NEW YORK -- Chicago Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said Saturday that Derrick Rose would not play in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals against the Brooklyn Nets and was "most likely out" for the rest of the postseason.

Rose, who tore the ACL in his left knee April 28 in the first game of last season's playoffs, has not played at all this season.

While Thibodeau and Rose kept open the option of Rose's return, it's become apparent that time is running out.

"He's most likely out but you never know," Thibodeau said. "The playoffs are stretched out, too, so you have to factor that in. So who knows another week from now where he is? You always want to leave that possibility open."

Thibodeau said the organization's stance on Rose playing will not change as they head into the postseason.

"It's going to be the same," Thibodeau said. "We're not going to change that. It's gone this far so we'll see, we'll see if he can improve."

Thibodeau said he wouldn't hesitate to put Rose back into the lineup if the former MVP thought he was ready to play.

"That'd be fine," Thibodeau said. "Whenever he can come back, he comes back."

Well, it looks like Derrick Rose will most likely not be making his comeback in the playoffs this season. I wonder where this leaves the Bulls. How long will they last in the playoffs? Thoughts?

Derrick Rose is protecting his future here. He doesn't want to risk serious injury and missing more time of his career. He wants to be completely healthy and have a whole training camp to prepare to play. The Bulls can still beat the Nets though I think.

I believe that the Nets will win this series playing against the Bulls missing Derrick Rose. I just can't see them being an Eastern Conference powerhouse without their number one scorer/player.

The Nets beat the Bulls easily last night. Chicago couldn't handle Deron Williams or Brooke Lopez. Joakim Noah started, but he didn't play very much.

I remember somewhere it said D Rose said if the Bulls make the 2nd round he will play. He is protecting his future, but the Bulls need him right now! Last night it was basically all Carlos Boozer.

I don't think that is correct. Where did you hear that?

The Bulls have bounced back. They are now up 3-1 on the Nets in the series.

Derrick Rose has been cleared for months to play. Its all mental at this point. While I agree with wanting to protect your future I don't think I could ever stand by and watch my sick and hurt teammates do battle in the playoffs. He looked fine when he was jumping up and down on the sidelines and certainly looked okay when he was photographed going clubbing after a loss. He deserves all the criticism he's received.
