A couple of players on both sides of the AFC championship game lost some dollars through fines, the NFL announced.

According to the league, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was fined for taunting. Kelce was dinged $11,255.

He lost money for this:

But it wasn’t just the Chiefs in trouble.

Bills defensive tackle Jordan Phillips was fined $6,722 for unnecessary roughness, cited for the NFL’s policy on “use of helmet.”

In addition, Bills linebacker Matt Milano was handed an $11,255 fine for unnecessary roughness via a facemask penalty.

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has NFL history attached to his name that he’s not going to be happy about… and the same goes for the rest of western New York.

There is always debate on whether or not “wins” are a statistic for a QB. For this conversation it is and unfortunately it’s not the best look.

Allen has played 13 playoff games in his career, all with the Bills. Allen is 7-6 overall in those contests and has played rather well.

Allen has averaged 258.4 yards per game passing with 25 touchdowns and only four interceptions.

Even so, those 13 starts work against him here. Allen has the most postseason starts of any quarterback in football history without making it to a Super Bowl.

To reach this, Allen edged out three of the top playoff QBs the NFL has seen.

  • Peyton Manning: 12 starts before Super Bowl
  • Joe Flacco: 12 starts
  • Donovan McNabb: 11 starts

At least that trio showed it can still be done.

The Chiefs are onto Super Bowl 59 where they will face the Eagles for a third-straight title.

After the Chiefs beat the Bills to advance to the Super Bowl, there was plenty of reaction relating to a key fourth-down play in the fourth quarter, when the Bills led the Chiefs, 22-21.

On that play, Bills quarterback Josh Allen ended up not being given a first down on a QB sneak. Many in western New York thought he got it and the Chiefs went on to win 32-29.

FOX Sports rules analyst Dean Blandino, the former NFL senior V.P. of officiating thought so, too.

“The spot on the fourth down was close,” Blandino said. “When I watched it live, I thought it was a first down. I really did. I thought he made the big line.”

Blandino went on to note that he does not think there is a biased toward the Chiefs in the NFL… but that is how he felt about that call.

His full reaction can be found in TMZ Sports clip below:

Ryan Fitzpatrick is a beloved character in the NFL world thanks to his personality and numerous stops during his playing days.

Of all of those, he always holds the Bills in the highest regard and he showed that once again.

Following the Bills’ 32-29 loss to the Chiefs in the AFC championship game, Fitzpatrick joined the “Centered on Buffalo” podcast, who is hosted by one of his former teammates in Eric Wood.

Fitzpatrick discussed a story about how he handled the defeat the next morning. He started it off pretty direct.

“I’m so sad,” Fitzpatrick said.

Fitzpatrick’s full reaction can be found in the clip below:

The Buffalo Bills did not win the hardware the team truly desired in 2024.

Following the team’s 32-29 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC championship, that Lombardi Trophy dream has come to an end.

Even so, the Bills could end up with one big-time honor this season thanks to quarterback Josh Allen. He’s a finalist for the 2024 NFL MVP Award… along with four others.

The winner of all of this year’s football awards are set to be announced tonight, Thursday Feb. 6, at 9 p.m. during the NFL Honors ceremony. We’ll know Allen’s fate soon.

For those curious, here are the five finalists and who Allen is up against:

The Buffalo Bills could have award-winning coach on their hands.

The NFL has announced five finalists for the 2024 NFL Assistant Coach of the Year Award. Buffalo offense coordinator Joe Brady was amongst the group.

Brady, 35, completed his first full season as the offensive coordinator for the Bills. Brady’s efforts have helped Buffalo advanced all the way to the AFC championship game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The winner will be announced tonight, Thursday Feb. 6 at 9 p.m. during the NFL Awards ceremony.

Along with Brady, here are all of this year’s finalists:

Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin has been named a finalist for the 2024 NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award.

We will soon know his fate.

Hamlin is a finalist for the honor for a second-straight year. In 2023, Hamlin was assumed to be the winner but quarterback Joe Flacco was surprisingly picked.

Last season, while named a finalist, Hamlin did not make big contributions to the Bills. His nomination was linked to his return to Buffalo’s roster following his episode with cardiac arrest. That will, and should, factor in now as well… but Hamlin has continued to add to his incredible journey in 2024.

Hamlin has earned starting snaps on the Bills defense and played well. Hamlin has recorded his first-career interception this past season, too.

The winner will be announced tonight, Thursday Feb. 6 at 9 p.m. during the NFL Awards ceremony.

Here are all of the finalists for the honor in 2024:

Dion Dawkins is not being shy.

As usual.

The NFL world is about to focus on Super Bowl 59. Prior to the Big Game, the football scene was shocked with the news that Myles Garrett requested the Browns trade him this week.

While the team has to trade him to make it happen, it’s not up to Garrett, Dawkins is clearly on top of NFL news.

Asked who he would want to join him with the Bills right now from anyone in the league, Dawkins was (mostly) directly. He told Garrett to join the Bills and come win a Super Bowl.

Dawkins’ message can be found in the clip below:

Dion Dawkins gave at least one rookie their “welcome to the NFL” moment in 2024: The Dolphins’ Chop Robinson.

Robinson was a first-round pick of the Dolphins and his team’s second game of his rookie year came against the Bills… and Dawkins.

Robinson, speaking to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, noted Dawkins as the player that really showed him he’s a professional football player in Year 1.

Robinson praised Dawkins, saying his skill impressed him.

Robinson’s full comments on Dawkins can be found in the clip below:

The Bills and Josh Allen earned a title from ESPN NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky that’s going to hurt.

Following the Bills’ 32-29 loss to the Chiefs in the AFC championship game, Allen became the QB with the most playoff starts without making a Super Bowl in NFL history.

All things considered, Orlovsky’s nicknamed makes sense because of it.

“I think it’s the most haunted organization and might be the most haunted player in the history of the NFL,” he said.

For more from Orlovsky, see the attached clip below:

In playoff history, teams to score 3+ touchdowns in a turnover-free game are 140-19.

Josh Allen is the only QB with multiple such losses, and he has 3 — all against the Chiefs within the last 4 seasons. https://t.co/7uT2rRpsFW

The noise element is one of the biggest factors of home-field advantage in the NFL.

The toughest places to play around the league are also the loudest.

When the Buffalo Bills began planning their new stadium, touted as ‘New Highmark Stadium,’ they made sure to take noise into account—not just the speaker technology but also maximizing crowd noise.

This week, the team posted a video on X that shared insight into what to expect from the speaker system and noise retention at New Highmark Stadium.

According to Erik Carlson, senior project executive for the new stadium’s construction, the advanced technology of the speaker system, combined with the acoustical design, will make it “one of the loudest stadiums in the NFL.”

Josh Allen has been named the 2024 NFL MVP.

Allen won the award at the NFL Honors ceremony on Thursday and to a degree, it was surprising.

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was selected as the AFC’s first-team, All-Pro QB over Allen. In most cases, that means Jackson would be named the MVP too.

Not this time.

With Allen winning, debate ensued. Should it have been Jackson?

What’s done is done and it’s Allen’s honor. But those who did vote for and support Allen have made their reasoning for selecting Allen clear. Many believed that Allen was the “most valuable” player for his team, all things considered. That got him the votes.

A national media and NFL world reaction to Allen taking home the 2024 MVP Award can be found below:

Reminder that the statistical case for Josh Allen as MVP not only exists, it’s fairly strong if you use the most comprehensive advanced metric:

1st in EPA per play
1st in Adjusted EPA per play

Plus, Allen had team success and the Bills were the No. 1 offense in the NFL https://t.co/zTnbTwvcXe

Did Josh Allen get the first down?

You know the play. 4th & 1, early-fourth-quarter, a QB sneak at a crucial moment in the AFC championship game between the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs.

A lot of people have said yes, Allen did get the first down, and a lot of people have said no, also. One of the line judges had the ball spotted over the line to gain, and the other line judge had it marked short.

NFL on CBS commentators Tony Romo and Jim Nantz, as well as CBS rules analyst Gene Steratore, believed it was a first down. But, the ball was marked short, and there wasn’t a good enough camera angle to overturn the call on the field given the mass pile of bodies around the ball on the QB sneak.

The call marking Allen short of the sticks sent NFL fans into a frenzy. It didn’t help that the Chiefs had already been under a microscope because they benefitted from a couple of questionable calls against the Houston Texans the week prior in the divisional round.

The call by the refs that marked the Bills short has sparked not only controversy but also a reason to look into better ways of measuring first downs. Since the beginning of the NFL, it’s been a chain gang manually moving the first down markers and line judges doing their best to spot the ball where it was when the play was blown dead.

When the location of the point of the ball ultimately will decide who gets a trip to the Super Bowl, you want that spot to be as accurate as possible. Obviously, with it coming down to the eyes of an official moving laterally along the sideline, it’s easy to be off by a couple of inches.

This is where technology could come into play in the future, even as early as next season.

“The NFL will consider implementing an electronic system for measuring first downs during the 2025 season,” said Mark Maske of the Washington Post.”

The system currently under talks of potentially coming into play would involve the ball being spotted manually by officials before the electronic system determines if the spot of the ball is a first down. Some have suggested that electronic chips be placed into the balls to determine exactly where the ball was down, but that wouldn’t come into play here.

The NFL was experimenting with electronic first-down measuring in the 2024 preseason.

“Most likely we’ll continue the testing of that probably in more venues next preseason, just like we did this year,” said Walt Anderson, the NFL’s officiating rules analyst and club communications liaison, in August. “With the intent that at some point, assuming it can be tested and we get good returns on [that] testing, that we can implement that possibly for the ’25 season. That’ll end up being a decision that the competition committee addresses next spring and that [the team owners end] up entertaining for next preseason.”

As far as the testing itself went in the 2024 preseason, some of it was positive and some of it presented challenges.

“You certainly had some of them that went very smoothly,” said Anderson. “And then we had others where obviously there were some challenges. All of that is part of the learning curve. We’ll end up continuing to collect data [on] that. It’ll be a topic for the competition committee in the spring.”

The Buffalo Bills unfortunately will not be playing in Super Bowl 59.

There’s always next year.

However, there are some “Bills connections” currently employed by the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles who will be vying for a ring on Sunday. On top of that, a few local Buffalo connections can be found as well.

With that, here’s a full list of Bills connections to look for during the Big Game:

Source

The connection is clear, but despite that, the football analytical folks at Pro Football Focus are still taking that route as it relates to Calton Davis III.

Fresh off a positive season under Aaron Glenn as his defensive coordinator with the Lions, PFF suggests that Davis should follow the coach to the Jets.

Davis, an upcoming free agent, ranks as PFF’s 21st best in the entire NFL.

In 13 games played in 2024, Davis had 56 tackles, including two for loss, with two interceptions and 11 passes defended.

PFF’s breakdown on Davis to the Jets can be found below:

Before a broken jaw in Week 15 cut his season short, Davis was a standout in the Lions secondary. Through 15 weeks, his 11 forced incompletions ranked ninth in the NFL, highlighting his ability to disrupt opposing passing attacks.

Reuniting with former defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, now the Jets’ head coach, could be the perfect move for Davis. Glenn’s aggressive schemes, which often rely on press coverage, play to Davis’ strengths. He allowed only seven open targets in press situations despite playing a significant number of press snaps, showcasing his ability to thrive in a physical, one-on-one role.

Super Bowl 59: Chiefs, Eagles pending free agents to watch for the Bills

The Buffalo Bills and western New York will be watching Super Bowl 59 unfortunately.

While the team and fans take in the Big Game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles, why not put on your scouting at too? Both sides have multiple pending free agents that could be signed soon.

Here are six pending free agents from both the Chiefs and Eagles that could interest the Bills:

Bills part ways with special teams coordinator despite Sean McDermott's backing

The Buffalo Bills have decided to make a change at special teams coordinator.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the team has decided to move on from Matthew Smiley:

The #Bills parted ways with special teams coordinator Matthew Smiley, per sources. pic.twitter.com/6tLuuh19Wz

— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) February 9, 2025

The update to fire Smiley surfaced during Super Bowl 59 weekend… a bit of a news dump with the NFL world’s attention focused elsewhere.

The reason for that might be because of Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott’s commentary on Smiley at his end-of-season press conference. During that, McDermott directly said “yes” Smiley will return to the Bills in 2025.

“I’m confident that Coach Smiley is going to learn from those situations and plays that came up this year. He knows we can’t give up some of those plays that we gave up and we have to be better,” McDermott said.

What changed? We don’t know, but something certainly did.

McDermott was asked about Smiley at that presser because of the rough year the special teams unit had in 2024. At the top of the list is the difficult season kicker Tyler Bass had.

Now we wait for an update on who replaces Smiley.

Smiley first landed in Buffalo in 2017 as the team’s assistant special teams coordinator. In 2022, he was promoted to the full-time coordinator role.

Bills Wire will provide updates as information is made available.

Which 'Bills connections' just won Super Bowl 59 with the Eagles?

In what was not in very much of a very close game, the Philadelphia Eagles just beat the Kansas City Chiefs to win the NFL title at Super Bowl 59.

In a 40-22 final, the Eagles were very convincing. Philadelphia could be a force to be reckoned with moving forward.

In their efforts to win the 2025 championship, the Eagles did have some help from some “Bills connections.” Prior to the Super Bowl’s kickoff, we listed such Bills and Buffalo connections to the Eagles heading into the game.

Here’s that list of Bills and Buffalo folks who won the Super Bowl with the Eagles:
