Dan Quinn and Jayden Daniels talk about preparing for Week 1, Terry, Jaylin, and more

The Washington Commanders held their last practice before they break for the Labor Day weekend. Dan Quinn spoke to the media before they hit the fields and announced that two defensive backs weren’t here today for very special reasons. Mike Sainristil and Jonathan Jones are both expecting to become fathers today. The Commanders are preparing for their Week 1 home game against the New York Giants, but they also have to look ahead to their Week 2 Thursday Night Football game against the Green Bay Packers.

Jayden Daniels spoke to reporters after practice, and he, like Dan Quinn talked about rookie WR Jaylin Lane. Quinn likes the way he takes to coaching from Bobby Engram, and Daniels said the fourth-round pick gets better every day. Everybody is happy that Terry McLaurin’s contract saga ended and he’s back on the practice field with the rest of the team. Daniels said his chemistry with his top target never leaves, and he wasn’t worried about him missing training camp.

Preparing for a short Week 2:​

DQ said Commanders coaches spent a lot of last 3 days trying to get ahead of the game plan for Green Bay in Week 2 on a short week.

Regression in 4th down success:​

Dan Quinn understands Washington could have some regression on 4th down success: "Jayden was a big factor in that." Sometimes Jayden just made a play, and DQ doesnt want to have to depend on that.

One thing I appreciate about DQ is he doesnt approach things "my way or the highway." Allows his team needs to improve how they prepare, even when the results were good last year. Understands they could regress on 4th down, etc. Not all coaches have that mindset.
