It’s another big game for the San Jose Sharks, who will face another of the top teams in the NHL tonight. The Vegas Golden Knights come into town this evening for the second night of back-to-back games. The Sharks are going to have to have short memories after an exhilarating 5-4 overtime win over the Dallas Stars yesterday. The good news for the Sharks is that Vegas played yesterday as well and…

Quick bites: Golden Knights flash their talent to beat the Sharks

24 hours after coming off an emotional comeback win against the Dallas Stars, the Sharks were back in front of the SAP center crowd to take on the Pacific Division leading Vegas Golden Knights. The visiting team included a Tomas Hertl return to the tank and a Knights team the Sharks are chasing down for the Division lead. Michael Misa slots in at 3C after not playing since November due to injury…

Sharks at Capitals game 46: Lines, game thread and how to watch

The San Jose Sharks are on the road and hoping to shake off those demons from another failed attempt to beat the Vegas Golden Knights. San Jose can prove that it has what it takes to compete in the playoffs by taking on another playoff contender today, the Washington Capitals. The last time these two teams met, the Sharks didn’t fare well. The Capitals beat up on the Sharks, dominating San Jose 7…

Sharks at Red Wings game 47: Lines, game thread and how to watch

The San Jose Sharks continue this crazy road trip with a hop, skip and a jump to Detroit. The Sharks visit the Detroit Red Wings today for the second half of back-to-back games. Unfortunately for the Sharks, the Red Wings are well rested and angry. Detroit hasn’t played since Tuesday, when the team was shutout by the Boston Bruins 3-0 and outshot 41-24. Detroit is doing well in the last ten…

Quick Bites: Sharks have capital in Washington

The San Jose Sharks started off the team’s East Coast swing with a tilt against Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals, the rematch coming about a month after a rough outing for the Sharks at SAP Center. In what could possibly have been San Jose’s last game against the Great 8, San Jose narrowly escaped with a 3-2 victory to start the trip off on the right foot. This game started off as a…

Quick bites: Red Wings double up Sharks

The San Jose Sharks looked good in the first period in Detroit, with the return of Will Smith seemingly giving the team a boost. But maintaining that pace through a 60-minute game against the Detroit Red Wings, another team in a playoff position in the NHL’s Eastern Conference, was not to be. Ultimately, the Red Wings beat the Sharks 4-2 in a game that was filled with miscues and missteps that…

Sharks need a right-shot defenseman who fits the timeline, but who?

San Jose Sharks General Manager Mike Grier is looking to make a deal at the trade deadline and he wants to find someone who will fit into the timeline of the team. While not specifically said, it means someone young and developing who will, ideally, go all the way with this team. It’s no secret that the Sharks’ biggest need is a defenseman who plays on the right-side, but there are a lot of…

Sharks at Panthers game 48: Lines, game thread and how to watch

San Jose Sharks fans are waiting to see what happens as General Manager Mike Grier makes moves from the front office. Earlier today, the team added Kiefer Sherwood in a trade with Vancouver, a move that will have a significant impact on the forward grouping, though we’re not sure how just yet. It’s just the latest move. Yesterday, San Jose Hockey Now’s Sheng Peng was the first to report that…

Quick bites: Sharks go to war with the Panthers

The San Jose Sharks have matched up exactly twice with the Florida Panthers this season and twice the team has skated away with wins. Tonight, the Sharks defeated the Panthers 4-1 in a penalty filled fest that included a combined for 38 penalty minutes, including the unicorn of them all, the rare goalie fight. Things started out mundane enough, with some fairly good hockey back and forth…

Sharks at Lightning game 49: Lines, game thread and how to watch

The San Jose Sharks need to get back to business today and not spend too much time thinking about everything that happened in Sunrise last night. The Sharks have a tough matchup this afternoon against the Tampa Bay Lightning, a team that has been tearing through the league as of late. The Lightning are 9-0-1 in the team’s last ten games and are sitting atop the Atlantic Division as of this…

Sharks trade for Kiefer Sherwood

In a move many San Jose Sharks fans have been expecting for weeks now, General Manager Mike Grier has added Kiefer Sherwood to the team. This morning, Grier announced that he traded the team’s 2026 and 2027 second-round picks and defenseman Cole Clayton to the Vancouver Canucks for the 30-year-old forward. Clayton is a 25-year-old defenseman who had five points in 33 games for the San Jose…

Rangers at Sharks game 50: Lines, game thread and how to watch

The San Jose Sharks and the New York Rangers have been linked together a lot in headlines over the past few weeks, mostly when it comes to trade rumors. There are rumors that the Sharks could be secret suitors for Artemi Panarin, the 34-year-old winger who’s on an expiring contract. There are also rumors that the Sharks could be in the market for a young defenseman, perhaps Braden Schneider…

Quick bites: Sharks hold off Rangers

The San Jose Sharks didn’t bring the team’s best game to this one, but the team did what it needed to do to win in the end. The Sharks beat the visiting New York Rangers by a final score of 3-1, to move into second place in the Western Conference wild card race. These regulation wins are important, since all the teams in the wild card race are so closely bunched together.

Third-Period Surge Lifts San Jose Past Bakersfield 5-3

San Jose overcame an early deficit to defeat the Bakersfield Condors 5-3 on Saturday night at Tech CU Arena. The Barracuda trailed for much of the first two periods but came alive in the third, scoring three unanswered goals to take the lead and secure the victory. The win was an important step in a tight division race and gave the team momentum as they head into a week of home games.

Lot of movement happening with the Sharks lately. The Sherwood trade is interesting - giving up two second-rounders plus Clayton feels like a decent price for a 30-year-old, but Grier clearly sees him as a piece that fits what they're building. At this point in the season with the wild card race being so tight, adding a proven forward makes sense.

That win against the Rangers was solid. Not pretty, but 3-1 gets the job done and those regulation wins matter so much right now when you're looking at tiebreakers. Moving into second in the wild card is no small thing.

Also worth mentioning the Panarin rumors - that would be a huge splash if the Sharks actually pursued him. Expiring contract at 34 is risky, but the talent is obviously there. Curious to see if anything develops on that front or if it's just typical deadline noise.

Nice to see the Barracuda pulling out that comeback against Bakersfield too. Third period surges like that show some good character from the young guys in the pipeline.

Anyone think more moves are coming before the deadline?

Sharks at Canucks game 51: Lines, game thread and how to watch

The San Jose Sharks take a trip to Canada today and the first stop on the team’s road trip before the Olympic break is Vancouver and a date with the Canucks. One of the big stories out of Vancouver this morning is the news that goaltender Thatcher Demko will not return to play for the Canucks this season. Demko will have season-ending hip surgery. There’s no real reason to put it off…

Quick bites: Sharks make quick work of Canucks

In a season of disappointments for Vancouver Canucks fans, add last night’s game to the list. Things started out so promising, with the home team getting on the board 1:15 into the game. It looked like the team might give the home fans something to cheer about in a lost season. (Sorry Vancouver, Sharks fans can relate.) Instead, the San Jose Sharks, a few years ahead in the rebuild and fueled by…

Sharks at Oilers game 52: Lines, game thread and how to watch

The San Jose Sharks are in Alberta today for the first of two matchups against the Canadian teams there. The Sharks play the first of this season’s games against the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers are 27-19-8 this season, but only 5-3-2 in the team’s last 10 games. Still, it’s good enough for second in the Pacific Division, just one point back from the Vegas Golden Knights, who sit in first.
