Cheerleading - Sport?

Before I post this topic, I'd like to let it be known I fully believe cheerleaders are athletes. However, I don't think cheerleading in itself is a sport. Reason being, the word sport means something you compete in. While cheerleaders do have competitions, they only have those certain times of the year.

So, do you believe cheerleading is a sport?
 
They're definitely athletes... there's not much denying that. But I'm not sure if I would call it a sport.

I'm gonna have to just split it up and say that it's a sport only when they're actually competing. I'd say that's pretty fair.
 
Yeah, a couple weeks ago I actually saw high school cheerleading on ESPN2. I still wouldn't consider it a sport though, unless it's actually a competition.
 
Cheerleading is definitely a form of exercise, I don't know whether I would call it a "sport", I suppose to some people it is their sport and they do compete as well.
 
Hmm.. I dont even think about this question before! LoL! But hearing what other have said, i think it should be a form of sport too.
 
They are athletes but it is so not a sport. I think of it more as an activity and extra thing. It can be linked to sports but is not directly a sport. Never ever. However, many girls in my school think it is.
