The Chicago Bears announced Friday that running back Marion Barber has retired.

A seven-year veteran, Barber, 28, played six seasons for the Dallas Cowboys before signing a two-year contract last August that included a signing bonus of $500,000 and base salaries of $2 million and $1.9 million for the 2011 and 2012 seasons, in addition to a $100,000 workout bonus.

This really surprised me. Even if he was done in Chicago with Michael Bush around and Matt Forte recovering from his injury, you know some team would have wanted him. People speculated the Steelers would try to pick up Michael Bush, but looks like that's not happening. The Steelers might have been interested in Marion Barber as I doubt Rashard Mendenhall will ever be the same after the injury he suffered.

I hate Barber as he cost the Bears the game against the Broncos this year. But this is quite surprising, he's pretty young.

Wow....this surprises me too....

The only things I can think of to why he's retiring is either that he just doesn't want to play football anymore or he has some minor injury like a back problem or something....

Minor injuries can lead to major injuries...especially if you're a running back.
