Creating your own dish?

Has anyone actually ever tried creating their own dish?

I have not yet I have seen a few interesting replies to this kind of thread on other forums so I thought why not try it here and see what responses I get, my brother has tried this yet he has always failed to make it original, aesthetically pleasing and most importantly failed to make it taste nice. If you have ever tried making your dish and succeeded share your recipes or share your failed attempt stories here. :lol:

I like cooking and do make some changes in the recipes that exist. And yes. my cabbage salad is my own. You grate the cabbage, marinate it in salt, squeeze ouf the liquid, add curds to which mustard paste is added and then garnish with onion rings, chopped green chilies and chopped coriander leaves.
