Lightning make some roster moves, and a look down the road

With four days between games, the Tampa Bay Lightning made a couple of roster moves as they assigned forward Scott Sabourin and defenseman Steven Santini to the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL. While the moves don’t have a direct impact on the playing roster as neither suited up for the Lightning during their recent recall, it could be an indication that at least one player is ready to come back.

Lightning end road trip with 3-2 loss to Blue Jackets

The Tampa Bay Lightning’s final shot of the night was wristed just wide of the net by a frustrated Brandon Hagel. Seeing how it came a full second or two after the horn had sounded, the Columbus Blue Jackets took exception and buried Hagel under a sea of blue jerseys. When the teams were finally separated, Columbus went to celebrate, and the Lightning were left with another frustrating loss as…

Lightning make two roster moves

The Tampa Bay Lightning had the day off of the ice, but for the second day in a row, general manager Julien BriseBois was busy as he made a couple of roster moves. First, defenseman Charle-Edouard D’Astous was recalled from the Syracuse Crunch. In a corresponding move, Conor Geekie was loaned to the AHL affiliate. D’Astous, 27, signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Bolts this summer to…

Lightning juggle lines in practice as injured player returns

After an off day (at least on the ice) the Tampa Bay Lightning returned to practice on Tuesday with a little different look to their lines. It was encouraging to see a couple of faces skating regular shifts again as Nikita Kucherov returned from his illness and Zemgus Girgensons, out since the pre-season, took regular shifts on the fourth line. Is this what things are going to look like…

2025 Tampa Bay Lightning Top 25 Under 25: #9 Niko Huuhtanen

We pick the series back up with an intriguing prospect. In our very first inclusion of Niko Huutanen in the Top 25 Under 25, which was all the way back in 2022, Hardev titled the post “Niko Huutanen should be a top ten prospect”. From his mouth to our ears apparently, because the big power forward has now locked down the number nine spot for three consecutive…

Lightning recall prospect as they wait for injured forwards to return

With their two injured forwards still not set for return, the Tampa Bay Lightning added some depth to their roster as they recalled Dominic James from the Syracuse Crunch. It will likely be a short trip to Tampa for the 23-year-old forward as the team is hoping Zemgus Girgensons returns to action this weekend. James was signed by the Lightning this summer after the Chicago Blackhawks let his…

Lightning lose late to Blackhawks, 3-2

When you have to write 82+ recaps over the course of the season, there are times you hope for the dramatic narrative to develop at some point during the game so that the job is a little easier. Early in the third period, with the score tied at twos between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Chicago Blackhawks, it looked like that easy narrative was unfolding in front of us. A holding penalty by…

Lightning pull ahead, stumble, pick themselves up in 4-3 win over the Ducks

For a moment in the second period, the Tampa Bay Lightning had shook off the shackles of their slow start and appeared to be on their way to a comfortable win against the Anaheim Ducks. Back-to-back milestone goals gave them a 3-1 lead and it seemed like they were headed to victory against a plucky Anaheim squad. The Ducks rocked the faith of the Lightning fans as they scored twice within a minute…

Lightning make it a two-win weekend as they down Vegas in overtime, 2-1

There is no need to get too crazy in breaking down this game. The Tampa Bay Lightning found a way to win a game that, a week ago, they would have lost. Nikita Kucherov finished off a feed from Brandon Hagel in overtime to give them a 2-1 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights. For the first time this season they have back-to-back wins and a win away from leveling their record on the season.

Lightning place Mitchell Chaffee on waivers

It seems Tampa Bay Lightning general manager Julien BriseBois will not let a non-game day go by without making a move this season. His latest transaction involves yet another forward as the Lightning placed Mitchell Chaffee on waivers on Monday. The 27-year-old will be assigned to the Syracuse Crunch should he clear. Like many of the Lightning forwards Chaffee, who has appeared in seven of the…

Some more thoughts…on returning to the area

I’m going to change things up a little bit in this week’s subscriber-only post. Instead of talking about the Tampa Bay Lightning, I’m going to get a little more personal. For those around here that might not be aware, up until about three weeks ago, my time at Raw Charge, both as an independent blog and when we part of the corporate overlords, was spent as a proud member of the #

Zemgus Girgensons scores twice in Lightning’s 5-2 win over Predators

In an 82-game season, a team will have to find many different ways to win. Some will come on the back of dazzling offensive play, some by luck, some by a heroic goaltending effort, and some by a staunch defensive effort aided by goals from unlikely contributors. Tonight was such a game. The Lightning beat the Nashville Predators, 5-2, with Zemgus Girgensons scoring twice and Charle-Edouard D’…

Cirelli’s overtime goal sends Lightning to win over Stars, 2-1

The Tampa Bay Lightning closed out the October slate of their schedule with a 2-1 victory over the Dallas Stars. Tonight’s star – Anthony Cirelli. After Brandon Hagel made a nice defensive play in his own zone to force a loose puck, Cirelli bumped the puck to open ice and outraced the Stars’ defenders for a semi-breakaway. He tucked the puck in on the near post to beat Jake Oettinger to earn the…
