NFLPA report cards leaked, Dolphins rank first again

For the third year running, the Miami Dolphins have been ranked first overall by the NFL Players Association.

Each year, the NFLPA conducts an anonymous survey where players vote on working conditions for each NFL franchise. Categories include nutrition, training room, family support, and more. According to the survey, the Dolphins were once again ranked as the best overall franchise to play for in the NFL.

It’s worth nothing that the NFL recently won a grievance case that blocked these report cards from being publicized, but ESPN’s Kalyn Kahler managed to obtain the official results. For more details into last year’s rankings and all 11 categories, take a look on the NFLPA’s official website.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) February 13, 2026

Though details are sparse, one grade that reached the public eye was “Home Field”. The Dolphins ranked fourth overall in the quality of their home field, with players highlighting the natural grass at Hard Rock Stadium.

Another grade that was released publicly was the grade for former Miami head coach Mike McDaniel, whose grade dropped from an A+ in 2025 to a B in 2026. Players identified areas for improvement in scheduling, communication, and leadership. New head coach Jeff Hafley will certainly have his work cut out for him in that regard, having been tasked with rebuilding the organization from top to bottom.

Finally, in terms of ownership, Stephen Ross of the Dolphins, Zygi Wilf of the Minnesota Vikings, and Arthur Blank of the Atlanta Falcons were the only owners to receive A+ grades. The Dolphins will look to continue their streak next season, though results may be harder to come by publicly.

Miami Dolphins Discussion: Which Players In Their Final Year Should Be Extended Edition

gettyimages-2240313631.jpg

MIAMI GARDENS, FL - OCTOBER 12: Offensive Lineman Aaron Brewer #55 of the Miami Dolphins lines up for the snap in the first half during the game between the Los Angeles Chargers and the Miami Dolphins, on Sunday October 12, 2025, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, FL.(Photo by Chris Arjoon/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) | Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

Our Miami Dolphins have a lot of questions to answer this offseason regarding the roster, which already had some glaring holes/major needs before the season ended. With every cut and potentially every trade away of a player, the new regime creates more holes that they need to fill. With little money to spend in free agency and 8 draft picks in April, it seems as if there are more holes to fill than resources to do so at this point. One of the questions the front office must ask is: which players currently in the final season of their contract should the team extend beyond the 2026 season, assuming they want to keep them through this coming season to begin with?

The list includes a player that we have already discussed, running back De’Von Achane. The responses on whether the team should extend him were mixed, with some believing that extending the best player on offense was a must, while others believed that he should be traded when his value is high or if the return is high enough. Wideout Tyreek Hill was on the list but cut for obvious cap reasons, which only seems all the smarter with him coming off injury. Wide receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikine was another player on that list, but as we all know, he was also already set free before the new league season even began.

Linebacker Jordyn Brooks is on the list and has seemingly proven he deserves an extension. Right tackle Austin Jackson is another player that they will need to decide on, and some believe may be cut following his very up-and-down career with the Phins. Kicker Jason Sanders is coming into his final contract year, but may be expendable given that it was proven that you can find a reliable kicker for less money last season. Center Aaron Brewer played at a Pro Bowl level in 2025 and seems like a likely candidate for an extension. Linebacker Tyrel Dodson, who has played well, is also rumored to be a possible cap casualty, but an extension for an additional season or two could alleviate the size of the cap hit for 2026.

Another player in the final year of his deal is center Andrew Meyer, who played in his first-ever regular-season game last season in week 17. Storm Duck, who is popular with many fans, is also in the final year of his deal and is most likely not a long-term answer at corner, but could serve as a long-term depth option as he continues to develop. The last player on the list is Julius Brents, another corner, who is likely a cap casualty as well, saving almost $ 2 million. Brents ended the 2025 season on IR.

So this evening’s question of the day is:

Which player going into the final season of their contract would you like to see our Miami Dolphins extend beyond 2026, and why? Additionally, which additional players on the list would you like to see the team send packing and why?

Please share your thoughts and answers in the comment section below-

Dolphins meet with Carson Beck at NFL Combine

The Miami Dolphins have held a formal meeting with Miami Hurricanes quarterback Carson Beck at the 2026 NFL Combine, as per David Furones of the Sun Sentinel. Each team is allowed up to 45 scheduled “formal interviews” with players attending the NFL Combine this week.

Miami Hurricanes QB Carson Beck details meeting with the Dolphins at combine. pic.twitter.com/cTu9l2Z5xv

— David Furones (@DavidFurones_) February 27, 2026

Beck, a senior at the University of Miami, is widely regarded as one of the better quarterbacks in this year’s class, albeit in a weaker class than years prior. The Jacksonville native threw for 30 touchdowns and 3,813 yards this past season, leading the Hurricanes to their first ever CFB Playoff Championship appearance. Beck also spent four seasons with the University of Georgia, winning two national championships as a backup.

Early mock drafts suggest Beck will likely be taken in the 3rd round, in which the Dolphins have three selections (No. 75, No. 87, and No. 90). Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan has already stated that the team will be drafting a quarterback every single year. Sullivan has also spoken about a desire to get the team in a healthy situation in regards to the salary cap. Drafting Beck, letting him battle for starting job against Ewers, and finding a way to get out of Tua Tagovailoa’s contract will go a long way towards achieving that goal.

— The List – Dolphins Podcast (@TheListFinsPod) February 24, 2026

When asked about the meeting, Beck said “I thought it went really well. Sometimes, I think it’s kind of hard to read how these interviews go…I just want to be myself, let them know who I am. Personally, I felt it went really well.”

Dolphins free agents 2026: Walk, tag, re-sign – Elijah Campbell

The start of the 2026 NFL league year, and with it the start of free agency, is less than two weeks away. When 4 p.m. Eastern on March 13 arrives, player contracts will roll over to their next year and players with no time remaining on their current deal will be free to sign with new teams. Free agency is one of the busiest times of the year for front offices around the league, and a lot of planning and decision making has to be done before signings even begin.

Right now, the Miami Dolphins, like every team around the league, are trying to work out deals with players that are set to hit the free agency market. Miami has 35 players slotted to hit free agency this offseason, and decisions on whether to re-sign or franchise-tag them have to be made, or they may allow them to walk away. Each year, we take a look at the Dolphins’ soon-to-be free agents and give you a chance to weigh in on what the team should do.

This is part five in this year’s series, following looks at cornerback Kader Kohou, linebacker Quinton Bell, tight end Darren Waller, and wide receiver Dee Eskridge. Heading back to the defensive side of the ball, we turn to defensive back Elijah Campbell.

I have included an embed from X, giving you a chance to vote on what you think the Dolphins should do. Feel free to also head into the comments to discuss Miami’s options with Eskridge.

Previous player reviews

Biography

Elijah Campbell

Position: Safety/Cornerback

Age (when season begins): 32

College: Northern Iowa (Iowa Western, Northern Illinois)

Draft: 2018 Undrafted

Experience: 7 years

Previous Teams:

  • Cleveland Browns (2018 training camp)
  • New York Jets (2020)
  • Miami Dolphins (2021-2025)

Note: Campbell was released by the Browns prior to the start of the 2018 regular season. He spent 2019 and 2020 with the AAF and XFL, respectively, before spending most of the 2020 season on the Jets’ practice squad.

Pro Bowl, All-Pro, Awards: None

Expiring Contract

1 year, $1.9 million

2025 Review

Campbell seems to be an annual member of the Dolphins’ expiring contracts list. After being claimed off waivers from the Jets at the end of the 2021 preseason, Campbell was an exclusive rights free agent with Miami in the 2022 and 2023 offseasons. In 2024, he returned to the team on a one-year contract, then signed another one-year deal with the Dolphins ahead of last year.

Similar to how he has been used in previous years, Campbell was a rotational defensive player for Miami in 2025, working both as a safety and as a cornerback. He appeared in 10 games, recording five tackles. He only played 16 defensive snaps this year, his fewest since his first year in Miami when he was exclusively a special teams player. He did play in 183 special teams snaps this year, the fifth-most on the team.

2026 Outlook

Campbell’s role has not changed over the past several seasons, and there is no reason to think it would in 2026. If he were to return to the Dolphins, he would likely be slotted as a reserve safety who could play cornerback if needed, while providing a special teams presence throughout the season.

Walk, Tag, or Re-Sign?

Projected franchise tag (linebacker): $20.2 million (via OverTheCap.com)

Walk. Campbell does provide special teams work for the team and would be a veteran presence to have in the secondary, but the Dolphins are looking to get younger in 2026. This is a rebuild year, and Campbell is not likely to be someone who is hanging around for whenever the Dolphins open a championship window. If he is still available in the second or third rounds of free agency, he could be someone the team brings back closer to the start of training camp.

Miami Dolphins Fans Share What Scares Them The Most

gettyimages-2254360251.jpg

MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA - DECEMBER 21: A detailed view of Miami Dolphins helmets prior to a game against the Cincinnati Bengals at Hard Rock Stadium on December 21, 2025 in Miami Gardens, Florida. (Photo by Megan Briggs/Getty Images) | Getty Images

Last week, with the offseason NFL activities beginning with the annual NFL Combine, I asked the following question:

With everything that has happened and with much more to come, what scares you the most about this offseason? It can be concerns about the new staff, the direction of the roster, or anything else. Maybe they will do something truly egregious, like no longer carrying your favorite beer at the stadium. Either way, we want to know.

Below are some of your thoughts and answers-

Reid_305 isn’t interested in the edge rusher out of Auburn.

Drafting Keldric Faulk

madcitydave does not want to see two star players traded away for pennies on the dollar.

Trading away Achane and Waddle for peanuts.

AquaAndOrange has already seen so much horror from this franchise that there’s nothing to be afraid of anymore.

I had to tolerate grier decisions for the last 22 years. I don’t have any fears with the new regime. Literally, how can anybody be worse ? Why would anyone bad mouth the new regime before they even have a chance to succeed after putting up with grier all those years ? We’re finally free of grier and people are already complaining about Sully and Hafley ? Are you kidding me ?

David7777 is afraid of the constant wash, rinse, repeat.

Having things not work out with our new coach, he gets fired then Ross hires Cam Cameron as our new head coach.

go_canes is concerned that the evaluation of talent will not be any better this time.

Mediocre talent evaluation -> mediocre drafts -> mediocre W-L record.

FLexile is no longer scared because the new regime seems like they take the details seriously. Something that has obviously been missed for a very long time.

Absolutely nothing scares me about this off-season or the future of the Dolphins franchise. For the first time since drafting Tagavailoa, I am actually optimistic.

This sport is not rocket science like some former, not to be named staff members, thought. Draft well, develop players, keep them or trade them.

The NFL is a roulette wheel, both figuratively and literally. To think that the Dolphins keep coming up craps (I know mixed metaphor) makes me think that this game is rigged! But alas it is not.

JES and Haf, JESHaf as I call them, have haircuts that you could set your watch by. This makes me think, rightly or wrongly, that they take their jobs and attention to details seriously.

UpInPensacola is afraid of what might lie ahead when Ross is no longer at the top of the organization.

Ross passing away and who or what comes next.

Ladocudad is afraid that the new boss is the same as the old boss.

What scares me is that Sullivan will suffer from the same hubris that afflicted Grier. I’m afraid he’ll make all the same dumb mistakes and set the Dolphins back even farther than Grier himself did. Grier crippled this team for a generation.

TheRoo1 has a lot of fear, that’s all well-founded.

What scares me is fear,,,

Fear of a small percentage drop in sales blocking follow through by the owner.

Fear of missing on a small detail causing someone to forget the overall plan.

Fear of the acceptance of mediocrity in order to maintain profitability.

krammm gives it a 50/50 chance, which honestly seems like pretty solid odds at this point.

Everyone says that things can’t get any worse but McD and Grier were .500 in their time here.

Based on that I’d say it’s 50/50 that things will get better or worse.

JKBMia wants the new regime to be smart about future player acquisition.

Overdrafting Ty Simpson. Or doing something stupid like trying to get Derek Carr.

USMCFinzFreak knows better than to fear things that really don’t matter in the end, but still hopes to see this team succeed while walking this earth.

For me, nothing scares me that doesn’t affect my (or my loved ones) personal well-being. That said, what deeply alarms me is the fact that I, like Dolfanjoe, am an older fan. I may not see the team that I have been lured to in the early 70s rise up to win another championship.

FoosballFan believes the issue is the ownership.

Ross remains the owner. He’s the one constant in all the futility.

Dave G is fearful that the correct moves will not be made regarding the roster.

What scares me is that they might not make some of the necessary moves to build enough from the draft.

If you’re rebuilding, then rebuild. Trade the big assets to give yourself ammunition to draft as many players as possible for the next 2 drafts at least.

Personally, I dont see any choice but to trade Waddle, Achane, Minkah, and Sieler. We have never needed a Tunsil type trade more than now. Let’s do it, and get this ball rolling in the right direction from the start.

We have made the mistake so many times in the past. We wait till players deteriorate or pass their prime to trade them. I was saying to trade Howard years ago when he was worth something. I said the same about Stills and even Landry. When we did, we got next to nothing in return. Tired of this same scenario. Mark my words. These guys wont be worth half in a year or even 9 months from now. You heard it here first !

Phoenix6 is concerned that they somehow screw up at a high first-round pick.

That they will shit-the-bed with the 1st overall pick.

Well, that’s our random 15 comments for this evening. The discussion in the original question post included many more comments and discussions, which you can see HERE. As always, thank you to each of you who answers our question of the day. These posts and this site in general are not possible without your active participation, and we all appreciate our family here at the Phinsider.

Dolphins to work on extensions for key players

The Miami Dolphins are going to look much different under the leadership of new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and new head coach Jeff Hafley in 2026 and beyond. However, according to Dan Graziano of ESPN, the organization plans to keep four core players in the team’s plans for many years to come.

On Sunday, Graziano published an article on ESPN’s website discussing the rumors he’s heard while at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis last week. Regarding the Dolphins, he said that fans should “expect” the team to work on contract extensions for running back De’Von Achane, center Aaron Brewer and linebacker Jordyn Brooks. He also mentioned that the team views wide receiver Jaylen Waddle as a building-block for the future as well.

“Expect the Dolphins to work on extensions this offseason for running back De’Von Achane , center Aaron Brewer and linebacker Jordyn Brooks . Miami is under new management and likely entering something of a rebuild. But along with wide receiver Jaylen Waddle , the Dolphins view those three as core players and moving forward. Waddle is already signed long term, but the other three are free agents in 2027.”

While trade rumors have been running rampant this time of year — especially regarding Achane and Waddle — it doesn’t sound liked Sullivan or Hafley is interested in moving on from Miami’s “core four.” If the organization can stabilize the quarterback position, having electric weapons, stout protectors and tenacious defenders will go a long way towards returning the Dolphins to the upper echelon of franchises in the National Football League.

Miami Dolphins Discussion: To Trade Down Or Not To Trade Down Edition

GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN - APRIL 23: A general view of the Miami Dolphins logo prior to the 2025 NFL Draft at Lambeau Field on April 23, 2025 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. (Photo by Perry Knotts/Getty Images) | Getty Images

With the annual NFL Combine wrapping up earlier today, the NFL now looks ahead to the official start of the 2026 NFL League Year on March 11th, followed by the 2026 NFL Draft on April 23rd through the 25th. Our own Miami Dolphins currently hold the 11th overall pick in the first round of the draft. Our Dolphins also have many roster holes to fill, with little to no money to do much in free agency. With all of that in mind, the question will for sure be asked whether our Dolphins should consider trading down for the right package of picks in return, allowing the team to hopefully add more quality players to the roster without spending a ton of money.

So the more than obvious question of the day is:

Do you believe that our Dolphins should for sure or at least consider trading out of the 11th overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft? If you are against trading out of the 11th spot, why? If you are all for it or at least open to trading down from the 11th overall spot, how far down would you find acceptable for the team to trade down, and what would you potentially want back in return from the other team?

Dolphins free agents 2026: Walk, tag, re-sign – Greg Dulcich

We are getting closer and closer to the start of the 2026 NFL league year. On March 13 at 4 p.m. Eastern, the league will officially roll contracts to their 2026 status, with expiring deals turning players into free agents. For the Miami Dolphins, there are 35 players slotted to hit free agency. Miami faces a salary cap struggle this year and has to make hard choices about who they will re-sign and who they will allow to walk away in free agency.

Each year, we work through Miami’s list of soon-to-be free agents to analyze who should the team prioritize in re-signing and who might be allowed to walk away. This is part sixin this year’s series, following looks at cornerback Kader Kohou, linebacker Quinton Bell, tight end Darren Waller, wide receiver Dee Eskridge, and defensive back Elijah Campbell.

Now, we jump back to the offense, with our second tight end on the list. What should the Dolphins do with Greg Dulcich this offseason?

I have included an embed from X, giving you a chance to vote on what you think the Dolphins should do. Feel free to also head into the comments to discuss Miami’s options with Eskridge.

Previous player reviews

Biography

Greg Dulcich

Position: Tight end

Age (when season begins): 26

College: UCLA

Draft: 2022 3rd Round (Denver Broncos)

Experience: 4 years

Previous Teams:

  • Denver Broncos (2022-2024)
  • New York Giants (2024)
  • Miami Dolphins (2025)

Pro Bowl, All-Pro, Awards: None

Expiring Contract

1 year, $1.1 million

2025 Review

Dulcich started the 2025 season on the Dolphins’ practice squad after being released in the final roster cuts by the New York Giants. He was promoted in October to the active roster, appearing in 10 games with three starts during the season. He caught 26 passes for 335 yards and a touchdown over the course of the season.

2026 Outlook

Dulcich’s role with the Dolphins continued to expand as the season progressed, and he could see an even bigger role in a return to Miami. His 2025 stats are the best since his rookie season, and he has established himself as a trusted option in the offense. He benefits from Bobby Slowick remaining with the Dolphins to become the offensive coordinator under first-year head coach Jeff Hafley, a defensive-minded coach.

Walk, Tag, or Re-Sign?

Projected franchise tag (linebacker): $15.0 million (via OverTheCap.com)

Re-sign. The Dolphins need tight ends, and Dulcich would provide stability to the position group. He is not destined for a Pro Bowl appearance. Still, he is a solid veteran who could become a possession receiver/emergency valve for whoever is at quarterback for the Dolphins. Dulcich could be in line for a two-year, $2.5 million contract, and the Dolphins should absolutely do what they can to re-sign him if the asking price is around there.

The Miami Dolphins are in cap purgatory and even if they wanted to sign some big name free agents, that doesn’t appear likely with this new regime. New GM Jon-Eric Sullivan is expected to bring the Green Bay Packers way to Miami and develop a roster the way he learned how. That is building and enhancing the roster through the NFL Draft with young talent and retaining those players that they have invested in. That doesn’t mean they’ll ignore free agency, they’ll have to find some depth players to add to this roster who actually might become starters. QB Malik Willis is a popular name linked to Miami, but that move just seems so unlikely with the Dolphins current cap situation. But never say never.

2026 NFL Draft | Miami Dolphins can only hope Caleb Downs falls into their lap at pick #11

Caleb Downs is widely considered one of the top defensive back prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft.

But a recent report from Daft on Draft suggests that some teams may have their concerns about Downs’ health. Today, that rumor got shut down in a big way when ESPN’s Pat McAfee addressed the rumors on his show. Here’s what McAfee had to say about Downs and his rumored knee injury:::

“Caleb Downs, there’s a report coming out, and who knows what’s real and what isn’t, but we do know that even the people that aren’t considered real, if their shit generates enough traffic it does become a topic of conversation for people around the league, especially if it involves somebody who was deemed a Hall of Famer the first day they were on campus at Alabama,” McAfee said.

“We reached out to the Downs family, and the Downs family immediately sent us to a ‘Suit.’ Sent a thumbs up, never gonna do that. So then we go to a couple of NFL teams, and we try to do a little follow-up on what we have heard. Multiple NFL teams have told us there is nothing in the medical that would deter us from bringing Caleb Downs in, especially with how great of a football player he is.

Now, I’m not a big fan of McAfee, but he certainly has more #sauces than a random guy on X.

Additionally, the fact that this was pushed by only one outlet leads me to question its validity. And yet, if the league believes that Downs has a catastrophic knee injury that will certainly be an issue later in life, who am I to judge?!?!

If they want to let a three-year starter who can play all over the defense land in the lap of Miami’s new defensive-minded HC – on a defense that could certainly use the help in the secondary — sign me up. He would be an instant game-wrecker who can play in man or zone. In single-high or down in the box.

I want Caleb Downs – ‘pOtEnTiALLy dEgEneRaTiVE AcL’ and all!

What are your thoughts on the Miami Dolphins selecting Caleb Downs with the 11th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft? Do you think he’ll be available when Miami picks? What other players would you be happy with at 11 overall? Let us know in the comments section below!

Jon-Eric Sullivan is bringing the Green Bay Packers way to the Miami Dolphins. The Packers have been a team where they like to develop their own talent and retain it. They will make the occasional big splash free agent signing or trade, but it’s not often. It’s going to be a very boring free agency period for the Dolphins as they have very little cap space to use and won’t be big spenders next week. Sullivan did say they will add one or two role players who will be able to help the team. What position are you hoping the Dolphins address when free agency starts?

You can check out that story here, and the rest of the day’s round-up below.

Could Tua Tagovailoa be heading to the Jets?

Yes, you read that correctly.

According to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, the New York Jets are among a number of teams “doing their homework” on Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

From @gmfb on the #Vikings’ plan at QB and what it means for J.J. McCarthy, no progress of late with the #49ers and Trent Williams and teams doing work on Tua Tagovailoa, including the #Jets. pic.twitter.com/dLIgaS8JRe

— Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) March 4, 2026

It’s no secret that the Dolphins are actively shopping Tagovailoa around the NFL, however coy new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan wants to be to the media. Since landing the job, Sullivan has hinted that he wants to “keep all options on the table” as it relates to the future of the Dolphins at the quarterback position.

However, if the Dolphins want to move off Tagovailoa, they likely will not be able to trade him. Jeff Rowe, a writer for The Athletic, recently reported that there has been “minimal buzz” on Tagovailoa and Kyler Murray around the league, as both quarterbacks are on expensive contracts and out of favor. The latter, of course, was just released by the Arizona Cardinals this past week.

Enter, the Jets.

If the Dolphins were to release Tagovailoa, they would incur the biggest dead cap hit in NFL history, allowing the Jets to sign him for the veteran minimum—$1.3M. For a team in rebuild, this is certainly an enticing proposition for the Jets. Tagovailoa brings a lot of experience, little or no drama, and is of course, undefeated as a starter against the Jets in his NFL career (8-0).

Last season, the Jets had Justin Fields as their starting quarterback. Fields was 2-7 as as starter, but managed to throw seven touchdowns to just one interception. In comparison, Tagovailoa threw for 20 touchdowns and 15 interceptions, and finished with a 6-8 record as a starter.

It remains to be seen if the Jets (or any other team, for that matter) will make a move for Tagovailoa, but one thing is clear—Tagovailoa likely will not be playing football for the Miami Dolphins next season. Whether he’s traded or cut, his future in south Florida is likely over.

Miami Dolphins re-sign OLB Cameron Goode

General manager Jon Eric Sullivan and head coach Jeff Hafley are ready to embark on their first NFL free agency as a tandem, but not before they continue to make last-minute decisions on the team’s current roster and impending free agents.

The Miami Dolphins made their latest signing earlier today, re-signing a player fans have watched develop – for better or worse – over the last three seasons in Miami. According to the team’s official site, the Dolphins have re-signed outside linebacker Cameron Goode.

The former 7th-round draft pick (224th overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft has appeared in 37 career games with Miami, with just one start over the past three seasons. In total, Goode has recorded 29 tackles (19 special teams), two quarterback hits, and a pass breakup. He will now hope to continue developing in Miami Gardens, this time under a defensive-minded head coach, Jeff Hafley, and the hand of the king, Sean Duggan.

Re-signing a player like Goode, who put up solid numbers during his time at California (170 tackles, 21 sacks, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, and 15 pass breakups), is exactly what Miami has to do in 2026. The dead cap is no joke, and bringing in a guy that showed even a glimmer of potential is not a bad idea.

TLDR: They need bodies

Which is crazy, because at one point, Miami’s pass-rushers were one of the team’s strengths. But after jettisoning Jalean Phillips to the Philadelphia Eagles, cutting ties with Bradley Chubb, and Chop Robinson’s sophomore slump, it’s quickly become a huge area of need.

The Dolphins will likely draft a few pass-rushers in next month’s draft, but for now, the team will rely on in-house options, which now include Cameron Goode.

What are your thoughts on the Miami Dolphins re-signing Cameron Goode? Are there any other players you expect the team to re-sign in the coming days? Do you think Goode can become anything more than a special teams player? Let us know in the comments section below!

Dolphins free agents 2026: Walk, tag, re-sign – Jake Bailey

The NFL calendar has advanced past the franchise tag deadline for 2026 with the Miami Dolphins not placing a franchise tag or transition tag on any player. The team did, however, announce two moves that impact their list of soon-to-be free agents, with the team placing a tender on exclusive rights free agent cornerback Ethan Bonner and re-signing linebacker Cameron Goode. Those moves bring Miami’s list of players with expiring contracts down to 33 this offseason.

As we do every year, we are currently reviewing the list of players scheduled to hit free agency for Miami, breaking down what the team should do with each player. Since the franchise tag is no longer an option, this is really down to just walk or re-sign, though we will keep the naming convention of “Walk, tag, re-sign” to remain standard over the series.

We have looked at several players on both sides of the ball already this year, but we have not looked at a true special-teams player. We change that today with a look at Jake Bailey. Should Miami bring back their punter next year, or will they be in the market for a replacement?

I have included an embed from X, giving you a chance to vote on what you think the Dolphins should do. Feel free to also head into the comments to discuss Miami’s options with Bailey.

Biography

Jake Bailey

Position: Punter

Age (when season begins): 26

College: Stanford

Draft: 2019 5th Round (New England Patriots)

Experience: 7 years

Previous Teams:

  • New England Patriots (2019-2022)
  • Miami Dolphins (2023-2025)

Pro Bowl, All-Pro, Awards: First-Team All-Pro (2020), Pro Bowl (2020)

Expiring Contract

2 year, $4.2 million

2025 Review

Bailey finished his third season with Miami with his best average punt length since his All-Pro season in 2020. At 47.7 yards per punt, Bailey’s 2025 season is fourth all-time for the Dolphins for a season, trailing Brandon Fields top three seasons. His three-year average of 46.9 yards per punt pushes him ahead of Fields for the top spot in team history for a career. Fields’46.8 yards per punt came over an eight-year period, compared to Bailey’s three, but it is still a very impressive stat. Bailey’s 47.7 yards per kick this year was the 12th-best average in the league. He had 21 kicks pin opponents within their own 20-yard line.

2026 Outlook

As a punter, Bailey’s role is already set, no matter where he plays in 2026. He obviously would fill a need for the Dolphins when the season begins, and he has a leg that can switch the field position when needed. Special teams are such an important part of the game, even if it is not the sexiest aspect to the game, and Bailey is really good at what he does.

Walk, Tag, or Re-Sign?

Franchise tag deadline passed.

Walk. Obviously, Miami has to have a punter. By letting Bailey walk, the Dolphins open a hole on the roster, but there is a strong likelihood Miami just cannot afford to put the money into Bailey’s contract that he can get elsewhere. If he is willing to take a discount to remain in Florida, re-sign him. But, he was 14th in average salary on his expiring contract at $2.1 million per year. The top punters are around $4 million. If he comes in between $2.1 million and $2.5 million, maybe it leads to a re-signing. But Miami could look to an undrafted free agent or a late-round pick to fill the need with a cheaper player this year.

The Miami Dolphins have needs all over their roster as they prepare for free agency next week. General manager Jon-Eric Sullivan has his work cut out for him with the roster needs and the limited cap space the team has. The Dolphins used to be big spenders in free agency, but with Sullivan in town those big spending days are probably over. Thankfully the Dolphins are set at certain positions, but plenty of help is still needed.

Jason Sanders among latest to be released by Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins have released kicker Jason Sanders according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, ending his tenure with the Dolphins after eight seasons. Sanders was the starting kicker for the Dolphins in seven of those seasons, having missed all of the 2025 season to a hip injury.

After the two sides could not agree on a contract, the Dolphins now are expected to release kicker Jason Sanders, per source. Sanders leaves Miami with a streak of 27 straight made field goals, and 9-of-9 on his last 50+-yard field goals. pic.twitter.com/dowhkjfi48

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 6, 2026

As the Dolphins continue to purge their roster, Sanders was the latest veteran to pack his bags. His cap number for 2026 was set to be around $4.5 million, according to Over The Cap. After a stellar 2020 season in which Sanders made 36 of 39 field goal attempts and was voted to the NFL’s All-Pro team, Sanders signed a five-year extension before the 2021 season. That contract was set to expire after the 2026 season, but the Dolphins are pulling the trigger early.

Of course, last season, Sanders suffered a hip injury in training camp, and spent the entire season on the injured reserve left. Though he was expected to return at some point last season, he never did. Alas, hip injuries for NFL kickers are like broken legs for race horses—one injury, and your career is probably over.

His replacement, Riley Patterson, made 27 of 29 field goal attempts for the Dolphins in 2025, though he only attempted four kicks over 50 yards, making three of them.

In seven seasons with the Dolphins, Sanders made 187 of 221 field goal attempts, the second-most in franchise history. He kicked six game winning field goals for the Dolphins, the latest coming towards the end of the 2023 regular season in a win over the Dallas Cowboys that sent the Dolphins to the playoffs. He still boasts a 100% success rate on field goals attempted within the final minute of the fourth quarter or overtime (7 for 7).

Last season was pretty unforgettable for the Miami Dolphins and the same can be said with how they approached the offseason and free agency. The Dolphins signed 11 free agents last year and barely got anything from the guys they brought in. Even when they saw play time, these guys were rather disappointing in their roles. G James Daniels played in one game (barely), S Ashtyn Davis was a liability at safety, and WR Nick Westbrook-Ikhine couldn’t carve out a role on offense. Daniels and Westbrook-Ikhine have already been released and we can only hope this new regime can find some better talent to help out this team.

Miami Dolphins Fans Share Their Thoughts On What To Do With The 11th Overall Pick

gettyimages-2149723407.jpg

DETROIT, MI - APRIL 25: The Miami Dolphins get the 21st overall pick in during Day 1 of the NFL Draft on April 25, 2024 at Campus Martius Park and Hart Plaza in Detroit, MI. (Photo by John Smolek/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) | Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

This past week, I asked the following question:

What do you see as the team’s most pressing need in the first round of the draft, position-wise, at spot 11 or later, if they trade down, in the first? Do you instead believe that the team should not focus on a position of need or positions of need and instead just follow their board to a T? Either way, please let us know what you would do or like to see the new front office do with their first round pick in the 2026 NFL draft.

Below are some of your thougths and answers-

Vman123 believes the team’s first-round pick will leave us shaking our heads.

Chances are they’re going to pick somebody that’s going to make us shake our heads I realize we need everybody I hope soon we can find out who is going to be our QB and at pic 11 it would be nice to see a great pass rusher or CB

CluelessNFLfan says it’s going to take a while to get back to being good, so just get some top-level talent.

BPA at S, CB, OL, or Edge in no particular order. I’d be OK with the best TE too. This is a 3 year rebuild, just get us some top notch talent that will help us win for years to come

Alley Gator says trade this year’s first-rounder for a first-round pick next year or a large package of picks.

Not trading down, I’d trade forward to 2027. This year is already over so tank for a QB next year and an extra first rounder or gaggle of picks from trading this years first.

MIAMI235 wants the next Miami Dolphins stud middle linebacker.

Just for fun…..a game changing MLB! (They run the defense calls from sideline, stuff the run, create some havoc)

cyberflea says go BPA with an emphasis on edge rusher and corner.

Repeat, Edge and CB are the Dolphins biggest needs. I’m not listing QB because that position will not be addressed in the first round of this year’s draft. However, as others have said on here, pick BPA regardless of need.

Francesco ITA seems to agree with cyberflea.

1) BPA

2) Pass Rusher but not a small EDGE like Chop…

3) CB

coluccim has two players to focus on.

Our most pressing need is obvious. But there may not be value there. We need a defensive backend. So unless Tate slides, I would draft McCoy.

JKBMia has a solid list.

CB; Edge; RT; Safety

Bill Moody, with all the holes on the roster, says just go BPA. Seems like a

Every position group has a need at this point. I’d say we’re set at kicker and punter though. Go with BPA I guess.

Flexile says just go out and get me a future Hall of Fame player.

As long as they’re a HOF caliber player, it doesn’t matter what position they play. So do that… draft hall of famers and everything will work out fine.

Yarganaught seems to be leaning towards an edge pass rusher.

Our backfield, while not stellar, wasn’t the reason why QB3s and RB4s were able to run the ball and rack up 200yrds against them. And that was before we cut/traded away JP and Chubb. Not sure if an EDGE will fix that… but it sure couldn’t hurt.

popmaster23 wants to keep the Hurricane at home.

If he’s available trade down and get Rueben Bain.

Dolphster says to take Bailey if he falls to the Phins.

In my opinion, it is a toss up between CB and Edge. If David Bailey makes it to the Dolphins pick, it would be tough to pass on him. He has the size and all the tools to be a really good Edge Rusher and his game is already pretty refined without glaring weaknesses.

davidson11 seems to want the same sort of deal with the refs that the KC Chiefs have seemingly had over the last few years.

Can they draft a referee? That’s more valuable than any single player.

sdphinsfan sees a lot of needs in the middle of our defense.

Its got to be the middle of the Defense. We need impact player potential at both S and LB. Without it, we’ll be spinning our wheels if we’re looking at investing (drafting or FA) in Edge and CB. At 11, I don’t see a player at LB that will justify that pick unless Styles falls. Downs would make a ton of sense.

Well, that’s our random 15 comments for this evening. If you want to see the original full disccusion you can find it HERE. There seems to be a consensus for the most part, with most of our base focused on corner and edge rushers, which are possibly the two most glaring holes on this roster outside of quarterback, of course. As always, thank you to each of you who took the time to join the discussion and give your thoughts on our question of the day.
