Boxing v Kickboxing

I really do not wish to offend somebody by this but although I find boxing a bit more civilised and elegant a think both of these are very unnecessary sports. I have been in martial arts and I really cannot say these qualify as martial arts. I have no idea if they really do but I cannot fathom the marshal art where a fighter avoid and block the hits and kicks by absorbing them. Taking a hit is a defending technique in kick box. Low kick defence is a great example of that. When your opponent tries a low kick you lift your closer leg to the the kick and absorb it with your shin because it is better than to be kicked in quadriceps.
I really do not like that at all.

My father first introduced me to boxing when I was young.  We used to watch the fights together on TV.  It was like "our thing."  He now watches MMA as well, but there's something more classic and nostalgic about boxing with us.  My dad has a great analogy between the two.  He told me that boxing is how two gentleman fought back in the day, while MMA is how two hoodlums fight in the street.  I got a kick out of that.  I think both are extremely demanding and competitive sports. I enjoy them both, but there's nothing like seeing a man stand up and just throw punches.

Although my favorite movie series is Rocky, which is regular boxing (not quite realistic, but sure as hell entertaining to watch) I like the concept of kick-boxing. I come from a Thai descent where kick-boxing is the national sport (Muay Thai). I've always appreciated Muay Thai and the beauty of it a little more in my opinion.

I love the Rocky series of movies, too.  It's just good screenwriting and cinematography.  Plus, everyone loves underdog movies.  Muay Thai is a beautiful sport as well in my opinion.  The fluidity of movement is magical.  Plus, it seems like MMA fighters that are well skilled in the Muay Thai discipline are far superior to those that are not.

I do prefer boxing over kick boxing. Growing on a country where boxing is at a trend, I can say that boxers look professional than kick boxers. However, I deem that these two sports are unnecessary as stated above, as it inflicts pain to other opponents. I have this theory that sports should be competing with your body's limits, so you'd put it in its limits. I know boxing and kick boxing does that too, but it's just a pain to see players "punching" one another.

I prefer kick boxing as there is more action then kick boxing, some of my friends are professional MMA fighters so maybe that's why I favour kickboxing more.
