The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed veteran wide receiver Plaxico Burress for the remainder of the National Football League season, with 11 weeks of the 16 weeks of play already on the books.

The 35-year-old Burress played for the New York Jets last season after spending nearly two years in prison for illegal possession of a firearm.

The veteran wideout missed the 2009 and 2010 seasons, but he had 45 receptions and eight touchdowns with the Jets last year.

Burress had not been able to find a team interested in signing him, but the Steelers needed an experienced wideout to help out their receiving corps, which has been plagued by injuries.

Burress, who the Steelers took with the No. 8 pick in the first round of the 2000 draft, spent his first five seasons in the league with Pittsburgh.

I love this. I hope he does awesome. This is a great signing, especially since Jerricho Cotchery fractured his ribs. Also, Charlie Batch is the starter this week, so he might like having a veteran wide receiver to throw to. Mike Wallace, Emmanuel Sanders, and Antonio Brown are all very young.

Yeah, if he can get even close to where he used to be in terms of skill and ability, this is a great pick-up.

Also, if he's not an idiot.

It will be interesting to see how he does. I hope they keep him around for the rest of the year, good red zone target.
