After getting ejected in the 5th inning(after throwing to pitches that barely missed Chipper Jones) Friday night during a game against the Braves, Carlos Zambrano cleaned out his locker and said he was leaving the team and retiring.

He was having a bad night...he had just given up back-to-back homeruns (he gave up a total of 5 HR's) so it wouldn't surprise me if he was purposefully trying to hit Chipper, just to get ejected and be out of the game.

It's unclear if Zambrano was serious about retiring, but I think the Cubs will be done with him if he does decide to come back.

Yeah he's crazy. I don't know if he'll retire, but he definitely won't play again this season, and will not play for the Cubs anymore ever.

The Cubs announced today that Zambrano will not return to the Chicago Cubs team this season. They will resume paying him on Sept. 11th, after his suspension ends, but say that he won't be able to return to the team because there would be an "insufficient preparation time" for him to pitch again this year.

I don't know why you would keep paying him while he's not even playing....just release him, for crying out loud....
