Longtime Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood retired today after striking out White Sox player Dayan Viciedo in the eighth inning of today's game. It was reported that Wood would retire today, but not that he would pitch one final outing. I watched a replay, and it was great. Cubs fans started applauding like crazy and Wood shook hands with his teammates and tipped his hat. His son even ran onto the field and gave him a hug before he got to the dug out. Fantastic way to go out for Kid K.
Wood is one of only 3 pitchers in MLB history to have a K/9 IP of 10.0 or higher.

Great career. Probably my favorite Cub of all time. I threw a perfect game with him once on MLB 2K8.

Hall of Fame? I doubt it'll happen, but that would be awesome if it did.

He's a player I always liked for some reason. I'm pretty sure I ended up with a card of him when I first started collecting baseball cards, and then I kind of started following him. I also remember using him sometimes on High Heat Baseball 2004 on the PlayStation 2. He was good. I don't think he's a hall of famer, but he had a pretty good career.

Yeah a great player, who had a great career with the Cubs.
