Wizards Have Reportedly Made A Decision About Khris Middleton’s Future

Orlando Magic v Milwaukee Bucks

Khris Middleton was sent to the Washington Wizards on Wednesday, but many people felt he would continue to travel along the league and find another home soon.

But according to a new report from Josh Robbins, Middleton will stay put, and the team thinks he can be a huge help for their young core.

“The Wizards expect that Middleton, an Olympic gold medalist and a crucial contributor to the Milwaukee Bucks’ 2020-21 NBA title, will become the model example for the young players to emulate,” Robbins wrote, per NBACentral.
The chances of the Wizards moving Khris Middleton are “almost zero,” as they want him to mentor the young players on the team, per @JoshuaBRobbins

If the Wizards want an experienced veteran, it is hard to do much better than Middleton.

He has been in the league for 12 years and has found all kinds of success.

After getting his start with the Detroit Pistons, he soon moved to the Bucks, where he became the team’s second option and helped them win a championship in 2021.

Along the way, he has also racked up three All-Star appearances and has added a lot of stability to the team’s lineup.

However, injuries have slowed Middleton down, and there have been questions about his longevity and future.

When he came to the Wizards, some people thought he’d be used as a trade chip and sent to another location.

But the Wizards want to get the most out of Middleton’s experience and skill.

They think he can play a mentor role to the team’s young players and help get them on track.

Middleton will have his work cut out for him because Washington is currently the worst team in the league with a 9-41 record.

Bucks And Wizards Are Reportedly Discussing Interesting Trade

Milwaukee Bucks v Detroit Pistons - Emirates NBA Cup

The Milwaukee Bucks have climbed to the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference, while the Washington Wizards remain dead last in 15th place.

They both have their own unique needs before the upcoming trade deadline and might help one another out.

According to David Aldridge, per Evan Sidery, the Bucks and Wizards have discussed a potential swap of Khris Middleton and Kyle Kuzma.

To entice the Wizards even more, the Bucks would probably include draft compensation along with Middleton.

“The Bucks certainly appear ready to move on from Middleton,” Sidery wrote.

Milwaukee would also reportedly include draft compensation alongside Middleton.

Middleton is averaging 12.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game this season, shooting 51.2 percent from the field and 40.7 percent from the three-point line.

It’s been another season impacted by injuries for Middleton, which is one of the reasons why the Bucks are prepared to say goodbye to him.

He has been with Milwaukee since 2013 and has been through it all with them.

Middleton is a three-time All-Star and was an important part of the team’s run to the Finals in 2021.

But over the last few years, the Bucks have used less of Middleton and haven’t relied on him as much.

They now see him as a trade asset, someone they can use in a deal to bolster the roster around Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard.

Kuzma has been going through a rough patch this year, averaging a career-low 15.2 points, along with 5.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists.

There were rumors of the Wizards holding on to him longer because they wanted to improve his value on the trade market, but maybe they are also ready to start a new chapter.

Could Middleton’s years of experience help the Wizards?

Will Kuzma get out of his slump in Milwaukee?

This could be an interesting and beneficial trade for both teams.

Bucks Are Showing Interest In Trading For Wizards Veteran

Chicago Bulls v Washington Wizards

After a rough start to the year, the Milwaukee Bucks are now the fifth seed in the East with a 26-21 record.

They are looking to improve their roster for the rest of the season so they might be very busy before the upcoming trade deadline.

While there have been reports of them pursuing Jimmy Butler of the Miami Heat, they are also apparently looking at another star.

Jake Fischer is reporting that the Bucks have “shown interest” in Kyle Kuzma, currently of the Washington Wizards.

“Yet there has been little fresh chatter on Milwaukee’s pursuit of Butler in recent days. Sources with knowledge of the situation have relayed that the Bucks have more recently had conversations about pursuing Washington’s Kyle Kuzma,” Fischer wrote, per NBACentral.

Kuzma has been a mixed bag lately.

After having his best season yet in 2023-25, his productivity has taken a big hit in 2024-25, and he is currently averaging 15.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists a game, shooting 42.2 percent from the field and just 28.6 percent from the three-point line.

That is clearly a career low for three-pointers.

He might be having a tough time right now, but Kuzma could easily bounce back and become a better player again soon, and the Bucks know that.

They also think he could fit in perfectly with their current lineup and would work like a charm alongside Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo.

If the Bucks decide to focus on Kuzma, what does that mean for a Butler deal?

It seems like every potential trade involving Butler is stalling out at the worst time, and Miami’s options are growing limited.

Is there a chance Milwaukee could get Kuzma and keep their hopes of acquiring Butler alive?

We will find out by Thursday afternoon.

Jordan Poole Believes He Was An All-Star This Season

Washington Wizards v Phoenix Suns

Jordan Poole of the Washington Wizards might be putting up some of the best numbers of his career, but that doesn’t mean that he is going to be an All-Star this year.

However, Poole feels that he is deserving of being an All-Star, even though he didn’t make the cut this season.

According to Mark Medina, via NBACentral, Poole opened up about the level he is playing at.

“I definitely think that I’m an All-Star. I play at an All-Star level. A lot of it can be political and situational. But performance wise, I think that I’m an All-Star,” Poole said.
Jordan Poole believes he should make the All-Star Game this season after having a breakout year

Poole is averaging 21.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game this season, shooting 42.4 percent from the field and 40.2 percent from the three-point line.

This is his best season with the Wizards, although the team is still struggling mightily and will miss the playoffs again.

Poole said he thinks that sitting out of the All-Star Game is both “political and situational,” but what does that mean?

The political aspect might be because Poole has upset some people in the past because of his personality and his time with the Golden State Warriors.

As for the situational, it is hard for a player like Poole to really have an impact when he is on such a sub-par team that doesn’t get a lot of attention.

Until he moves to a new team or the Wizards get better, Poole won’t be watched by many people.

He could be posting a strong average, but that isn’t enough to get people to tune into a team that is such a mess.

There have been questions about Poole’s future with the Wizards and speculation about him leaving for another team.

Right now, it looks like he will stay put in DC, and that could continue to hurt his chances of being an All-Star.

Insider Names Team That Could Help Facilitate Jimmy Butler Trade To Suns

Phoenix Suns v Miami Heat

The Miami Heat and Phoenix Suns are reportedly working to create a Jimmy Butler trade that makes both sides happy.

But it’s become clear that other teams might need to get involved in any potential Butler move.

According to Evan Sidery, the Washington Wizards are a “team to monitor as a potential facilitator helping Jimmy Butler land with the Suns.”

“Rebuilding Washington is willing to take on unwanted contracts in exchange for draft capital, plus they have appealing expiring contracts like Malcolm Brogdon at $22.5 million,” Sidery wrote.

— Evan Sidery (@esidery) January 23, 2025

There have been reports stating that three or even four teams could be included in the process that brings Butler to the Suns.

The Wizards aren’t likely to get a big star out of the deal, but they could take on unwanted contracts and get draft capital for them.

That would give them a brighter future and building blocks for the seasons ahead.

What other teams could get involved?

There have been reports saying the Toronto Raptors, Milwaukee Bucks, and others could be brought into this, and it’s obvious that there are a lot of moving pieces and this could be very complicated.

The Wizards have a 6-36 record and are technically the worst team in the NBA.

That means they have only one direction to go: up.

Getting involved in the Butler trade won’t fix all of their problems, but it could put them on the right path.

In a season full of bad news, this could be a silver lining for the Wizards.

Insider Reveals Why Wizards Will Have A Hard Time Trading Kyle Kuzma

Oklahoma City Thunder v Washington Wizards

When the NBA season began, a lot of people assumed the Washington Wizards would trade Kyle Kuzma at some point.

Now, just weeks before the deadline, it feels like that may not happen.

Evan Sidery of Forbes reported that the Wizards will have a “difficult time even receiving one [first-round pick] in a trade.”

“With Kuzma going through a career-worst stretch making $23.5 million, there’s a strong possibility he stays in Washington all season,” Sidery wrote on X.
After holding out for two first-round picks last year for Kyle Kuzma, the Wizards will now have a difficult time even receiving one in a trade.

— Evan Sidery (@esidery) January 21, 2025

Kuzma was scoring career-highs last season, and this year he is not.

He is averaging 14.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game, down from 22.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game last season.

He has fallen into a tough spot, and that is affecting his trade value, right when the Wizards are most keen on shipping him away.

Though they could settle for less than they want, the Wizards will more than likely just hold on to Kuzma, hope he gets better next season and then re-evaluate their choices.

It’s not clear why Kuzma is having a rough time this year, but he isn’t looking like the team leader and No. 1 option he once was.

The Wizards, meanwhile, remain the worst team in the league, so they aren’t in a huge rush to make big trade decisions.

Plus, they will be sellers before the upcoming trade deadline with other players.

They have a few stars who can be shipped away to improve their chances in 2025-26 and beyond.

They wanted Kuzma to be part of their trade agenda this year, and it looks like that isn’t possible, but that doesn’t mean the Wizards won’t make moves in the weeks ahead.

Details Emerge About Wizards’ Asking Price For Jonas Valančiūnas

Washington Wizards v Chicago Bulls

There has been plenty of speculation about Jonas Valančiūnas and his position within the Washington Wizards roster.

Will he remain in DC or move to another team before the upcoming trade deadline?

Now we know what it’ll take to trade for Valančiūnas if the team does decide to part ways with him.

According to Josh Robbins and David Aldridge, via NBACentral, the asking price for Valančiūnas could be a maximum of two second-round draft picks.

They wrote:

“One league source, whose team is not currently involved with the Wizards in discussions about Valančiūnas, believes that two second-rounders will wind up being the maximum Washington can get for him.”

— NBACentral (@TheDunkCentral) January 14, 2025

Valančiūnas is averaging 11.6 points and 8.1 rebounds per game on 55.8 percent from the field during his first year with the Wizards.

Right after he was acquired in the summer, a lot of people assumed he would only be in Washington for a short amount of time.

Because of their track record and place in the standings, fans thought the Wizards would be sellers in the trade market and, sure enough, it sounds like they will be.

That means they could let go of Valančiūnas and a few other stars too.

Two second-round draft picks aren’t cheap but not too wildly expensive, especially for any team that feels Valančiūnas could give them the power they need to win right now.

Multiple teams have been eyeing him, and now they know the asking price, so they may move quickly.

But the Wizards will weigh all their options before they agree to anything.

Because of how poorly they are performing, they don’t have to rush into any deal for Valančiūnas or any of their players.

5 Teams Are Showing Trade Interest In Jonas Valanciunas

Boston Celtics v Washington Wizards

The Washington Wizards are approaching the NBA trade deadline as confident sellers.

Several players on their roster may be shipped away in the weeks ahead, including Jonas Valanciunas.

Evan Sidery is reporting that five teams in the Western Conference have recently shown interest in Valanciunas.

Sidery says that the Los Angeles Lakers, Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns, and Golden State Warriors have all been taking a look at Valanciunas.

Five teams in the Western Conference have recently shown trade interest in Jonas Valanciunas:

Lakers
Nuggets
Rockets
Suns
Warriors

Valanciunas is averaging 11.9 points and 8.0 rebounds in only 19.9 minutes for the Wizards this season. pic.twitter.com/XHfWb8SWES

— Evan Sidery (@esidery) January 1, 2025

The big man is averaging 11.9 points and 8.0 rebounds per game, spending 19.9 minutes on the court for the Wizards.

He came to the team just months ago during the summer, but right away people were already talking about him moving yet again before the deadline.

Many people saw him as a short-term rental for the Wizards.

That’s partly because most analysts expected the team to struggle a lot in 2024–25.

Sure enough, they are in last place in the East.

While they could hold onto all their players and hope for better luck next season, the Wizards can also make some big trades with teams looking to win as soon as possible.

By working with front offices that want immediate success, the Wizards can drive up their asking prices and get more out of any potential deal.

All of the teams listed by Sidery want to make an impact in the playoffs, so they could be willing to give a lot in a Valanciunas trade.

Valanciunas’ name has been attached to several of these teams for weeks, so will any of them be able to finally make the moves necessary to acquire him?

Jordan Poole Has Made Franchise History

Denver Nuggets v Washington Wizards

The Washington Wizards may still be a mess, but Jordan Poole is definitely building a comeback season.

The star player received a lot of lukewarm reviews last year, but he is looking much better in 2024-25, and he’s especially been on a roll lately.

According to ClutchPoints, Poole has been doing incredibly well from the three-point line during his last five games.

It started on December 19, when he scored 27 points on 5-of-10 from downtown.

He followed that up with a 26-point game and a 31-point game, again sinking most of his threes.

On Wednesday evening, Poole scored 30 points and shot 6-of-13 from the three-point line.

Poole is now the first player in Wizards history to have five or more three-pointers in five straight games.

— ClutchPoints (@ClutchPoints) January 2, 2025

For the season, Poole is averaging 21.7 points and 4.9 assists, up from the 17.4 points and 4.4 assists he put up in 2023-24.

Poole is looking much better for his team, although the Wizards are in rough shape.

They have a 6-25 record and sit as the worst team in the Eastern Conference.

Their chances of making the playoffs are basically gone and right now the biggest story about the team is what trades they may commit to.

There is a chance that several of the biggest names on their roster will be gone in a few weeks, but will Poole be one of them?

His trade value has certainly improved because of his recent games, but the Wizards might want to hold onto him as they give away a bunch of other players.

The Wizards might once again see Poole as someone who can be the center of a rebuild.

Then again, the team is doing so poorly that no one would be surprised if they parted ways with him and many others.

Teams Are Reportedly Hesitant About Trading For Kyle Kuzma

Sacramento Kings v Washington Wizards

Kyle Kuzma of the Washington Wizards was one of the most promising trade options in the NBA not too long ago.

But things have changed, and now the Wizards are having a tough time finding a new home for him.

On Monday morning, Evan Sidery reported that the Wizards “have been unable to generate a strong market of interested teams for Kyle Kuzma.”

Sidery wrote:

“Even after Washington lowered their asking price, there is pessimism surrounding Kuzma’s fit on contenders.”

This comes as Kuzma is currently experiencing a career-worst season in several ways, scoring an average of 15.8 points on a true shooting percentage of 48.7.

The Wizards have been unable to generate a strong market of interested teams for Kyle Kuzma.

— Evan Sidery (@esidery) December 23, 2024

Kuzma is also grabbing 5.6 rebounds and producing 1.9 assists on top of his point totals.

There is still time for him to improve his trade value with a few impressive games, but his lacking season may force him to remain with the league’s worst team, at least until the summer.

The Wizards aren’t in a rush to make major moves because of how poorly they are playing.

They are sellers and can take their time because even with a big trade, any chance of making the playoffs this season is just about gone.

Kuzma, on the other hand, may want to move soon because he is still a young player with a lot to prove.

His game has improved in a number of ways since coming to the Wizards from the Los Angeles Lakers a few years ago, but this season has been troubled for Kuzma.

This is hurting his current chances of going to another team, but it doesn’t have to be this way forever.

Perhaps the Wizards can work out a deal even with Kuzma’s issues, or maybe they will choose to hold on to him until the end of the season.

Wizards Are Signing Forward Jalen McDaniels

Sacramento Kings Media Day

Jalen McDaniels has played for multiple teams during his five seasons in the NBA, and now he has found a new home, at least for now.

On Saturday morning, Shams Charania reported that the Washington Wizards are signing McDaniels to a 10-day contract.

NBA fans last saw McDaniels when he played for the Toronto Raptors and averaged 3.4 points and 1.6 rebounds during 50 games last season.

The Washington Wizards are signing forward Jalen McDaniels to a 10-day contract, his agents Nima Namakian of Innovate Sports and Bill Duffy of WME Sports told ESPN. The 6-foot-9 forward has showcased shooting splits of 47-39-80 this season with Capital City in the G League. pic.twitter.com/fNYJI9VKSV

— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) February 22, 2025

With this move, the Wizards are adding frontcourt depth as they prepare for the rest of the season.

Over the last few years, McDaniels has put in work for the Charlotte Hornets, Philadelphia 76ers, and the Raptors.

After being cut by the San Antonio Spurs, McDaniels played for the Wizards’ G-League team, the Capital City Go-Go.

During his time with that team, he averaged 12.9 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.9 assists.

A 10-day contract obviously doesn’t guarantee that McDaniels will be in DC for long but he may be in a good position for a longer contract.

That’s because the Wizards have an awful record and are currently dead last in the East at 9-46.

They have no chance of reaching the playoffs and know that, which means they can give more time to McDaniels.

Therefore, he can prove himself over these 10 days and possibly secure a more permanent spot with the Wizards or another team in the NBA.

The Wizards are tinkering with their roster and will probably make a few more adjustments before the end of the season.

They might be at the start of a long rebuilding process, so they will see who works best in their lineup as they create plans for the future.

Will McDaniels be part of those plans?

These next 10 days could be hugely important for McDaniels and his career.
