Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Miami Dolphins Live Thread, Discussion & Game Information

gettyimages-2168133483.jpg

Our Miami Dolphins come into this week’s game with nothing to play for other than their jobs and to be spoilers. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers still have plenty to play for with a divisional title on the line. Tampa has lost its last three games, including last week’s game to its divisional leader, the Carolina Panthers, 23-20. The Bucs will need to win out against our Dolphins today and the Panthers next week to keep their hopes alive of winning their division, the NFC South, which will likely be their only route into the playoffs.

Another storyline to follow for our Dolphins today is the continued progress of starting rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers, who took over last week after the benching of Tua Tagovailoa. The Phins will also continue to look at other young talent on the roster. The team is adding wide receiver Theo Wease, Jr., along with other players being elevated from the practice squad, including linebacker Derrick McLendon and offensive lineman Josh Priebe.

Please use this thread to follow this evening’s game between the Buccaneers and our very own Dolphins. Young guys crucial in Dolphins win over Buccaneers – The Splash Zone 12/29/25

new_splash_zone.jpg

The Miami Dolphins pulled off the upset yesterday as they took down the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a team fighting for a playoff spot. Rookie QB Quinn Ewers not only got his first win as a starter but threw his first touchdown to WR Theo Wease, who also recorded his first TD catch on the same play. Ewers had a great first half but was quiet with the lead in the second half as the team opted to run the ball. On defense, rookie CB Jason Marshall Jr. had his first interception and made some great plays through out the game. We can’t forget special teams either as another rookie stepped up in DL Zeke Biggers who blocked a field goal attempt. This is a win to feel good about for the young guns on the squad.

You can check out that story here, and the rest of the day’s round-up below.

Miami Dolphins’ Most Valuable Player | Week Seventeen | First class

gettyimages-2245010947.jpg

The Miami Dolphins pulled off the upset in Week 17 when they defeated the visiting Tampa Bay Buccaneers by a score of 20-17. The game featured a lot of firsts for young Dolphins players.

Quinn Ewers threw his first touchdown pass — while on the same play, Theo Wease Jr. had his first touchdown reception. Andrew Meyer saw his first action as a professional — filling in at center for the injured Aaron Brewer. Jason Marshall Jr. intercepted his first pass as a member of the Dolphins — and his first since his second season at the University of Florida in 2022. Zeek Biggers blocked his first field goal since being drafted by the Dolphins in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft, but the big defensive tackle had four such blocks in college at Georgia Tech.

While many youngsters earned their stripes on Sunday, it was one veteran who took home my Most Valuable ‘Phin (MVP) award for the first time this season.

Miami Dolphins Week Sixteen MVP – EDGE Bradley Chubb

Bradley Chubb took a massive pay cut ahead of the 2025 season in order to stay with the Dolphins after missing the entirety of the 2024 season following a torn ACL in December of 2023. While engineering the pay cut, Miami loaded Chubb’s contract with incentives in order to gain back some of the money he was giving up.

Chubb has met many of the incentives in his revised contract — with one caveat.

According to Spotrac.com, if the 29-year-old is to earn the incentives in his contract, the pay bump is contingent on the Dolphins defense finishing in the top 20 NFL defenses in points allowed per game. Currently, Miami is 21st in that category, with a date with the New England Patriots and their high powered offense scheduled for Sunday afternoon.

Regardless, his performance against Tampa Bay helped sink the Buccaneers as Chubb finished the game with three tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble that was recovered by his teammate Quinton Bell.

Phinsider Question/Discussion Of The Day: Miami Dolphins @ NE Patriots Game Day Predictions

imagn-27083951.jpg

That didn’t go like any of us thought it would, and for once, that’s a good thing. I doubt many of us saw our Miami Dolphins, with the rookie behind center, defeating a team that was coming to town, fighting for their playoff spot, and yet here we are. I have now mentally prepared myself for the offseason’s onslaught of fans fighting over a laundry list of things.

Who will be the general manager? Who will be the head coach? And most importantly, who will be the Miami Dolphins’ starting quarterback in the future? I can already envision the camps forming online. There will still be those rooting for Tua to return with a resurgence. There will now also be a Quinn Ewers camp. Then there’s going to be a camp for any big-name coming out of the draft, along with anyone who becomes a free agent or is put up for trade in someone else’s fire sale. The good part of this for me is that I should have plenty to ask about in the offseason. Anyway, onward to the next game.

So with that in mind, we have our usual game predictions post of the week:

What are your predictions for the upcoming game between your Miami Dolphins and the New England Patriots? Final score? MVP of the game? Other bold predictions?

Unhappy Anniversary: Dolphins last playoff victory came 25 years ago today

gettyimages-51583113.jpg

December 30th, 2000. I remember that day well.

The Miami Dolphins hosted the Indianapolis Colts in a Wild Card matchup in the NFL Playoffs. Quarterback Jay Fiedler passed for just 185 yards — still only 9 yards behind a young Peyton Manning’s 194 yards passing. Wide receiver O.J. McDuffie led Miami with 4 receptions for 57 yards. However, on offense, it was the Lamar Smith show. Smith, the former third round selection of the Seattle Seahawks in the 1994 NFL Draft, had just come off of his first 1,000 yard rushing season, totaling 1,193 yards on 309 carries during his debut season with the Dolphins. In that playoff contest against the Colts, Smith notched a whopping 40 carries for 209 rushing yards and two touchdowns — the second of which gave Miami the glorious game-winning score in overtime.

And just like that, as the team finished celebrating, and the fans filtered out of Pro Player Stadium — as the field lights were switched off one-by-one — so too would dim the sparkle in the eyes of Miami fans, as unbeknownst to them, the Dolphins would begin the fruitless and arduous journey of 25 years (and counting) without tasting the sweet nectar of playoff victory once more.

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the last time the Miami Dolphins were victorious in the NFL postseason. During that stretch of time, every other NFL franchise has claimed at least one win in the playoffs, with the Detroit Lions breaking their own winless drought in 2023.

Since the 2000 season, the Dolphins have made it to the playoffs only five times, losing each game. The Dolphins’ latest playoff failure came in frigid Kansas City following the 2023 season, when in the coldest game in franchise history, the team fell to the Chiefs by a score of 26-7.

A lot can change in a quarter-century. Here is a brief list of some monumental events that have occurred in society since the last time the Dolphins won a playoff game:

  • September 11, 2001 – 9/11 Attacks
  • 2004 – Launch of Facebook
  • 2007 – Introduction of the iPhone
  • 2008 – Global Financial Crisis
  • 2009 – Death of Michael Jackson
  • 2012 – Curiosity Rover lands on Mars
  • 2016 – Cleveland Cavaliers come back from 3-1 deficit to Win the NBA Finals
  • 2016 & 2024 – Donald Trump elected President… twice
  • 2020 – COVID-19 declared a global pandemic
  • 2023 & 2024 – Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour becomes highest grossing concert tour of all time

Unfortunately for Dolphins fans, the team will not be making the postseason this season, so it will be (at least) another long year before Miami can once again claim victory in the playoffs. Will the squad have what it takes to defy the odds and end the dubious distinction of being the NFL team with the longest playoff win drought in 2026? We will all have to wait and see, but as we ponder all that has gone wrong for the Dolphins in the last 25 seasons, it’s fair to wonder when things will start going right for our beloved South Florida franchise.

Happy anniversary, Dolfans — and remember, “It can’t rain all the time.

Your Miami Dolphins @ NE Patriots Game Predictions

imagn-27083979.jpg

Just a heads up, I will be on the road for the next 10 days or so. I am not sure that anything will get posted but I will be back asap and will try and post from the road when I can. Anyway, below are some of your answers to our weekly question pre-game.

What are your predictions for the upcoming game between your Miami Dolphins and the New England Patriots? Final score? MVP of the game? Other bold predictions?

Below is our meager selection of comments and thoughts on the PQOTD-

Alpha6

What are your predictions for the upcoming game between your Miami Dolphins and the New England Patriots?

Alpha6
gives us the usual comprehensive breakdown.

Ewers: 299yds, 2 TDs 0 interceptions.

Team scores 2 FGs in the 3rd QTR.

Achane: 140yds, 1 TD.

Final score?

Dolphins 27, Patriots 24

MVP of the game?

Devon Achane or…

Rasul Douglas

Other bold predictions?

Defense: keeps run game at 67yds.

Keeps air game at 160yds.

2 interceptions, 2 sacks.

USMCFinzFreak has Miami getting handed their a**es again.

I believe Vrabel has a disdain for the Dolphins, both as a player and now as a coach. He will do anything to stab them in the heart and curb-stomp them when he has a chance.

Dolphins 13

Patriots 34

Jptapt has a close game that can be anybodies game.

We will score in the 3rd quarter, and either win or lose by 3, not sure which. It will be a close game.

SlayerNation1 says NE will double up the Phins.

NE 34 MIA 17

28-3 at halftime, NE starts benching starters in the

second half.

Ross can’t help Himself and announces Mike is coming back in the locker room. The Front Office doesn’t have collective the sense to look at the opponents in 2026.

You would think His business sense would tell Him to let the situation “breathe” before making a decision/announcement – smfh.

Mike’s 4th season ends at 7-10 and is viewed as a success?

Get a Bridge QB and a Bridge HC if necessary for 2026. The worst option is Mike returns to cobble together another 7 win season which will knock them out of the 2027 QB Draft.

PA phinphan embraced some sarcasm.

The Dolphins forget who they are and that they don’t win in the cold. They destroy any hopes NE had of gaining the number one seed in the AFC by flushing the PayToilets 20-6.

MiamiItaliano has the secondary disappointing us.

I’m being optimistic and predicting Ewers puts up another 2 TD, 0 INT performance with over 220 passing yards. But, the Patriots find a way to expose the Dolphins secondary. Maybe some of the Dolphins defense fights for their job, keeping the game closer than you think.

Dolphins 17

Patriots 24

Molly Polly II is ready to see Mike shown the door.

Unless I’m mistaken, Broncos will beat Chargers, Jags will beat Titans, so Patriots have plenty to play for to keep 2nd seed. The score might be close cuz Vrabel, eventually, pulls his starters. Approx 27 degree temps…hmmmmm.

Prediction: Pats win 33-20.

MVP: NonMagic Mike; hopefully he succeeds ending his tenure as HC. Don’t fail me now NMM!

AquaAndOrange thinks Mike is safe thought at least next season.

I think that if the New England game is the deciding factor of whether McD stays or not, he would have been fired already. We all know the outcome. They are playing for the number one seed in the AFC playoffs. McD still has the players grier picked. Ross wants to see how McD does without grier and tua next year. This game is merely another preseason practice game. We’ve been out of the playoffs since about week 6. I know a lot of people don’t like McD, but I don’t think this game is the litmus test. I may be wrong though.

Alright thats our selection of comments for this evening. Ill see you all soon! Off to hopefully watch my Canes pull this one out.

Miami Dolphins OLB Bradley Chubb Named AFC Defensive Player of the Week

gettyimages-2254152048.jpg

The Miami Dolphins shocked the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, defeating the NFC South contenders 20-17 in a game that was a bit more lopsided than the final score suggests. Many players stepped up in Miami’s week 17 win, but the player who many would argue had the most significant impact was Dolphins’ pass-rusher, Bradley Chubb.

On Sunday, vs the Buccaneers, Chubb finished with three total tackles, two tackles for loss, two sacks, and one forced fumble. It was a much-needed performance for a team looking to play spoiler against their in-state rivals. For Chubb, however, his massive performance earned him a couple of incentives, AND his second-ever defensive player of the week accolade.

To the moon 👨‍🚀🚀@astronaut is your Week 17 AFC Defensive Player of the Week! pic.twitter.com/tZM6JsVRev

— Miami Dolphins (@MiamiDolphins) December 31, 2025

The 29-year-old pass-rusher was traded to Miami in 2022 in exchange for running back Chase Edmunds, a 2024 fourth-round pick, and, of course, a 2023 first-round pick. The first-round pick (29th overall) was acquired by Miami in a trade with the San Francisco 49ers and was later used as part of the Sean Payton trade.

Since arriving in Miami, Chubb has been a leader and team captain on and off the field, starting all 16 games for the Dolphins in 2025. He currently leads the team with 8.5 sacks and has combined for 46 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery this season.

This is the fourth defensive player of the week award for the Dolphins’ defense this season.

Linebacker Jordyn Brooks won the award back in week 8 against the Atlanta Falcons and Week 11 in Madrid vs. the Washington Commanders. Cornerback Rasul Douglass won the award in Week 14 after a shutdown performance vs. the New York Jets.

Does Miami’s defense have one more start-studded performance ready for Drake Maye and the New England Patriots?

You’ll have to tune in on Sunday afternoon to find out!

What are your thoughts on Bradley Chubb’s play this season? Are you surprised that this is only his second Defensive Player of the Week award in his career? Do you think he’ll be on the roster in 2026 and beyond? Let us know in the comments section below!

Dolphins hire Troy Aikman for GM search

gettyimages-2185611101.jpg

The Miami Dolphins are hiring Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman to serve as a consultant in their search for a new general manager. The Dolphins and former GM Chris Grier parted ways during the 2025 season, with Champ Kelly named as the interim for the remainder of the year. Now, with just Week 18 left to play this weekend, Miami is starting to move forward with their search for the next person to lead their front office.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the hire. Schefter added Aikman is not a permanent addition to the Dolphins’ organization, but that he will be a “advisor” throughout the GM search.

Troy Aikman’s experience

Aikman is currently an ESPN analyst and host of Monday Night Football. He played 12 years in the NFL, all with the Dallas Cowboys. He threw for 32,942 yards with 165 touchdowns and 141 interceptions in his career; he was selected to the Pro Bowl six times. He was the first overall pick in the 1989 NFL Draft out of UCLA. He was the NFL Man of the Year in 1997 and won three Super Bowls with the Cowboys.

Though he has lived his whole life in and around football, this would be Aikman’s first front office job in the NFL. He is part-owner of the San Diego Padres in Major League Baseball, but does not influence team operations. It’s currently unclear what role Aikman will play with the Dolphins, but owner Stephen Ross is seemingly pulling out all the stops.

Aikman’s role in GM search

Aikman is expected to be involved in the interview process for Miami’s next GM and will provide owner Stephen Ross with a new perspective from outside the organization. He is not expected to be in consideration for the job.

The Dolphins are expected to interview several candidates this offseason, and although league executives consider the job to be a prestigious one, it’s been more than a decade since the Dolphins last hired a general manager from outside the organization. There are no concrete names yet, but popular candidates from around the league include Alec Halaby of the Philadelphia Eagles and John McKay of the Los Angeles Rams.

Update: Aikman’s addition does not signal any decision on Mike McDaniel’s job

According to the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson, Aikman is “NOT involved in any decision on [head coach Mike] McDaniel.” Aikman has praised and criticized McDaniel in the past, notably on Monday Night Football in Week 15, when the Dolphins trailed the Pittsburgh Steelers late but showed no sense of urgency on offense. Jackson adds, “That’s a Ross call. Ross still has faith in Mike, so nobody would be surprised if McDaniel returns. BUT there’s no indication there has been a final decision and thus nobody in media is going out on any limbs saying anything definitive because life is fluid and unpredictable.”

Dolphins poach quarterback ahead of Week 18 vs Patriots

gettyimages-2232204723.jpg

The Miami Dolphins made a roster move to open 2026, signing quarterback Cam Miller, according to his agent. Miller had been on the Las Vegas Raiders’ practice squad, but will now move to the Dolphins’ 53-man roster.

No corresponding move has been announced, creating the space for Miller. Miami will likely place an injured player who will not be available for Sunday’s Week 18 game against the New England Patriots on injured reserve. The Dolphins’ 2025 season ends against New England after the team failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Raiders selected Miller in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft out of North Dakota State. He threw for 3,251 yards and 33 touchdowns last season and led North Dakota State to the second of two FCS National Championships during his five years with the team.

He spent the entire 2025 season on Las Vegas’ practice squad before joining Miami.

Miller joins starting quarterback Quinn Ewers and backups Zach Wilson and Tua Tagovailoa on the Dolphins’ depth chart. Ewers took over as the starter, replacing Tagovailoa, in Week 16.

The Dolphins are not expected to have Miller active for Sunday’s game, but the move does provide them an opportunity to bring in another young quarterback, likely keeping him signed through the offseason to continue to evaluate him ahead of training camp.

To get a closer look at the Patriots, who beat Miami back in Week 2, I turned to our friends and rivals over at Pats Pulpit to talk about the turnaround in New England, the legal issues that exploded this week, a surprisingly low number of Pro Bowl selections, and more. Taylor Kyles, as always, was kind enough to answer my Patriots questions.

You can check out the Dolphins side of our conversation over on Pats Pulpit.

How do you think the Patriots balance the chance to get the top seed in the AFC versus protecting players for a potential playoff game next week? I know Mike Vrabel has said the starters will play, but will we see them pulled if the Denver Broncos jump out to a big lead against the Los Angeles Chargers, who are expected to rest their starters?

gettyimages-2247835569.jpg

Last week in New York, the Patriots benched as many starters as possible after seizing a sizable lead midway through the third quarter. I think their dream scenario would be a repeat of that performance, but starters will play as long as it takes to win.

Mike Vrabel is big on playing to an identity, and rolling over before the game is in hand one week before the playoffs would be very off-brand. Players battling injury may be on a snap count, but as Vrabel told reporters this week, everyone who’s healthy will play.

How much of a distraction has the Stefon Diggs and Christian Barmore legal issues been this week?

gettyimages-2253146119.jpg

It’s come up with just about every player and coach interviewed this week, and all have insisted they are ignoring outside “noise” and focusing on the Dolphins. I think that’s impossible to do fully given the circumstances, but this team has shown impressive mental toughness throughout the season.

Stefon Diggs acknowledged the situation has had an effect on him, but he’s known for his focus on the field. I’d be mildly surprised if Diggs or Christian Barmore’s play is significantly impacted.

I was surprised that, as much of a great story the Patriots have been this year and being tied for the top spot in the AFC playoff picture, they only landed two Pro Bowl selections in quarterback Drake Maye and cornerback Christian Gonzalez. Who was snubbed? Is there a player who has flown under the radar but will have a big impact on this game or in the playoffs?

gettyimages-2253268206.jpg

Hunter Henry was probably the most deserving player who wasn’t voted in. Many would be surprised to learn he’s never earned a Pro Bowl nod, and this was the tight-end’s best season. He has excellent rapport with Drake Maye, whose aggressiveness and accuracy have added a downfield element to the 31-year-old’s game. Henry is also a versatile piece of Josh McDaniel’s offense, spending time in-line, in the slot, and even at flanker in some run schemes.

Marcus Jones has been an elite punt returner since entering the league in 2022, and he had a career-year that included two touchdowns. Jones has also emerged as one of the league’s best slot cornerbacks, providing physical run defense, sticky coverage, and excellent ball skills. I wouldn’t say he was snubbed because Chimere Dike was more than deserving, but Jones had a Pro Bowl-caliber season as a returner. The games must also expand to include slot corners, as it’s nearly impossible for the role to earn accolades given the perception of the position.

What has been the biggest surprise of the year for the Patriots? The biggest disappointment?

Drake Maye putting up a Pro Bowl season has to take the cake for biggest surprise. I thought the Patriots could win 13 games this season, in large part because of the pairing of Maye and McDaniels, but no one could’ve seen this coming. He’s shown rapid improvement going all the way back to the summer, maturing as a decision-maker, pocket manager, and leader. Poor ball security and inaccuracy have held him back at times, but those are typically outshined by stretches of virtually perfect play. He quickly deciphers disguises and blitzes, and he’s virtually unphased by pressure. As long as New England continues to build around him, I truly don’t think there’s a ceiling to what Maye can become as he continues to learn and grow.

gettyimages-2249994898.jpg

One nice thing about Vrabel’s staff is that few players have truly disappointed, but Barmore’s play has taken a step back from his dominant 2023 season. Blood clots kept Barmore out for most of last season, which must be considered when assessing his 2025 performance. That said, he isn’t the same fluid athlete he was at his past peak. Barmore’s been a liability against the run at times, and he rarely reaches the passer despite racking up hurries. If I were New England, I’d be searching for a trade partner who’d be willing to take on Barmore’s contract this offseason.

In 2024, the Patriots were 4-13. In 2025, they are 13-3 heading into this week. Adding Mike Vrabel and having Drake Maye develop into an MVP candidate have made an enormous impact, but we have all seen the one-year jump with a new head coach, followed by regression in year two. I know you are enjoying this year, but what have you seen that leads you to believe this is a return to New England fighting for the top spot in the AFC East each year, rather than a one-year spike?

gettyimages-2246634976.jpg

The trio of Vrabel, Maye, and McDaniels is a championship-caliber foundation that could be together for the next two decades. Vrabel is a proven franchise leader and Coach of the Year winner. McDaniels has invaluable experience working with arguably the greatest head coach and quarterback of all time on top of his own impressive resume as a coordinator. I’ve already gushed about Maye, but he truly is the real deal.

This offseason, EVP of Player Personnel Eliot Wolf and his front office built on that foundation with outstanding free agent and draft classes. Milton Williams has been a difference-maker when healthy, Robert Spillane is the heart of the defense, and re-signing Jaylinn Hawkins has emerged as a play-maker under this new regime. New England has also gotten half a dozen starters out of their rookie class, which has played a large part in elevating a 4-12 team to a legit contender. If they can sustain anything near that hit rate, the Patriots should go back to becoming one of the premier threats in the AFC for years to come.

The Good, Bad & Ugly from the Miami Dolphins Week 18 loss to the New England Patriots

gettyimages-2254670604.jpg

The Miami Dolphins ended their season the same way they started it — with a lopsided loss to their opponents. In Week One, the Indianapolis Colts took Miami to the woodshed — in Week 18, it was Drake Maye, Rhamondre Stevenson, TreVeyon Henderson and the New England Patriots who spanked Mike McDaniel’s crew by a score of 38-10.

At the time of this writing on Sunday night, McDaniel still has his job as the team’s head coach, but that could change if owner Stephen Ross decides to go in a different direction once he receives input from his (presumably) new general manager who has yet to be hired.

Personally, I’m done with the wunderkind experiment. The Dolphins need an adult at the head coaching position, and I don’t view McDaniel as that kind of guy. Thanks for 2022 and 2023, Mike, but the league adapted to your fighting style and you never developed a counterpunch.

With that being said, for the first time in 2026, but for the last time during the 2025 NFL season, let’s take a look back at the good, bad and ugly from the Miami Dolphins’ final regular season loss.

GOOD

It’s over

They can’t hurt you anymore. Well, not for a few months, anyway.

The Dolphins’ season is over — and it ended with a whimper, losing to their division rivals, the New England Patriots, by a score of 38-10.

The good news? You’re finally free. You don’t have to sit on your couch or in your recliner on Sundays (or Thursdays, Mondays, whatever) and grit your teeth while clenching your fists in balls of rage. Let it go. Take a deep breath. Go for a walk. Play some pickleball or some ping-pong. Maybe you can just take a nice, little nap.

You did your time, and you’ve earned your freedom. Enjoy.

BAD

Dolphins defense implodes against Patriots

The New England Patriots demolished the Dolphins on Sunday — gaining 457 total yards, including 243 yards on the ground. Rhamondre Stevenson led the way with 131 yards on 7 carries (18.7 yards per carry) and two touchdowns. Rookie back TreVeyon Henderson tallied 53 yards on 13 carries (4.1 yards per carry) and two scores of his own. Quarterback Drake Maye also had five scrambles for 41 yards.

While a loss is a loss, this embarrassing one hurts one player’s pocketbook as Bradley Chubb needed the Dolphins to allow just 14 points in order to trigger over $5 million in incentive bonuses — something that obviously did not happen. Sunday’s woeful performance was a costly one for Chubb — and shameful one for everyone else.

UGLY

Dolphins remain scoreless in third quarter for 10th straight game

While giving up 14 points to the Patriots in the third quarter on Sunday, Miami’s offense went scoreless once again — marking the 10th straight game that the Dolphins have scored exactly ZERO points in the quarter immediately following halftime. You read that right… Miami has not scored a third quarter point since Tua Tagovailoa hit Jaylen Waddle for a 43-yard touchdown in the third quarter of the Dolphins’ victory over the Atlanta Falcons on October 26th.

As I mentioned last week, that stat is extremely damning to Mike McDaniel’s case to remain head coach of the Dolphins moving forward. He is incapable of making halftime adjustments and teams have taken advantage of that glaring fault time and time again this season.

___

The Dolphins predictably were destroyed against the Patriots in New England on Sunday — finishing their season with a 7-10 record (the worst win-loss record in Mike McDaniel’s four years as head coach). Mike McDaniel may have been coaching for his job, and if owner Stephen Ross was watching closely, he has to know that keeping McDaniel in charge of the team can only be a decision you make if your goal is to lose in 2026 in order to acquire a high draft pick in 2027. Do you think McDaniel has earned himself one more year in South Florida? Let me know in the comments below or on Twitter at @MBrave13. Fins up.

LOL WHAT A DUMPSTER FIRE OF A SEASON FOR YOU GUYS 🔥🔥🔥

Look, I'm not gonna sugarcoat it - watching the Phins get absolutely DEMOLISHED 38-10 by the Pats in the finale was... *chef's kiss*... beautiful. 243 rushing yards allowed?? Stevenson averaging 18.7 yards per carry?? That's not even a defense, that's a suggestion!

And this 10 straight games without a third quarter point stat is INSANE. How does a professional football team with all those offensive weapons go TEN GAMES without scoring after halftime adjustments? McDaniel is supposed to be this offensive genius but apparently he forgets how to coach after eating his halftime orange slices.

Here's the thing though - and I say this as a division rival who thoroughly enjoys your suffering - you guys NEED to clean house. Tua getting benched for a 7th rounder, Achane being the only bright spot, McDaniel looking completely lost... this ain't it.

Meanwhile Drake Maye is looking like the real deal up in New England and the Pats went from 4-13 to 13-3 in ONE YEAR. That's gotta sting watching your division rival figure it out while you're stuck in mediocrity purgatory.

7-10 is somehow worse than being actually terrible because at least then you get a good draft pick. Enjoy the offseason! 😂

Miami Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel expected to return for 2026 NFL Season

gettyimages-2253828200.jpg

For weeks, fans and analysts speculated whether or not the Miami Dolphins would bring back head coach Mike McDaniel after firing general manager Chris Grier earlier in the year. Some reports believed it was a coin flip, while others thought he was coming back for another year based on intel.

No one truly knew, but after hearing of Miami’s interest in six candidates for the vacant GM position, something had to break on McDaniel’s future sooner or later.

Today, during his end-of-the-season press conference, Miami’s HC answered the burning questions about his future and a whole lot more.

First, McDaniel confirmed that he would remain with the team for the 2026 season and play a significant part in Miami’s search for a new general manager. (Note: I have added the word expected to the title because, despite an interview where he very clearly makes it known he’s going to be a part of the process to hire the next GM, NO comment has been made by owner Stephen Ross.)

“My understanding is I’m the coach of the Miami Dolphins until told otherwise… the job itself is enough to worry about, so worrying about whether it’s yours, that’s not part of the formula. I think all of us in the Miami Dolphins organization, especially with ownership, are not happy with the results. They’re not up to the standard. So my sole focus each hour you can reach me in the foreseeable mini hours is correcting and improving something that’s not good enough right now.”

McDaniel, 42, has a career 35-35 record (2 playoff games) since joining Miami in 2022. He says the Dolphins will bring in the ‘best candidate for the job’, saying he could ‘care less whether or not they worked in the same building.“

Still, there are three candidates from San Francisco who have familiarity with Miami’s head coach. And if there’s one thing many of us expected before this entire process kicked off, it is that Stephen Ross would bring in a GM who would play nice with McDaniel. Is that what’s taking place now?

Hard to say, but McDaniel does feel obligated to make this team better, leaving no stone unturned this offseason in trying to improve this once storied franchise.

https://bsky.app/profile/takeittothehoutz.bsky.social/post/3mbpeo5hzwc2o

“I think this organization is depending on me to take a hard look at everything… I have to take a hard, consistent look at what’s not good enough because our record of 7-10 isn’t good enough. Missing the playoffs, not good enough.”

Part of that will be finding a new quarterback.

That’s not to say the relationship with Tagovailoa can’t be repaired or that Quinn Ewers can’t be the guy. But McDaniel seems to understand the assignment and plans to do everything he can this offseason to improve not only the QB1 position — but every position on the roster.

“I would not close the door on that by any stretch… I think there are a couple of options… but ultimately, we need to create the most competitive environment possible, and that means looking at all avenues & every position.”

Time will tell whether or not McDaniel’s words hold merit, but for now, he is the coach of the Miami Dolphins and the one leading this franchise’s search for the next general manager. Hopefully, things will be different, but for now, it feels like #TheSameOldDolphins.

What are your thoughts on the Miami Dolphins retaining head coach Mike McDaniel? Are you happy he will have a significant say in the next general manager? What changes would you like to see made this offseason? Let us know in the comments section below!

Dolphins ownership has “affinity” for John Harbaugh

gettyimages-2254677384.jpg

The Miami Dolphins are in the midst of interviews regarding their vacant general manager position, but could potential head coaching interviews materialize soon?

Just yesterday, current Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel met with the South Florida media and intimated that his job seemed to be safe — however, a new wildcard has emerged in that department, and it’s one with a very familiar name.

On Tuesday, the Baltimore Ravens fired their longtime head coach John Harbaugh after 18 seasons with the organization. During that time, Harbaugh led the franchise to a 180-113 record, with a 13-11 record in the playoffs — including a Super Bowl victory following the 2012 season. He only had three seasons with a losing record during his tenure with the Ravens.

While McDaniel is currently under contract with Miami, a social media post from NFL insider Josina Anderson has induced some raised eyebrows in Dolphins-land.

I'm told that #Dolphins ownership has expressed an affinity for John Harbaugh recently, per league source.

We'll see if that appeal materializes into an opportunity, as the seat is not currently vacant.

Harbaugh will have multiple conversations at his door step. https://t.co/bixgyHSwIc

While the Dolphins may be interested in speaking with John Harbaugh, they are not the only franchise interested in doing so according to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.

In the first 45 minutes after John Harbaugh was fired this afternoon, his agent Bryan Harlan said he received calls from seven NFL teams expressing interest in his client.

While John Harbaugh’s services may be in demand, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has a long history with the Harbaugh family — once interviewing John’s brother Jim while employing Tony Sparano as head coach of Miami. Ross expressed regret over how he handled that situation a decade and a half ago, so one would think that McDaniel would need to be fired before any formal interview with John Harbaugh will take place.

Will John Harbaugh eventually end up coaching on the sidelines in Miami Gardens anytime soon? No one is sure at this point, but there’s one thing everyone can be certain of…

Things just got very interesting for everyone associated with the Miami Dolphins organization.
