Manchester City manager says U-turn striker should maybe say sorry

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini believes Carlos Tevez needs to score goals and should also maybe say sorry to fans after the recent wrangling. The City captain handed in a transfer request after declaring that his relationship with 'certain executives and individuals' at Eastlands had broken down beyond repair. But the Argentine then performed a U-turn, withdrawing the request and expressing his 'absolute commitment' to the club.

The saga has echoes of the drama at Manchester United concerning Wayne Rooney, with the England striker eventually saying sorry to the Red Devils fans for his actions, having signed a five-year contract which extended his stay at Old Trafford until 2015. While Mancini believes Tevez may benefit from adopting a similar approach and saying sorry to supporters, above all he thinks the Argentine needs to let his play do the talking.

The City boss said: "I don't know. Maybe he should apologise.

"It is important now that Carlos plays well and scores goals. But the fans still love him."
