Pat Riley Reportedly Cried During His Meeting With Jimmy Butler

Miami Heat Introduce Jimmy Butler

Jimmy Butler has officially left the Miami Heat and is now a member of the Golden State Warriors.

It’s been a long time coming, and many reports said the Heat were happy to see him go.

But a new article from The Athletic sheds light on a conversation between Butler and Pat Riley when things apparently got emotional.

Riley opened up and actually started to cry when speaking with Butler, but his attempts at rebuilding a bond with Butler failed.

“According to multiple league sources with knowledge of the meeting, tears welled in Riley’s eyes as he attempted to connect with Butler on a human level. Both men had lost their fathers, and Riley’s famed toughness faded in the moment as he thought about Butler mourning his father’s death last season. But Riley’s vulnerability did not land with Butler. The player viewed Riley’s behavior as ‘unhinged,’ a league source close to Butler said. Butler left the meeting more convinced than ever that he needed a new basketball home,” the report said, per NBACentral.

This is a surprising move from Riley, who usually keeps his emotions on a tight leash.

Even though he was upset with Butler, he felt a strong connection to him and started to open up about their shared experiences.

Perhaps Riley thought this would create a path for reconciliation and for Butler to remain with the Heat, motivated and ready to play better.

Instead, it did just the opposite, and Butler saw Riley as “unhinged.”

This just made Butler want to leave the Heat even more.

This episode proves just how badly things had become between Butler and Riley.

Their relationship was so broken that even a very intimate moment like this couldn’t repair it.

In the end, there was no fixing this, and it makes sense that Butler is now gone.

DeMarcus Cousins Names Who Should Replace Pat Riley

Orlando Magic v Miami Heat

Pat Riley has been behind the Miami Heat for years now and is one of the most important figures in modern sports.

But no man can work forever, and the 79-year-old will eventually retire.

So, who will take over his responsibilities with the Heat when Riley finally steps down?

Speaking on “Run It Back,” former NBA star DeMarcus Cousins said that Bob Myers, previously of the Golden State Warriors, should fill Riley’s place.

“With Pat Riley walking out the door, a name that’s been really quiet lately, Bob Myers going to Miami. He’d be top-notch for that,” Cousins said, per NBACentral.

Myers was the general manager of the Golden State Warriors from 2012 to 2023.

As basketball fans can remember, this was a hugely important period for the Warriors, and they won multiple championships during that time.

For his hard work, Myers was named NBA Executive of the Year twice during his tenure.

Since retiring from that role, Myers has been all over the television and has given his opinion and analysis to ESPN.

It seems like he is quite comfortable in his new job, but would he be willing to return to the league if the Heat called him?

Being Heat president could give Myers the ability to reshape the team and start its next chapter.

Of course, taking over for Riley would also be a huge honor that Myers would be proud of.

Right now, he likes his job, and it looks like Riley isn’t stepping down.

But when that day comes, Heat fans should take another look at Myers.

Jimmy Butler Reportedly Only Wants To Be Traded To 1 Team

Phoenix Suns v Miami Heat

Jimmy Butler desperately wants out of the Miami Heat and is eager to join one team and one team only: the Phoenix Suns.

Speaking on ESPN, per Dru on X and NBACentral, Brian Windhorst said no amount of money would convince Butler to play for another team.

He is adamant about coming to the Suns, even as his chance of going there dwindles days before the trade deadline.

Brian Windhorst says Jimmy Butler’s only goal is to get to Phoenix, and no amount of money or a role on a different team will change his mind. He wants Phoenix and Phoenix only.

What will happen if talks between the Suns and Heat never materialize and lead to a trade?

That will leave Butler in a tough spot, seemingly stuck with the team he has tried so hard to get away from.

Could Butler potentially come back and play well with the Heat after all the drama?

He is eager to be in Phoenix, but the Suns might not be able to put a deal together.

They’d have to part ways with Bradley Beal, who has a no-trade clause.

They also might have to include even more than that to make the Heat happy.

A lot of things have to go right in a short amount of time.

Of course, Butler could also choose to try a different team instead.

But even then, a lot of reporting has said there aren’t many franchises interested in Butler right now, especially after this debacle with the Heat.

The options are limited, and the clock is winding down.

Will Butler get his wish and move to the Suns, or will he spend the next few months in an awkward situation with the Heat?

Jimmy Butler Has Reportedly Blocked Multiple Trades

2023 NBA Finals - Game Four

Jimmy Butler wants to leave the Miami Heat and join the Phoenix Suns.

Anything less than that isn’t interesting to the six-time All-Star.

According to a new report from Brian Windhorst, Butler has actually blocked multiple trade options that would have been good fits for him, all in hopes of moving to the Suns.

“Butler’s obsession with getting to the Phoenix Suns is bizarrely admirable. He has torched his relationship with the Heat and hurt the team’s season. He has also blocked trade options that would be good fits, where he could have potentially gotten paid and been on a contender,” Windhorst wrote, per NBACentral.

Butler has obviously gone all-in on the Suns and that is his only goal before the upcoming trade deadline.

Tim Bontemps was also part of this report with Windhorst and said that there isn’t a lot of interest in Butler right now, so if things with the Suns don’t work out, where will he go?

That remains to be seen, but the Heat are serious about getting rid of him as soon as they can.

The team is reportedly “unwilling” to not find a suitor for Butler, which means they may settle on a squad that he isn’t happy with.

If that happens, he will have nothing to do and no choice but to move.

He has made his desire known and only wants to play for the Suns, but he may not get his wish.

Because of the way he has handled this situation, he might be traded to a team he doesn’t like since the Heat are so eager to cut ties with him entirely.

Butler is attempting to use all his leverage but is running out of power and options.

Will he be in Phoenix next week or will the Heat choose to send him somewhere else?

Analyst Names Dark Horse Suitor To Acquire Jimmy Butler

Sacramento Kings v Miami Heat

The NBA trade deadline is now just days away, and the clock is ticking louder than ever.

That means if the Miami Heat want to deal away Jimmy Butler, they will have to do it soon.

Reports have said that multiple potential deals have fallen apart, but a dark horse is still in the running for Butler.

According to Jake Weinbach, the Milwaukee Bucks “loom as a real dark horse suitor for Jimmy Butler.”

“Khris Middleton, Bobby Portis, Pat Connaughton, MarJon Beauchamp, and Delon Wright would likely be the potential players involved. Any Butler-to-Milwaukee deal would require the Bucks to duck under the 2nd apron,” Weinbach wrote on X.

— Jake Weinbach (@JWeinbachNBA) February 3, 2025

This isn’t the first time fans have heard rumors of the Bucks wanting Butler.

They envision him fitting in well alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard, and others.

Ironically, Lillard was attempting to sign with the Miami Heat when he was leaving the Portland Trail Blazers, partly because he wanted to play with Butler and the team’s culture.

If a deal comes together, Lillard might finally get his wish and suit up with Butler in Milwaukee.

Speaking of deals, the Bucks would have to move around a few assets to get Butler.

They would need to compose a package that makes the Heat happy, but that might be easier than before.

There was a time when the Heat were content to sit still and not do anything.

They had no desire to give into Butler’s demands and weren’t going to agree to anything they didn’t really like.

But they have softened their stance and are now eager to get rid of Butler before the deadline, so the Bucks have a better chance than they did before.

However, time is winding down, and both teams will need to move quickly.

2 Teams Are Being Considered The ‘Most Likely’ Trade Destinations For Jimmy Butler

MIAMI, FLORIDA - DECEMBER 07: Jimmy Butler #22 of the Miami Heat warms up prior to facing the Phoenix Suns at Kaseya Center on December 07, 2024 in Miami, Florida.

The Miami Heat have suspended Jimmy Butler three times this season, the latest time indefinitely.

The franchise player reportedly walked out of the team’s shootaround after he was informed he wouldn’t be in the starting lineup.

His days in Miami look all but over as both parties may have reached a point of no return.

With Butler available heading toward the NBA trade deadline, one insider reported that there are two likely landing spots for him.

“The Phoenix Suns and Golden State Warriors are still considered the two most likely trade destinations for Jimmy Butler, per Anthony Chiang (of the Miami Herald),” NBACentral wrote on X.

The Warriors could use a helping hand.

They have several young players they can use as trade bait to acquire Butler, and their package could be more enticing than that of the Suns.

However, the Warriors might be hesitant to jeopardize their future for a rental of Butler, who can become a free agent at the end of the season.

The Suns reportedly are attempting to trade Bradley Beal to acquire Butler, but that will be easier said than done.

In addition to Beal’s hefty salary, he has a no-trade clause, and the Heat reportedly aren’t interested in him, so they would need to find a third team to get involved.

Butler and Kevin Durant reportedly are good friends, and landing Butler would likely assure that both of them will sign contract extensions with the Suns.

The trade deadline is less than a week away, and it looks like this will go down to the wire.

Jimmy Butler may have a tough reputation around the NBA.

At times, he’s been deemed a toxic teammate and a negative presence in the locker room.

Before joining the Miami Heat, he burned bridges with the Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves and Philadelphia 76ers.

However, in Miami, it seemed like he finally turned the narrative around.

Now, once again, he has rubbed people the wrong way.

According to a report from Rachel Nichols, Heat players have finally had it with Butler.

“I talked to guys in that locker room and to say they have had it is an understatement. Because he has disrespected them so much the way he’s been in and out,” Nichols said, via NBACentral.

That seems to be a recurring issue with Butler.

When things went wrong, he took an individual approach, and he often treated everybody else on the team as lesser, as if they couldn’t win without him.

Though that might be true, Butler hasn’t won an NBA championship, either.

He is a strong competitor and a very good two-way player.

However, he is not getting any younger and has struggled with injuries, and these attitude issues might also be red flags going forward.

Whichever new team acquires him should know that he comes with some baggage.

Set to become a free agent at the end of the season, whoever gets him also has to be aware that he might not want to extend his stay.

It’s unfortunate to witness such a talented player burning bridges wherever he goes, and when it’s all said and done, people might forget Butler for the star he was at his best.

Carmelo Anthony Has Advice For Jimmy Butler

Basketball - Olympics: Day 7

The drama surrounding Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat has only intensified over the last few weeks, and now it’s obvious that the bridge between them has officially been burned with no hopes of repair.

It’s a messy situation, and some people feel that Butler hasn’t handled it well.

Speaking on “7PM In Brooklyn,” former NBA star Carmelo Anthony talked about Butler’s choices and compared him to another player who had a nasty breakup with his team.

“Jimmy, man, chill out. Because they’re going to Marbury you. They’re going to tell you, ‘Don’t even come around no more until we figure out what’s next.’ And when they do that, there’s no other team you’re going to,” Butler said, per Legion Hoops.

The parallels between Butler and Stephon Marbury are hard to ignore.

Marbury was once a celebrated and beloved basketball figure, but his relationship with the New York Knicks became so contentious that he didn’t just leave the team; he hurt his overall value and impacted his image and reputation.

Marbury’s career was never the same after his ugly split with the Knicks, and Anthony is concerned the same thing could happen to Butler.

There have been many public spats between players and teams and they have often cost NBA stars in the court of public opinion.

Because Butler has dug in his heels and decided to not participate with the team during this trade saga, it has made him look selfish.

That, along with his age, could really hurt him in the eyes of fans moving forward.

Plus, teams may be very hesitant to work with him for fear of him acting like this again in the future.

Butler might feel that his brightest days are ahead of him, but will he ever truly recover from this?

Bam Adebayo Reveals His Pitch To NBA Stars To Join Heat

Miami Heat v Houston Rockets

The Miami Heat could be changing soon and might be adding new talent.

Any player coming to the team should know what to expect, and Bam Adebayo recently made it clear.

Speaking with Anthony Chiang, per Basketball On X, Adebayo talked about what it’s like playing for the Heat.

“You’re going to get here, you know what it is. There’s not BS. There’s no, “I’m going to get my numbers… To me, if I consider you like family like [De’Aaron Fox], I’m not going to like to you, you’re getting a coach that’s not going to let you go below your standard and sometimes that gets annoying,” Adebayo said, per Legion Hoops.

— Legion Hoops (@LegionHoops) January 30, 2025

Adebayo laid it out plainly: playing for the Heat isn’t always easy, and a lot will be expected.

Head coach Erik Spoelstra will not let players not live up to their potential, and he will push every member of the squad.

The Heat have a well-known culture that is all about a next-man-up mentality, where everyone works together and tries to achieve a common goal.

Some people might think Adebayo’s comment is a sly dig at Jimmy Butler, who will probably be leaving the team soon.

Butler was reportedly unhappy with his role on the team and how he wasn’t getting as much time in command as in the past.

Adebayo said the team doesn’t endorse or support any players who are attempting to get their “numbers” while not working in tandem with everyone else.

That sort of personality doesn’t fit with the Heat and Adebayo said it won’t fly.

Analyst Says 1 Team Might Remove Themselves From Jimmy Butler Trade Talks

Miami Heat v Washington Wizards

The NBA has been consumed with Jimmy Butler drama for weeks now, and everyone thought it would come to an end by next week when the trade deadline arrives.

But that might not be the case because behind-the-scenes chaos continues.

According to Brett Siegel, per Legion Hoops, there has been some talk about the Phoenix Suns “pulling away” from a Butler trade.

If that is the truth, it could add a whole new level of complication to the situation.

REPORT: There’s been some chatter of the Suns “pulling away” from Jimmy Butler trade talks, per @BrettSiegelNBA pic.twitter.com/DwOD0eB1Bq

— Legion Hoops (@LegionHoops) January 30, 2025

When Butler first requested a trade, he made it clear that he would like to play for the Suns.

However, the Suns were having a tough time putting the right sort of package together, especially because Bradley Beal has a no-trade clause in his contract, which severely limits the Suns.

But it has lately sounded like they were figuring something out and headed in the right direction.

Maybe they have cold feet, or maybe their priorities have shifted.

There is still a lot of time between now and next week’s deadline, so Suns fans shouldn’t lose all hope.

The Heat recently changed their stance and are now hearing offers from other teams about Butler.

They once wanted a big return in exchange for him but they are so eager to put this chapter behind them that they will listen to all kinds of potential trades.

So even if the talks with Phoenix fall apart, they will have other options.

One way or another, Butler is probably leaving Miami by next week, but he may not be going to Phoenix.

Tyler Herro Has Honest Admission About The Heat As Contenders

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA - FEBRUARY 16: Tyler Herro #14 of the Miami Heat and Kenny's Young Stars walks out during team introductions during the 74th NBA All-Star Game at Chase Center on February 16, 2025 in San Francisco, California.

The Miami Heat have officially transitioned into a new era.

Moving on from Jimmy Butler was a necessary evil, not only because of his feud with the organization but also because they were thinking about the future.

Now, Tyler Herro has the keys, but he knows the team has its work cut out for them.

Talking to Frank Isola and Brian Scalabrine on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Herro admitted that they’re not contenders right now:

“If we’re calling a spade a spade, we’re not contenders right now,” he said.

— SiriusXM NBA Radio (@SiriusXMNBA) February 18, 2025

The first-time All-Star has finally broken out and played like the franchise-caliber player he showed glimpses of potentially being in the past.

Even so, having him and Bam Adebayo might not be enough to contend for a championship right now.

Of course, young players like Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Kel’el Ware seem to have a bright future ahead of them, but this team still needs another spark.

They also need someone to run the offense, as they don’t have a true point guard at the moment.

Erik Spoelstra is one of the best tacticians in the game, and the Heat have excelled at finding and developing talent that other teams often overlook.

Nevertheless, they will still need some more time and assets to field a competitive team and get back to where they need to be.

Pat Riley could certainly use a big win in free agency or the trade market after years of swings and misses, and while some believe he’s lost his pull in the league already, it wouldn’t be wise to bet against him.

Tim Hardaway Makes A Wild Claim About Jimmy Butler

Oklahoma City Thunder v Miami Heat

The last few months have been wild and dramatic for Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat.

Butler sat out of multiple games as he fought to be traded and also suffered injury problems this season and last that only made the situation worse.

But was he really hurt at all?

Speaking on the “Gil’s Arena” show, Tim Hardaway Sr. cast doubt on that claim.

“He wasn’t hurt. He was just taking games off,” Hardaway said, per Legion Hoops.

“He wasn’t hurt. He was just taking games off.”

(via @GilsArenaShow) pic.twitter.com/1BmLN7aY73

— Legion Hoops (@LegionHoops) February 20, 2025

There was a time when Heat fans would have given Butler the benefit of the doubt, but a lot has changed, and now most of them probably agree with Hardaway.

It became painfully clear that Butler didn’t want to play for the Heat earlier this season.

After months of speculation and rumors, he got hurt, started playing poorly, and made a few public comments stating that he had lost the joy of playing basketball and couldn’t get it back in Miami.

Then, he formally requested a trade from the team, which set off a firestorm of stories and commotion behind the scenes.

Butler was suspended multiple times by the team because of how he acted off the court and the situation got very messy until the Heat finally traded him to the Golden State Warriors weeks ago.

Now a lot of Heat supporters feel that Butler wasn’t being honest about his injury and just didn’t want to play anymore.

This is just one of the many reasons why Butler will probably be a villain to the city of Miami for a while.

He did incredible things for the team, but the way he left was very chaotic and ugly and left a bad impression on the fans.

NBA stars spend hours upon hours every day working on their bodies and making sure they are in great shape, but they still love a delicious fast food meal.

Tyler Herro of the Miami Heat is apparently a big fan of Raising Cane’s and spent some time working at one of their locations recently.

A video shared by NBACentral on X featured Herro behind the counter at Raising Cane’s, wearing a very different kind of uniform than he is used to.

Herro said this was an opportunity to give back to his community, and that is exactly what he did.

He chatted with his customers, commented on their orders, and even talked a bit of basketball.

Herro has had a very good week.

He won the NBA three-point contest at All-Star Weekend and then got to partake in the big game too.

It was just the latest highlight of 2024-25 for Herro, who is averaging 23.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game for the Heat.

Just a few years ago, he was a bench player and there were a ton of questions about his future with the team.

But now he has secured a spot in the starting lineup and is in fact one of the Heat’s most important players.

From Sixth Man of the Year to All-Star, Herro has come a long way during his six seasons in the NBA.

This will probably be the last time Herro works at a fast food establishment because his future in the NBA is now certain.

We don’t know if he will be a lifelong Heat player, but the team is clearly very happy with what Herro is doing this year.

He’s selling fried chicken during his days off but always cooking on the court.
