With the conclusion of the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis over the weekend, the offseason is just days away from kicking into full swing. While free agency might come first in the NFL, most general managers will tell you that the best approach to a successful process is to take the best player available. For Ryan Poles and the Chicago Bears, they have plenty of important decisions to make before the draft, but without being able to project them all, we’ll do our best to balance need with a best-player-available mindset.

With that, let’s dive into my first mock draft of the 2026 draft season! Please note that this will be without any projected trades.

Round 1 (#25) DT Peter Woods (Clemson)

The Bears not picking in the Top 10? What are we all going to do with ourselves for that extra hour and a half or so’s worth of time! The good news for Poles is that their current needs line up pretty well with how the board should shake out over the first few rounds of the draft. Between free agency and the draft, there needs to be a heavy focus on the defensive side of the ball. While most fans might view edge rusher as the bigger need, defensive tackle is devoid of almost any real pass-rushing presence.

Sure, Dennis Allen and Matt Eberflus run 4-3 base fronts, but outside of that, their defensive philosophies aren’t all that similar. That’s why, for the most part, the defense struggled to keep its head above water when it wasn’t forcing an unbelievable amount of takeaways. Allen’s defense is predicated on the pressure he’s able to force along the defensive line, and while the creative blitzes are fun, the interior of his defensive line is where he prefers to crush the pocket.

Enter Woods, who, for most teams, will be a little too small and not long enough. For Allen, though, he might be the perfect mixture of tools and size. Coming into 2025, many had Woods as a Top 5 prospect in this class. After an underwhelming final season at Clemson and less-than-ideal measurements at the combine, his stock appears to be in limbo. For me, this is a best-case scenario at 25. It’s also worth noting that he’s at his best when he’s playing under 300 pounds, which is almost a “must-have” for Allen at three technique in this defense.

Round 2 (#57) S A.J. Haulcy (LSU)

If the defensive line is the team’s biggest need heading into the offseason, safety can’t fall too far behind that. As of now, the team has just one player under contract at the position, and none of their four players from 2025 are under contract. With Jaquan Brisker and at least one of Johnathan Owens or Elijah Hicks likely to leave in free agency, the Bears will need to fill at least one of their starting safety spots, pending the final result of their negotiations with veteran Kevin Byard.

The good news (once again) is that this class is loaded at the top. Although I wouldn’t completely rule out one of Dillon Thieneman or Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at 25, positional value might win out if it comes down between one of those two safeties or a guy like Woods. Thankfully, this class has plenty of top-end depth, and even if they choose to wait until Day 2 to address this need, they’ll still have some options.

Haulcy, to me, is a perfect fit for what Allen is looking to do at the position. He’s a well-built guy who tested reality well at the combine when it came to speed. His versatility to play as a center fielder or closer to the line of scrimmage should eventually give Allen the ability to mix up coverages more and split safety responsibilities more evenly. There are plenty of quality options, and defensive end and linebacker are two other positional groups that I could see as targets here. Still, for now, I’m going to go with one of my favorite Day 2 prospects in Haulcy.

Round 3 (#89) DE Anthony Lucas (USC)

As we continue down the list of needs for the Bears, we arrive at the defensive end position. Ideally, they would be able to take one earlier, but I’m also going to assume that they’ll find a way to sign at least a mid-level free agent next week when the madness of the offseason kicks off. Linebacker was another serious consideration here, but as we’ve learned based on history, it’s easier to find a starting caliber linebacker in Day 3 than it is to find a quality pass rusher.

With Lucas, the Bears are getting a big, stout defensive end that fits the Allen mold. He passes the length threshold with ease, and although he was just 256 at the combine, he played bigger at USC. In typical Allen fashion, Lucas isn’t an overly explosive player, but he sets the edge well and can move inside on pass-rushing downs. He’ll need to refine his set of pass-rushing moves, but this is exactly the type of player who has enough of a ceiling where you’d feel good about coming away with him at the end of the third round.

Round 4 (#129) LB Kyle Louis (Pittsburgh)

Louis might not be the most physically imposing linebacker in this class, but his mixture of good athleticism and instincts makes him one of the better values the Bears are likely to find on Day 3. His 9.10 RAS was a perfect snapshot of what a team like Chicago would be getting in the Pitt product in terms of athleticism.

He’s a decisive player who can hang in coverage and support in the run game. Over the last two seasons, he tallied 24 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, and six interceptions. He’s exactly the type of young playmaker the Bears are yearning for in the second level of their defense. His lack of size might knock him down some draft boards, but this is exactly the type of player that warrants a gamble in the fourth round. If all goes well, he could be a quality rookie contributor in Year 1.

Round 5 (#163) OT Aamil Wagner (Notre Dame)

The Bears find themselves in a tough spot at left tackle heading into the offseason, with last year’s second-round pick Ozzy Trapilo expected to miss the majority of the 2026 regular season as he recovers from a ruptured patellar tendon. While some might view left tackle as a bigger need for this team heading into the draft, my best guess is that they’d rather roll with a proven veteran for the season, rather than trying to develop yet another rookie.

That said, don’t be surprised to see them take another low-cost swing to add depth to this group. Finding starting caliber tackles this late in the draft can be tough. Still, the Bears only need to look as far as their own division with the Green Bay Packers to see how teams can successfully develop Day 3 tackles into above-average starters. With offensive line coach Dan Roushar at the helm, this is exactly the type of swing they should be taking.

Wagner is an underrated player who tested well and meets the common length thresholds for a modern-day NFL tackle. He was a two-year starter at Notre Dame, but took all of his snaps at right tackle. His athletic profile gives him a comfortable ceiling, while his leadership skills and overall on-the-field intelligence also give him a safe floor. This late in the draft, you’re looking for contributors who can develop, and Wagner is the exact type of player who can develop into a swing tackle with some starting upside either at tackle or inside at guard. With their developmental pipeline in the trenches severely lacking, taking an offensive lineman on Day 3 could be classified as a “need”.

Round 7 (#240) WR J. Michael Sturdivant (Florida)

Admittedly, this is the part of the draft where I’m relying on projections and seven-round mock drafts to get a sense of who could be available this late in the draft. While I’ll take a look at the players and form my opinions based on that, I’ll be the first to admit that I’m ignorant of how realistic some of these names are this late in the game.

That said, I believe that at some point, the Bears are going to take a swing at a speedier receiver who can eventually develop into a role player. Sturdivant fits that mold, even if his athletic testing was far superior to anything he produced in college. While his RAS 9.96 RAS sticks out as much as his 4.4 40-time, this is more of a traits projection rather than anything he’s done on the field in recent vintage. Head coach Ben Johnson brought wide receiver coach Antwan Randle-El over with him for a reason, and getting the most out of project players like Sturdivant would be one of them. One way or another, I would expect Johnson to target more speed on the offensive side of the ball.

Round 7 (#242) RB Desmond Reid (Pittsburgh)

Speaking of speed… and just flat out fun, how about Tarik Coen 2.0 to close out the draft? Reid is one of those players you watch, and he just screams, “I want this guy on my football team, no matter how long (or short) it lasts.”

We can all remember the blast that Coen was, and in many ways, Reid shows a lot of the same traits, both good and bad. Standing at just 5’6 and weighing in at 174 pounds, the size comparisons to players like Coen and Darren Sproles are also apparent. While Reid may never be a full-time player, he has good hands out of the backfield and brings a true “change of pace” to any backfield. He averaged 140 scrimmage yards per game in 2024 and brings some special teams value as a returner. Sound familiar? Sign me up.

Silver and Black Pride accepts Bears’ (WCG’s) offer for Maxx Crosby

Last week, we shared with you an exercise that Silver and Black Pride, SB Nation’s Las Vegas Raiders site, was doing regarding Maxx Crosby. They asked for websites from the other NFL teams to submit offers for Crosby, and they would pick the best one.

If you would like to see all the offers that were submitted, you can check out their article summarizing all the offers here.

The writer, Bill Williamson, admits that he doesn’t particularly love any of the offers that they received. They received 6 total offers, our offer had been floated around previously: the Bears 2026 first, the Bears 2027 third, and WR DJ Moore.

After parsing through the offers, Williamson felt that Windy City Gridiron’s offer was the best, but he certainly wasn’t enthusiastic about it.

Williamson wrote: “If you’re going to play with Crosby in 2026, you’re going to need some immediate firepower. I get that the 2027 draft is considered better overall than this year, and the Raiders are in a rebuild, so later picks will be of value. Still, we want more now. To be honest, I don’t see the Raiders agreeing to any of these deals. So, I’m not either. If Crosby pushes the matter and forces a deal, I think I like Windy City Gridiron’s offer the best.”

I think how this played out may be similar to how it plays out in real life. No, I am not saying that Crosby will be a Bear, but I am saying, I think it’s definitely possible that the Raiders don’t receive an offer they want to accept, and the only reason they do is if Crosby forces their hand and tells them he 100% wants out.

Many insiders think that if Crosby is moved, it will be before the new league year, so this next week should certainly be interesting.

DJ Moore trade market could be heating up for the Bears

gettyimages-2264396048.jpg

There was plenty of buzz around the Chicago Bears after last season’s NFC North title and playoff win, and that buzz hasn’t cooled down a bit this offseason. With the NFL Combine and draft, the trade rumors, free agency, the stadium saga, and the retirement of Drew Dalman, it seems like a new Bears nugget pops up every day.

Wide receiver DJ Moore has been at the center of a lot of the trade discussion, and with the start of free agency and the league year one week away, we’re likely to get a resolution in the coming days.

CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones mentioned Moore in his latest notebook.

One Bears player plenty around the league are keeping an eye on is wide receiver D.J. Moore. The former first-round pick is coming off his least productive year of his career. The Patriots could be a landing spot for Moore if the Bears do a deal involving the receiver, or he could be part of a hypothetical package that goes to a needy Las Vegas team in a deal for Crosby.

My understanding is that Moore’s reputation around the league is pretty high, and while Bears fans have DJ’s final route and playoff loss fresh in their minds, he’s also thought of highly in their own locker room. Moving on from Moore would be a financial thing for the Bears rather than a talent thing.

Last week, the Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs reported that the Bears could get a day two pick for Moore, albeit they may need to get creative with his salary and pay some of that to necessitate a deal.

Earlier today, Biggs again discussed a possible Moore trade, saying that whatever they would save in cap space would have an immediate plan in place to utilize. He also said that “chances are better than not that he’s probably traded.”

It seems like the draft pick compensation in a trade would be tied to how much, if any, of the salary the Bears would eat.

What are your thoughts on a DJ Moore trade? Do you think it’s a foregone conclusion? What would you expect the Bears to get in return?

Report: It’s ‘70-30’ that Kevin Byard III will return to the Chicago Bears

I missed this report yesterday from ESPN’s David Kaplan — h/t to Luis C. Medina from Bleacher Nation Bears — regarding Chicago Bears safety Kevin Byard III, and the odds on him returning to Chicago.

“I was told by somebody who would know, that he is 70-30 that he is going to be a Bear,” Kaplan said yesterday morning via his Coffee with Kap segment on social media channels. “They’re working on it, they’re trying to get a deal done that’s fair for both sides.”

After the season it was assumed that the 32 year old Byard would re-sign with the Bears, but then his market picked up. We started to hear a few other teams were interested in the All Pro, the Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs said Byard could command north of $10 million, and suddennly it wasn’t a foregone conclusion he’d be back.

Perhaps the strong showing from the safety class at the NFL Combine has teams rethinking their free agency safety budget.

Kap goes on to suggest the Bears could be a team looking to paid Byard up with a rookie safety, which would mean Jaquan Brisker would be elsewhere in 2026.

What are your thoughts on Kap’s report? Would you like a Byard-rookie pairing for the Bears in 2026?

Why Tyler Linderbaum is the Perfect Answer for the Chicago Bears at Center

gettyimages-2253432494.jpg

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND - DECEMBER 21: Tyler Linderbaum #64 of the Baltimore Ravens lines up before a play during an NFL football game against the New England Patriots at M&T Bank Stadium on December 21, 2025 in Baltimore, Maryland. (Photo by Kevin Sabitus/Getty Images) | Getty Images

Hello, Chicago Bears fans! Well, that was a punch in the gut, wasn’t it? We were all shocked as news leaked on Tuesday that Drew Dallman, the Bears’ 27-year-old center, was retiring from the NFL. Dalman, who signed a three-year, $42 million deal with the Bears last offseason after four years in Atlanta, was a Pro Bowl anchor in 2025, starting all 17 games and playing every offensive snap. His decision to walk away from the game opened up a massive hole in the offensive line interior and upended the offseason plans for a Bears team that needs to remake its starting groups on the defensive line, at linebacker, and safety. However, it also freed up anywhere from 10 million to 14 million dollars of cap space, depending on if the Bears choose to claw back some of the bonus that was due Dallman in the wake of his sudden retirement. With a 2026 draft class at center that is bereft of first round talent at the center position (although do go check out Josh’s article examining some intriguing center prospects in the draft this year), the Bears will likely look to fill this hole in free agency.

The Bears have already hosted former Washington Commanders offensive center Tyler Biadasz. Conner McGovern, the 28-year-old free agent center from the Bills, is another possibility, as he is expected to test free agency this offseason. However, last year the Chicago Bears signed the top offensive center available in free agency when they signed Drew Dalman to a three-year contract. I think they just might do so again. Enter Tyler Linderbaum, the 25-year-old three-time Pro Bowler from the Baltimore Ravens, who is poised to hit unrestricted free agency after the Ravens declined his $23.4 million fifth-year option last spring. Negotiations for an extension in Baltimore have stalled despite a “market-setting” offer (projected around $20 million AAV). One of the best offensive centers in the league, Tyler Linderbaum, is going to be a free agent and available to sign with any team next week. And given the importance that Ben Johnson clearly assigns to the position, and the need for an experienced center to pair with a young quarterback, like Caleb Williams, I think he will be their top target to sign once free agency opens. However, it won’t be easy. Many teams will be in on Tyler Linderbaum, including the New York Giants, where his former head coach with the Ravens has landed, and with the Ravens themselves, his current team, who will be in the mix to resign Linderbaum. That said, the Bears are in a position to make a competitive offer for the 26-year-old former first-round pick. Let’s take a look at what he brings to the table and how we might make a contract with him work in the team’s cap structure.

Why Tyler Linderbaum Fits the Bears Perfectly

Linderbaum, a 2022 first-round pick out of Iowa, has been one of the NFL’s elite centers since his rookie year. He’s excelled in both pass protection (allowing just 1 sack in 2025) and run blocking, with PFF grades consistently above 85.0. The Bears’ offense, already featuring young stars like Caleb Williams at QB and a solid tackle duo in Braxton Jones and Darnell Wright, would benefit from his athleticism and quickness in zone-blocking schemes. This signing addresses the post-Dalman gap immediately, providing stability for Williams’ development and boosting the run game. Linderbaum is in fact a clear upgrade over Drew Dalman at the position.

At 25 years-old (turning 26 in April), Linderbaum aligns with the Bears’ youth movement. He’s durable (missing only two starts in four years) and could anchor the line for the next 5-7 seasons, especially as the team pushes for playoff contention in a competitive NFC North. Linderbaum’s work ethic and leadership (he’s been a Ravens captain) mesh with head coach Ben Johnson’s emphasis on toughness and accountability. Plus, his Midwestern roots (Iowa native) could make Chicago an appealing destination, given the proximity of Chicago to his hometown.

And Linderbaum is truly an elite player at the center position. Tyler Linderbaum has elite athleticism and quickness (short but explosive; excels at climbing to the second level in zone/power schemes). Like Dalman, he is a dominant run blocker, the kind of “tone-setting” mauler that Ben Johnson craves on the interior of the offensive line. He exhibits strong physicality and body control at the point of attack in the run game. Further, Linderbaum has been lauded for his high football IQ and leadership (three-time Pro Bowler since 2022 draft). However, his pass protection has been inconsistent. His shorter arms (31⅛ inches) can show in one-on-one matchups, leading to higher pressure rates in 2025.

Some aspects of Linderbaum’s game that stand out on the tape: He uses a wide, sturdy base to absorb bull rushes and maintain his anchor. His ability to “forklift” defenders upward once he gets his hands inside, creating leverage by getting under their pads and driving them back, is evident on film. This helps him stall power rushers and prevent easy collapses into the pocket. Linderbaum is technically sound with initial hand strikes—he aims to land precise, violent punches to control the defender’s chest or shoulders, disrupting their rush path early in the moment of the play. He is able to mirror rushers effectively with his short-area quickness, using deliberate, powerful steps to stay square. He shows outstanding hip fluidity in mirroring inside moves or twists/stunts. He’s particularly effective picking up twists (e.g., in combo protections) and adjusting to delayed blitzers, thanks to his quick feet and elite-level processing. He does sometimes struggle with longer, explosive interior rushers that seek to penetrate through the gap. You see instances where defensive tackles or a blitzing linebacker is able to get under his pads and turn him aside, or even bullrush him. He does occasionally mistime his punch or strikes, allowing defenders to win with leverage.

His PFF overall grade for 2026, in what some viewed as a down year for Linderbaum, was 80.3 (5th/40 centers). His run block grade was 83.7 (4th/40), but his pass block grade took a hit in 2026, at 63.4 (22nd/40). He gave up 26th pressures in 2025, a career high for Linderbaum (and not the kind of career high you’re looking for), and had a 5.2% pressure rate allowed. He was credited with allowing 2 sacks last season, but only one QB hit. He was called for five penalties – mostly holding in the run game. Even in a down year relative to his past performance, Linderbaum’s pass grade was similar to Drew Dalman, who posted a 69.0 grade for the 2026 season. And that was a Pro Bowl season for Dalman. Tyler Linderbaum is unquestionably, from a pure football standpoint, the best replacement for Drew Dalman at the center position for the Chicago Bears. Truly elite offensive lineman, particularly as young as Linderbaum is, rarely become available in free agency. The Bears have a chance to take advantage of this rare occurrence and turn the Dalman deficit into a Linder-boom.

What would it take to sign Tyler Linderbaum?

But the rubber meets the road in crafting a contract that will reward Linderbaum as the highest paid center in the NFL and still fit that in the Bears cap structure. As I’ve already noted, Linderbaum has turned down a contract roughly in the 20 million AAV range with the Ravens, although the exact specifics of that offer are not known. So what contract could we reasonably project the Bears to sign Linderbaum to in free agency? In this scenario, our Bears outbid the Ravens and other interested teams (e.g., the Giants) with a four-year, $82 million deal ($20.5 million AAV), including $45 million guaranteed and a $20 million signing bonus. This makes him the highest-paid center, surpassing Creed Humphrey’s $18 million AAV benchmark. The contract will have a 2026 cap hit of around $12-15 million (via void years or bonus proration).

Fitting a Linderbaum Contract into the Bears’ Cap

The 2026 NFL salary cap is set at $301.2 million, a record high but still a challenge for the Bears, who entered the offseason with roughly -$5.3 million in effective cap space (per OverTheCap estimates). After Dalman’s retirement, however, the Bears now have room under the cap before we make any cap-related moves (approximately $7.5 million). But to sign Linderbaum, and still make the other moves the Bears need to make this offseason, GM Ryan Poles would need to create roughly $60-70 million in space—entirely feasible through restructures, cuts, and extensions. Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of potential maneuvers, based on current contracts:

Restructured Contracts
Montez Sweat (DE)
+$18.5 million
Convert base salary to bonus dropping the $25 million cap hit
Trades
DJ Moore (WR)
+$16.5 million
A trade before June 1 would result in $12 million dead cap against his total $28.5 million total 2026 cap hit
Tremain Edmunds (LB)
+$15.0 million
A trade before June 1 would result in roughly $2.5 million in dead money
Restructure Contract with Extension
Jaylon Johnson (CB)
+$8.0 million
A small extension for JJ lowers his 2026 cap hit
Dalman Retirement
Drew Dalman (OC)
+$13.0 million
Dalman’s retirement takes his 2026 contract off the books and the Bears recover most of his unearned bonus

Total Projected Space Created: $71 million.

This would still leave the Bears with roughly $50 million in 2026 cap space after adding Linderbaum’s $15 million 2026 cap hit. Even in a scenario where the Bears have to go to $23 or $24 million AAV, Poles could shift that money into the back end of the contract, with the Bears expecting to come out from under the contracts of Grady Jarrett and Dayo Odeyingbo in 2027.

What do you think, Chicago Bears fans? Should the Chicago Bears bet big on Tyler Linderbaum as the replacement for Drew Dalman at offensive center? Do these cap moves look reasonable, and will it permit the Bears to make all of the moves they must make this offseason as they seek to make over their defense? Tell us in the comments below!

Chicago Bears Trade for Center Garett Bradbury

The Chicago Bears have addressed their vacancy at Center. Albeit not with a name most people were expecting.

Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Bears have reached an agreement with the New England Patriots for veteran center Garrett Bradbury. The reported cost is for a 2027 5th-round pick. This deal cannot be made official until the beginning of the new league year.

Sources: The #Patriots are trading center Garrett Bradbury to the #Bears, giving them new center. The deal can't officially be processed until the league year begins.

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 6, 2026

With free agency set to kick off in less than a week, we have witnessed an early start to the Bears’ retooling of their offensive line for the second straight year. In all, Garrett Bradbury (30) has started all 105 career games he has been able to make an appearance in since being drafted 18th overall by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2019 NFL Draft. So, at a minimum, he will be bringing with him experience as a backup option.

It remains to be seen whether or not this takes the Bears out of the sweepstakes for players such as Tyler Linderbaum or Connor McGovern.

Report: All-Pro Maxx Crosby traded to the Baltimore Ravens

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Baltimore Ravens have acquired All-Pro defensive end Maxx Crosby in a blockbuster deal with the Las Vegas Raiders. The Ravens are sending a 2026 first-round draft pick and a 2027 first-rounder.

We heard earlier today that the Chicago Bears would not be involved in serious trade talks for Crosby if Las Vegas held firm on their desire to get two firsts back. With the Ravens 2026 first-rounder being 14th overall, that was way more enticing than Chicago’s number 25 anyway, so even if the Bears had offered two ones, they would have had to sweeten the pot even more.

I’m completely good with the Bears keeping the draft picks, but it would have been fun having Crosby in the Windy City.

Since entering the league in 2019, he has been one of the premier edge players in the entire league. This includes registering 69.5 sacks, 133 tackles for loss, and a whopping 164 registered QB hits. The 5-time Pro Bowler and 3-time All-Pro defender adds serious firepower to a Ravens team looking to bounce back from last year’s (8-9) record.

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported that the Ravens and the Dallas Cowboys were in talks with the Raiders for days. She also reported that the Jacksonville Jaguars were trying to put a package together for Crosby.

So perhaps the Bears were never in serious contention afterall.

Despite leading the league in takeaways, Chicago’s defense finished in the bottom half of the league in most pass-rush-related statistical categories, so they’ll keep to land some d-line help at some point.

Are you good with the Bears losing out on Crosby?

Where do you think they turn for pass rush help now?

NFL Free Agency 2026: Connecting some Chicago Bears dots

gettyimages-2253027723.jpg

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA - DECEMBER 21: Cameron Jordan #94 reacts after a sack against the New York Jets in the second quarter of a game at Caesars Superdome on December 21, 2025 in New Orleans, Louisiana. (Photo by Sean Gardner/Getty Images) | Getty Images

For all intents and purposes, NFL free agency starts on Monday, when the early negotiation window opens. But if we’re really being honest, there have already been initial inquiries made between teams and agents through various channels for weeks, if not months, because once that window is cracked (11:01 am CT), the league insiders will unload their reports they’ve had saved in their drafts.

The Chicago Bears are coached by a former Lion, the defense is run by a former Saint, and there are also former Jaguars, Cowboys, and Dolphins on staff, plus the GM came from K.C. That’s just naming a handful of obvious connections they have around the league.

Looking at the needs the Bears currently have and the free agents looking for a place to play in 2026, a few have ties to Chicago’s current regime. And yes, most of these are on the back nine of their career, but the Bears need to fill roster spots with some vets while they draft and develop.

Cameron Jordan, DE – The longtime New Orleans Saints defensive end will be 37 in July, but he can still get it done. He had 10.5 sacks last season on a 6-win team, and Pro Football Focus gave him an overall grade of 76, which was 24th among EDGEs. He knows he’s nearing the end, which is why his last two years, he’s only in on about 50% of the snaps on D. A similar part-time role in Chicago while he tries for a ring could be a nice way to close out a career.

Taylor Decker, LT – Head coach Ben Johnson knows him well from their time together with the Detroit Lions, and while the soon-to-be 33-year-old wouldn’t be the long-term answer at left tackle, he’d give the Bears a serviceable stopgap until they can reassess Ozzy Trapilo.

Alonte Taylor, CB – While Taylor is known for playing nickel with the Saints, he has played outside and even lined up like a safety at times. His versatility is a plus for helping disguise coverages, and pairing him with another versatile corner who can play slot, outside, or safety (Kyler Gordon) could be fun.

Alex Anzelone, LB – Not only did Anzelone cross paths with Johnson in Detroit, but he started his career in New Orleans with Dennis Allen as his defensive coordinator.

Demario Davis, LB – Another veteran defender with ties to Allen is the 37-year-old Davis, who is coming off a career high 143 tackles with the Saints. Even after 14 years in the NFL, he’s still playing at a high level, and PFF had him as their 6th highest graded linebacker.

Alec Ingold, FB – The Bears didn’t have a fullback on the roster last year, but they would often line one of their tight ends up in the backfield. Ingold can line up on the wing, go in motion, wham block a defender, and play in the third phase. He was a cap casualty by the Dolphins, where he spent four years being coached by current Bears’ running backs coach Eric Studesville.

imagn-16476487.jpg

Khalil Mack, DE – Yes, another player in his 30s (Mack just turned 35), but he’s a complete defensive end who can set the edge and play in Allen’s scheme. Which he already did as a rookie when he was drafted by the Raiders and their head coach at the time, Dennis Allen. I think Mack would benefit from a reduced role à la the aforementioned Cam Jordan. If Mack could get his snap count around 50%, you could save him and deploy him on critical drives during the game.

It depends on the money they’re after, but I’d love the idea of Mack and Jordan to pair with Montez Sweat and Austin Booker in 2026. Last year’s second-round pick, Shemar Turner, can give some inside-outside flexibility, and then, if the NFL Draft falls just right, maybe you draft an EDGE, and now you have a solid rotation at defensive end to keep everyone fresh.

Are there any free agents with connections to the Bears that you’d like to see them sign?

Revisiting the Bears 2025 Draft: Most / Least Favorite Selections

You would be hard-pressed to find a better and more loyal fanbase out there in the wide world of sport than that of the Chicago Bears. It is far more rare, however, to find a Bears fan that is accustomed to success when it comes to the NFL Draft. The 2025 NFL Draft was one for the ages in Chicago. The type of draft that serves as a foundation for long-term success of a franchise. That said, I was curious to find out which picks were most liked and least liked by the fan base with which I affiliate. Over the last few weeks, I ran a poll for each pick asking if Ryan Poles made the right selection and gave a few alternative options. Here are the results after more than two thousand votes.

Ranked in order of greatest to least:

Kyle Monangai – 96%

Colston Loveland – 92%

Luther Burden III – 90%

Ozzy Trapilo – 75%

Zah Frazier – 34%

Shemar Turner – 11%

Ruben Hyppolite II- 11%

gettyimages-2236279655.jpg

*To clarify, these results were the percentage of votes made for each player selected compared to alternative options at that exact draft slot.

While I am certain that I speak for every Bears fan when I say that we all hope Ruben Hyppolite II makes us a believer, we must shout out to #25, Kyle Monangai for being the favorite draft pick of the illustrious 2025 draft class. After finishing 8th all time in franchise history with 783 rush yards as a rookie, it seems like we’ll be seeing many more #25 jerseys at Soldier Field in the years to come. Hopefully plenty of these as well:

Report: Chicago Bears re-sign Daniel Hardy

gettyimages-2255757460.jpg

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - JANUARY 10: Daniel Hardy #92 of the Chicago Bears celebrates on the field after an NFL wild card playoff football game against the Green Bay Packers at Solider Field on January 10, 2026 in Chicago, Illinois. (Photo by Todd Rosenberg/Getty Images) | Getty Images

According to Over The Cap, the Chicago Bears have re-signed restricted free agent Daniel Hardy to a two-year deal worth $4.97 million, with $2.45 million guaranteed at signing. His contract includes a $1.225 million signing bonus, and he can also earn an additional $1.0 million through performance incentives and salary escalators.

His cap hit in 2026 will be $2.45 million.

Last year, Hardy gave the Bears some positional flexibility by being able to play some linebacker and defensive end (and a few reps at fullback), but it’s his special teams play that shines. For the second year in a row, the 27-year-old Hardy led the Bears in special teams tackles. In 2024, he tied for the team lead with 11, while adding a forced fumble and a block, and last season he had 19 tackles.

Hardy, a seventh-round pick of the Rams in 2022, was on Chicago’s practice squad all of 2023 before making the 53-man roster the following season. In the last two years, he has played in all 34 games for the Bears, while appearing in around 80% of their snaps in the third phase.

What are your thoughts on the Bears bringing Hardy back?

Chicago Bears Re-sign LT Braxton Jones to 1-Year Deal

gettyimages-2185834179.jpg

The Chicago Bears have found their left tackle. It also happens to be the same left tackle they started the 2025 regular season with.

Per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN the Bears are re-signing veteran tackle Braxton Jones to a 1-year $10M deal. The structure is a $5M base salary with an additional $5M in incentives.

Left tackle Braxton Jones back to the Bears on a one-year deal worth up to $10M, per source.

Chicago has its starting option at left tackle. @Murphy_McGuire from @OctagonFootball on the deal. pic.twitter.com/JxYFXyqmKP

— Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN) March 9, 2026

This will mark the first true surprise of the Bears’ offseason. While Braxton Jones has been serviceable in the past, he did not look like the same player when coming off his severe ankle injury. Eventually, he was replaced by Theo Benedet, who was then replaced by Ozzy Trapilo.

Braxton went on injured reserve in October, before being activated off IR in January for the Divisional playoff game, but he wasn’t ready to dress in the game.

The hope is now he’s 100% recovered and ready to hold down the fort while Ozzy recovers from his own injury.

That being said, it’s potentially a win/win for both sides. If Braxton Jones plays well, the Bears obviously benefit from keeping a seasoned vet to protect Caleb Williams’ blindside. Additionally, Braxton would see a sizeable chance at a big payday in free agency during the 2027 offseason. This signing does not prevent the Bears from seeking competition at left tackle, either. Particularly with the recent release of Taylor Decker, which was made official a couple of hours ago.

As it stands, the current projected lineup for the Bears’ offensive line is as follows.

LT – Braxton Jones

LG – Joe Thuney

C – Garrett Bradbury

RG – Jonah Jackson

RT – Darnell Wright

Again, there is plenty of free agency left, along with the annual draft to see potential competition brought in. So we shall see if the Bears have another move or two planned thanks to their sound cap management thus far.

Report: Chicago Bears to sign Kentavius Street

gettyimages-2190858425.jpg

LAS VEGAS, NV - DECEMBER 16: Kentavius Street #93 of the Atlanta Falcons warms up prior to an NFL football game against the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium on December 16, 2024 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Cooper Neill/Getty Images) | Getty Images

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Chicago Bears plan to sign veteran defensive tackle Kentavius Street.

Street (6’2”, 315) was originally a fourth-round draft pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2018. He signed a one-year contract with the New Orleans Saints in 2022, which is where he crossed paths with current Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, who was the Saints’ head coach at the time. Street started all 17 games in New Orleans with a career high 29 tackles and 3.5 sacks.

He moved on to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023 on a one-year deal and was traded to the Atlanta Falcons midseason. The Falcons re-signed him in 2024, but he was cut before the 2025 season. He immediately returned to their practice squad before being signed to their 53-man roster in November. In all, the soon-to-be 30-year-old has played in 85 games with 10 starts while racking up 10.5 sacks. In his 7 games last season, he had 21 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and 2 sacks in 216 snaps on defense.

Terms of the contract have yet to be revealed, but I can’t imagine it’ll be for much more than the league minimum. This is a signing for depth to push for a roster spot, so nothing to get too worked up over.

Bears sign former Browns OT Jedrick Wills Jr. to one-year deal

The Chicago Bears are signing former Cleveland Browns offensive tackle Jedrick Wills Jr. to a one-year deal, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Wednesday.

Wills, who turns 27 in May, was a first-round pick out of Alabama in 2020. He spent the 2025 season out of football recovering from a knee injury. In his five seasons with the Browns, he played in 58 games, starting 57 of them.

Availability was an issue for the talented Wills, as he missed a combined 21 games from 2023 to 2024. However, he showed enough before the injuries to get his fifth-year option picked up by the Browns heading into the 2023 season. During his last season eligible for grading in 2023, Wills was the No. 35 offensive tackle in the NFL in PFSN’s OL Impact Scoring at 74.9, making him out as an average starting tackle. He finished at No. 27 at his position in 2022.

Over the course of his time in the NFL, Wills has taken all of his snaps as a left tackle. However, he spent time as a right tackle in college for the Crimson Tide, so he projects as having swing tackle potential.

Chicago will be without incumbent starting left tackle Ozzy Trapilo for much of 2026 due to a torn Patellar tendon he suffered in the team’s Wild Card game against the Packers. The Bears re-signed Braxton Jones to a one-year deal, and they still have Theo Benedet and Kiran Amegadjie on the roster. Bringing Wills into the mix on a one-year deal gives them a low-risk, high-reward signing to compete for a starting job coming off an injury.

Bears Free Agency Winners and Losers: Did Dennis Allen get enough?

As it stands right now, the early part of the Chicago Bears’ 2026 free agency period will be remembered as kind of bland. Through the first few days, no huge trades, no massive contracts handed out, no big surprises. But what the Bears have done so far is add players at positions of need, which helps shape their draft board.

Plus, there’s still time to sign a player or two, and it’s still possible they make a trade.

It’s not like free agency is over!

While there haven’t been any big Bears’ slpashes, the FanDuel Sportsbook odds for them to win the NFC North have moved to +340 from +400 before free agency opened up. Chicago’s odds to win the NFC are +1300 after being +1500 on Monday. And their Super Bowl odds are now +2500 after being +2700 before they made any free agency moves.

I wonder what Maxx Crosby to the Windy City would do to these odds?

Anyway, here are my Bears’ winners and losers of the first few days of free agency.

Winners

The Quarterback Room: Case Keenum returning on a two-year contract for more money is a great deal for him, and keeping a veteran player as a mentor in the room is good for the two young quarterbacks ahead of him on the depth chart. There was a small buzz about the Bears taking calls on Tyson Bagent, but nothing materialized, so keeping him in the system another year is good for the room in 2026.

Braxton Jones: The 2025 season was supposed to be Jones’ contract year, where he could cash in on four years of starting at left tackle, but a late 2024 broken ankle took away his offseason. He made it back for training camp but was never fully recovered. He gave his all, but was clearly laboring, and was benched. Another injury a few weeks later, and he was back on IR. He’ll now have a chance to win the left tackle job and show the league he’s healthy and worthy of a long-term deal in 2027, while earning up to $10 million.

D’Andre Swift: I never got the rumors about the Bears targeting a free agent running back to replace Swift. He had a productive 2025, and cutting him to spend the same (or more) would have been silly. So far, it seems the Bears are content rolling with Swift in his contract year. And considering he just turned 27, he may be able to cash in one more time in free agency next offseason.

Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen: There’s still some work to be done defensively, but considering the holes on the Bears’ defense, the early wave of free agency helped that side of the ball the most. He has more speed at all three levels, which was a must. But again, there’s more work to do.

Losers

Chicago’s 2025 Starting Safeties: Kevin Byard III signed a one-year deal with the New England Patriots, which is a good fit and good money for him, but it seems like he may have left some money on the table by not accepting the Bears’ offer earlier. We’ll never know what deal the Bears had for him, but rumors were that Chicago was offering him a raise over his $8.5M salary, but he wanted to explore all options.

Jaquan Brisker bounced back after an injury-plagued 2024, and he started all 17 games in 2025, but thus far, his market hasn’t materialized. There were projections thrown around north of $10M a season on a multi-year deal, but he may not get that.

Kiran Amegadjie: With Braxton back and the addition of former first-round draft pick Jedrick Wills Jr., Kiran’s path to a roster spot is becoming less likely.

Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen: Yep… he’s here too. Even though five of their seven free agents are on defense, the work they still have to do is to find a pass rusher (or more). Until the Bears can find a guy(s) to do that, the defense will be incomplete, and Allen will be forced to creatively get after the quarterback.

Who are your early winners and losers of free agency?
