The Chicago Cubs traded 35-year old starting pitcher Ryan Dempster to the Texas Rangers just minutes before the trade-deadline. In return, the Cubs received minor leaguers RHP Kyle Hendricks and 3B Christian Villenueva.

Texas really needed some pitching. Neftali Feliz and Colby Lewis are out for the rest of the season, and Roy Oswalt has had and ERA of 6.49 in his 6 starts with the Rangers this season.

The Cubs then traded catcher Geovany Soto and cash to the Rangers for Jake Brigham and either a player to be named, or cash.

Thoughts? I don't think Dempster will be an ace for the Rangers, but I think he'll provide decent outings. Soto is a hot and cold player, but I think he'll do pretty well for the Rangers.

UPDATE: Roy Oswalt has been moved to the bullpen.

Both great pickups by the rangers. They get a good young cstcher who can hit for pop and is good defensively. Dempster is an experienced pitcher coming off injury and should be able to propel the rangers to the al west division title.
