming off his half-season in 2025, the franchise legend was still playing at a high level and is still capable of contributing in a limited role.

With the Eagles losing Jaelan Phillips, Josh Uche, and Azeez OJulari, keeping BG is a smart move. He’ll be an affordable option and is invaluable in the locker room.

There are plenty of other roster moves the Eagles are making over the coming days, so finalizing something with Graham might just be lower on the priority list.

Vic Fangio says Jihaad Campbell will “miss probably most of the offseason” with a shoulder injury

Speaking to John Clark at an event to honor Dick Vermeil on Wednesday evening, Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio revealed some unexpected injury news about Jihaad Campbell.

You can watch the full NBC Sports Philadelphia interview for yourself but here’s the relevant exchange as it relates to Philadelphia’s 2025 first-round pick (hat tip to @DibonaNFL):

CLARK: As far as Nakobe Dean and Jaelan Phillips against the run, how ready is Jihaad Campbell for that spot now in Nakobe’s spot?

FANGIO: Well, he’s got to be ready. And we’ve got to do a good job of getting him ready. You know, he is dealing with a shoulder injury. He’s going to miss probably most of the offseason. So, we’re going to have to cram it into him in training camp and hopefully we have enough work to get that done for him.

Yikes.

With the Eagles unsurprisingly losing Dean in free agency, Campbell is slated to take his place in the starting lineup moving forward. It would be ideal for Campbell, who just turned 22 years old last month, to have a full offseason to help prepare him to be a full-time starter. But apparently that won’t be the case.

Now, it should be noted that Fangio has been wrong about Campbell’s recovery timeline before. Speaking during an early June 2025 press conference, the Eagles’ defensive coordinator said Campbell wouldn’t participate in training camp “until sometime in August.” But Campbell basically turned out to be ready from the team’s first practice on July 23.

But that situation doesn’t necessarily mean Fangio is also wrong here. And if we’re parsing his answer, which we are, I wonder if by “most of the offseason” he means the Eagles’ voluntary spring offseason workout program. It wouldn’t be ideal for Campbell to miss that time. But it would at least be good to see him ready by the time starting camp starts in late July, which might be possible. We’ll see.

The exact nature of Campbell’s shoulder injury currently isn’t clear. He was only listed with a shoulder injury when he had a “shoulder/back” injury description leading up to Week 18. He was limited for a Wednesday practice before fully practicing on Thursday and Friday that week. With the Eagles resting starters, Campbell played most of the game in the regular season finale. He was not listed on the injury report ahead of the team’s Wild Card game.

Of course, Campbell has a history of shoulder injuries that likely contributed to him falling further than originally expected in the 2025 NFL Draft.

This Campbell news could help to explain why the Eagles were recently checking in on Patrick Queen’s price tag:

Previously, that report made no real sense. And it’s still quite possible it doesn’t happen. But now it’s at least a little understandable where Philly’s interest was coming from.

Assuming the Eagles don’t acquire Queen or another starting-caliber linebacker, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. stands to benefit from the time that Campbell misses this offseason. Trot Jr. saw a lot of first-team off-ball linebacker reps last year before he ultimately lost the job to Campbell. He didn’t play poorly, however. Just the opposite, really; he’s looked good whenever he’s had the chance to shine … albeit in small sample sizes.

The Eagles will hope that the missed time doesn’t stunt Campbell’s development. Sometimes young players really make a big jump from Year 1 to Year 2 after having the benefit of a full offseason in an NFL team’s workout program. Campbell played a bunch as a rookie but not quite as much as he could’ve since he lost playing time to a superior player in Dean.

Not the end of the world that he could be behind the eight ball entering his sophomore season but it’s not ideal, either.

Eagles reportedly sign veteran cornerback

The Philadelphia Eagles are signing free agent cornerback Jonathan Jones, according to a report from NFL insider Jonathan Jones. (Isn’t that fun?)

Jones, who turns 33 in September, brings experience to the table with 80 career starts in 152 games played (including playoffs) over 10 seasons. He’s logged 11 interceptions, 62 passes defensed, and 10 forced fumbles.

He most recently made seven starts in 12 games for the geriatric Washington Commanders last season. Jones allowed a mere 87.3 passer rating when targeted in coverage.

Prior to joining the Commanders, Jones spent nine seasons with the New England Patriots. It’s there he overlapped with new Eagles secondary coach Mike Pellegrino, who served as Jones’ position coach from 2019-2024.

At first glance, Jones seems like a signing to give the Eagles credible depth behind a very impressive corner trio of Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, and the newly signed Riq Woolen.

Jones has mostly played outside cornerback in recent seasons (2022-2025) but prior to that the 5’9”, 185 pound defender took most of his snaps in the slot. He also has some limited experience at safety, which is a position the Eagles still need to fill.

Adding an experienced and versatile option like Jones seems like a strong addition to the secondary, especially if he’s here for depth purposes.

Eagles reportedly sign pass rusher to one-year contract

The Philadelphia Eagles have been on the hunt for a new edge rusher after losing Jaelan Phillips in free agency and now they have a new one.

The Birds are signing Temple and Penn State alumnus Arnold Ebiketie to a one-year contract worth a maximum of $7.3 million with $4.3 million guaranteed, according to a report from NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Ebiketie (ebb-uh-KAY-tee) was a high second-round pick (No. 38 overall) in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons. Making 12 starts in 67 games played (just one missed game in his career), he’s logged 16.5 total sacks, four forced fumbles, 17 tackles for loss, and 41 quarterback hits.

The 27-year-old edge’s career high for sacks in a season is six, which he posted in both 2023 and 2024. He only had two last season.

So, it’s safe to say the Eagles aren’t getting a no doubt about it kind of impact defender here. This isn’t signing Trey Hendrickson, who Philly reportedly had interest in before he joined the Baltimore Ravens instead. This isn’t trading for Jonathan Greenard, who had a down year in 2025 but posted strong production the two years prior.

Rather, the Eagles seem to be hoping that Ebiketie’s best football could be yet to come.

Ebiketie joins a pass rush rotation that currently includes Jalyx Hunt, Nolan Smith, and Jose Ramirez (who currently seems like a long shot). It’s also quite possible that Brandon Graham, who said he doesn’t plan on retiring, joins that group. And then there’s the possibility of the team adding more to this position in the 2026 NFL Draft.

If the Eagles are done adding to this position, I think it’s fair to feel underwhelmed. Hunt had a very encouraging 2025, that’s for sure. Smith needs to prove he can stay healthy and get back to where he was at late in 2024. Ebiketie might be Just A Guy?

There’s reason to believe that Vic Fangio and his assistant coaches can help get the most of this unit to field a strong defense again in 2026. They’ve earned some benefit of the doubt after the past two seasons. There’s also reason to wonder if there’s enough pass rushing talent on the roster. There clearly wasn’t last year, which is why the Eagles traded for Phillips.

Pre-draft scouting report via NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein (note that the Eagles brought him in for a top 30 visit in 2022):

Purposeful rusher with good length. Ebiketie is quiet to the edge with accurate, active hands and a pressure percentage worthy of projection. He’s not bendy and loose but uses body lean and skilled hands to grease the edge and access the pocket. He will need to keep adding to his bag of tricks as a pocket hunter, as he lacks the base and body type to hold his ground and plug up run games on a consistent basis. Ebiketie could see action as a sub-package pass rusher early in his career. He has the potential to find starting reps as a 3-4 rush linebacker in the future.

A.J. Brown trade talks reportedly tabled for now

Hopefully this is the last A.J. Brown update we have for some time …

NFL free agency has been largely filled with speculation about potential trade options for the Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver, but for now, it appears that things have stalled and won’t likely resurface until closer to June 1.

Dianna Russini reported the following on Friday evening:

“After serious conversations with both the Rams and Patriots, the Eagles will not trade A.J. Brown at this time, according to multiple league sources.

Both teams remain interested, but no move is imminent. If a trade were to happen, it would likely heat up closer to June 1.“

While the Patriots and Rams were reportedly interested in trading for Brown, Howie Roseman was said to be firm in his asking price, in part because of the dead cap hit they’d take on by moving him before June 1.

The team moving on with the offseason plan means they’re set in the financial plan as it relates to holding Brown’s contract. Tight end Dallas Goedert is still trying to work out a new deal to return to the Eagles, but Howie was delayed in some of the free agency decisions until they knew where they were with Brown’s contract.

Dallas Goedert, Eagles agree to push back deadline … again

Dallas Goedert’s contract was originally set to void by the end of Tuesday, March 10 but that date was pushed back to Friday, March 13.

Now the two sides have agreed to delay the deadline even further to Monday, March 16.

This much according to a report from The Athletic’s Zach Berman.

If you’re hoping for Goedert to remain in Philly, the bad news is that they haven’t been able to work out a deal yet. The good news is that there’s more time for the two sides to do so. And one would think that Goedert and the team aren’t so far apart that they can’t possibly bridge the gap. Otherwise, why agree to the delays?

With Goedert’s situation up in the air, the Eagles currently have just Grant Calcaterra, Johnny Mundt, Cameron Latu, E.J. Jenkins, and Jaheim Bell under contract for the 2026 season. The team clearly needs a starting-caliber option and Goedert could be that for them. Meanwhile, the options for Goedert to sign elsewhere don’t seem so plentiful.

And so it seems like it’s in the best interest of both sides to get a deal done. But we’ll see what happens.

All the while, there’s thought that the delay with Goedert could be connected to the Eagles still figuring out the A.J. Brown situation. From Dianna Russini’s reporting on Friday:
