The North Carolina Tar Heels will lose 3 players early this year, sophomore Harrison Barnes, sophomore Kendall Marshall, and junior John Henson. Freshman James McAdoo is still deciding what he's going to do, and Tyler Zeller is graduating. Big losses for UNC...

Honestly, I don't think Harrison Barnes is that great. Another year would have helped him a lot. Same with McAdoo.

So, good move by these players, or bad?

I really do not support athletes not finishing their college years. I think they should be required to go through all their years, and they shouldn't be able to declare for the NBA draft as a freshman, sophomore, or junior. I think they need to be a senior. I don't think the NBA should allow players to go to the NBA if they have not finished college. I feel the same way about athletes that go from high school to the pros as well. It just looks bad when parents are telling their kids they need to go to college, while the basketball player they idolize skips college and goes straight to the NBA, or doesn't bother to finish college.

Regarding North Carolina specifically though, even though they've been gutted, it won't be a problem for them. They're right up there with Kentucky when it comes to recruiting. Now, I'm really worried about Vanderbilt. The five starters this past season were four seniors and one junior. The four seniors are done at Vanderbilt of course, and John Jenkins is the junior, and many people expect he will declare for the NBA Draft. Vanderbilt is losing five or six seniors total, and they'll probably lose John Jenkins. There are a few young guys that are going to be sophomores and perhaps a junior or two that has played the bench the past couple of years, but they have not displayed anything that good really. Vanderbilt also is unable to recruit like Kentucky does, with their education requirements and such. Colleges like Kentucky will take you if you can play basketball, no matter what your grades are.
