While Myles Garrett would like a trade from the Cleveland Browns, the structure of his contract makes it a difficult move for the team to make happen.

Given the bonus-laden structure of Garrett’s deal to create cap flexibility and keep his base value low, the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year carries a heavy dead cap hit for the Browns to move him via the trade market, which they insist they are not interested in doing.

If the Browns were to trade Garrett before the 2025 NFL draft, which would be necessary for them to add capital, they would not only eat $36 million in dead cap, they would be penalized an additional $16 million. Nick Korte of Over the Cap (the most trusted site in terms of NFL salary cap figures and inner workings) broke it down:

“It’s going to be tricky for the Browns to be able to pull off a trade. They’re going to be about $38.6M over the cap, and trading Myles Garrett would add another $16.5M in dead cap dollars to that. They’d really have to go to the restructure well hard in order to pull it off.”

Korte assumes that the Browns would have to not only restructure Deshaun Watson’s contract again, but do the same with cornerback Denzel Ward, and still make a few cuts (he names offensive tackle Jack Conklin) just to make a trade work.

So, while Garrett wants out, he may have to wait until after June 1 to make that happen. And for the Browns, that may not be worth it with any added draft capital to help replace Garrett in the rearview mirror.

With Myles Garrett asking for a trade, could Colorado’s Travis Hunter be the next great Cleveland Browns talent?

Generational.

This term has been increasingly thrown around over the past few years in discussions surrounding the prospects at the top of NFL draft boards. While what determines a “generation” in the NFL is vague, a small sect of players can rightfully claim that adjective as a descriptor. Myles Garrett is among those select few, as proven by his athleticism, accolades, and records.

“The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl. With that in mind, I have requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns.”

On February 3rd, Garrett officially requested a trade from the Browns organization, leaving many fans with a feeling of loss and hopelessness. These emotions are familiar to this franchise, which is crowned with the moniker The Factory of Sadness. Today, I will not delve into what Myles means to this organization, this team, and the greater city of Cleveland. Instead, I will turn my gaze towards our long-lost beacon of hope, a top-five pick in the NFL draft.

The 2025 NFL draft is interesting. It does not have the same quantity of high-level talent that NFL teams have been spoiled with over the past few years at the quarterback, edge, and tackle positions. What further adds to the intrigue surrounding this draft is that it includes one of the best football athletes the world has ever seen.

Who could land a trade with the Cleveland Browns for Myles Garrett?

A bombshell dropped Monday morning when Garrett formally requested a trade, just a week after general manager Andrew Berry said he wouldn’t trade Garrett this offseason at any price. This will now unlikely unfold in a long and drawn-out battle between Garrett and his agent and the Browns leadership led by Berry.

The Browns technically have the leverage for now. Garrett is under contract for two more seasons at a modest $19.7m cap hit for the upcoming season. Trading teams would get him at a good cost but the Browns would have to eat $36m in dead cap to move him, adding incentive not to do so.

However, superstars typically get what they want. At age 30 and in demand for a monster contract extension, it may be beneficial for the Browns as well to rip off the band-aid and start a rebuild with an excess of assets. Per Tankathon, the Browns already have the most capital in the upcoming draft, so any trade would have to position them well in the future to address the need at quarterback.

Khalil Mack may represent the best precedent for a trade. Mack was traded by the Oakland Raiders after two First-Team All-Pro seasons and a Defensive Player of the Year award, while also in need of a lengthy extension. The Chicago Bears made the move by sending a first round pick in 2019, a first round pick in 2020, and an additional third rounder and sixth rounder, receiving Mack in return as well as a second and seventh. However, at the time Mack was two years younger and four seasons lighter than Garrett is currently, so an unprecedented haul won’t be realistic.

The teams be aligned to make the move for Garrett will need good draft assets over the next two seasons, plentiful cap space to extend him, and the championship window that he’s looking for. Garrett does not have a no-trade clause on his deal, but if he weren’t to agree to an extension with a trading team they’d be far more weary of spending up for him.

On his quest to win his third straight NFL Super Bowl, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce shared his opinion on the recent trade news surrounding the Cleveland Browns and defensive end Myles Garrett.

In an announcement reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rappoport earlier this week, Cleveland’s defensive star requested a trade from the team. Browns general manager Andrew Berry had previously stated that he would not trade Garrett, even for as much as two NFL first-round draft picks.

During a media day interview in New Orleans leading up to the Super Bowl, Cleveland Heights native Travis Kelce gave his thoughts on Garrett’s trade request:

“I think every team in the NFL would be accepting of a guy like Myles Garrett… Cleveland still deserves to have a product that they can get really excited for. They’re fiending for an opportunity to go crazy for football.”

Kelce went on to explain how meaningful Myles Garrett’s impact has been to the community and the Browns franchise throughout his career. The team will most likely remain quiet until there is official news regarding their star player, hoping for a resolution before he is dealt elsewhere.

The Cleveland Browns will have to think creatively to solve their quarterback situation this season, and one analyst has suggested a trade with the New England Patriots for second-year gunslinger Joe Milton.

The Browns have limited salary cap space, have to get star defensive end Myles Garrett to buy back in after his recent trade request, and have to find a quarterback this offseason. It is going to be a tough and stressful offseason in Berea.

After the Boston Sports Journal reported that the Patriots would contemplate trading Milton after his one stellar start to close the season, The Draft Network’s Justin Melo wonders if the Browns could find a solution on the trade market. Here is what Melo had to say:

“Taking a chance on Milton’s raw abilities would be worth the gamble if Sanders/Ward aren’t attainable. The Browns have a terrific offensive-minded head coach in Kevin Stefanski who would be capable of developing Milton. The franchise simply can’t run it back with Watson, who already suffered a second serious offseason Achilles injury during his recovery from a season-ending one.”

In his one game with a significant amount of playing time, Week 18 against the resting Buffalo Bills, Milton was 22-of-28 for 241 yards and a touchdown in the win for the Patriots.

Milton, listed at 6-foot-5 and 246 pounds, is a great athlete with a top-tier arm. Accuracy and running a juvenile Tennessee offense were the big knocks on Milton coming out of college, leading him to fall to the sixth round.

Could playing in a structured wide zone offense like head coach Kevin Stefanski wants to get back to in Cleveland bring out the best in the young quarterback with big-time tools?

We’ll see how the Browns seek to find a quarterback this offseason, but Milton could firmly be on the table.

Could Denzel Ward take a page from Myles Garrett’s playbook and request a trade from the Cleveland Browns next?

The Browns are facing a dilemma as the fallout from Garrett’s trade request continues to ripple throughout the organization.

Now, his potential departure raises serious concerns about the team’s direction. The Browns have built their defensive identity around their defensive line, with Garrett as its lynchpin. If he is dealt, it will undoubtedly cause a domino effect on the franchise, leaving us bereft of any elite talent and cast adrift in a sea of mediocrity.

Speaking with Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland dot com, cornerback Denzel Ward didn’t mince words when reacting to the news.

“Are we trying to win if we’re trading Hall of Fame players like that?”

Ward’s comments underline a growing sentiment within the organization that moving Garrett could signal a larger shift in direction—one that raises serious questions about Cleveland’s viability as a contender.

When informed that the Browns have no intention of trading Garrett—not even for two first-round picks—Ward’s response shifted to optimism.

“That’s great news.. We’ve got to get this thing rolling in Cleveland, and get the quarterback position together and get a few other positions together and find a way to compete for championships and make it here where we get to a Super Bowl.”

Ward’s comments hint at a silver lining: while uncertainty looms, the team believes that the Browns’ window isn’t closed just yet.

The 2024 season did not go as the Cleveland Browns had hoped following a surprise playoff appearance behind an inspired Joe Flacco run. The Browns quickly fell through the ranks, finishing 3-14 as the second-worst team in the league. Perhaps there was some hesitation behind the optimism going into the season, but the lingering feeling that something was off loomed well before Deshaun Watson went down with an injury.

We don’t need to mince words. Watson is what ultimately went wrong with the Browns. The trade assets, the financial commitment, and the on-field play all doomed the team before they truly had a chance. All of their success in 2023 was despite Watson and any hope that he could return to form was quickly dashed early in the season.

But Watson returned the same results as he did the season before and the Browns still were not nearly as competitive as they had been, so what happened?

The saga between the Cleveland Browns and Myles Garrett is just beginning to ramp up.

After he formally requested a trade from the Browns earlier this week, the team responded that they have no interest in entertaining conversations involving the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Financially, it is hard to see how the numbers would add up for the Browns given the amount of dead cap attached to his name the team would have to eat.

That has not stopped Garrett from reaffirming the trade request in a very public manner. With the Super Bowl arriving on Sunday, Garrett was at Radio Row, hitting multiple booths along the way of a torrid media tour to continue to push his message of a desire for a trade. So what did Garrett say on his media tour?

Here are the highlights:

Source

Myles Garrett is not the only Cleveland Browns player on Radio Row at the Super Bowl, as tight end David Njoku has also been caught on the scene.

And in classic Njoku fashion, the Pro Bowl tight end is not wearing a shirt just like it is a pregame ritual in 20-degree weather. On Radio Row, however, Njoku sat down with the guys at Bleacher Report to discuss the future of the Browns, including the trade request made by Garrett, who did a media tour of his own.

In the interview, Mike Golic Jr. asks Njoku if he has any public plea for Garrett. Njoku responded:

“Come on, dawg, stay home, bro… Stay home, come on, give it another shot. We ain’t that far off, honestly speaking, so.”

Njoku furthered his plea to his fellow 2017 NFL draft first round pick:

“That’s my brother, man. We came in the same time, the same round. We’ve been here the same amount of time. We’ve seen the lowest of the lows and the highest of the highs in our team… I don’t think we’re done yet. I know he wants to win, wants to be great, wants to be a champion. So do I… Stay home baby. We already got this far. We didn’t come this far just to come this far.”
Browns TE David Njoku: “I think we’re close. We just need a healthy, good quarterback.” pic.twitter.com/eNIadSJpWJ

— Daniel Oyefusi (@DanielOyefusi) February 6, 2025

As for how close the Browns are? Njoku thinks they may be just one piece away:

“I think we’re close, man. I think we just need a healthy, good quarterback.”

The Browns have publicly stated they will not entertain trading their future first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Famer. Can Njoku and the Browns get Garrett to buy back in for the 2025 season though?

Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett has been busy this week on his Radio Row media tour.

The reason? To get his name out there after requesting a trade from Cleveland earlier this week.

The NFL and its star players have taken notice of the news surrounding Garrett’s trade request and his clear intention to leave the team. Bills defensive tackle Dion Dawkins and 49ers tight end George Kittle are two of the latest players to comment on the potential trade.

When asked which NFL player he would like to add to the Bills roster, Dawkins said, “Myles Garrett, right now, come rock with us. Let’s win a Super Bowl.”

While a trade to an AFC team would be difficult, Garrett would be an immediate upgrade to any NFL roster, especially a contender like Buffalo.

Kittle also weighed in on Garrett’s situation during an appearance on FanDuels Up & Adams show:

George Kittle to Myles Garrett:

“Hey Myles, we could be really good friends, I promise.”

“I think Fred (Warner) would love to have another solid defensive lineman to make his job easier,” Kittle said. He also joked that he and Garrett could be best friends if the star defender were to join the 49ers via trade.

Recruitment season has officially begun this NFL offseason, and Myles Garrett is the player everyone wants. Rumors will continue to swirl as more players try to convince him to join their teams, despite him being under contract with Cleveland until 2026.

The Browns also have the second overall pick, so it remains to be seen what type of future they will build with the potential return of their star defender.

Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett is once again in the headlines.

This time, it has nothing to do with his recent request for a trade away from the team that took him first overall in the 2017 NFL draft. The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year failed to defend his title this year as Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II has brought home the hardware.

Garrett finished in third place in NFL Defensive Player of the Year voting this season.

Garrett did, however, once again finish with more first-place votes than Pittsburgh Steelers’ pass rusher T.J. Watt. Overall, Garrett finished with a total of 162 votes: five first-place votes, 11 second-place votes, and 12 third-place votes among them.

Surtain II, the winner, finished with 26 first-place votes, while Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson finished second with 11 first-place votes.

As Garrett looks to reclaim his crown as the NFL Defensive Player of the Year next year, let’s hope it is once again in a Browns uniform.

The Cleveland Browns could look for a running back in the 2025 NFL draft, so who are the best ones?

With All-Pro Nick Chubb entering free agency after back-to-back season-ending injuries, there is a ton of uncertainty at the running back position in Cleveland. While Chubb wants to return to Cleveland, there is much left up in the air right now for the team to navigate.

Good thing the guys over at Daft on Draft have watched the tape and have broken down their top five running backs in the NFL draft. They talk about it on the Daft on Draft Podcast. Could the Browns target one of these five guys?

This podcast can be heard on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. You can also find it on YouTube below:

The Cleveland Browns continue to navigate their newest mess, a Myles Garrett trade request, as they look to pick up the pieces from the failed Deshaun Watson experience.

However, despite Garrett’s torrid Radio Row media tour where he continued to affirm his desire for a trade, the Browns do not look like they will change their stance. ESPN’s Adam Schefter solidified that thought as well.

Schefter reports on The Pat McAfee Show that the Browns are “dug in” and will not entertain any trade offers for Garrett:

“We have a team here in the Cleveland Browns, I know that we get swept up in the moment, we got this Defensive Player of the Year requesting a trade out of Cleveland. This is not a surprise to the Browns. The Browns knew about his unhappiness and I think they have asked around and prepared for it. They’ve got some opinions on how to best handle this situation… I think they are dug in and entrenched in their stance that they arenot going to trade Myles Garrett.”

Teams do not trade core, foundational players. Teams do not trade future first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Famers. Garrett can continue to make this messy if he would like, but it does not look like the Browns are changing their minds.

Until a trade occurs, do not expect a trade to occur.

The Cleveland Browns enter NFL free agency with gobs of pending free agents, including running back Nick Chubb.

Chubb has expressed his desire to stay in Cleveland and get a new deal done sooner rather than later. However, he is far from the only free agent the Browns may have to work with. Names like quarterback Jameis Winston, offensive tackle Jedrick Wills, wide receiver Elijah Moore, and tight end Jordan Akins are all unrestricted free agents as well.

So what could the cost to retain some of their talent be? Or a better question for some, what will their value be on the open market? We take a look here at what the next contract on all of the pending Browns free agents could be at the start of the new league year.

These numbers come from Over the Cap’s free agency valuation and PFF’s top-100 free agency projections. Of note: OTC’s valuation is not a projected contract, but a dollar figure of a player’s value to their next team. Some players will have valuations in the thousands of dollars despite the salary minimum being around $1 million.

PFF’s numbers, however, on the few that fall into the top 100 free agents, are projected contract values.

There has been buzz about the Cleveland Browns and the potential selection of Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders as the franchise’s new face, but ultimately, that decision will be made by general manager Andrew Berry.

His dad and head coach of Colorado, Deion Sanders, has already stated that he has spoken to the brass in Cleveland. He has indicated that he is fine with any of the three teams picking at the top of the 2025 NFL draft.

However, what does Berry think about Sanders as a quarterback? During his time in Mobile, Alabama at the Reese’s Senior Bowl, Berry spoke on the Colorado and potential future Cleveland quarterback:

“Shedeur is a really impressive young man… He’s poised, he’s calm, he’s smart and you can tell that he’s been raised by – quite honestly – a Hall of Fame dad. We’re going to get to know him even more over the course of the spring but he’s really impressive.”

It becomes a waiting game now as we still have three more weeks until the NFL Scouting Combine, where the top quarterbacks in Sanders and Miami’s Cam Ward might not even participate. It is going to get noisy leading up to the draft.

Deion Sanders has already spoken highly of Browns quarterbacks coach Bill Musgrave, a former teammate of his, and Sanders is an ideal scheme fit in Cleveland as they return to their wide zone identity. There are no barriers between the Browns drafting Sanders if they want to. Unless the Tennessee Titans take him first.

Jameis Winston has high praise for Cleveland as he enters free agency

Quarterback Jameis Winston is open to a return to the Cleveland Browns and praises Northeast Ohio as he gets set for NFL free agency.

Franchise superstar Myles Garrett isn’t the only Browns player on Radio Row wondering where he’ll play next season. Winston is spending Super Bowl week signed with Fox Sports as a media member. Winston has spent the week in New Orleans entertaining fans and players alike.

Winston canvassed the Chiefs and Eagles to determine where he would play next season. The two Super Bowl teams were recruiting Winston hard. Winston was flattered by the idea, but the quarterback was adamant he wanted to start next season.

A few players suggested he play in New York with the New York Giants or stay in his adopted home of New Orleans. In an interview with Kay Adams, Winston said he wants to return to Cleveland. Winston was enamored with the city. He said Cleveland was the most beautiful place for 90 days during the fall. The quarterback famously experienced all four seasons for the first time in his life in Ohio.

I want to see the gunslinger back in Cleveland. Winston didn’t get a fair shake with the Browns. The team was more concerned with tanking once their playoff chances dipped into the single digits.

Winston battled against multiple playoff teams in his limited starts. The quarterback was still plagued by interceptions, but I think the Browns were scratching the surface with Winston. I think a second year in the system would do wonders for a Browns team that needs an explosive passing attack. Winston is the cheapest option for a Browns team desperate for a quarterback.

Recently fired Browns OC lands back on his feet with new team

After being fired by the Cleveland Browns, former offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey seems to be headed to the Dallas Cowboys.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Dorsey is set to join the Cowboys under Brian Schottenheimer as an offensive analyst. This comes after being fired in back-to-back seasons by the Browns (who then promoted Tommy Rees to offensive coordinator) and the Buffalo Bills.

Last season, Dorsey handled play-calling for the struggling Browns offense, starting in Week 8 of 2024. During this time, he only had the chance to work with various backup quarterbacks that the team was forced to use after Watson’s Achilles tear. At the end of 2024, Cleveland’s offense finished last in the NFL with only 29 total offensive touchdowns.

The veteran offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach joins new Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer’s staff in his first season. Despite his various coaching roles on offense, it’s not clear what part he will play in the Cowboys’ 2025 season.

As a rookie head coach, Brian Schottenheimer is expected to rely on Dorsey’s veteran experience throughout his time in the NFL. Despite working with Josh Allen in the past, we’ll see if having a solidified quarterback in Dak Prescott makes a difference for Ken Dorsey in his fourth NFL stint.

5 Players the Browns should not re-sign in 2025

Should the Cleveland Browns let the likes of Jedrick Wills Jr. and these other four players go unsigned once NFL free agency rolls around?

The Cleveland Browns face tough decisions as they navigate a challenging 2025 offseason. With a tight salary cap and potential roster shake-ups, every dollar counts. If the team moves on from Myles Garrett, the financial situation could become even more complicated, forcing the front office to be extra cautious with contract decisions.

Some players have underperformed, while others simply don’t fit into the team’s long-term plans. Re-signing the wrong players could limit the Browns’ ability to add much-needed talent elsewhere.

Difficult roster decisions are inevitable as the team looks to stay competitive in a tough AFC North. While loyalty matters, the NFL is a business, and Cleveland must prioritize cap flexibility over familiarity. Here are five players the Browns should avoid re-signing for the 2025 season to ensure they maximize their financial resources and maintain a roster capable of making a deep playoff run.

What lessons can we learn from the Eagles' Super Bowl run?

Can the Cleveland Browns pull any sort of life lesson out of the Super Bowl run of the Philadelphia Eagles?

After all, Browns GM Andrew Berry is a protege of Howie Roseman, the Eagles got out of a bad quarterback contract by hitting later on a young guy in the NFL draft, and more. What kind of lessons can the Browns and other NFL teams pull away from the masterclass that Roseman and his team put together this season?

The guys on the Daft on Draft Podcast had the topic covered on their latest episode. From doubling down on positions of importance like the Eagles did on cornerback, to hiring a great coaching staff around the head coach, and finding a way out of the Carson Wentz fiasco, this episode explores how the Eagles got here.

This episode can be found on Apple, Spotify, and YouTube. Take a quick listen!
