Report: Hawks trade Johnson to Nets

It looks like Joe Johnson will be coming to Brooklyn and Dwight Howard won't.

The Nets have agreed to a trade with the Atlanta Hawks that will bring them Johnson, a six-time All-Star shooting guard, according to multiple reports.

The Hawks, according to sources, would get Anthony Morrow, Jordan Farmar, Jordan Williams, Johan Petro, DeShawn Stevenson (via sign-and-trade) and the Rockets' 2013 lottery-protected first-round pick.

As the Nets move from New Jersey to Brooklyn, they're trying to convince free agent point guard Deron Williams to stay with the team. They reached an agreement with free agent forward Gerald Wallace on a four-year, $40 million deal Sunday. Free agents can't officially sign new contracts until July 11.

But it appears the Nets are giving up on the idea of obtaining Howard, who has asked the Orlando Magic for a trade to Brooklyn.

If the trade for Johnson goes through, the Nets will take on the remaining four years and $89.2 million left on a six-year deal that Johnson signed with the Hawks in 2010. They've offered Williams a five-year, $100 million contract extension and would not have the financial flexibility to add Howard.

Honestly, the Nets could be a good team next year if they can keep Deron Williams. Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, and Gerald Wallace. Not many people talk about Gerald Wallace, but he was pretty good a few years ago, if I remember correctly. :P

Yeah, especially if the Nets end up landing Dwight Howard (which looks like might very well happen), they could be a great team next year.

I don't really understand this. Dwight Howard already said he wants to play for the Nets, so why not go get him first. He is the best Free Agent on the market by far, so why not put all your work into making sure Howard comes to the Nets. Also they need to make sure they get Deron Williams back, and this might have just been a move to tell Williams we aren't giving up.

Yeah, but at the time it was still all over ESPN.com that Howard still just wanted to go to the Nets.
